Once we found this Bakery gem, we could not stay away. We ordered 4 coconut macaroons each of our 3 trips there. Another favorite of ours was their delicious Lilikoi bars. We bought a full sheet strawberry chiffon cake with a nice red mustang (strawberry guava) car on top of it for our godson's 1st birthday cake. It was big and delicious. It was exactly as described and delivered. They followed our suggestions and instructions to the letter, as well as provided much creative touches. The staff was great to work with in-person and over the phone. The Honey Book business website for communication was easy to work with once we established our accounts. Both cakes were light, airy, and tasty. Customizable 3-tier cakes were worth every penny. Everyone enjoyed taking pictures of the cake and eating it. =P 5-Star experience with Cake Works! read more

I ordered a 2D/3D cake from Cake Works for my friend 's 45th birthday last week, I wanted the cake to look like a Blue Label bottle of liquor. Everything was done over the phone and email since I'm in California, They deliver the cake to stars of Honolulu which I was late but the lady said no worries she will wait for me. Saw the cake and I was very happy with it, it's what I wanted and more, birthday boy and guests loved it even the people on the cruise, the taste was so good too. Not only was the person who answered the phone unhelpful, but it was also clear they couldn't have cared less about my design idea. Then, they quoted me approximately $480 for an 8-10 person cake. What an absolute joke. Please don't support companies like this--there are better and more fairly priced bakers nearby. read more

First I want to say that the process of ordering a custom cake was extremely clear and simple. I filled out the inquiry form on their website which included details about my "event" and how many guests would be there. I just wanted a small birthday cake so it was easy to fill out. I also included a picture of the cake I wanted. It sent me an email to know that the inquiry was received and a couple of days later I got a quote. The cake was a bit pricey but I understood because there were a lot of specific details that I wanted. They also sent out a list of their cake flavors, I chose their chocolate raspberry decadence. I really liked that you get a special website for your project. It's easy to communicate in the thread instead of sending emails back and forth. After I approved the quote, I got a proposal. I signed it and paid for the cake in advance. A couple of weeks later, it was time to pick up the cake. I was so happy with how it turned out! It looked exactly like how I wanted it to. I don't have any complaints about how the cake looked. However, when it was time to eat the cake, I wasn't too happy. The inside of the cake was very dense and dry. The chocolate buttercream had a consistency similar to fudge. It felt very thick and a bit difficult to eat. The outside frosting was overly sweet, it reminded me of frosting you would get from a grocery store cake. Overall, I am very happy with the look of the cake and how easy it was to order/pick up. However, with the price that I paid ($75), I am a bit disappointed that I couldn't finish more than one slice. I'm really sad to make this review because of how adorable the cake turned out. I really wanted to enjoy all of it. read more

I've driven by this place so many times and I never stopped by. Well I'm glad that I stopped by the other day. Cake Works is one of those businesses in Five Star and they offer many rewards. It was because of the rewards that week that made me curious about this place. On my app, it said that I could come in for four free cupcakes!! I thought that was such a great find. I get there and it's a small little bakery right across the street from the Humane Society. Parking is a little tricky but I think of you are coming from the West side, just take the King street exit, make a u turn up the hill, and it will put you right there. It looks like they only have a few parking spots so that might be hard if all of them are taken. The lady at the counter was very nice. I figure that I would get something else in addition to the free cupcakes. I was gonna get the macarons but each one was like $3. But she said that they had a better option if I didn't care about what flavors I got. They have a "broken" pieces macaron box that they sell. It's all the macarons that didn't come out perfectly. Like there's a chip in it or it's like scraped on the side. It was $5 for 6 macarons. I got that. I didn't care if it was broken. It all goes to the same place and it gave me a chance to try other flavors. I also got to choose my four free cupcakes. It wasn't those mini cupcakes. I actually got to choose regular sized cupcakes. Because it was the end of the day, there weren't that many left. The ones I chose were chocolate caramel, lemon, strawberry guava, and chocolate. I tried the lemon and chocolate caramel and they were both delicious. I think I like the chocolate caramel one the best. I ate that at night and that was a mistake. I'm sensitive to chocolate so I couldn't sleep that night. But it's okay, because it was all worth it. The macarons were good as well. They were a little crispy on the outside which was nice and different. Good fillings and I'm glad that I got to sample many types. So if you haven't stopped by Cake Works, give them a try. And be sure to check out the Five Star app so you can get more deals. read more

Bought 3 cupcakes. All dry. Very little flavor. My kids agreed. We all tried the 3 kinds. The choc peanut butter was a super dry choc cake w/ barely any peanut butter flavor in the frosting. The strawberry guava cupcake was dry. Had some fake strawberry flavor and a tiny tiny spot of guava flavor in the middle. The banana cream cheese cupcake was a little less dry but tasted like brown sugar w/ a sugar flavored frosting. Sad. Was looking forward to it! Not going there again read more

I would not recommend. Wouldn't have written a review as I've only used them once, but they sent an email asking me to. 1.No attention to detail I asked for a cake with a world map on it, and sent them the photo of what I wanted. It was not what I asked for. What I wanted was a map that had light water colors mixed together, what I got was ribbons of dark blue and green. It's the details that make something lovely or meh. For $130 dollars, you think they'd pay attention to detail. 2. It didn't taste good When something is made of purely sugar it's hard to go wrong. so they sid not make my wedding cake sue to a "no print out of order"‍ and for the compensation, Cale Works gave me a complete refund and a free 8" cake! I am still hurt from not having a wedding cake for my big day and the embarrassment i felt that day with my family and friend asking me wheres your cake!?! but i guess i am ok! so i had ordered the free 8" cake but couldn't get a specially made one, just one from there featured cakes online! it was for a baby shower! so i had asked for them to make it in the colors of the shower theme! all in all, it was nice but not a show case item foe the table and it did not stand out! it tasted real good, guave cake! i also added flowers at the top to try and make it not so plan! read more

I got my Mardi Gras king cake from here. It's the only place that I know of on the whole island where I can get one. That being said the cake is actually very good. It's not quite authentic, but it's very good but the best part is that the owner Asked me for tips and hints to make it better. That goes along way! I will forever be buying my king cakes from here, and watching them progress. The king cakes have one flavor, cinnamon. I suggested that they add different flavors and hopefully they will. I will give them the five stars because they are the only people that cared enough to make king cakes in Hawaii! read more

Tried twice..failed twice. Ruined two separate birthday celebrations. First one was dry, they claimed thats the cake style. 2nd cake was just as dry with an immense amount of frosting.. not enough to justify $60 price tag. It seems as though they may use precooked cake and just pull them out of freezer. Unfortunately, Safeway or any cake mix beat their chocolate cake choices. Manager was nice but if some brings back a cake and tries to work with the small business, you would think the second attempt would get some effort. We even had a pleasant conversation and we both tasted the returned cake and sampled a cupcake version of 2nd cake option. Both my wife and i thought the cupcake was what should have been outcome. I guess cakes are their kryptonite. Things have gone downhill from a couple years ago. I hope they can improve but we will take our business elsewhere. read more

MUST READ!!! I've always seen this place on my way to school in college but never found myself stopping here. I received a notification from Five Stars that Cake Works would gift me 6 pieces of macaroons for my birthday so I decided to stop by. I'm so glad that I did!!! I was honestly a bit confused how to get in for a moment. I didn't know where the door was and rang the doorbell, hehe. Once I got inside, I saw it was a very sweet little place. The lady that helped me was sooo sweet, cause I obviously didn't know what I was doing. I asked her if it would be okay to redeem my free macaroons and she helped me choose 6 different flavors. Aren't they gorgeous? We chatted for a few minutes and the hospitality that was present makes it worth coming back. But these macaroons though. Light, delicate, not too sweet. Really awesome cakes! Lots of flavors to choose from - even carrot cake! I like that they give you the option of ordering a personalized cake or ordering one of their "pre-designed" cakes. They have a website where you can request to order a cake online, so that really makes it convenient for us. Super tasty too! We've loved all the cakes we've ever gotten from here so far :) and it's not too far from our home either! Pickup is always timely. read more

A few months back I needed a cake for a friends birthday but wanted to support a local bakery as well! I didn't have too much notice so a few bakeries weren't able to accommodate me but when I called up here the man on the phone was super helpful letting me know they would be able to help me and I went into the shop shortly after. He helped me look through the cake book to help visual and helped me pick my size. I picked it up the next day and I was so happy with the outcome! It was beautiful (and delicious). The price was maybe more than others would spend- but it was what I expected for a cake from a smaller bakery (not Costco) of that size and style. Would definitely recommend. read more

We used Cake Works for our wedding favors. I love guava and lilikoi (passion fruit) flavors in general, and their macaron guava and lilikoi flavors were great! The colors of these macarons also happened to match our wedding theme. I asked Cake Works to package them in sets of 2. I bought the clear desert boxes from Amazon and dropped them off at Cake Works. Cake Works also tied a small ribbon of my color choice around the boxes, which made them even more perfect for wedding favors. Cake Works delivered the macarons to my venue on time, looking perfect, and tasting super fresh! I would definitely use them again for any other special events or even if I'm just craving some macarons. You can also buy a sampler box of "imperfect" macarons if you're into the taste more than the looks. read more

First of all, let me preface this by saying I don't usually complain about products. Also, from my past dealings, Cake Works has always produced delicious creations. That being said, I feel I must say something about the cake I purchased recently for my wife's birthday. It was not what I ordered and there are elements about it that, dare I say, are not worthy of the Cake Works name. First off, the cake itself was very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Well done! It was not until we cut, or should I say ATTEMPTED to cut, into the cake that I began to be disappointed. It was very very dense. It was much more like a devil's food cake consistency. When I placed my order, I specifically told them I didn't want a dense cake. It didn't have to be like an Angel's food cake, but still, just a nice dobash-like cake. This cake was SOLID. We had a hard time cutting into it. After we finally managed to cut some pieces to serve, we still decided to eat it since we still expected it to at least taste good. The ganache was excellent. Rich with dark chocolate. The chocolate mousse was also good, although the layers were way too thin in my opinion. It was barely there. The kicker though was the actual cake. It was bone dry and crumbly. The bottom layer was the worst, begging for some kind of moisture so it wouldn't suck the saliva right out of mouth. This was NOT the chocolate mousse cake of Cake Works past which was one of the best cakes I have ever had. This one was it's sad cousin, trying to look the part but not even a reasonable facsimile. Taste-wise it was just okay. Good...not great like in the past. I tried calling so that I could say something rather than writing something so public but with no one answering the phones, I feel I have no other choice than to air my grievances here. Cake Works has long been my go-to bakery for fine baked goods. I don't mind spending the extra money these cakes demand because, from my experience, the quality of the product was worth it. Sadly, this is not the case for my most recent purchase and was not worthy of the $100 price I paid. I know Cake Works can do better. I have experienced it personally. I just hope this shines a light and they give the customer what they ask for moving forward. I still have faith in them. Mahalo for listening. EDIT: And nope, never asked for a chocolate dobash cake. I can get a good one elsewhere. Also, saying that I "insisted" is not entirely accurate. I INQUIRED about a cake you folks made in the past. That's all. Big difference in the wording and the nuance of the intent. Let me also add that after eating the cake, I could tell that quality ingredients were used. It definitely did not taste "cheap and generic" so thank you for that. Well done there. If only it were not so dry and crumbly it would've been fine... read more

Malasadas are these Portuguese fried dough pastries rolled in sugar. We tried the original, cinnamon sugar, custard, and guava. Each one was delicious and best shared with family over a cup of coffee.

I personally think the bad reviews are coming from competition because there is no way anyone could complain about Abi's work. I just posted a photo of a cake she did for my moms birthday. I asked them to make a cake that looks like a Neiman Marcus shopping bag because my mom loves Neiman Marcus. She researched and go the design for their bag and duplicated it so perfectly into a cake that I couldn't believe it. I still can't convince my grandmother who I sent the photo to, that it is a cake. She thinks I am joking, It is so amazing, we still haven't cut it. It is a work of art and no one wants to mess it up. We plan to eat it finally tomorrow, but if I could keep it preserved forever I would! Also, when we were trying to decide flavor she asked really important questions like where my mom was from. That is a really good question because my mom is from Europe so she knew that a Chocolate decadence cake would be perfect for her. Abi is a genious, trust me. ****DO NOT GO HERE**** This bakery is far from professional as they are easily able to identify a mistake in their cake that I purchased and upon trying to return it they refused a full refund. I brought the cake back to them because the cake had hard crunchy pieces in it ( I am guessing from baking pans that they were suppose to cut off) the butter cream icing tasted very storage (sort of like dirty water) and it just happened to be they used that exact butter cream through out the cake inside and out. (This is the mistake they admitted to, they were suppose to use French butter cream.) Also on top of all of that the marble cake was so dry. Nothing about this cake was right. None the less the cake didn't taste anything like a $120 dollar cake is suppose to taste and you are better off getting a cake from Safe Way. After trying to negotiate for my full refund I settled with 50% refund and just left, I will never return to this place for anything. Dishonest business owner. I ordered a cake for my daughters 4th birthday two and a half weeks in advance. I have indicated exactly what and how my daughter wants it. We even brought print out from the net as reference. I was charged 135$ which I paid with a big smile as I wanted my daughter Leilani to have exactly what she wanted. What we got was so far from what agreed upon that I was embarrassed to even show it to her. The cake was a mediocre, disrespectful joke. Looks like a 27$ Sam's Club cake . Maybe because I'm not white and have some tattoos she thought she can get away with this unprofessional joke cake but not here. Thanks god I have Yelp. I was so happy with my entire experience with Cake Works. I found them on google and emailed them with some simple questions regarding dates and availability and when they answered with the information I was after, i sent them photos of what i was after for my birthday cake. The communication with them was easy and fast. I picked up my cake on the day. as agreed and it was exactly the same as the pictures I sent them, i was thrilled. When we cut into it, the icing was beautifully thick and the layers inside looked perfect. The chocolate Devils cake andthe oreo frosting inbetween layers was to die for. I just wanna say that the Red Velvet is absolutely amazing. The desserts are beautiful, and it seems like everybody working there is happy to be there. The lilikoi cupcakes are soooo delicious. Everything is baked FRESH. There's a guy that's constantly baking back there! I don't understand why there were some previous reviews that have 1 star. Fondant is made of sugar, and in a humid place like HAWAII, sugar tends to collect water and become sticky and soft. Don't knock Cake Works for that issue, knock the humidity! First time in Cake Works; have always heard great things about their service but our experience today "topped the cake!" Cynthia was very sweet and professional when we picked up our cake tasting box for our upcoming wedding. She even took the time to make us some fresh espresso as we browsed and tried to refrain from buying everything in the store. HAHA whoever said they would just go to Hokulani that is funny because she teach those guys everything they know. this place is grinz!! My company got a cupcake thing (layers with lots of cupcakes don't know what it was called) My and some of the boys smoked out and came back and ate like 5 each of all kinds. Cake Works was wonderful to work with all the way from the Southeastern US. Between a few phone calls and e-mails everything was easily arranged. The groom's cake could not have been better-3 tiers and sports themed. Each layer and icing was a different flavor and decorated in team colors and logos. They offered a variety of cake and icing flavors and combinations. The best part was the cake tasted every bit as good as it looked. All the guests were as impressed as we were. I would give this place 0 stars, but it may not go through. went today after reading reviews for mary catherine's velvet cupcakes and lemon bars. it is now cake works---and they were out of cupcakes, so i just bought the lemon bar, --I took 1 bite and it was so sweet that I grew hairs on my eyeballs. I smiled at the tall haole man there, (I don't know if he was the owner)---and he gave me the HATE look. Alright im not gonna lie i have a sweet tooth! I love cupcakes haha this place def. delivers when it comes to good cupcakes. Never had anything else from here but i would think everything else can measure up to it as well haha. The icing was def. creamy and well they coulda added a little more haha nothing wrong with a cream covered cupcake haha I guess thats a little much but its ok in my opinion haha. We ordered a custom wedding cake for our daughter's wedding. It was an unusual design to cater to the guests most of whom are doctors and nurses in the cardiac ICU. Cake Works delivered the cake to the reception location on the North Shore, and it was incredible! The representative explained that cakes are prepared on the day requested to provide the freshest cake possible. The cake was a multi-layered carrot cake that was absolutly delicious. Everyone loved the cake and it's still being eaten (as opposed to being thrown out). I've visited twice and am already a fan of the daifuku (especially the peanut butter one) and cupcakes. I also love the story behind the business. The owner is a mom who taught herself to bake from YouTube videos. Friends and family started asking her to bake for them, and eventually it became a business. I love businesses that start so organically. You can tell she cares about the quality of what comes out of her shop. Go treat yourself! (Be sure to come early if you want daifuku.)

I liked how the online intake form was thorough and had an option to upload inspo pics plus her website was transparent about pricing. We only wanted a cake for us two for the cake cutting part of the reception so we chose the smaller heart-shaped cake with vintage piping. We love frogs and Angel frosted the most delightful frog couple for the cake. Our coconut cake with vanilla frosting looked so charming and suited our love so well. I liked that she offered delivery so that was one less thing to stress about for the day-of our wedding, knowing it would be taken care of. In the end, we were pleased with our frog-tastic "Hoppily Ever After" wedding cake. Angel's impeccable attention to detail with the frosting work is something to behold. I recommend heating them up for 20-30 seconds in the microwave. It's so hard to find a good bakery that caters to gluten free and dairy free customers. I highly recommend this bakery. The young lady behind the counter was so nice, the baked goods were delicious and I can't believe it was all gluten free and dairy free! Take note that they are not open every day. I went on a Friday and they close at 2 PM and I got there at 1:30. But I can't say enough about the good service and the quality of the baked goods. I will be back!

And while the tastes and textures were not to my liking, the fact that they are gluten free is a huge plus. I have enjoyed their made to order cakes before. I was initially going to get 4 cupcakes: 1 lemon, 2 strawberry, and 1 red velvet. However, after looking at her menu online and talking to her, I ended up getting a dozen cupcakes: 4 banana peanut butter cupcakes with honey drizzle, 3 Chocolate cupcake with Oreo frosting topped with an Oreo cookie, 1 chocolate cupcake with a peanut butter frosting, 2 Strawberry cupcake with buttercream frosting and strawberry drizzle, 1 red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting, and 1 white cupcake with lemon buttercream and lemon sauce drizzle. The cupcakes were super moist and they paired well with the frostings. The frostings were not overly sweet, which I really appreciated, and I could definitely taste the flavoring of the frosting.
