I reached out to Donna to provide me with a cake and cupcakes for my wedding. I had a specific look in my mind and she captured it perfectly!! I provided her with a photo for a cake style and she made sure to make it unique to my wants and colors with matching cupcakes. We went with three different flavors: vanilla, chocolate with mocha, and red velvet and they were all amazing! So many people came up to me during the reception to tell me how wonderful they tasted and asked who made them. I highly recommend working with her and I will definitely come back for any future cake needs!!
The cake that Donna made for our baby girls baby shower was amazing! It was so beautiful that no one wanted to cut and eat it. It was definitely the center piece of our baby shower. When we met Donna, she was very attentive to what we wanted in terms of cake design. We showed her a photo that we really liked but made adjustments to it so it can be in line with our baby shower theme. The end product was absolutely amazing. Along with the cake we also ordered 12 cupcakes. They were so beautiful and added so much more to surroundings of the cake. However, in a few hours the frosting on the cupcakes were beginning to melt. But overall we had an awesome experience with Donna and will be utilizing her for future parties. Also, we called her and told her that the cupcakes began to melt. So she told us, on our next order she will provide a dozen cupcakes free of charge!!! What great customer service! She is extraordinary at what she does and does not disappoint! Thanks Donna!

I feel so terrible that it took me almost 2 years to write this review. Donna made my wedding cake in May 2019, and not only was it exactly what I asked for, it was also delicious! My husband and I got married on May 4th.... neither of us are huge Star Wars fans (we do both like it, though). We just thought it was funny that we were getting married on Star Wars day, so we wanted a subtle reference to it without going overboard. Donna created a very simple and elegant cake for us, just like I requested, and topped it with Han & Leia.
I had a birthday coming up for my son and a big party to plan. I didn't want to bake a cake like I had done in previous years and I really wanted a show stopper cake I was new to the area and so I checked out Yelp to see what was available and the Cake Barn came up at the top. What really stood out where how many stars there were with so many reviews. There were 5 stars and over 100 reviews. I rarely see 5 stars for anything on Yelp so I looked no further. I called and spoke with the owner, Donna. She was pleasant and happy to make my son's cake. I had already seen one she did in her various reviews so it was like window shopping..."I want that one!" She asked for 50% down to save the date and we were off an running. I felt really relieved knowing his cake and cupcakes where going to be taken care of. The best part (besides eating the cake) was that she delivers it to you!!! When you're planning a party and you have a lot of other things to do....knowing the cake is set to arrive (almost like magic) is AWESOME. The cake was GORGEOUS. It made my son and I both really sad to cut into it. But when we did it was so wonderful and good. The cake was moist and the frosting was delicious. The cupcakes were fantastic!!! Everything went extremely fast and there was little left over. I will absolutely be ordering more cakes/cupcakes in the future :-) The only photo I have to show of the cake are the devoured leftovers
Not only Donna is an amazing artist/Baker, she's just the sweetest person and right from the start felt so comfortable with her. She just did a beautiful cake for my niece which I took all the way to OC, and my family and guests loved it. Everyone was saying how cute it was. Her cakes are moist and not overly sweet. Donna, thank you for this day so special for my niece. Highly recommend you and looking forward to doing more business with you in the future.
Loved working with Donna! She is the best! I am so happy how the cake turned out for my son's first birthday. It perfectly complemented my head table in so many ways. Her communication and follow-up is so great too. She's organized and very fast in her responses. As a type-A person I appreciated how easy it was to communicate with her. She delivered the cake exactly at 11 oclock :) You'll love her detailed instructions about how to cut the cake too! And oh man, it tasted so good. There wasn't a single guest who didn't rave about the cake! Seriously, if you need a cake for your special occasion, she's the vendor you want to work with.

Best Cake in SCV! We ordered a Chocolate cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream filling. The cake was flavorful and moist. The fondant was perfect and the filling was appropriately disseminated. Donna, the baker and owner, was extremely professional and pleasant. She's a perfectionist and genuinely was excited about our request. The Cake was a Work of Art!

I can not say enough about the amazing service, attention to detail, follow through, and of course, delicious cake that I received from Cake Barn. The original call was very helpful getting me started on a custom law graduation cake. To texting a few days before delivery to assure me of the design, size, flavors, and the number of people eating the cake. They were very attentive. "You get what you pay for". That's always been a truer than true saying. The Cake Barn is a perfect example of that. My interaction with Donna started here. Through Yelp. After seeing hundreds of beautiful cakes and estelar reviews, it was a no brainer. I contacted her and we started working ideas about my daughter's cake. Soon enough we figured out what we wanted and boy did she deliver! The cake is exactly what I wanted and it was a show stopper in person! Donna has magical hands. We chose chocolate cake with salted caramel filling and the cake was delicious. Although I will say, I wish I could taste the salted caramel a bit more. Overall I am extremely pleased with the cake and with Donna. She kept me in the loop throughout the entire process, she was courteous and helpful the entire way, and she absolutely killed it. Fellow Yelpers, thank you for your reviews! It brought me to this wonderful woman named Donna & her beautiful cakes! After some research browsing through SCV's finest cake places, I decided to have my son's first birthday cake be made here @ The Cake Barn. The prices here are fair and the craftsmanship is far superior than a few other places I've seen around town! For others seeking a cake, the process is very simple. Submit a request with as much detail as possible. Donna responds in lightening speed. I think I submitted a request late around 8 or 9pm and we began messaging back and forth in a matter of 10 minutes. That is a prompt vendor/business!! I ordered a beautiful 2 tier woodland themed cake. I couldn't be happier. Lots of wonderful loving comments by family and friends. I'll leave a picture. It speaks for itself. Donna is absolutely amazing! She understood exactly what my husband and I wanted for our wedding cake and executed 110%! Not only was the cake beautiful, but it tasted wonderful as well! Donna went above and beyond for us! Our Floarist forgot to deliver the flowers for our cake, so Donna selflessly went to the market and picked up flowers for us! I'm still in total shock how much she did for us. She even delivered on a special request I had, I wanted to surprise my husband with a dog silhouette put anywhere on the cake, and she did! I'd like to start with the positives. Firstly, the cake looked beautiful. The taste was also satisfactory--not the best tasting but definitely not the worst either. Unfortunately, there were a few negative aspects of our experience as well. The most major one was the fact that our cake was not what we had agreed on. I had ordered the two-tiered unicorn cake, but I only received the top tier. The bottom tier, which is made up of foam, was perfect for us because we needed a small cake but we liked the illusion of a bigger cake that portion portrayed. This is what I had discussed with Donna about, and she had informed me how happy other clients were with the two-tiered method. When I called Donna about this problem, she failed to create a common solution. In fact, she never apologized for the obvious mistake on her part. She stated that she takes "extensively detailed" notes and there's no way she could be wrong. She also stated that the bottom tier was an additional $75 (something that was never discussed with me). For a $187 cake, the customer service was awful as she lacked basic professionalism. Lastly, the cake was given to us in a Costco box! I don't think I'm asking for too much if I expect my cake to be in a regular pastry box. For these reasons, I give my experience a generous 3 stars. read more

This is my second time ordering a cake from Donna and she is amazing! My daughters 2nd Birthday cake was a huge hit! Donna is professional, attentive to your design wishes and the taste of the cakes are fantastic! We had a lot of compliments at the party about the cake. My sister and I had a combo birthday celebration for our sons who turned 1 and 2. We had decorations, a pinata, lots of food but the hit of the party were the cakes (we ordered two different ones). Not only were they beautiful - one was Mickey themed and the other was Elmo themed, our guests had so many delicious moist flavors to choose from. We ordered each cake with 2 different flavors (red velvet and Dulce de Leche and the other with hazelnut vanilla with nutella and French vanilla). The truth is Donna knows how to cater to her customers. She ensured we were happy with our customized cakes at every step of the way. Not only does she create eye catching cakes everyone will talk about at your party, she delivers the cakes on time and even makes it very easy to pay the balance with a credit card the day of the party while emailing the receipt. I would highly recommend the Cake Barn. She makes that very important item on your to do list stress-free. read more

Donna did such an amazing job on our son's 2nd birthday Sesame Street themed cake! Talk about details and quality workmanship! The cake looks like she put all her heart and soul into it, and she probably did. I can tell she is passionate about not only creating beautiful cakes, but also about making her clients happy and very satisfied. She goes above and beyond, and we are so extremely happy! But it doesn't stop there. Her cakes are also super delicious! I personally tasted the almond cake with dulce de leche and OMG...amazing! One tier was chocolate cake with salted caramel but that was gone so quickly that I wasn't able to taste it but our guests raved! This review is waaay overdue! This is actually my second time ordering from Donna, and she never disappoints! The cakes are stunning, not to mention delicious! I've had cakes that come out "ok" even after giving them a picture of what I want, by with Donna, she impresses not only me but most importantly, my guests! The cakes are gorgeous and I always get compliments! They are definitely the STAR of my buffet tables! Donna is also so easily to talk to! Her work ethics are impressive and she's very accommodating! This time, I ordered a couple weeks before the event. I was worried there wasn't enough time, but she didn't just say "yes, I'll do it", but she threw in some of her ideas to make the cakes even better, AND she delivers more than what I've expected! It was amazing working with Donna to create the cake I wanted for the baby shower. I sent Donna a picture of my request and she was able to replicate the cake and modify it to how I wanted it. Not only are her cakes beautiful, but they are also delicious. She doesn't sacrifice taste for aesthetics. She created two layers for the cake, strawberry with Swiss meringue and chocolate with hazelnut filling. Both layers were moist and flavorful. Donna made the most incredible cake for my nephews 1st birthday. She was able to capture the theme perfectly and added unexpected detail. Not only did it look amazing but it also is (hands down) the best tasting cake I have ever had. Guests were "oohing and aahing" over it. Not to mention, Donna is awesome to work with - she is prompt to respond and determined to meet her customers needs. If you need a cake, for any event, you should definitely go with The Cake Barn! I contacted Donna to see if she could re-create a Disney style Cars themed cake I had found on pinterest. I sent her over a picture of the cake along with some details, and she replied back very promptly. It was easy communicating with her via email in regards to the details of the cake. I also asked if it would be possible to have her give us samples of her cake since we had never ordered from her before. She was super kind and allowed us to meet at her house to pick up samples. The samples were awesome and made us lock in the cake order. She emailed me a picture of the cake the day before delivery to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. I really appreciate this, and I had no changes to be made as the cake was just what I wanted for my son's birthday. She delivered the cake at our scheduled delivery time. When we decided to have a Thomas the Train birthday for my son, I immediately started thinking about the cake. I am so happy that we found The Cake Barn. Donna responded to my email right away and I told her what we had in mind. She was so sweet and very helpful. The end result exceeded any expectations we had. OMG, I can't recommend The Cake Barn enough. I always wanted a daughter and being her first birthday. I wanted to give her the most beautiful first birthday cake. All my guest couldn't stop talking about it and we were all impressed with how stunning the cake looked. When it came time to serve the cake it was very easy to cut and to deal with. But most of all the cake was even better tasting than the way it looked. Everything was so delicious, the buttercream was creamy, the inside was moist and the filling was flavorful. They were very easy to deal with and responded quickly. I will be recommending this place to everyone I know and will be ordering again for the next time I need a cake.
