What a cute little dairy!! We enjoyed the animals, especially Pumba the pig! She followed us all over. I'd take her home with me. You can buy feed to feed the goats and pond friends. The dairy itself has a great selection of dairy products and delicious ice cream! Fun little experience!

We dropped by Calder Dairy & Farm on a sweltering Labor Day, lured in by the promise of cute farm animals and delicious ice cream. We found that the animals were definitely numerous and cute. The ice cream, however, was disappointing. Double Waffle Bowl ($5.49) - This comes with 4 scoops of ice cream; we chose the Cookies & Cream, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Blue Moo, and Cake Batter. The ice cream here is... not the best. More overrun than I was expecting from a super premium ice cream, resulting in an ice cream softer and less creamy than from most other specialty ice cream shops. Yes, it is still way better than grocery store brands, but I was expecting more after all the hype. However, an extra problem arose here - ice crystals. Especially in the cookie dough, it felt like a quarter of the ice cream had changed into ice. I could even see the ice in the scoop and it added an unpleasant crunch and texture. Not a great feeling. I was surprised as this issue was very apparent in the chocolate chip cookie dough - which is supposed to be one of their most popular flavors and the highest turnover. They also do sell a variety of milk, butter, eggs, meat, etc in the farm store. Unfortunately we couldn't get anything since it was 90+ degrees out and the farm is a pretty long drive away from home. We'll probably go to the Calder Dairy Lincoln Park store to pick some up in the future. Otherwise, the farm is a very fun way to spend the afternoon. They have a wide variety of animals and you can buy feed in the store to feed them. They have cows (you can see them getting milked at 4 PM), chickens, geese, guineas, peafowl, rabbits, pigs, donkeys, sheep, goats, and at least two cats. I definitely recommend going to Calder just to see all the animals. I do not recommend the ice cream, at least not from this location. Honestly, if I were rating the ice cream in a vacuum, this review would likely be a 2 star.

Tractors and animals to enjoy looking at while you eat.

A fun place to go for creamy delicious ice cream. While you are there you can enjoy watching all sorts of farm animals and sit by a pretty pond.

Such a great place to take little ones. We go all year round. Checking out the cows, pigs, horses, roosters etc. Free entertainment with a stop at the store for fresh made ice cream. Highly recommend the milkshakes with fresh milk from the cows. We also have our milk delivered. Best milk you will ever taste. Something about those glass bottles makes it taste even better!

Fun place to check out the animals and get a tasty dairy treat.

This place is a hidden gem. Went here on Mothers Day as a treat to my son who was obsessed with cows. We went on a weekend so we missed the milking experience but tbere were so many animals that he could see and he absolutely loved it. The store with the homemade items is a must with items ranging from milk, butter, ice cream and other tasty treats. I ended up buying a lot which I thought to be too much at the time but once I tasted it, I was happy because it was all delicious. From the milk in glass jugs, to the smooth creamy butter to the many different ice cream flavors, this place is a must see

Here is where all the milk for the delicious Calder Dairy products comes from, and it is a destination in itself. This is a working dairy farm that is open to the public 7 days a week. An the farm, there are the obligatory cows being raised and milked, and also a wide variety of other petting farm animals like goats, chickens, roosters, pheasants, geese, ponies, and peacocks roaming the grounds This is a great place to bring the kids for an authentic, uncrowded, farm experience. The real yelp info is this: The Ice Cream is the best in the area, and their other legendary products like the butter, cream, and dips are all for sale. My favorites plavors are Butter Pecan and White House Cherry. This is great Sunday drive destination for the family, or a quick stop for a break when out back-road motorcycling with the buddies, Stony Creek Rd is one of the better roads in the area.

It was a chilly early spring day, too wet for yard work and too sunny for staying indoors. What else could we do but "Road Trip"? We packed up the Piper the Pom (a.k.a. "Pretty Pom Princess") and headed out to Calder's. I was used to going to the Lincoln Park outlet ( I drove by it for years to and from work) to get sour cream and butter ( I was never much a fan of their ice cream), and thought it'd be a great place to walk around and see something new. Big mistake! For one thing, the roads leading to the farm are pockmarked with potholes and treacherous to drive. Once we got there we realized that the sun hadn't dried out the mud enough to walk around. But the big problem was Piper! The sign clearly states that if you have a pet you need to turn around now! Not stay with your pet or take turns with babysitting your pet, but "LEAVE"! I offered to stay in the car if my sister wanted to do some shopping but we felt so uncomfortable that we left immediately. We won't be back.

My cousin lives about a mile away from here and tipped me off about the place while I was there visiting. I thought it sounded like a fun place to take the kids so we stopped in on the way home. I'm glad we did. It's a big enough farm that you get the sense of being on a real deal working farm. But it's small enough that it has the intimacy of a petting farm. A great place to take the kids. Plus once you're done touring the farm and petting the critters there is ice cream to be had. Who doesn't like freshly churned ice cream? While we were there we saw cows, horses, ponies, goats, pigs, bunnies, chickens, roosters, ducks, geese, peacocks, and pheasants. There were lots of baby cows and a baby pig that was cute as a button. For every couple animals behind bars there was one wandering freely (including a cow and some pigs). They also encourage you to help feed the animals, which is a lot of fun. You get a sense of closeness and live interaction with the animals here unlike any other "open to the public" farm I have ever been to. We will definitely be stopping back in next time we are out in the area. It's a little bit out of the way, from anywhere really, but it's worth the trip. Did I mention there is no admission charge? Sweet.

I'm a bit of a dairy snob so I could t go all the way to 5. They do make quality ice cream without all the garbage ingredients that you find at the grocery. They have a lot of educational information here. Kids will learn a lot if they've never had farm exposure. Good local company

The dairy cats running about fat from fresh milk were a particular draw to my daughter.

Quick thinking brought us to Bob Evans. This Bob Evans is across from Walmart and on the Lowe's/TG Maxx/Pet Smart shopping strip. It's one of the outbuildings closest to the road. People get up late in Monroe. My sister explains it as that they are farm folk and have to take care of the critters. I think they just like to sleep in. This Bob Evans has been redecorated and is done in "homogenized country". The old ones had a red and white gingham. These are a muted green and taupe. The gift shop is a suggestion of what it used to be, but you can still get Biscuit, the stuffed dog, for your young one so he will leave you in peace as you down your first cup of the day. I ordered the chicken and waffles, which is a new item. They chop up green onions on top and you'd think that that wouldn't work, but it does. It sets off the sweetness of the pecan syrup and the chicken and the waffle. The waffles could use more syrup but they don't serve it with a container. I guess they think you can't be trusted to pour your own. Our waitress was Amanda and she was a pro! Whip smart and quick on her feet, she was a delight. We will definitely be back!!!

It is quite possibly the most disgusting meal I've had from a restaurant. It was not nice pieces of pot roast as pictured. It was overcooked, shredded schmeat. I started to gag and couldn't eat it. Also the carrots were overcooked and mushy. So, $17.00 for mashed potatoes and gravy.
