Buongiorno! Jan and Fran took an Italian vacation to Venice, and boy did we have a ball, pumpkin!! After more than a few aperol spritz, we stumbled down some Venice alleys to come upon the quaint and inviting Calice. A cheerful bubbly fellow greeted us and took us up to the second floor, where Fran gasped and quickly ordered some Bellinis! Off to the races these hangry gals went with prosciutto and shaved melon, & caprese salad. Delicious pizza restaurant in the heart of town. Order at the counter and then sit down. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. The prices are reasonable. And most importantly, the pizza is delicious! They feature pizza by the slice and made to order. Everything is on display. This is easily one of the best value restaurants near St. Mark's Square. Earlier in the trip, I needed to wait for a group in the area and went to Quadri, which is elegant but outrageously priced. Twelve euros for a cup of tea. The historic Caffe Florin is even worse, but has historic value. The food here isn't life-changing but there's s good selection of pizza, paella and tapas. I had two items and a soda for 13.5. The stuffed zucchini was the best. Table seating upstairs. Their sign is small, dark and easy to miss. Look for the Casa Nova Hotel, it's right there on the other side. read more

What a fun place to stop and have some delicious pizza! We were pleasantly surprised and the staff were very welcoming and pleasant! Bravo!

An unexpected gem we stumbled across after a failed dinner next door. Straightforward Italian cuisine. Home style and cooked with love. Every bite was filling and wholesome. Great crispy crust pizza. We tried eggplant parmigiana, lasagna bolognese, roasted chicken, roasted veggies, two different types of pizza--ate every morsel between the 5 of us. You won't find a lot of seafood or necessarily typical Venetian foods but it's a reliable place you want to come back to. And the three men who run the place? Hilarious, sincere and cheerful. We went to this place twice because the food was pretty good and the price was decent. It is open all day and night, which makes it easy for those who are still adjusting to the time zone and don't eat during typical lunch or dinner periods. I'm not sure why others had a terrible experience. The staff who helped us were very friendly and spoke to us in both Italian and English as we tried our best to speak in our basic Italian. Quality Italian Food My group came in confused, we only saw one table and a small buffet of food. We went upstairs to many more tables and got seated immediately. Our waiter was very nice and explained everything we wanted to know about the menu. We selected three dishes which were all good. The first dish was some sort of potato pizza which I had never seen before but it was fine. Then there was an artichoke and ham pizza which was also good, just nothing special. Then there was a plate of ham and cheese which was MASSIVE. It could feed more than two people. The reason this place lost a star is because at the end we waiting upwards of 30 minutes to get our bill when the house was mostly empty. I though they forgot about us! Overall, good food and drinks but prepare to come here and eat leisurely. -zo I would like to make a disclaimer that this was my experience, yours could be different. read more

For a casual lunch spot in Venice close to San Marco square - this was a good spot. We had low expectations based on the location and some of the reviews - but honestly, the pizza was better than expected. I also ordered the beef carpaccio with arugula and Parmesan which was also good. If you end up getting lost near San Marco square and all the designer shops, this place works for lunch at pretty reasons prices (13 euro for a whole pizza). read more

When you see not one, but TWO gondola drivers eating at a restaurant, you know you're in the right place! The food is super reasonably priced with tons of selections to either order from display or off the menu. Pastas are 9€ and up. I ordered cabanara. Yum!!!! Ask for parmesan cheese if you like. Servers were super friendly and spoke English. There is no cover charge or service fee to eat. Has wine and draft beer. At 6pm there is waiter service upstairs and a different menu than what we had at lunch. Would definitely recommend- come and check this place out!!!!! read more

We were staying literally across the street from here at hotel Casanova and decided to go in after a long ass day. Food looked good and they have 2 levels so the was plenty of sitting. Fun ambience and great table side service. There was one particular server by the name of Gino that really waited on us hand and feet. He was funny, engaging and had very good recommendations. Honestly he made us feel super welcomed and was so much fun we came here every night for a bite and night cap. Gino, thank you for making us feel so welcomed and all the great service! This cafe covers Italian gourmet foods in all ranges, from pizza pasta, to meat balls and fish filets serve in hot and colds. Their coffee is only a bit an Euro over. Just during the meal time the staffs are little bit rough due to the high demand. As I return for coffee in the low peek time, they are cool and more accommodation. read more

Walked in at 9PM by myself when there were like three tables. I'm looking at the food when one of the servers behind the counter asks me "English sir?" I say "yes?" and for some reason the guy starts laughing hysterically. I just ignore him and continue to try to decide on my food. Then the same guy says "ni hao" under his breath while looking the other way. What the hell? They seemed to be a bunch of immature high school kids working there, and I mean literally. Not someone you want working a restaurant in an a touristy area. Just classless. I walked out immediately. Judging by how empty this place was, and with so few reviews, I'd be cautious. read more

Good selections for even my picky eater. Perfect size portions and lots of options for drinks. Don't be discouraged if you can't find seating downstairs. Look up at the skylight and you'll find more seating and the toilets upstairs. Service was great, the staff went out of their way to explain the food. While at Piazza San Marco, and looking for quick lunch we stumbled upon this cafeteria style restaurant. Food was good, service quick, upstairs seating too. Yes we would go again! I love this place! Almost every restaurants in Venice sold the same dishes. Calice is different! It has many dishes that I have no see else where. It's also the only time I see tofu in Italy. We stopped in here for a quick bite and beer before we explored the Doge's Palace. Our server Matea was SO nice, provided great service, and was fun to talk to. Our first time in Venice and first time in this place. Was greeted by a rude waitress who directed us upstairs since the tables were taken. Unbeknownst to us we were a small group of 3 who were told to sit at a 6 person table and we were approached by the same rude waitress who raised her voice at us and stated that we should move because we are taking up space. It was not what she said but in the way it was said. Additionally, we witnessed her yell at 2 other customers while we waited 25 minutes for someone to come take our order. Our order arrived another 25 minutes later and was delivered by the same rude waitress. The food was mediocre, the service was horrible, the tables were disgusting and dirty. There was only one nice gentleman who sat next to us and was nice and introduced us to another nice waiter. This was seriously the only pleasant part. Terrible service, terrible management, food is meh.. you can go else where to get your service, food, and experience of Venice. read more
