Big power outage at Exit 15 made is take a trip to this Bob Evans. Exit 15 has the Cracker Barrel and the IHOP and both were out of commission Saturday. Quick thinking brought us to Bob Evans. This Bob Evans is across from Walmart and on the Lowe's/TG Maxx/Pet Smart shopping strip. It's one of the outbuildings closest to the road. People get up late in Monroe. My sister explains it as that they are farm folk and have to take care of the critters. I think they just like to sleep in. This Bob Evans has been redecorated and is done in "homogenized country". The old ones had a red and white gingham. These are a muted green and taupe. The gift shop is a suggestion of what it used to be, but you can still get Biscuit, the stuffed dog, for your young one so he will leave you in peace as you down your first cup of the day. I ordered the chicken and waffles, which is a new item. They chop up green onions on top and you'd think that that wouldn't work, but it does. It sets off the sweetness of the pecan syrup and the chicken and the waffle. The waffles could use more syrup but they don't serve it with a container. It is quite possibly the most disgusting meal I've had from a restaurant. It was not nice pieces of pot roast as pictured. It was overcooked, shredded schmeat. I started to gag and couldn't eat it. This location in Monroe has good food but the help situation is always a problem. One time I went in and there were 2 waitresses and nobody at the desk. A couple that were waiting for a table finally had enough and left , as did I. Today, I went in (Sat) and of course it was busy. They seemed to have enough staff but I waited almost an hour after I was seated and I still didn't have my food. The waitress informed me that they were getting their take out orders out first. Over all a good experience. The pancakes where a little dark. The sausage patties where burnt. We ordered the eggs dry and they where edible. The banana bread was pretty good almost like homemade. Very disappointed today! Actually quite annoying! The waitress had some difficulties, along with some other staff members (male and females) behind the register playing the CUP GAME !!! which was very annoying to the booths that were siting near the register. Classic Monroe restaurant. Not sure why we thought this place was going to be good. Came for breakfast and will not return for another breakfast ever again. The service started our normal and good until she forgot something of ours and refused to come back to our table because she knew she messed up. We ordered the new cinna-biscuits at the same time with our meal. Our meals came out and no cinna-biscuits. The server said "Alright besides the fruit is there anything else I can get you?" As i'm sitting there with no cinna-biscuits.... I said "Did we not order the cinna biscuits?" The server made a face realizing she messed up. Not even when she dropped of the late biscuits not when she filled his coffee, never. We would've asked again where the fruit was but she NEVER came back. After we got our very late biscuits and she filled his coffee she never came back the entire time. After browsing through the bad reviews of this Bob Evans I had thought I had found my place. After getting there and placing my order, I was met with top level service. Food was good and the waitress came by at regular intervals even though she was the only one there due to someone quitting earlier in the shift. Placed an order for takeout last night. I was easy was able to place my order online it was quick and easy. Said food would be ready for pickup in 20 minutes. I live alone and prefer to do carry out and eat in my own home watching TV and not by myself in a restaurant. I haven't tried Bob Evans in many years and frankly just forgot about it being here. I looked over the menu online and looked like a lot of good choices of actual meals compared to fast food or my usual. I ordered the Meatloaf, Mashed potatoes, and beef gravy with green beans with ham and a side of macaroni and cheese. It was delicious and only cost I think $10.50. The meal was so good and simple ordering online will now make me a much more frequent visitor. Denise is a PHENOMENAL server, extremely personable and even though my words mean nothing in the grand scheme of things, she deserves a healthy raise! I selected a variety of items to make sure everyone was happy and we didn't have one negative thing to say about any of it. Been wanting to try the take out soups. Stopped in and ordered the Chicken Noodle and the vegetable soups. I went with the large one quart size, they were huge. This plenty for two people. First tried the Chicken Noodle soup, found that it needed a few crackers to make he taste just right to me. Might have been the added salt. The vegetable soup also needed a few crackers but did add a little salt and pepper to my taste. The service was fast and friendly. I was there about 3pm on a Tuesday. We stopped in for a late lunch yesterday. We were greeted by a lovely young man (who also manned the check out) and were seated immediately. Our waitress was super lovely and took good care of us. My husband ordered the Blueberry Pancakes (not too terribly long ago they would ask you if you wanted a regular order or a short stack...they do not do that anymore so we figured it was one size fits all nowadays). I ordered a regular Grilled Cheese sandwich that came with fries. When my husbands pancakes arrived he has a look of bewilderment. Now mind you, he is not a big eater...but to get a plate of 4 pancakes (of which looked a hair bigger than silver dollar pancakes...well...we were amazed to say the least). He looked at me and said...Really? lol My Grilled Cheese & Fries arrives....sandwich was fine...a grilled cheese...the fries were SO overcooked they were inedible. I kind of miss how Bob Evans used to be....prices are higher, portion sizes are smaller and quality control just does not seem to be there... I enjoy Bob Evans... their food is always good and while I'm not sure I'd define it as "comfort food" the menu selections seem to be things you'd make at home. This location is clean and staff are courteous. I've never ran into a problem with my orders. They offer curb side takeout service which is really nice for nights I don't feel like making dinner but want something that feels like a home-cooked meal. As for menu selections, I love their turkey dinner and the knife and fork turkey sandwich. It's kind of like Thanksgiving any day of the year. The turkey dinner is around $11 and you get quite a bit of food. Other good meals here include the chicken pot pie and the meatloaf. Breakfast here is great, only possibly beat by a good breakfast buffet. Desserts are pretty good as well. A small but good selection of pies. I'm pretty sure you can order the pies as full pies for carry out as well, but I'm not totally sure. They also have a large bakery selection. read more

So we went to Bob Evans On Friday around dinner hour. The first red flag should have been we were the only people in the entire restaurant. I noticed the menu had changed (again) and some the entrees they were know for were gone. The second flag was no Heinz ketchup anymore, but rather a private label. Third flag I should have acknowledged was that the new menu and prices were much higher than the last time I was there. Had side salad with Thousand Island Dressing Wait they no longer carry thousand island dressing. Changed to caesar dressing. Nope.;They don't have that salad dressing any more either. I settled on Atlantic Cod, ($12.99) and asked for malt vinegar. NOPE. They no longer have malt vinegar (for the fish) When the 'cod' arrived, it resembled a piece of wood taken from depths of Lake Erie (near the Fermi Nuclear Plant) I could not cut through the breading on the fish it was so hard. NO JOKE, I picked it up and banged it on the table trying to break through the crust. When I finally got it broken in half, well.... Atlantic cod is a rather delicate and flaky white fish. (or supposed to be) Inside was hardened almost rigor mortis like thing that had grayish-brown blotches on it. The manager came over totally agreed, and took it off the bill. I asked her how anyone in the back room could, in good mind, serve this to a customer unless they had vision problems. A few of the employees (no names to be mentioned), stated that so many customers have been complaining as well. For me, worst fish I ever (did not eat). What in the world is going with Bob Evans? I won' t even touch on the cleanliness (or lack of). It's like the new corporation that took them over is trying to purposely drive it into the ground (much like the CEO of Sears did with that company). What else could it be? I feel sorry for the employees that work there. They all stated that they have no "say so" and all decisions are made by the new corporate people. And by the way, this is Michigan going into the winter season. Nothing like ordering a bowl of chili to warm ya up. NOPE: Chili has been scratched from the menu. It would be easy for me to scratch my head and say WTF, but that would be a waste of my time and energy because obviously the owners could not care less about customers. We got 2 eggs, 2 sides of meat, hash browns, and 3 big pancakes! It was delicious & the service was great! In the summertime, we like to get their Strawberry Glazed Pie with cream cheese! I normally come here for breakfast with friends or carry out. Always loved it. Until today. So I placed a carry out order. Whoever took my order was fantastic. I asked her if she could run the food to my car. She said that wasn't a problem. Now... I always ask because I have a knee replacement and it's difficult to walk. My husband and I had some business to take care of in the area and decided to stop in for lunch. It was a little before 11am. We were seated quickly and greeted by the server who was nice and attentive thru-out our dining experience. The table was only partially cleaned. Our half of the table looked okay, but the two seats near the window had salt or sugar spilled over the table and the condiments were in disarray. Not much care was taken to completely clean off the table. I ordered the Bob Evans breakfast which included 2-meats, 2-eggs, choice of potato and choice of pancakes, crepes or french toast. I chose ham and bacon, cubed potatoes, french toast and eggs over medium. Only complaint is the bacon was much too salty. My husband ordered the pot roast dinner. It looked pretty good, but my husband was disappointed to find that the dish did not have much roast. There was more mashed potatoes, carrots and gravy than actual meat. My husband did not find the meal very filling. He ended up ordering the peanut butter pie. He did not like the chocolate whipped topping. He thought it was too much fluff. I have to say this was the worst visit I have has at Bob Evans. So it's a Friday night and it was a steady crowd but no one was waiting and it was not that packed. Our waitress slapped our drinks on the table and barley spoke one word to us and walked away. Then while waiting for our food my fiance witnessed one of the cooks eating a fry off his plate. Then once our food came it was completely messed up my fiance didn't even get the food he ordered and mine was teeny portions and cold. While waiting for sides that were supposed to be for my fiance he's seen them digging something out of his macaroni and cheese and then proceeding to hand it to him I mean come on !!!! While we were finishing all the other tables surrounding us we're getting more and more irritated because things that they have ordered had taken more than a half-hour to get to them. We went to this Bob Evans this morning (again) and (again) it was terrible. We were shown in (2 of us) but there were about 6-7 booths and several tables that were not cleared off so we had to sit at a table for 6 because of all the dirty booths/tables that had not been cleaned. It was around 11:15 a.m. I asked why so many booths had not been cleared, and the answer was it's the service people's job (waitresses). We waited for 5 minutes for our coffee; it came out, and was awful. My husband said he is not drinking it. Tasted old and strong. After 5-10 more minutes no one came to take our order, but one waitress was clearing off 2 other tables while we sat and watched. In looking around as we were sitting there waiting, we noticed the smudges and dirt on the windows separating the two dining rooms. It looked like they had not been cleaned in months. We have gone to this particular Bob Evans in the past and the last two times were tragic experiences as well.
