    neon sign for lemon custard
    Cathy W.

When travelling with a 4-year-old and 6-year-old, ice cream stops are a must. With all it's bright, cheeful colors, the girls spotted this one easily and clamored for a cone as we drove from Ypsi to Somerset. They offer smaller portions for kids, which always scores points with me. (I like to spoil them, but not too much!) Soft serve choices are vanilla, chocolate and a twist of both, or lemon custard which is bright yellow (think neon) and fun even just to look at! They added sprinkles upon request because goodness knows, ice cream alone is not enough! And they suggested putting the youngest's cone in a cup to make it easier for her to eat. Food items like coneys, chili cheese fries and hoagies are available too. The young girl working the walk-up widow was helpful and polite. Service was quick and everything on the inside was looked clean and well-organized. There is no inside service or seating. We sat at a brightly colored picnic table at the edge of the parking lot and watched the cars go by and the ice cream disappear!

The ice cream needs to be a little colder, perhaps!

A classic ice cream shop with lots of good tasty options, family loves it. We have family in Clinton and this is our go to!

This is a super cute spot that specializes in smoked meat and sausages... yes please. We ordered at the counter and the employees were very friendly and helpful with great suggestions. I got the Michigan asparagus, onion, and cheddar brat, and Nate got the currywurst. We also got a cup of chili to share. We got a buzzer for our order and then sat down in the heated outdoor space. They have a lot of outdoor seating and some firepits, so I really want to come back in the fall or summer. Our food was done quickly and we had fun picking stuff from the toppings bar. They had chopped onions, jalapenos, banana peppers, sauerkraut etc. and lots of sauces. I LOVED the brat. It was easy to bite and not super snappy which I didn't mind. The bun was perfectly toasted and the flavor combination was delicious. Kind of like a broccoli cheddar vibe. I had some of the currywurst which was also delicious! The chili was packed with brisket and pulled pork, and was really tasty. There is a bar so you can enjoy a beer with your sausage, but we just grabbed some cold drinks from the cooler. They even have ice cream and floats!! There are lots of great items for sale as well, including lots of pickled things, frozen pierogi, meat sticks and jerky, and they even have Trenary Toast (#iykyk). I am already planning my next visit to try more brats and the brisket sandwich. This is such a great concept and I really wish we had a place like this in Grand Rapids.

BE MORE SYMPATHETIC TO YOUR CUSTOMER! What's that saying.... "the customer is always right"! Isn't…read morethe goal to ALWAYS make sure your customers are pleased???? To give a quick overview...... I visited Gourmet Hotdogs as a first time costumer today! I ordered the country scrambler which comes with 3 eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, hash brown, onions and sausage gravy on top. When I returned home I did not see any eggs in my scrambler so I contacted them immediately. The woman on the phone was very apologetic and asked me if I could return to the establishment and that they would remake my order! I explained to her that I lived quite a distance and didn't want to travel back that way until I got my son from school. She assured me that it wasn't a problem and to just drop in when I could. Upon getting my son from school I revisited the establishment with a video of my country scrambler (also had the food in the car but did not want to take it into the restaurant because there were costumers inside eating and I didn't want to cause a scene)! Upon getting inside with my son next to me, I walked up to the counter and spoke to the woman who originally took my order, also who I spoke with over the phone. I presented the video to her and the manager/owner or whoever the man was that was also at the counter. The woman watched and said no there's no eggs in there. She asked me to show the man the video. I presented the video to him and he said....."there's eggs in there, you just can't see them"! I said what sense does that make? There's eggs but you can't see them? Well where are they? He said.... "it's there, we mix everything together before we scramble it, I assure you that there are eggs in it, we've been making it the same way for 20 years, if I remake it right now it'll come out the same way, it has eggs"! I immediately said okay thank you and began walking out the restaurant. He began yelling behind me asking....." Do you want me to remake it? I can remake it right now? Do you want a remake"? I stated "No I'm fine and continued to my car and left! I did not wish to have my food remade any longer because for one he handled the entire situation wrong. He showed no sympathy to me and totally disregarded what I was saying because he wanted to "make me believe" that there were invisible eggs in my scramble. I feel like had he apologized from the beginning and asked if he could accommodate me by remaking the scrambler or even getting me something different for the money I spent this entire review could have been avoided! The video of my EGG-LESS scrambler is also posted!

He said "this is obviously your first visit?" which cracked us up. He explained the menu in detail, I had already done so after seeing a facebook post about them but my Fiancé had questions, he answered all of them, so we placed our order and headed back to our car with our pup to wait for the meals. We got a plain dog with mustard and a bag of chips, 2 chili dogs with onions, a pup hotdog for our little man Diego, a root beer and a root beer float. I must say, we all loved our hotdogs. The chili dogs were the best I have had since leaving California 14 years ago. Drool worthy! My fiancé loved her mustard dog, and Diego gives 4 paws for his plain dog. The root beer and float! OMG! Seriously?!?! One word only! PHENOMENAL! We will definitely be back, and thank goodness we live a fair distance away, because if they were nearby, they'd get sick of seeing our faces, and I'd be a few pounds heavier than I'd like to be. Thank you for the fantastic first visit. You definitely made us fans!

That's all I needed was to find more amazing ice cream in Michigan that I can't take home with me. I'm also never in Ann Arbor so that doesn't help I tried fresh basil ice cream. While blue moon tastes like fruity pebbles, butterfly moon tastes exactly like froot loops and is even the color the milk turns when you have a bowl. I also got the double dark chocolate, which was decent but a little more lackluster than I expected. They have a huge variety of flavors though and it definitely feels like the kind of place you need to come back to multiple times to really explore the menu. Every time I walk by there's basically a line around the block, so clearly people love it. Thankfully when I actually went, the service moved pretty quickly. Definitely somewhere I'd come back to try more flavors.
