I've driven by this place so many times and I never stopped by. Well I'm glad that I stopped by the other day. Cake Works is one of those businesses in Five Star and they offer many rewards. It was because of the rewards that week that made me curious about this place. On my app, it said that I could come in for four free cupcakes!! I thought that was such a great find. I get there and it's a small little bakery right across the street from the Humane Society. Parking is a little tricky but I think of you are coming from the West side, just take the King street exit, make a u turn up the hill, and it will put you right there. It looks like they only have a few parking spots so that might be hard if all of them are taken. The lady at the counter was very nice. I figure that I would get something else in addition to the free cupcakes. I was gonna get the macarons but each one was like $3. But she said that they had a better option if I didn't care about what flavors I got. They have a "broken" pieces macaron box that they sell. It's all the macarons that didn't come out perfectly. Like there's a chip in it or it's like scraped on the side. It was $5 for 6 macarons. I got that. I didn't care if it was broken. It all goes to the same place and it gave me a chance to try other flavors. I also got to choose my four free cupcakes. It wasn't those mini cupcakes. I actually got to choose regular sized cupcakes. Because it was the end of the day, there weren't that many left. The ones I chose were chocolate caramel, lemon, strawberry guava, and chocolate. I tried the lemon and chocolate caramel and they were both delicious. I think I like the chocolate caramel one the best. I ate that at night and that was a mistake. I'm sensitive to chocolate so I couldn't sleep that night. But it's okay, because it was all worth it. The macarons were good as well. They were a little crispy on the outside which was nice and different. Good fillings and I'm glad that I got to sample many types. So if you haven't stopped by Cake Works, give them a try. I would not recommend. Wouldn't have written a review as I've only used them once, but they sent an email asking me to. 1.No attention to detail I asked for a cake with a world map on it, and sent them the photo of what I wanted. It was not what I asked for. What I wanted was a map that had light water colors mixed together, what I got was ribbons of dark blue and green. It's the details that make something lovely or meh. For $130 dollars, you think they'd pay attention to detail. 2. It didn't taste good When something is made of purely sugar it's hard to go wrong. But somehow it really wasn't good, and we all agreed. read more

so they sid not make my wedding cake sue to a "no print out of order"‍ and for the compensation, Cale Works gave me a complete refund and a free 8" cake! I am still hurt from not having a wedding cake for my big day and the embarrassment i felt that day with my family and friend asking me wheres your cake!?! but i guess i am ok! so i had ordered the free 8" cake but couldn't get a specially made one, just one from there featured cakes online! it was for a baby shower! so i had asked for them to make it in the colors of the shower theme! all in all, it was nice but not a show case item foe the table and it did not stand out! it tasted real good, guave cake! i also added flowers at the top to try and make it not so plan! read more

I got my Mardi Gras king cake from here. It's the only place that I know of on the whole island where I can get one. That being said the cake is actually very good. It's not quite authentic, but it's very good but the best part is that the owner Asked me for tips and hints to make it better. That goes along way! I will forever be buying my king cakes from here, and watching them progress. The king cakes have one flavor, cinnamon. I suggested that they add different flavors and hopefully they will. I will give them the five stars because they are the only people that cared enough to make king cakes in Hawaii! read more

Tried twice..failed twice. Ruined two separate birthday celebrations. First one was dry, they claimed thats the cake style. 2nd cake was just as dry with an immense amount of frosting.. not enough to justify $60 price tag. It seems as though they may use precooked cake and just pull them out of freezer. Unfortunately, Safeway or any cake mix beat their chocolate cake choices. Manager was nice but if some brings back a cake and tries to work with the small business, you would think the second attempt would get some effort. We even had a pleasant conversation and we both tasted the returned cake and sampled a cupcake version of 2nd cake option. Both my wife and i thought the cupcake was what should have been outcome. I guess cakes are their kryptonite. Things have gone downhill from a couple years ago. I hope they can improve but we will take our business elsewhere. read more

Really awesome cakes! Lots of flavors to choose from - even carrot cake! I like that they give you the option of ordering a personalized cake or ordering one of their "pre-designed" cakes. They have a website where you can request to order a cake online, so that really makes it convenient for us. Super tasty too! We've loved all the cakes we've ever gotten from here so far :) and it's not too far from our home either! Pickup is always timely. read more

I had my daughter's first birthday and hired them for her first birthday cake and cupcakes. The cake and cupcakes were perfectly designed and tasted great! We got the strawberry guava and banana cream it was delicious! The design was perfect for the pineapple birthday party theme! I got a lot of positive feedback from my guests as well! MUST READ!!! I've always seen this place on my way to school in college but never found myself stopping here. I received a notification from Five Stars that Cake Works would gift me 6 pieces of macaroons for my birthday so I decided to stop by. I'm so glad that I did!!! I was honestly a bit confused how to get in for a moment. I didn't know where the door was and rang the doorbell, hehe. Once I got inside, I saw it was a very sweet little place. The lady that helped me was sooo sweet, cause I obviously didn't know what I was doing. I asked her if it would be okay to redeem my free macaroons and she helped me choose 6 different flavors. Aren't they gorgeous? We chatted for a few minutes and the hospitality that was present makes it worth coming back. But these macaroons though. Light, delicate, not too sweet. They were so helpful with customizing our cake! We provided a sketch of what we wanted our cake to look like and it looked just as we wanted. My husband and I live in Virginia and had a destination wedding in Hawaii, and they communicated so well with us and delivered it on time! My husband bought my birthday cake from here and even had it delivered to our residence. It was such an awesome surprise the little details came out so beautifully!!! A few months back I needed a cake for a friends birthday but wanted to support a local bakery as well! I didn't have too much notice so a few bakeries weren't able to accommodate me but when I called up here the man on the phone was super helpful letting me know they would be able to help me and I went into the shop shortly after. He helped me look through the cake book to help visual and helped me pick my size. I picked it up the next day and I was so happy with the outcome! It was beautiful (and delicious). The price was maybe more than others would spend- but it was what I expected for a cake from a smaller bakery (not Costco) of that size and style. Would definitely recommend. read more

First of all, let me preface this by saying I don't usually complain about products. Also, from my past dealings, Cake Works has always produced delicious creations. That being said, I feel I must say something about the cake I purchased recently for my wife's birthday. It was not what I ordered and there are elements about it that, dare I say, are not worthy of the Cake Works name. First off, the cake itself was very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Well done! It was not until we cut, or should I say ATTEMPTED to cut, into the cake that I began to be disappointed. It was very very dense. It was much more like a devil's food cake consistency. When I placed my order, I specifically told them I didn't want a dense cake. It didn't have to be like an Angel's food cake, but still, just a nice dobash-like cake. This cake was SOLID. We had a hard time cutting into it. After we finally managed to cut some pieces to serve, we still decided to eat it since we still expected it to at least taste good. The ganache was excellent. Rich with dark chocolate. The chocolate mousse was also good, although the layers were way too thin in my opinion. It was barely there. The kicker though was the actual cake. It was bone dry and crumbly. The bottom layer was the worst, begging for some kind of moisture so it wouldn't suck the saliva right out of mouth. This was NOT the chocolate mousse cake of Cake Works past which was one of the best cakes I have ever had. This one was it's sad cousin, trying to look the part but not even a reasonable facsimile. Taste-wise it was just okay. Good...not great like in the past. I tried calling so that I could say something rather than writing something so public but with no one answering the phones, I feel I have no other choice than to air my grievances here. Cake Works has long been my go-to bakery for fine baked goods. I don't mind spending the extra money these cakes demand because, from my experience, the quality of the product was worth it. Sadly, this is not the case for my most recent purchase and was not worthy of the $100 price I paid. I know Cake Works can do better. I have experienced it personally. I just hope this shines a light and they give the customer what they ask for moving forward. I still have faith in them. Mahalo for listening. EDIT: And nope, never asked for a chocolate dobash cake. I can get a good one elsewhere. Also, saying that I "insisted" is not entirely accurate. I INQUIRED about a cake you folks made in the past. That's all. Big difference in the wording and the nuance of the intent. Let me also add that after eating the cake, I could tell that quality ingredients were used. It definitely did not taste "cheap and generic" so thank you for that. Well done there. If only it were not so dry and crumbly it would've been fine... read more

This is the second time I've gone to cake works for my cake needs. My first was my wedding and they did a beautiful job on a three tier custom cake. This time they made me a smash cake for my grandson's first birthday. The process for getting my cake was super easy. The prices are good. The flavors are delicious. Got a custom gender reveal cake made and the design/size was absolutely perfect. No fondant was used on the cake, it's all buttercream. The balls on the side are made of chocolate. They were very easy to work with and the ordering process was very smooth. Flavor was great. Everyone loved it! Only cons I would say were: 1. Cake was too dense/heavy vs. light/airy/fluffy (but this is personal preference) 2. We used Cake Works for our wedding favors. I love guava and lilikoi (passion fruit) flavors in general, and their macaron guava and lilikoi flavors were great! The colors of these macarons also happened to match our wedding theme. I asked Cake Works to package them in sets of 2. I bought the clear desert boxes from Amazon and dropped them off at Cake Works. Cake Works also tied a small ribbon of my color choice around the boxes, which made them even more perfect for wedding favors. Cake Works delivered the macarons to my venue on time, looking perfect, and tasting super fresh! I would definitely use them again for any other special events or even if I'm just craving some macarons. You can also buy a sampler box of "imperfect" macarons if you're into the taste more than the looks. read more

We ordered a two-tier red velvet cake. The presentation was simple and elegant. The cake was a tiny wee on the dry side and the frosting was alright. When I first passed by Cake Works I was intrigued and promised to go inside one day. Eight months later I commissioned my birthday cake with their wonderful staff. Very simple and well organized process for custom cakes and they are always very kind. My cake turned out even better than I imagine and the Mocha Macadamia flavor was heavenly. A bit expensive but I suppose this was my first fancy cake so it could be reasonable to you. They have other small treats and even so it's worth a visit just to meet the friendly owners!! read more

I was so excited to see Zarina makes these out of Kapolei!!!And she delivers. After drooling over the instagram page, I contacted Zarina to begin the ordering process. She is super quick and professional in replying. She handcrafts all her zephyrs - no molds here! She can do carnations, hydrangeas, matthiola, lilies, chrysantheums, and more. I chose an assortment of flowers to be done in boxes as I wanted to easily share marshmallows with my loved ones while celebrating. Zarina can make bouquets if you want too! Zarina also makes cakes and cookies. She can do honey cake (medovik), meringue roll cake, pavlova cake, and classic biscuit cake with different fillings, layers, and creams. I'm huge on layers so you know I ordered a honey cake. It is not an easy cake to make and I was soooo impressed with how this came out. It was decadent, moist, and melted in my mouth. My family members who usually don't do dessert thought this was amazing and all talked about the quality. This was top tier. Just look at the layers in the photo. Since my zephyrs were in boxes, I decorated my cake with them for my birthday photos!!! Soooo gorgeous to look at. It was a little sad to eat them because they were so pretty but my taste buds loved it. Light, airy, fluffy, not too sweet, and the right amount of zing from the strawberry puree. Also, Zarina delivers!!! She drove across the island and delivered in the time frame we agreed upon weeks ago. No issue at all. And we just went through a huge storm. Pick up was supposed to be from 12pm-1pm. I messaged her at 11:36am giving her a heads up that I was on my way. Arrived at 12:01pm (right on time) and she informed me that she still wasnt ready. Waited until 12:50pm and had to leave. She wrote back saying she was rushing and "these things take time". Why let me know when I drove 40 minutes to the pick up spot???? If you know you aren't able to make it by the pick up time then why not give me a different window time for pick up or offer delivery? There was no way for me to drive back to Kapolei before my daughters party. I paid $377 for absolutely nothing. She didnt even offer to drop it off to me after making me wait for 50 minutes.

The macarons were my least favorite especially the yuzu and passion fruit flavors that didn't taste anything like those fruits. For $2.50 I wish they were better and not as dry. I am glad I tried them but the prices were a bit much for me.
