Gnocchi al pesto
Harrison W.

Sure, it's close to the colosseo and some of the menu items are definitely geared towards trying to incentivize tourists, but the food tasted incredible and was very authentic. Even though it was breakfast time, everyone in my group ordered gnocchi or pasta, and wow the gnocchi (which is what I ordered) was just amazing and the flavors were so rich. ...I highly recommend getting the gnocchi al pesto. The tiramisu was yummy, although was more in cake form rather than having lady fingers so just know that. Especially given its proximity to the colosseo, it was a wonderful meal.

Meatballs and curry

Interesting little spot not far away from the Colosseum and definitely worth the venture into the little streets. It almost feels a little hipster-esque because of how quirky the place was - from decor to menu selection. I'm glad this place offers different food options than the repetitive pizza and pasta choices. I had the Veal Meatballs and Curry, served with mixed greens and rice. The meal was really wholesome and balanced, just what I needed after eating non-stop protein and carbs on my vacation here. I also ordered one of their infused black teas with strawberry and strawberry leaves. It was perfect for the cold and chilly weather and really warmed me up. Service is friendly and attentive. Plus, free Wi-Fi! Great for any tourist/traveler.

We came here for dinner on our first night in Rome. It was nearby and easy to get to from the hotel as well as highly rated. When we entered it, there were a few people. I noticed the warm feeling with interesting artistic pieces and furniture selection as well as color. I ordered the lasagna and my wife ordered the lamb meatballs and rice. The food came out quickly and you could tell it was homemade. Everything was done to perfection and made me forget my previous experience in Florence at our 2nd night. We even enjoyed going to the bathroom to admire the plumbing art when flushing the toilet as well as washing our hands. It may take some figuring out but well worth it:)

Cannalloni & Lasagne

This place was right next to the Coliseum. The food and the service were good. If you are in the area, I recommend stopping by. The interior was more spacious than the modest exterior would have us believe. We walked inside and we were seated immediately. The menu was somewhat small on food. But there was a large selection of teas. And there were also beer and wine selections, which are very reasonably priced. We ordered the lasagne, the cannalloni and the chocolate gelato. The lasagna and the cannalloni were pre-made, but the were good - certainly better than most places in the US. The gelato was meh... I wouldn't recommend getting it - it was little icy in spots :( All in all, the meal was good and the price was right, making this place a worthwhile stop if you are near the Coliseum.

Homemade lasagne...delicious!

This is a hidden little gem close to the Colosseum. Avoid the tourist traps nearby and have a delicious meal here. We had the homemade lasagne and it did not disappoint. It was very delicious. It came with a side salad that rounded out the meal. We also had cappuccino and dessert. The service was attentive and friendly. This restaurant has a very relaxed vibe to it, which made it a great place to have a meal and sip a cappuccino, while deciding where to go next for sightseeing.

Veal meatballs in curry sauce

Cafe Cafe is a nice little place close to the Colosseum. After exploring the sites, my boyfriend and I were starving. We decided to stop by Cafe Cafe to grab a quick bite. When we sat down, we noticed how many varieties of gourmet teas there were on the menu, so we decided to give one a try. We ended up ordering the earl gray tea infused with strawberry leaves. We thought it was 3-4 euro a cup, but it turns out they give you a whole pot! I really enjoyed the tea, the strawberry flavor was strong but didn't overpower the earl gray tea. For food, both my bf and I ordered the veal meatballs. I got it with the curry sauce and he got the other sauce (can't remember what it was called). I thought the food was delicious - the meatballs came with rice and some salad. It was so delicious, I licked the plate clean. There was nothing left after I was done with it! Service is pretty good as well. I recommend coming here for the veal meatballs and the gourmet tea. Service and free wifi are also a plus!

This seems to be one of the best options near the colosseum. Any place that doesn't have promoters outside is a better bet in my opinion. After a lot of walking, this was a great place to stop into and have lunch. The lasagna was tasty and the air conditioning was refreshing.

My family and I, stumble upon this place from a yelp review that my cousin read up on. Pretty much would be a place I personally would overlook being that there are other restaurant around that have a better location to see the colosseum. But I'm glad me and my family didn't the food was excellent, the lasagna I order was probably the best I have ever had; so fresh and tasteful. The bruschetta was a great appetizer to start off. Overall I would definitely recommend this place with the reasonable price and the customer service. But if they had a bigger serving I would definitely pay the extra.

Great meatball in a lemon cream sauce. €9.50. Quite tasty.

A small entrance, this little cafe is easy to miss. It's a very casual spot with wifi just of Piazza del Colosseum. There's free Wi-Fi, so if you're traveling and a break with food to figure out where to go next, it's a good spot. The waiter I had is really friendly. Most of the menu is under €10. A glass of wine is €3, half bottle for €8 and full bottle for €14, so it's very affordable. I ordered the server's favorite, which is a break meatball with rice salad in lemon sauce. It's light with a little bit of a cream sauce. Quite tasty. I think I would've preferred meatballs that had more a ground meat texture instead of one's that kind had this solid texture (like your get at an Ikea or something). Tables are seated got 2 or 4, and seats probably about 20-24 people in the restaurant in total. I'd come back for a glass of wine if I wanted a break and were in the area.

The edamame we had was soft and boiled/spiced to perfection. Originally we were just going to get a roll and a bowl but after trying the food we immediately got another roll. The staff was a whole new level of mind blowing. To start the waiter made us feel exactly where we belonged (even though we were a little underdressed for a classier restaurant). You could've just sat there and watched the bar tender all night, she looked like she was a professional I wouldn't want anyone else making me drinks. The atmosphere of the whole bar embodied a classic American jazz bar, even the other people and tables we were by were friendly and really added to the whole experience. Was very well worth the price and couldn't recommend any other restaurant.

A jazz club for American tourists…read more Okay, there was one Australian lady and a few Chinese. Everyone else was American. Prices are sky-high because this is a soak the tourist situation. Alexanderplatz which is the premiere jazz club in Rome charges $18 euros for a month membership - no cover after that - and $12 per drink. So once you have paid your monthly cover charge, you can hear all the jazz you want for free - or if need be for $12 euros a drink At Alexanderplatz, the performances are legendary with some of the most innovative and technically amazing musicians in Rome. We dropped over $150 euros at Gregory's. We got a perfectly reasonable yeoman guitarist. But nothing like the artistic lions that routinely perform over at Alexanderplatz. Now to be fair, we had dinner at Gregory's and we never eat at Alexanderplatz. The standard "sushi dinner" was perfectly reasonable yeoman sushi. There was so little of it that we both had to order a la carte dishes afterwards. The extra extras seriously expanded the final tab. * * * One argument in Gregory's favor: their bar is extraordinary. The bar at Alexanderplatz is mediocre. Gregory's charges top dollar for its bar offerings, but what they mix and what is in their bottles is worth every single euro they ask for. I would be perfectly happy to just go to the bar, and order a few premium beverages. I would hear my wallet cry. But I would know that I was drinking supremely well in return for my investment. Fortunately, the bar is downstairs from the club. I would not have to put up with the shenanigans in the club. * * * The problem with the club is the crowd. At most, one third of the customers are actually there to listen to jazz. The room is filled with tourists taking selfies. There are also hot-daters playing snuggle-buns. Many of them will leave mid-set so they can go back to the hotel. Gregory's is less about the music and more about selling happy memories of Rome. * * * Alexanderplatz gets a mostly Italian crowd. You are looking as musicians, music critics, academics, and all purpose artsy types - as well as normal Italian human beings who just want to hear fine music. The music is taken very very seriously. Yeah, there are usually two or three tables with good time Charlies who are doing the phone recording, party hearty thing. But this is 8% of the audience at Alexanderplatz as opposed to 70% of the audience at Gregory's. To be fair to the crowd at Gregory's, the music at Alexanderplatz is simply better. The jazz at Alexanderplatz is capable of transfixing even philistines with tin ears. Gregory's jazz doesn't put that much on the table. But the crowd at Alexanderplatz sets me up for listening to mystic, complex music with the highest level of attention and aesthetic receptiveness. The crowd at Gregory's just gets me irritated. * * * If you are in Rome with a hot date, go to Gregory's. Be prepared to shell out the bucks. * * * If you are in Rome with someone who can truly appreciate once-in-a-lifetime musical experiences, take them to Alexanderplatz. After you talk about the music for half an hour after the concert, You can still go back to the hotel. Just figure that the hotel will be the second best part of the night.

I ordered a split of Bolero even though it's hot, I wanted it with my gnocchi with black truffles. The gnocchi and the wine were both delicious. I also had ordered a salad to start. When they brought out my salad, it was huge and I remarked about how big it was and he said oh would you like a smaller one and I said, yes please. I hadn't even touched the bowl. A few minutes later, he brought a much smaller much better sized bowl filled with crunchy radicchio, carrots, arugula, and other nice veggies. I was grateful because I couldn't even finish that one. There's no way I could've done the large one. The service was excellent. They were very kind and courteous, and went out of their way to be helpful more than once . As I was leaving it was pouring rain. My waiter didn't want me to go out into the rain without an umbrella and I said I was fine and I laughed that I wasn't made of sugar, most could attest to that. He smiled and said just a minute and he went back somewhere towards the kitchen and dug around and came back out with an umbrella. Talk about customer service so I had a lovely lovely walk back home in the rain it's been very hot here so it felt delightful. I returned the umbrella yesterday evening. I will happily go back there again before I leave.
