We reached out for a tasting in October of 2019 for a wedding of 170 in January 2020 and they accommodated us easily and weren't pushy about the sale. I willingly make a long trip to Cake Works specifically for their salted caramel macarons. It is absolutely delicious! It's a little pricey though, so it's definitely not something I'd purchase often. I think I paid around $30/doz. The woman assisting me was very personable and attentive. I took a star off because they don't accept cash. Payment needs to be made using a credit or debit card. If I hadn't made a special trip from K-Town to downtown, I would've left Cake Works without the macarons. I took another star off due to their "tip" portion on their iPad where I need to approve and complete my transaction. Although the girl who assisted me informed me that I could press the "no tip" option if I did not want to leave one, I admit to feeling "pressured" to leave a tip. I honestly think that choosing this bakery was the best decision I ever made!! I was in full search for a bakery that could do a birthday cake for my daughter. Why? Well, we wanted something different and special. She is a HUGE One Piece fan and we wanted to get her a One Piece themed cake. Specifically with her favorite characters from that manga. You'd think that it would be easy to find a bakery to take that on ... not so much. It was actually a lot harder to find a place. I was turned down by A LOT of bakeries because of the amount of work it would entail. Mind you, I was looking around 4 months prior to her actual birthday .. just so it wouldn't be rushed. Fast forward to Cake Works. I filled out the online form and sent in reference pictures. They got back to me a couple hours later with a quote and a list of flavors they have for cake and frosting. With the quote being so reasonable, we put half down and paid the other half a month before her birthday. I received a call from the decorator there, and she wanted to go over the designs. Let me tell you how comforting, reassuring and elated I was to find out that she was also a big One Piece fan!!! The other bakeries had no idea what One Piece was. So it was seriously reassuring to know that another fan was handling it. I told her my daughters favorite character, which is Portgas D Ace :D She said not to worry and she had me covered. We went to go pick up her cake .. and hello!! Holy hell it was huge!!! (What we wanted and expected) .. what I honestly didn't expect was the designs. I was absolutely floored!! They were so awesome!! I knew my daughter was going to love it! It seriously looked like she put all her time into it, everything was so detailed!! When we got it home, and 'unveiled it' to my daughter ... I have never heard a louder scream than the one she did that day. We literally had to wait 20 minutes to put any candles on it because she had to take countless pictures from every angle =/ We were then graced with the task of placing the candles where it wouldn't cause the most 'harm' to any of the designs =\ And as soon as we lit them and sang 'Happy Birthday' so took all of the candles off so no wax would drip on the cake. Hahaha!! And then we had to wait hours for her to cut her cake because she didn't want to ruin the whole thing. The cake .... was seriously awesome!! She wanted a chocolate cake and that's what she got! It was very rich in flavor, a little too rich for me the old person ... but the kids loved it! No complaints from them at all!! I ordered a cake for a very good friend's birthday--she lives in Hawaii and I in Maryland. The cake was ordered a couple of days before her birthday, and I asked that it be delivered to her house, which it was. Although my friend says the cake was good, I have heartburn over the delivery charge of $40.00 which seem quite excessive since she does not live that far from the bakery. If I lived in Hawaii, I would have gone to a bakery, ordered a cake, and delivered it myself. That's the problem of doing business long-distance. Mardi Gras cakes aka King Cake is soooo good. I ate almost the entire cake solo. Moist and creamy. Pricier that Wholefoods but made to order and fresh. They also have a wide variety of macaroons (the french style). An assortment of cupcakes are also available. There are not a whole lot of pastries to choose from as customers usually pre-order cakes here. Parking is available and can be a challenge as it's alongside the road that connects to the freeway.
