Native Spring Valley resident here - went home for the weekend to try their brisket nachos while at a game and... wow. Not only was the staff extremely rude but a $20 plate of brisket nachos ($17 on the menu, but with tax and the "no tip" option conveniently not working...) came out and ended up being 12 chips maximum. I've been to the location before and loved it, so was extremely disappointed to find out this is what Cali BBQ is putting their name on. Hope they can somehow make it right. read more

Cali BBQ changed my opinion on barbecue since I visited for the first time. Ordering was made easy with the qr codes on the tables and the food came out fast. I was able to do a half order of the ribs and brisket with mac salad and Caesar salad. I also ordered 5pc of their wings to try with their Jalapeno BBQ sauce. My favorite had to be the ribs! It was smoky and fell right off the bone. The wings were really saucy and I don't like too much bbq sauce but to my surprise I enjoyed them! They weren't spicy at all but they were very juicy. Cali bbq is a great place to eat. Food quality is really good. No one's perfect of course, but they come pretty close. I've tried the sports arena location. Stick to the spring valley location. The only way they could improve is fixing their rewards program. After you run thru their 5 promotions, nothing takes it's place. There's no refresh of rewards. read more

Checked this spot out today for Mothers Day dinner, it was my first time here, so here is my honest review: The food is delish, the prices are fair, HOWEVER, the waiter(s) or at least the waiter that specifically handled our party, needs to do better when it comes to upselling and explaining things. As someone who used to work in retail, and in the fast food industry I understand the importance of upselling things, however, when you tell a customer that getting this specific item from the menu because it's technically more "bang for your buck" and the party proceeds to order said item, and clarifies before the order is put in if said item is pretty much "AYCE" and he says "Yes", but then backtracks when we ask for another order of brisket makes no sense and really killed my first experience here. Also, not sure if he was tired or having a bad day, (which is understandable) but we literally only got one round of refills. It wasn't busy at all, it was pretty empty, however the vibes were not vibing. The room where we were seated in was hot, and honestly if he never would've mentioned getting this specific dinner item I would've never ordered it and our bill would've probably came out less than what we paid for. Really wish they would offer more cocktails, not much variety on the bar menu. The kids menu is very bland as well. Would I go back? Maybe... was it a terrible experience? My favorite bbq place I've found in San Diego! I'm super picky being from the south and Cali BBQ hits the spot. We always order a sampler of pulled pork and brisket every time! They are cooked to perfection and super tasty. I even really enjoy their bbq sauce, their original and jalapeño one which is my deciding factor of my rating of a bbq place. Both are so good for different bites! Even their sides are bomb, their bbq beans with added meat bites as well as their loaded Mac and cheese are a must. Tried the following this weekend: tri-tip, ribs, rib tips, chicken wings, and brisket. Great place in the burbs of SD that offers a great selection of slow cooked bbq. Ribs and rib tips were moist. These, along with the chicken were sauced. Sauce is tangy and sweet and thick. I personally am not a fan of sauced bbq. Wings were in battered but covered heavy in the jalapeño sauce, I loved the kick of heat, but still too sugary for my liking. Brisket was decent, but kinda dry. Favorite was the tri tip! Thinly sliced (like at most korean bbq places). This was definitely my fave as there was no marinade! Potato salad and slaw awesome! Although I wish the potatoes were a little softer versus crunchy. We used Cali BBQ for my daughter's wedding and they were the only part of the wedding I did not have to worry about because Steven and Amanda were amazing. They were so accommodating, kind, professional and friendly, they arrived early and prepared. Steven and Amanda even made up plates for the Bride and Groom and myself and my husband ..AMAZING. Went here with high expectations on a Sunday at noon as we were in the area. Start off with was not very crowded. Sat down. Other tables being waited around us. Asked the waitress if we ordered thru QR code and she said yes. Other tables had menus and so was quite confusing. Four of us, two sons and wife. Son and I ordered rib tips. My son was eating his and chewed on a small piece of plastic wrapping that was obviously some cryovac that didn't get completely removed. After notifying the waitress, she just decided to get him replacement rib tips. Mine were nothing but mostly fat and gristle. Quite unappealing and unappetizing. Wife ordered tri tip. It came out cold and was not good. Told the waitress at same time of the plastic and she said she would replace as well. When she returns with it, it was just as bad. Overcooked and unappealing. Told her again and she said thanks for letting us know, possibly tainted meat, I will let the cooks know. My wife would not eat it and so I said, maybe a refund since it will not be eaten. She had to ask the manager. Since I had already paid for everything, she came back and said the manager would refund. I have to check my credit card to see if that actually happened. Brisket was pretty good was the only item that had any merit. Service was awful. After food was delivered, waitress didn't come back until I flagged her down. Asked for refills, and that took better of 15 minutes. Spent $150 for what was one of the worst BBQ meals I have experienced. Can't say I will ever go back. read more

We sat at the bar top server by a blonde girl blue eyes... man was she so nice !! Very helpful and patient too not just with us but there was this drunk guy banging on the table and she handled her self pleasant and professional !!! Dude with glasses too.. y'all are too bomb. The food !!!!! I had a "county fair" which is like a grilled cheese sandwich (with macaroni) and tri tip and care with fries... extremely bomb !!! The sides are always amazing! However the meat quality has went down a bit after covid just like most restaurants. The service was no good due to the QR ordering system ?! Maybe because we went there on a holiday? There is plenty of parking in the lot and they even have a lot directly across the street. They have a full bar and tons of options to drink. Weekly special are fantastic here and offer great value. On Wednesdays, it's 20% off wings and they have many flavors to chose from. Our favorite is breaded wings Cajun rib style, with buffalo and jalapeño bbq on the side. Habanero sauce is also available for the brave. The wings are huge and crunchy with Cajun style. Sauces were homemade and tasty. On Thursdays, they have $2 beef brisket or pulled pork sliders. I ordered food and drinks through the app. There were waiters around for any questions we had about the menu or ordering process. Everything was straight forward. Even ordered beer through the app. I was ankle to pay using Apple Pay on the app at the end of ordering. Cali Comfort is one of my favorite BBQ joints in the area. It's a little off the beaten path on a less trafficked road in Spring Valley. They have a small on-site parking lot, but thankfully there is an area for overflow directly across the street. Normally, that is where I end up but not on this visit. The inside is broken up into multiple dining rooms with a central bar area with lots of countertop seating. It's usually much busier, however this was the first time I came on a weeknight. The bartender handed me a menu, but I knew I wanted the BBQ combo plate. I don't recall tri-tip on their menu so I asked for that and the brisket as the two meats. Of the sides, I picked the seasoned french fries and the BBQ wedding beans as my choices. I absolutely love their version of baked beans with pieces of pulled pork added to the sweet gravy. Both meats were so tender and succulent. A side of sliced dill pickles and pickled red onions and a jalapeno cornbread muffin completed the plate. $27.99 is a hefty price, but I cannot complain about the quantity and quality of the combo plate. It gives you a sample of their best menu items. If this place wasn't so far of a drive, then I would be here more often. read more

Delicious BBQ place! I love how there's TV's, a bar, different seating arrangements, and so many options on the menu! I shared the Cali BBQ nachos and the rib tips, which were both great. The rib tips were so smoky and flavorful and the nachos were HUGE! For two people, we ended up taking the nachos home. Found this place on the way home to Los Angeles. My mom was feeling BBQ and Cali Comfort BBQ popped up with thousands of review so of course I have to try it for myself. I was no disappointed. Food - Every time I try somewhere new I want to taste so much of the menu and Cali Comfort created that Tailgate BBQ Feast so y I can literally have some of everything. Let me tell you, EVERYTHING was super moist. Cali Comfort BBQ has BBQ down to an art. My favorite was the brisket. It came with 4 thick pieces and my dad, mom, and myself were fighting for that last piece. Second favorite were the ribs. Both space ribs and baby back ribs were fall off the bone juicy. Along with the ribs the pulled pork was amazing. Lastly, the prime rib and chicken were all pretty good. I only got to try a little bit because I invested most of my stomach space to the brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. The side were no joke either. They were good enough to be main dishes. The jalapeño corn bread muffins were FIRE!! The order comes with 5. I should have ordered more. One of if not the best corn bread I've tried at a restaurant (only better was home cooked from a couple friends house). The beans and potato salad was bomb also. My dad and I almost smashed those between us. Mac n Cheese and coleslaw was ok. I'm lactose intolerant so I try to stay away from those. Restaurant - it place looks like it would be an awesome environment to be at during the weekend with sports playing. We came on a Monday night early dinner. They have a pretty nice sized bar, seating inside, and outside patio seating. Very clean set up. Something I also check is the restrooms. I have to mention this in all my reviews. Cali Comfort keeps their restrooms clean and fresh smelling. Nothing worst than dirty and smelly bathrooms. One bad thing is that when we came there weren't that many people inside the restaurant but the parking lot was full. There is barely any street parking around. Service - service is done all through your own phone. Which I think is pretty cool. You scan the menu QR code on the table and order. Once you place the order, they bring you the food. Very simple. But in the process of my ordering, I guess the waitress notice the lost look on my mom and dads face. So she came over and helped us. She gave them paper menus and set up our table with an iPad so we can order on it. Overall I can say this place is a gem. We had so much left overs that my whole family got to eat a hearty meal the morning (mom, dad, mother&father-in-law, brother-in-law, wife and myself).
