My home has close to 30 windows, so the cost of replacing them would have been very high if I had chosen a more reputable window replacement company. But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. This company offers low prices, but it's clear the owner has never even held a hammer. He couldn't measure the windows correctly, and for two of the installations, his team had to return the windows after finally taking the correct measurements. They replaced about 17 in total at my home. I wish they hadn't. As for his team, they don't even work for him directly. One had a heavy Eastern European accent and told me he works for another company but helps this guy after hours or on his days off. The crew, consisting of two workers (the other also being a weekend warrior), both had terrible attitudes. One of the windows was installed so poorly that I experienced water damage in the bedroom after heavy rain. The owner was no help at all. He was in Vegas, trying to contact his crew, but they never returned his calls. He even yelled at me for putting pressure on him, saying it wasn't his fault that his crew wasn't responding. This guy is a joke. Why am I posting this after so many years? I recently discovered that the reason wasps are getting into my master shower is because his so-called 'weekend warrior' didn't even bother to seal the window. This guy has caused more damage than the money he supposedly saved me. I should have taken legal action against him for all the damage he caused to my home. read more

Cal Construction Enterprises - General Contractors Near Me

The Skinny: Great, probably unbeatable, price Terrible customer service The Story: Beginning - August 2017 started well, but wrong patio door ordered (right side open, instead of left) we went out of town for a couple of weeks never heard from Mike when we got back Middle - had to call Mike repeatedly, very little contact from him claimed contractors were injured or unavailable had to ask for a discount even though he was in the wrong End - November 2017 a different contractor came to uninstall the wrong patio door and reinstall the patio door door had a few scratches glad to just be done To Mike: you are friendly, but your business practices decrease your reputation. If you would prioritize customer service, then you could flourish. read more

I submitted requests to multiple companies for quotes. Mike was the only one to call me back promptly and come out for an estimate same day. His price was reasonable and he seemed pretty knowledgeable. He was good about determining which side to slide to improve airflow. We signed the deal same day. It was a little annoying he usually only takes cash so I had to pay the credit card fee but I was happy to get started. One of the things we discussed was that I was ordering blinds that were going to be set induce the frame so I needed at least 2 inches of frame/will to mount the blinds. Mike said no problem and assured me I could order the blinds. I waited weeks for the windows and finally called to check. I was told they were coming and I was scheduled for that Saturday. No one had checked prior to see if that was ok. I was going out of town but figured I could make it work. That morning they told me they couldn't do it. They didn't come back until Tuesday. One guy on his own. Remy was nice and friendly. I got home and saw the windows had been set so far into the frames that the blinds stuck out. I paid $3000 for the blinds and was not happy that they would now look funny. Mike and Remy suggested they could re-frame the windows with a thicker trim to offset the overlap. They would also need to install new window sills since there wasn't much room to even put a small plant. Remy installed all 7 windows in one day and came back the next day to finish the trim. He informed me one of my screens was missing and he would have to get me another one. It has been 3 months and I still don't have that screen. Multiple times Remy said he would come out but another job airways interfered or was cancelled and he apparently couldn't be bothered to waste a trip just to bring my screen. I have spoken to Mike a couple times about it but still no screen. When the install was complete Remy expected cash payment. I told him that Mike and I already discussed using a card. Mike called me the next day to arrange payment. Multiple times I confirmed the amount with him, it was in writing, and yet he charged my card $200 more than we agreed upon. I told him to hold it for now because I was going to have them do the sills. Since they have been so flaky about the screen, I decided I didn't want them to do the sills/frames. I have called Mike multiple to ask for my refund and inquire about my screen. 5 months later I am still waiting for my refund and my screen. I also sent both him and Remy messages showing how the trim had already started peeling away but neither responded. Based on service alone I say 1 start but the windows are good so I gave 2 them 2 stars. I would suggest not paying for the job until it is completely done. Given my experience and other reviews I saw, they don't seem to care once they have their money. read more

NO STARS...Do NOT USE !!! This guy is truly a salesman who CANNOT back his work. My windows are leaking. Floor damage to original hardwood floors and ceiling damage to the unit below. He had his man use foam to secure the window and didn't use wood leaving big gaps. My General Contractor went behind him to finish the inside of the windows framing them out THEN he added the trim wood. Also, could not pass the City of Oakland permit process until I hired another General Contractor to put window locks on my 2-bay windows (child-proofing) required by the City. These are things a professional window person would know. I too, took the lowest bidder...Wish I had gone with Lowes or another company as I would have gotten a better response to repairs and quality of work. Adriene S. read more

A few days after filing with the BBB the original contractor Emmy came back to finish the job. It was a half-ass attempt and the job was poorly done. Now I am here more than a year later and am about to pay someone to come back and undo some of the shoddy work done and have it done right. Looking back I realize that Cal is very good at his job, which is to say he is a good snake oil salesman. He convinced me he was the person for the job but his employee did not share his enthusiasm. The windows they installed are fine but all of the additional work he upsold me look awful and the amount of regret I feel because of it is worse than the money I spent on it. This is my home and every time I look at the trim, the windowsills, and the crap job they did in installing them, the angrier I get. I am adding this to my review because I don't want anyone else to feel the way I do now. read more

Cedar Properties has been working with Cal Enterprises for over 6 years, and Mike and his team have completed over 40 jobs for our company. We have maintained our relationship with them because they have proven to be very knowledgeable in the work they do, professional in how they complete their work and interact with our residents and staff, dependable when asked to meet deadlines, accountable for all of the work they complete, and fair in their pricing. Most importantly, the work they do, whether windows or doors, is always great quality and leaves our property owners and residents happy. read more

We approached Mike Calhoun in early May to provide us with a quote for replacing two large sliding doors and two windows in the back of our home. Mike's quote for the work was fully 40% lower than Home Depot and Sears, which concerned me enough to request several references from him for consultation. All four of the references that I contacted from Mike had GLOWING appraisals of his work, professionalism and installation quality. All were recent jobs in the East Bay. As a result, I gave the contract to Mike in early June. My experience with his installation crew and foreman was exemplary! Immediately (same day) after giving Mike the order, his foreman showed up at the house and re-measured the windows to make sure that we had a perfect fit. 10 days after the order was placed, they called me to let me know that they had the windows in and were ready to install. We had them come out 3 days later. The crew showed up promptly at 8am and immediately went to work. The installation went off without a hitch. They sealed the windows and doors up completely and the workmanship is awesome. The windows and doors look great! MIke suggest that we consider a bay window in the kitchen, which we went with and are so glad we did. It opened up the kitchen to the back yard - adding strong appeal to the entire back of the house! I would recommend mike to anyone! We will have him install the remaining windows in the house next year. I would not worry about the negative reviews that appear in Yelp on his company - - these are likely competitors who are tired of getting their butts kicked by Mike! read more

The owner is definitely not professional. He was very unhappy with the honest negative review and even threatened me. Real class. Real customer service. It's really interesting to see that there are "five stars" glowing reviews and then there are the "one star" negative reviews. Interesting to see such polarized reviews. Here is a suggestion Mike. Next time someone gives you a negative review, try listening and then offer your customer another chance to make it right. This will go a lot further for your business than threatening your clients. read more

I contacted Mike from Cal Enterprises for an estimate on new double paned windows for my mobile home, I need a sound barrier from the very noisy street I live on. Mike had the best price and excellent sales pitch, I felt I could trust him. First of all his crew was 5 hrs. late. Second the window frame's were improperly measured but that did not matter to them because they never took out the old windowsill's or aluminum frames, they set the ill fitting window's in the old frame's which left about a quarter in. space all the way around each window, then proceeded to cover all the frames with vinyl strips and caulking so no one can see the spaces. Because these windows Do Not Fit Snug into the Window Frames I have just as much Noise as before. Also the window in the bathroom was installed in such a Faulty Manner that the Alignment is CROOKED. Bottom line I can hear my neighbor talking to her husband outside my window's, and I'm worried they will leak water sense none of the existing leakage issues that I talked with Mike about at the signing of the contract were addressed. read more

I'm a happy customer. Pros: - Quick estimate. Mike was the first one to get back to me out of the four contractors I reached out to. - Price. Mike's price was lowest of all the bids I received. - Eye for detail and design. Mike spent a good amount of time in my home discussing design ideas and window options. We made a few changes that turned out great. - Flexibility. I spent months deciding over options. Mike was flexible and was able to work with each of the changes I requested. - Experience. Mike has been doing this for a long time. He knows what he's doing. - Family business feel. I think Mike's dad started the company. Certainly feels like a small family run business. This is a good thing. Mike is the owner and he will know you by name. - Installation. The installers were excellent. Emmy and his assistant TJ (who apparently is his father... again, family business) were quick, considerate, and professional. They have a combined 35 years of experience installing windows. True tradesmen. Cons: - Communication could be better. Although I appreciate the old school way of doing things (Mike took my order with just a verbal go-ahead over the phone), the lack of formalities could make some feel a little uneasy. - Mike estimated that he could install in roughly 2 weeks. In truth installation happened about a month after I placed my order. Not a problem for me, but again for others that may be a concern. All in all I am very happy with the service and final product. The windows are great and the installation was seamless. Cal Enterprises has my recommendation. read more

Sold on the idea of new double-paned windows since I had the original windows from 1982. The quality of the product is definitely outstanding. But customer service lacked and installation quality of the workers was messy. I understand that the workers will need to be inside and outside the house, but have the courtesy to ask if shoes are to be removed or lay down covers on the floor. The man just walked straight into my house without asking about his shoes seeing that my shoes were removed and all my kids' shoes were off, too. They had to come back 3 times and each time was a mess. I dreaded each time they came because I knew I had to wipe the floors again. Just wanted them to be done and gone. They also do not wipe down the windows which I was not aware of. So my top window had all their fingerprints on them. I had to find a window cleaner off Groupon to do my windows after Calhoun was done. I agree with both reviews dated 7/19/2015. read more

In August of this year, I found a window and door company called Cal Enterprises in Danville. They installed three French doors and fourteen windows in 1904 Berkeley brown shingle. I'd gotten four previous bids, and theirs was the lowest. I chose them, I think just because I felt more comfortable with their owner, Mike Calhoun. What was an added bonus was that he helped us a lot with design issues, something I hadn't even thought about . Everything looked terrific, and the installers were clean, quick and professional. read more

Mike and his team were a great resource. They came up with a creative solution to replace three crowded windows with one big window in the master bedroom. They did a great job and they were at least 25% less than all other bids. read more

After no response from Mike regarding my service needs, I filed a service request through the Simonton website and received a follow-up call from them within a few days letting me know that they had ordered the necessary parts and someone would be contacting me to schedule the repair service. Within one week Garth Forster called and scheduled my service call for the following week. As it turns out, he's a licensed contractor who has represented Simonton for 20 years or so, and sells, installs and services them as well. He was a very nice professional guy who also lives in Danville. So, if you want a bid from him, he can be contacted at 925 858-5343. He invited me to contact him anytime should I have a service need.....despite the fact that he didn't profit from selling me my windows, however Mike did, and not there when I needed him. Don't understand why he gives his customers a warranty doc with instructions to contact him for service if he doesn't want to hear from you after the sale! read more

I am equally puzzled by the polarized reviews, but Mike/Cal Enterprise did our house with a wonderful job, a year later did an apartment we own and rent out, again nicely done and priced right. I referred at least 6 friends to him and all have been thrilled with the installs over the last couple years. All I can say is my experience over multiple jobs over multiple years has been very positive. Myself and my friends all react why didn't we do these window and door replacements sooner! read more

We have used Mike of Cal Enterprises for three separate jobs - a full window replacement in Danville and for two separate jobs at our new home in Moraga. Every time Mike was professional and his pricing was extremely competitive. Each of his crew members are professional and clean with their work. We have a new standard for stucco repair after using one of Mike's members. Mike is friendly, courteous, and cares about his clients satisfaction. We wont ever hire another window company as long as Mike is around. read more

Mike gave us the lowest bid and did a good installation job. Later I found that one of the windows developed moisture in it. Left him several messages but was yet to hear a response back from him. They lack after sale customer sale. We originally planned to have him work on our second phase windows replacement early next year, but based on his responsiveness we may go with other vendors. read more

Fantastic! Spectacular! We are so very thankful & deeply grateful for this wonderful business! Don't look any further! You will absolutely receive the finest work anywhere, and the greatest service, EVER! We have owned our home, for more than 16 years, and have had the worst luck with contractors and most service "professionals." Then, I happened to find Cal Enterprises, called Mike, and the rest is history - a really terrific history, and a wonderful present, and future, with this company. Mike (the owner) has stopped by several times, personally walked through our home, saw what the issues are, and came back to do the same with my better half. He actually returned a third time, to go through everything with us, one final time, all together, and answered our interim questions. Then, within just five days, our custom-ordered, oversized, sliding glass doors arrived, and the installers/contractors (also EXCEPTIONALLY FANTASTIC), came over to remove our dilapidated, 20 year old family room sliding door, as well as our master bedroom French Doors. They were incredibly diligent, clean, and quick! They installed 2 new sliding doors that are AMAZING!!!! There really are no words of praise that are strong enough to describe just how AWESOME this team is! Just SPECTACULAR! They found dry rot, when removing our master bedroom French Doors and immediately, they asked me to come over, showed me the rot, offered me several options, for how to deal with repairing the area, and in the blink of an eye, everything was completed, and installed PERFECTLY!!!! I've since contacted Mike, to ask him other questions and discuss other issues that have come up, with our aging, 20 year-old home, and Mike is so incredibly responsive. He immediately calls me back and is so INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY, CARING, PROFESSIONAL & HELPFUL! We still have another 12+ windows to replace, which have been broken for years. The Cal Enterprises "pricing" is so competitive, and truly reasonable, that we actually can now afford to change out ALL our windows! The quality of the sliding doors they have installed is SUPERB!!!! Our home was built in 1996, and at the time, the builder installed these ridiculously expensive "Milgard" windows, which are considered "top of the line" - but ALL have lost their seals and/or just outright have broken, and within the first 10 years they were installed! It was such a pain, dealing with Milgard, to have them replace their defective windows, that we just gave up and suffered for years, until I found Cal Enterprises. Mike came over to our home, took one look, and asked, "How about a product that is so good, the company actually offers a double, lifetime warranty? At almost half the price?" Really?!YES!!! And our new sliding doors are just PHENOMENAL!!!! I cannot wait to call Mike again, and ask him to go ahead and replace ALL our windows! (The hold up is my better half, who is worried about all the flowers & flowering vines that we planted in our backyard, along the back wall of our house, right under the defective, broken Milgard windows. No problem! They will build a scaffold, over the flowers out back, and can also work from the inside of our home)! Honestly, if I could give this company a ZILLION STARS, I would in a heartbeat! Truly! They have treated us so well, their work is just spectacular, the products they install are absolutely phenomenal, and their pricing is so incredibly reasonable, especially in a climate where it seems everyone else is trying to 'overbid' competitors, that we feel truly BLESSED to have found Cal Enterprises! Thank you ALL, so very much, for restoring our faith, and giving us the wonderful opportunity to rave about you to everyone, perpetually! This is our very first Yelp review because no company was ever worth a comment.... Everyone working with Cal Enterprises: YOU ARE ALL ROCK STARS!!!! read more

Cal Construction Enterprises - French Doors converted to a sliding door. More functional & eliminates the blazing heat from the afternoon sun. Many thanks! - General Contractors Near Me

I contracted Cal Enterprises and Mike to replace 13 windows, 2 french sliding doors, and a garden window. Mike came out to my home and it was very obvious after 30 minutes that he really knew his stuff. With his construction expertise and suggestions we made several non routine changes. The windows that we chose were by Simonton and were installed perfectly. At no time did we feel pressured into making a hasty decision. We proceeded to get two more bids of which both were substantially higher in price, and we did not feel as comfortable with the salesman that came out. Mike, as owner obviously had the flexibility to do whatever we wanted to do. My wife and I talked over all the possibilities that the three of us came up with and made a decision within a week. We were relieved to hear that there was no deposit required thus easing any concerns. It's been over 6 months since the windows have been put in, and we've been through a summer and winter and they're fantastic. While we're in a very cold winter currently we're amazed at how well the new windows are performing. Mike had represented that they would be very good and I would honestly say that they've exceeded both our expectations. I would highly recommend Cal Enterprises to anyone out there that might read this for there integrity, workmanship, price, and GREAT ideas that nobody else had ever suggested to us before. read more

Cal Enterprises installed 16 windows in our home. They hit bullseye's all the way around - great windows, great price and friendly, professional service. Would definitely recommend them. read more

Cal Enterprises was hired by my landlord to replace my windows. I initially talked to Mike and he gave me a date for when they would come to do it. I didn't hear anything from them until about a week and a half later, when they scheduled to come in that Tuesday. They called that morning to cancel, and told me they would call me back later that afternoon to reschedule. I didn't receive a call that day. Thursday morning they knocked on my door, without having called, and said they were there to replace my windows. I expressed my dissatisfaction, and they apologized and told me about how professional they were (which didn't really make sense considering the delays and them showing up unannounced). When I came back to lock up my apartment after they were finished, they again bragged about how professional they were and how great of a job they did. They said they vacuumed my apartment, but suggested I do it again just in case there were any glass shards. And there were plenty- covering my table, in various storage containers, on furniture, and even on the windowsills. Apparently they didn't do a great job of vacuuming either, because while I was doing it again I got a piece of glass stuck in my foot (very painful and bloody). They also left marks on my table and moved furniture without making any attempt to move it back where they found it. Although the windows seem to be fine so far, it has been a pain (figuratively and literally) cleaning up after their mess. Being a company that specializes in replacing windows, one would think that they would be more respectful and have more efficient ways of preventing a mess and keeping glass shards from ending up all over and in their customers' items. read more

We had an entire house and sliders installed by Mike and his subs. With all the rain we have had our upstairs sliders are leaking into our downstairs. If u use this company you are fools. read more

Mike is a good salesman but ordered wrong sizes of sliders. and wanted me to pay to reorder of the correct sizes. He assured me these would fit ok, with a little trimming. The installers had to take 2 inches off top and a couple on each side, and floor to put them in. This of course, was a dirty dusty job, still cleaning dust. Too boot, one slider pulls the wrong way. I must say the crew who did the windows was wonderful, but they wouldn't put these sliders in because of size differences. Had to wait till Mike could find another crew of 2, who would do it. They worked very hard 10 hr days. I believe Mike really screwed up! leave me a message if you can help. read more

Extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism experienced with this company and Mike Calhoun in particular. He blew off first appointment which was scheduled a week in advance. Then rescheduled for another time and he arrived almost an hour late. However, we were impressed with his extensive knowledge and recommendations. We decided to listen to the glowing reviews and ignored the bad ones and awarded him the business. Well lesson learned, do not ignore the bad reviews! After more than 2 weeks of trying to get a hold of Mike via phone, texts and emails, to confirm job and install date. Absolutely no response from him in 2 weeks, he finally responded with "we decided to pass on the job". He provided some lame excuse that he couldn't install Anderson windows because something always goes wrong with them. Why would he spend almost 2 hours at our home convincing us that this was the way to go, to later tell us Anderson is a bad choice. I think Cal Enterprises was the bad choice. read more

We hired Mike to repair our windows. At first seemed like Mike is very professional and will stick to his words...that's a BIG MISTAKE. We WOULD NOT recommend his company for any work. His contractor Luis did not do a good job, one of our windows leaked during the little rain. After making 9-10 appointments with them, no response. None of them came to repair our windows even after 3 months of going back and forth. On top of this un-professional attitude, they have the attitude as if they are doing a favor. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SERVICE. It's a rip off read more

I've seen estimates for $12k for a similar product where Mike and Cal Enterprises Construction comes in at $7500... Virtually the same product and Low-e glass for $4500 less!? Plus the best warranty hands down makes Cal Enterprises the best choice by far. They have a low overhead and don't do a ton of advertising which makes the bottom line so sweet. Five Stars/Five Stars and consider yourself lucky to find such an awesome company. I worked with Mike years ago, full disclosue but everything I say is true, cross my heart. Mike won't let you down. He's not an internet guy but if he were there would be nothing but 5 star reviews because, construction will always have it's issues but what really matters is how the company responds and Mike will fix any issue that may arise and he backs it up with a 10 year installation warranty and the lifetime manufactures warranty. I never had a single unresolved issue. Not one. Mike is the real deal! CEC has an A+ BBB RATING for a reason. Peace! We had about a dozen bay area companies quote new windows for our home. Cal Enterprise came in with the best price, and in my opinion - the best product. Overall a great experience and will use Cal Enterprise Construction for more interior work. Highly recommend. read more

Just finished a whole house project with Mike (Cal Enterprises). In our main living spaces we extended a patio door (8' to 11'), added windows (now have a beautiful view), added two large bay windows, plus, one for one change out to new windows in bedrooms. We first met Mike C. of Cal Enterprises over a year and a half ago. My husband and I were quite impressed with his presentation, friendliness, and the bid he submitted. However, due to other projects that precluded us being able to replace our windows, we put the project on hold. Mike contacted us again about 6 months ago. He had not forgotten us and just wanted to know how we were and if we had ever replaced our windows. We had not yet. It was a very pleasant phone call with no pressure from Mike. We were impressed with his follow-up and in February 2016, decided it was the right time to resume the project of replacing our windows. Mike came over again to discuss the details of the project, had the original bid in hand so we could review, and in the end, committed to the project of replacing all the windows in our home on just a handshake. A few weeks later, Mike W. came over to commence the project. He and his crew were done in 2 and a half days. Mike W. did come back a couple of weeks later to finish a few finishing touches that we had requested. We now have absolutely gorgeous new windows, a new garden window, and new sliding glass door with beautiful trim! And only after Mike C. knew that we were completely satisfied with the job did he take our payment for the entire project. The project of replacing our windows took about a year and a half; it was drawn out because of us. I have to say that through it all, Mike C. was very patient and accommodating. I read all the yelp reviews, and while they caused some consternation, my husband and I decided to go with Mike C. and Cal Enterprises, because, from the beginning and every step along the way during our project, whenever we made any requests, Mike C. and Mike W. always came through and we were happy. Thank you Mike C. and Mike W. for a very successful project! We appreciate your patience and honest, hard work and we are thrilled about our new, beautiful windows! read more

I had 11 windows and 3 sliding glass doors(Simonton Daylight Max) installed by Cal Enterprises earlier this month. My experience with Mike Calhoun and his crew was positive from start to finish(slightly over 2 weeks from contract to completion.) Mike not only quoted the lowest price of about 8 quotes, it was his first quote. Others seemed to negotiate their prices. I was particularly impressed by his suggestions for styling the windows in ways to get best advantage of the views and at no extra cost. No other salesman made those suggestions and I love the results. He and his crew were conscientious throughout the installation. They even made a few repairs to my balcony without additional charge. I must say I almost didn't hire this company because of the negative reviews on Yelp, but I liked Mike and when I checked his references they were all excellent. I randomly called about half the 18 or so numbers he gave to me. I highly recommend Cal Enterprises andMike Calhoun. read more

I had my first and second floors of my townhouse replaced by another company several years ago. Called the company back to complete the final 5 windows, two large picture windows two large sliders and a small slider. They provided an estimate that was outrageous. I called Mike at Cal Enterprises and he (the owner) showed up very quickly. I realized we had met years ago when a had a leak in my townhouse and the HOA said it was my window. Mike showed up then and said its not your window its your roof. He could have sold me new windows but was honest. So he shows up this spring and gives a fair competitive price. Now the installers did it in three separate visits due to weather, roof replacement...
