I bought a short sale home that practically needed to be torn down because of all the termites, carpenter ants, wood rot, mold, and owner negligence. I interviewed 8 different general contractors, many of whose prices were outrageous and professionalism mediocre at best (late, bids were disorganized or extremely vague, didn't follow up with items they were supposed to provide, impossible to reach on the phone, so-so examples of work, high prices for doing the bare minimum, wanting to hook me into a contract, design consultations and fees up front, bid included base options and allowances were sure to be exceeded, charging percentages on top of material costs). Cal GC wasn't the absolute cheapest but not even close to the most expensive. Why I awarded them the job was the combination of their experience, professionalism, examples of work, honesty, easy to communicate with, and of course price. After working with them I couldn't be happier with my choice. Cal GC always as available to me over the phone and in person. Workers were there when they were supposed to be, never messing around, always working hard even in heat and in the crawl spaces that I would have passed out in. Problems were brought to my attention immediately so I could be included in the decision of how to address. The quality of work was unbelievable; what Cal GC did most didn't even offer with their bids. This was also my first remodel and a huge project, I will admit sometimes I felt overwhelmed by all the work; Cal GC reassured me we kept the project moving under budget and exceeding my expectations. I am so happy that I have referred many friends, family and co-workers over and even open my home up to their potential clients to show off their work. read more
