So so so good. I'll have to try this place in person eventually I've only had them delivered, but each time: everything is delicious. Tonight we had ribs, brisket, pulled pork, loaded Mac & cheese, wedding beans, potato salad and the jalapeno cornbread muffins. Everything is damn good. The loaded mac & cheese is creamy and just the right hint of spicy with chunks of whole jalapeño and bacon. The wedding beans- omg, this was our first time trying these and I'm never not getting them. They're sooooooooo good. The jalapeño cornbread is phenomenal. I could eat 12. The pulled pork is juicy, just the right amount of sauce. Their bbq sauce is on the sweeter side and I love it. July 4th. There were plenty of parking and extra parking in the back. We ordered the tailgate bbq and the jalapeño Mac n cheese. If you want each taste of the meat they serve I would recommend buying the tailgate combo. It comes with half a chicken and half a rib and 9 oz of each meat with a bunch of sides. The price for the meat was worth a try. I love the bbq because it was moist and the meat just melts in your mouth. I highly recommend it here. Hadn't been here in like 4 to 5yrs so we were in the area & decided to dine in for a late lunch. Had spicy BBQ & honey habanero wings a side of salad & Mac n cheese. The wings weren't seasoned only with the sauce. They tasted better after I brought them home & put it in the oven & baked the sauce in a bit. The Mac n cheese was made perfectly cheesy & creamy as it should be. My friend got ribs & fries & wedding beans. She said it was delicious as well. The drinks we enjoyed especially the growler Tiger King spicy mango & I actually surprised I couldn't finish it. But they were able to pack it up so I can take it home. I 100% dislike giving a review after only placing a take out order BUT... I hope the in-person restaurant experience is more positive than what we encountered with our UE delivery. What failed you: 1) Let's play a game of never have I ever... had brisket or rib tips end up being so, for lack of a better word, "fatty". I'm not a girl who will shy away from a well marbled piece O meat, but this was downright inedible due to the fat to lean ratio. 2) The half chicken was at the point of being a mealy/mushy consistently rather than a juicier, tender mouth feel. Not sure the cooking method here but it reminded me of when I leave my bird in the slow cooker too long. 3) I personally prefer to sauce my own meat (wink wink) so this may be purely subjective, but the already mediocre protein seemed to be drowning in BBQ sauce, adding insult injury. What saved you: 1) Those muffins though... you had me at jalapeño and I stayed for the cornbread. Give me 27 of those and I'd be a happy girl! 2) Really all the sides were delicious including the Mac n cheese (which my kids devoured), the wedding beans and the coleslaw! 3) The sauce. In moderation, and at my own pace, I could get down on a bottle of that sweet/tangy/spicy jam. Again, would definitely give this another go in person but for delivery I can't recommend. This business is by my daughter place, every time I visit to relax between classes or at night to do laundry miscellaneous stuff. If I need to park in there parking lot I make sure a purchase dinner usually $30-50. Parking says customer only Am I not a customer, when I make a purchase? Usually it after they are closed too. I got a courtesy notice today that they are going to tow my car. I even told the guy tonight that the van was my vehicle. I like the food and spending $60-$80 a week isn't enough I guess I won't. I am super picky about BBQ. I make it myself with my own homemade rubs and sauce. I've been to Austin, one of the points on the BBQ Trail. I also love steaks, and alternative meat choices. So I'm not going to be impressed by anything less than the best. Cali Comfort had its good and bad points. Really good were some of the meats. The pork spare ribs were good, and pulled easily off the bones. They do come pre-sauced, which some people (like Izzy) don't prefer. You have to have amazing rubs to do that, because there's no sauce to camouflage any mistakes. The pulled pork was also good, and it did come with the sauce separate. That way you can adjust it to your taste. The onion rings were delicious, as were the beans. My Mom is a big bean aficionado, and she really enjoyed the beans. It is definitely worth the $1 to upgrade your fries to onion rings. The jalapeno corn muffin was good, just not super exciting. Mom had a Stella, I had iced tea, and Izzy had some crazy spicy alcoholic drink. We also shared the cobbler, which was very good, and plenty for 3 people. We ended up taking some food home, even with us sharing the plate. For $27, it is quite a bit of food. I think it depends on which meat styles you order. Our waitress was awesome, keeping track of anything we needed. And now the bad. First off, the parking situation. So frustrating, with just a little bit of parking in the main lot, another lot across & down the street, and maybe a 3rd even further down. I get that it's in a weird rural business area, with mixed zoning, no sidewalks and no street parking. Both of the handicapped spaces were full, so I came back around to drop off my Mom in front. At that point, luckily, the security guard saw my placard, and had me park in 1 of the 10 min to-go spots. Thank God! The Tri-tip was horrible! I love tri-tip, and I try to have it wherever I can. But this was not good at all. It was a not huge clump of over-cooked, almost grey meat slices that tasted all rubbery. I asked our waitress how they prepare it, and she said something about after smoking it, they put it on the grill to get that medium rare finish. Hah! I started laughing. No way in hell was this anything less that medium well. They swapped it out for pulled pork, since I refused to let them try it again. No thanks, I know how that will end. The flies. We were on the front patio, which is dog friendly & uncovered. It is also alongside the road. We were constantly bombarded with flies, divebombing our food. I finally put a napkin over the big plate to protect it. The cost sneaks up on you too. We each got the $27.99 combo, plus $1 each upgrades. We were using a B1G1F coupon, but we only got $25 off the 2nd for some reason. There were no restrictions written on it, so I guess they had an unwritten ceiling for the discount. With drinks & dessert it was $66, after the discount, before tip. Ouch! So it would've been $90 with no coupon? Yikes! Seems likes the best option is phone in an order, get it to go, go to a park nearby, and share it with someone. And don't order the Tri-tip (and probably the brisket, for that matter). Go to Wood Ranch BBQ for Tri-tip, my favorite in San Diego! read more

Catch up review: We happened to be in the area and finally had the opportunity to try Cali Comfort. I'm based in North County so it's a bit of a trek to get out here.. but if you're here.. definitely stop by!! We came amidst covid precautions so it was an "order in advance and take out" situation. Everything was very well packaged, ready to go within a reasonable amount of time, and exciting! Tailgate feast gives you a sampling of everything delicious. We LOVED it all. I hate that Phils has such a dominant stance in San Diego.. I would definitely rank Cali Comfort worlds above Phils. Definitely go support.. the meat was well cooked and seasoned well. We love BBQ so here we are! We came on a Sunday at noon and there was no wait. I ordered the 1/2 rack, but my hubby upgraded it to a full rack...not that he had orderer's remorse (is that a thing), but he wanted to "try" some. My hubby had the pulled pork sandwich, and our daughter came for the sides and peach cobbler. The ribs were good. The meat was almost falling off the bones. I thought I read they were dry rubbed, but it came with BBQ sauce on them. Hubby said the pulled pork sandwich was good. The sides were good. The peach cobbler alone is worth a trip! Never have I ever before had ribs that were so fall off of the bone TENDER!!! Cali BBQ has perfected the art of cooking ribs, just wow. Not only were they so soft that the bones fell right off, but they also had a nice little crisp on the outside. I fell in love with those ribs yesterday. I'm rating four stars because their coleslaw and Mac and cheese unfortunately weren't well seasoned (they needed much more salt and pepper most likely). However, the wicked peach cobbler was something out of this world. So cinnamon-y and sweet, with a nice caramel drizzle and cherry on top. With the best French vanilla ice cream too. Same with the jalapeño cornbread- we loved them! Can't wait to order takeout from here again. Sorry to not include any pictures, we ate all the food too fast ;) read more

So where do I start, out of all the years I have lived in San Diego I've never ate here and now I know why. The food was Horrible!!, we ordered two combo plates brisket and rib tips and pulled pork with brisket, beans and Mac and cheese, NOTHING WAS GOOD! . The meat looks three weeks old sitting in the microwave. Mac and cheese was Horrible! And the pork n beans (BECAUSE IT SURE WASN'T BAKED BEANS). The ambience is definitely on the older side.. not your typical modern BBQ joint, but looks can be deceiving. Don't let the location fool you. They have half off on their appetizers for happy hour so I tried their fried jalapeños and nachos. The fried jalapeños are amazingly good. Perfect bite size and goes great with the side of ranch. It has a kick to it when it comes to the spicy level!! Very yummy. They give you an abundant amount as well. Took it to go and it didn't even looked like I ate anything at all. The nachos are good. Comes with a bunch of toppings. From beans, sour cream, tomatoes, olives, and even your choice of meat. I decided to try it with their pulled pork. It was great and the flavors went well with one another. I got the combo platter picking ribs and brisket as my meat with my sides of coleslaw and beans. The meat is so tender, falls right off the bone and the brisket was so tender as well. It comes with cornbread and some pickles and onions. The coleslaw was good. I liked that their coleslaw didn't have too much seasoning because it even out the taste with the meat and beans. The beans were really good, there was pulled pork in it. The brisket plate was good as well. Mac n cheese and fries were the sides. The Mac n cheese is good. My kids enjoyed it. The fries were delicious with the Cajun seasoning.
