We are so sad to write this review because we really like Gabby when we first visited her for a cake tasting. However, I am so disappointed with the lack of communication on details and her own decision making approach for our once in a lifetime wedding cake. Two stars because Gabby is sweet and the cake flavors were delicious, and she offered a partial refund. We took away three stars because she made her own "judgement call" on how our cake should look like without asking us any questions or communicating any details to us. I could not give Cake Coquette five stars after I almost DIED when I saw our wedding cake for the first time at our traditional Military and Fairytale wedding. I am all about details. Details are especially important to a bride who is extremely meticulous and CLEAR with her expectations. My close friends immediately knew how I would feel after they saw the styrofoam cake topper and told me to look away - yes, they knew how upset I'd be because there was barely any work done to the cake topper that was supposed to be custom made. The styrofoam castle that WE purchased and provided to Gabby was difficult to look at on our wedding because it was worse than looking at a castle cake topper for a fairytale princess birthday party for a one year old -- this was our first and only WEDDING! I could've decorated it better; in hindsight, I wish the company we order the cake topper from shipped the castle topper to us directly so we could've decorated it and then provided it to Gabby because she obviously thought leaving it styrofoam for a black tie wedding was fine. We had no idea our cake would have a styrofoam castle on top that wouldn't be decorated - why was this NEVER communicated to us until AFTER our black tie wedding? We emailed Gabby the day after our wedding asking why a picture was never sent or even a single description via email of what our cake would look like (whatever happened to communication?!). Why was the castle topper NOT decorated and left as STYROFOAM? Yes, can you believe it?! A STYROFOAM (literally) castle on top of an elegant wedding cake at a Black Tie wedding with military officers and the most important people in our lives gathered together?????? Ugh, we were so upset! Gabby's response was: "...we did make a judgment call on the walls of the castle based on budget, as they would have had to be completely recovered in a fondant redesign of the topper in order to change the texture, a several hour process in itself. We did use a shiny white dust on the walls, which had the same look as the styrofoam itself." "Judgement call" on OUR wedding cake?! We will pay you ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to have made our castle cake topper look ANYTHING OTHER THAN STYROFOAM. This castle cake topper "budget" and details were never discussed with us. We only discussed the cake layers and delicious flavors. My heart breaks that we put so much effort in researching a castle cake, purchasing a $70 castle plan white styrofoam castle topper, purchasing a $300 gold cake stand, and putting time into meeting with Gabby for a cake that looked like it had a styrofoam cake topper straight from the craft store. We asked why didn't she send a picture before our wedding, and her response was: "As a general policy, we never send pictures out before delivery of a cake." I was livid. I stepped away from writing any reviews from my wedding day for five years - just to let that emotional side of me to pass by. I am still really upset after five years with this experience. We paid so much for a wedding cake that we wouldn't ever have approved of if we knew that the cake topper would look like styrofoam. Our photographer got some good shots of us and the cake from far, far, far away so the styrofoam did not show up in the pictures. Unfortunately, our castle cake topper was "good from far, far from good." Five stars for the taste (delicious) and five stars for being a sweet person when we met you, but the lack of communication for details is what makes me give the fair rating of two stars overall. We really wish Gabby had gone through the details with us before moving forward with any detail that was made for our wedding cake. read more

Though it was a tough decision in the first place deciding which vendor to use for our wedding cake, what we really liked about Gabby was 1) the flavors, and 2) her creativity: with some sample photos & a description that we came with, she sketched her version of what she would make live while we waited.
