Cal Taco Fresh Grill in Goleta is a popular fast-casual spot known for quality Mexican-American food, particularly their carne asada fries, large burritos, and char-burgers. It offers a casual atmosphere with covered outdoor seating and friendly service, often praised for its fresh ingredients. Freshly grilled, flavorful meats. Known for large, filling portions. Small salsa bar and a small selection of beer on tap.

The prices are cheap here. Super cheap. There's a decent menu selection, with a small salsa bar and a small but impressive selection of beer on tap. Staff was very friendly. I was told I had to try their Char Burger and I'm glad I listened. They even give you a choice of cheese to top your burger. Well seasoned, comparable to Chubbie's or The Spot. I also tried a beef taco and it was very good. Her taco combo came with decent rice and refried beans. Not canned, real beans. OK, these were dang good beans. Our only complaint? Too much topping on the burger and tacos. All that lettuce, tomato, onions, etc., makes it a little harder to bite into and a little harder to taste the meat.

My husband and I decided to give this place a try. We were happy that it did not disappoint. My husband got the cheeseburger (for the cheese, you have to pay .75 cents). And we aslo ordered steak nachos and steak taco. The serving was just right and price is reasonable. The steak nachos and steak tacos were both flavorful. Customer service was also good. We most likely will be visiting this place again.

I get them with salsa and ranch on the side (no ketchup). BIG.

Absolutely check this place for the Tacos. Service is fast. Prices seem a bit high but worth it. Sweet salsa bar.

On top of that, the ingredients were distributed completely unevenly between the two halves. I literally had to take both halves apart and redistribute everything myself just to make it edible. Nothing about this felt fresh. I also swapped the "house-made chips" for tater tots -- which turned out to be the exact Ore-Ida frozen tots you buy at the grocery store, and even worse... they were undercooked and mushy. I am willing to bet I just paid $16 for about $2.50 worth of ingredients. For $16, this was not just underwhelming -- it was bad, REAL BAD. Do NOT order this sandwich.

I was pleased to see that happy hour was still being offered despite the holiday. The menu offers a nice selection of bites and discounted drinks at great prices! For food, we ordered the carne asada flatbread, onion rings, garlic herb fries, and chicken wings. All of which were enjoyable! Although, I will mention that the carne asada had a slightly funny taste that wasn't very pleasing. It was tolerable, but could have been better. Despite that, the food was delicious. We also ordered the white chocolate & raspberry cheesecake. The cheesecake comes from the Cheesecake Factory! So, you know it's going to be good and it was. The presentation was beautiful as well. For drinks, I had the Prickly Pear margarita and Paloma. Both were well made and refreshing to drink. I love the rooftop vibes here! The layout is great and the views are amazing. More like Mountain View's, but still nice to be up high with sky views. There's also a restroom available, so you don't have to go downstairs. Our waitress Caitlyn was such a sweetheart throughout our visit. She had great recommendations and consistently checked on us. The music was great and it was good vibes all around! They have different bands that play here. Check out their website or instagram for more information on that. Overall, a lovely time was had and I would definitely come back here.

This visit was unfortunately our worst experience there by far. It was the first time we'd sat in the dining room instead of the bar. It was early - around 5:00. The happy hour buffalo chicken sliders and Brussels sprouts were good. However, things went downhill with our entrees. My tri-tip dinner (ordered medium rare) arrived as two thin slices of medium rare covering three slices of gray, well-done meat underneath. It was tough and tasted old - it seemed like the kitchen was trying to hide poor quality, overcooked meat. My partner's ribeye was cooked to the right temperature but extremely gristly - only about half of the twelve ounces was actually edible. When I sent my tri-tip back, our server (who was genuinely trying to help) returned to say they were out of tri-tip and a new one would take 45 minutes. By then my partner was halfway through his steak. I asked to just have the meat removed and I'd just eat my sides. Here's where it went from bad to worse: the manager (owner's daughter) charged us $7 each for the sides as "à la carte" items and argued when I explained I only ate them because that's all I had. She eventually offered 50% off the entrée but her confrontational attitude made things worse. The owner was more understanding when we escalated it to her, but the damage was done. Our server did her best in a tough situation - the issues were with the kitchen and management's handling of the problem. Really heartbroken about this experience at a place we've loved. We'll probably try again someday but will stick to burgers and salads at the bar.

Our experience was overall pretty good. I did feel the servers checking in and attention to us could have been better. There were long periods of time where he didn't check in with us. I also felt the food took quite a while to be made. I used to be a waitress in the past. We sat outside and it was not that busy. The inside was open. The servers were very sweet as were the hostesses. The cinnamon bun for the table was good as well. Now for the bad. They had a ton of runners yet we couldn't get them to give us water no matter how much we asked for it. It took forever just to get our drinks. When my friend asked for some hot sauce for her food, bloody Mary mix was brought over in a ramekin. Having bartender a while back, I know clam juice when I taste it. And I was having a bloody Mary and it tasted exactly the same. Not to mention the fact it was very watery and it tasted like straight fire. I love hot sauce, but this had no finesse and it wasn't hot sauce. She asked for it again and she got the same thing. She needed hot sauce because the food really was not seasoned. I got avocado toast and I had to salt and pepper the hell out of that thing. Her hollandaise was bland and my friends clam chowder tasted like nothing. It was just like food out of a retirement community. I want to go back to the fact that the servers were really sweet. I don't discount that and they did hire nice people. But when you have that many runners and servers, the service should be better. And they really need to start using a little salt and pepper on their food. When you have prices like that people expect more.
