I really wanted to try the culture/art of aperitivo in Italy as noted in IG. I was looking for a popular spot near our stay and found this little gem! Honestly, this was probably the best aperitivo restaurant we've been to during our stay in Rome! For only €10, we had our one drink each, three selections of nuts with one being candied (that was delicious), and a huge platter of various finger foods including a small plate of pasta (peep at pic). WHAT. A. STEAL. The fact that our table held the drinks and plates really shows how much we received. The drinks were huge! It was strong enough to make both me and mom flush with our Asian glow. A good buzz for us both. We both got their Aperol Spritz, and my boyfriend got their Limoncello. The eats were delicious! There were 6 different bites and a delicious plate of red sauce gnocchi. We all had the same finger foods and pasta on our table, but I did notice that other tables received different options. What a fun experience! Absolutely love the culture/art of aperitivo in Italy! The fact that their happy hour means a drink and some finger foods before dinner was such a fun experience! It definitely saves money as some people like us don't need to eat dinner afterwards! For an amazing breakfast snack or gelato, Caffè Portofino is the jam. I recommend coming in the morning for a nice espresso along with one of their uber delicious pastries. Another great recommendation by our host in Rome. It is conveniently located right off Via Cola di Rienzo. The interior has such a nice old world feel. The outside patio is nice. It's covered but is still airy. We had breakfast there many times during our trip to Rome. We would order a Colazione Italiana; coffee, pastry, and juice. Their cornettos are delicious! I fell in love with the chocolate ones. My wife was a fan of their cream filled cornetto. Their cappuccinos were awesome! But my favorite was the orange juice. So fresh! Cafe Portofino is one of my FAVORITE gelaterias! The staff is so kind and they always make their gelato creations look amazing! All of their flavors taste so fresh and their portions are HUGE for the price! I would highly recommend this place for anyone in Prati or Rome looking for a genuinely good gelato shop. This is a legit place to stop by while walking the neighborhood. Which is how we found it. You can't walk by and see the place without stoping! Very nostalgic but also fresh. This is place that you walk by on your first day and make a point to stop by everyday. This is the place to go if you have an afternoon to sit and people watch. The menu was perfect. Gelato creations were insane! As an American you expect to find this with high tourist prices but it was very reasonable. Service was great. Went here a few times for the lovely atmosphere. Being an American who has never tasted REAL gelato before, and when i say real i meant non powdered ingredients with excessive sugar to raise my sugar level 3 times higher than it should be --- i fell in l-l-love. that one cone can do wonder to a girl. just looking at it makes my heart melt. until this day, it gives me butterflies and a jittery feeling inside my stomach every time i think about the scrumptious flavors of pistachio and strawberry gelato (my two favorite flavors) inside my mouth. DROOOOLS. if i can come back to Rome for ONE thing. i'd choose gelato! and Portofino for it's snowball sized cone, and the funny condom it has with its business card. I can't express to you my affection for this gem of a gelato shop. I have lived in Rome for almost 3 months and I have been to dozens of gelato shops, but nothing has topped this place. This place is pretty cool, it's a cafe with coffee, pastries and baked goods and gelato. Their gelato is yums too, you can even get it in the morning though there are less choices because they make most flavors daily. This place is in Rome but on the Vatican City side of the Tiber. Pistachio Gelato in a Cup with a Cone. NOMS. I liked how they gave me a cone even though I got it in a cup. The gelato itself was just alright, Gelateria di San Crispino makes it better. This one too creamy and not nutty enough for my liking. I did have a taste of the watermelon though and that one is pretty bomb, tasted just like watermelon juice in cream form! read more

Portofino is an okay bakery/gelateria. There are better gelatos/pastries/sandwiches in rome (try gelateria de gracchi for their gelatos a few blocks over!). Although it is often busy, the line moves quick and the servers are helpful. Downside to that was that my panini wasn't heat up all the way through because they were flying through everything. This is a great place to stop and get a granita or gelato on a hot day. They have plenty of outside seating that is shaded by a huge awning. Their menu also contains great sundaes and coffee treats that I would have loved to try. read more

I went here based on recommendations from friends who visited Rome before. The place was bustling with people as guys in uniforms were downing their caffes at the gelato bar. After patiently waiting for them to clear the area a little, I got a cone of tiramisu flavored gelato. I thought I couldn't really go wrong with that flavor as my first one in Italy, but it tasted soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo artificial. I also got a medium size scoop, which I'm glad that they're generous with the quantity, but it melted fast. The gelato got the wrap around my cone wet and sticky so I couldn't peel it off the cone to eat my cone. RIP. Sigh. Afterwards, I had to walk around for a good few hours with my sticky hands taking pictures for random strangers since I was out and about. Perhaps other flavors are better? But tiramisu is not the way to go. read more

We can here for breakfast , Ordered ham and cheese terrible. Coffee was terrible , returned it and ordered tea. Stupid manager did not give me credit for coffee. Terrible serve, manager an asshole. A friend and I were staying in the area and wanted a cappuccino one morning. It was a nice, crisp morning and a quick walk at 7:30AM. We walked over in our sweats. Easy to find from the Lepanto Station/Viale Guilio Cesare. Girl, that cappuccino was good. Like perfect. I had this puffy danish with cream in the middle and my friend had the donut filled with nutella. That puffy danish was lit and filling, and my friend melted over that nutella filling.
