Caffe Fiore is my favorite coffee shop in Upper Queen Anne. It has a neighborhood feel to it, as it is part of an old house. The indoor and outdoor seating are plentiful even during times when it is busy. I love getting the Valencia since it's the most unique (other than seasonal items) drink on their menu. It's basically a mocha with orange zest. I don't typically like citrus + chocolate, but it's very well done taste-wise and in execution. The baristas here are masters, as you would expect. While really enjoying that drink, I typically get a decaf Americano since I'm boring. Even the Americano is worth the extra walk from the main strip of Upper Queen Anne. Although unless you're a regular or really love Americanos, I recommend trying the Valencia or a latte since the baristas really just are that excellent! read more

I am a cold brew fanatic and this one did not disappoint. This coffee shop is conveniently located near Kerry park. The ambiance makes it great for reading and relaxing. Most of the people here have their eyes fixed on their laptops and are obviously focused on work. The wood decor and lighting are amazing. It is dark inside, which is fine in winter, because it's dark(er) outside. I didn't realize that the owner also is the proprietor of the charmingly old fashioned, San Francisco-inspired Cafe Vita on the east side of Queen Anne hill, near the Seattle Center/QFC. The drawbacks are that the noise from the espresso machines is considerable and the very nice baristas talk over that din, adding more din. Obviously one needs to have ear-canceling headphones. It would be nice if you could a decent pot of tea (Darjeeling, etc.). The coffee drinks are heavily sweetened. The Sevilla is not always available as it requires orange rind ground when Cafe Fiore opens. The Adirondack chairs outside are uncomfortable. Pleasant neighborhood venue, half a mile away from the other coffeehouse/bakery/cafe (Macrina on West McGraw). A steady flow of people walking to and from the ice creamery, even in winter. read more

I've been coming to this exact shop since 2006 when I was in college. Used to love it, have written papers there and the place has nostalgia. Came yesterday with friends from out of town who were excited to try coffee in Seattle. There wasn't a single person in line. The barista, who had long blonde hair, was incredibly inhospitable. He VISIBLY rolled his eyes when my friend asked for a French vanilla cappuccino. "Um we don't have FRENCH vanilla...we have vanilla." In the rudest tone. I don't know why I even tipped $2, probably because I have stolkhom syndrome from all the awful service in this city lately. Really memorable experience, not in a good way. I also see this isn't the first time in the comments someone has complained about the same barista. Management needs to get it together (watch, he is probably the manager). Great study place... seems to attract a ton of college kids on the weekend. Yummy americano beautifully crafted. A fair amount of outlets as well. Was a little dark in the room for a more studious atmosphere I assume. I always see a ton of people lounging on the wooden chairs outside. A customer near me did have a dog and there is a bowl of dog treats which is adorable. Didn't have a ton of food choices... seemed like the typical coffee shop baked goods. 4 words = Worst Matcha Latte Ever. I'm not sure if I came in at a bad time (passed by around 20 minutes before closing on a Sunday) or the barista just didn't care? My drink was absolutely awful. Not only was there no latte art but the matcha flavor was watered down. I tried adding milk to it and it didn't help. It ended up tasting more like milk but with matcha sprinkled in it. I went here tonight for the first time, and the latte I got was super good, and the latte art was some of the best I've seen around the city. Unfortunately, though, my husband and I thought the barista was a total grump. We were at a table for a few hours in the shop and we observed him communicating with a few other customers and couldn't believe how unapproachable he was. Not sure why you'd be a barista if you dislike talking to people that much. When we left, we said, "thanks!" and he totally ignored us, which prompted me to write this. Came here on a Sunday afternoon because the library two blocks away had closed and I still needed to finish up some work. I was surprised to find that this place was actually a lot quieter and nicer to work in than the library! Plenty of big tables, there were a handful of people but no one was talking, with nice instrumental music in the background. I got a scone to nibble on while I was there. It looked good, but it tasted like the dough in the middle wasn't quite fully baked yet. Mind you, I was here at around 5pm on a Sunday so I can imagine that this was sitting out all day.. I didn't try out any of the drinks so I can't comment on that. I would come here again if I need a quiet space to work or study, but maybe get a drink instead. read more

This coffee shop is located in an old converted home it has some very large windows in the front. A mix of large circular tables and some counters at seating and standing height. The walls are adorned by artwork which is rotated frequently. Newcomers might not catch the queuing rules - you should be running along the bar North to South. The interior lighting can be a bit dim. You'll probably never have any glare on your laptop monitor as you work along side telecommuting tech workers and college students. It is a great place to get some work done there are plenty of power plugs, ample desk space and easy to access free Wifi. You'll likely never be bothered by the other Seattle patrons who's hearts are coated in some sort of Gore-Tex® repelling unnecessary human interaction. You might go several hours with the only conversation being the ordering of coffees or someone receiving an incoming phone call. Despite what some other reviews mention I have always received pleasant service from the staff. I find the music selection enjoyable and often fire up Shazam to figure out who the artist is. In the summer the exterior patio is the best place to be. There are a good number of comfortable Adirondack wooden chairs. If you're lucky the sunshine has taken affect and burnt off some of your fellow Seattleite's protective barriers and you could actually engage someone in idle chitchat (but nothing too deep). It is also a great spot to pet canine friends as they go inside to get a free dog biscuit. Now for the coffee. It is very good! The lattes are my favorite and the majority of the time have a nice artistic coffee art - see my photo. The drip coffee is as good or better than most places Americanos. I'd like more food options and longer hours. If they have run out of treats you can always grab one across the street at Top Pot Donuts. If you see me here say hello. read more

Its SO easy being green! The matcha green tea latte is a grassy tasting, delicious, and not too sweet. The flavor is enough to make a die hard consider dialing down the caffeine without the cruel cold turkey methodology! All this taste and a lime green color. Of coarse, they have fantastic beans and therefore excellent espresso drinks for those kicking it old school, and honestly this is the best expresso in town. My favorite decadent treat is the Mocha with a twist of orange rind --called the Sevilla. Cafe Fiore seems to nail their drinks with a perfect balance of sweetness, all the great deliciousness without the cloying over sweetness. Perfect! Even though the cool kids work here, they are the friendly cool kids, nice, smiling and they know their locals. Oh and they pull a mean expresso. read more

I'm giving two stars only because the coffee is excellent but the staff is not friendly at all. I've been going here regularly for the three months I've lived in the neighborhood and there is never a smile, let alone a 'hi' or any kind of engagement from baristas. One of the baristas in particular just stares blankly at me whenever I come in like she is annoyed by my presence. I thought it was just me but I see several recent one-star reviews here all commenting on the staff's behavior. I love the convenience/closeness of the shop is great and I'm sure that's what keeps its doors open but it just isn't worth it to keep spending my money there for sub-par customer service. I've received much, much better service and engagement from baristas at random Starbucks stores and other coffee shops. I love to support local businesses and want to like this neighborhood cafe, but the staff should make an effort. They make an upsettingly good latte and cappuccino ... and macchiato ... yeah, actually, they just make good coffee, period. I moved to Seattle very recently and am super glad to have found my neighborhood coffee shop. The folks at the counter are also ridiculously friendly and not only recognised my face after being in there twice but chat cheerfully with half the folks who come in. I'll only go here if the people I'm with insist on it. Organic is no longer a rarity. As a result, surly baristas and burnt beans won't cut it. Particularly not on Queen Anne where there is a coffee place [or two] per every block. I remember asking the server about when the rumored Top Pot was going in across the street. the answer: "We're not scared!" I was trying to understand what the heck that meant. I'm guessing thou doth protest too much, my Fiore Friend, but for no good reason - Top Pot and Fiore are serving completely different demographics. This is the best coffee I've had in the Upper Queen Anne area. To be frank, that's not a particularly high bar to clear: the other places I've been here are Starbucks, which is, well, Starbucks; Caffe Ladro, which is shockingly bad for the boutique establishment it presents itself to be; and Storyville, which might have better coffee but also has an owner on the board of stridently anti-gay church Mars Hill, so will get none of my business regardless of quality. That said, Caffe Fiore is fairly good. I tried the Kyoto and the French press coffee on my visit earlier today. I only had a sample of the Kyoto, a "Japanese cold brew" they offer. It's served in a smaller cup, and based on that and the strength of the sample I had I'd imagine it's cold brew concentrate rather than cold brew. I'm no weakling when it comes to strong coffee, and generally prefer the concentrate to the concentrate-plus-water stuff that is generally served as cold brew, but this was a little bitter for my tastes. The best cold brew concentrate I've had, whether at Caffe Vita or my own that uses extremely fancy-schmancy beans, tastes like normal cold brew but more intense: though it may be more bitter, the rest of its flavors - fruitiness, chocolatiness, whatever - are also amplified, offsetting the bitter. This one was just bitter, other flavors taking a definitive backseat; ergo, I opted for the French press instead. The French press was fairly good. I think it had been sitting out for some time, as it felt a smidge tepid, but even so it was smooth and well-balanced. I've seen some reviewers complain about the graininess of the French press, but that texture is one of the draws for me - if I wanted smooth brewed coffee, I'd just get drip and save a buck per cup. The coffee was appropriately grainy without being overwhelming, making it a more interesting drink without me feeling like I'd swallowed any grounds - something I struggle with myself when I make my own French press at home. Overall, I don't think I've been completely sold on Caffe Fiore - though, to be fair, I didn't have any of their particularly fancy drinks, the two things I tried there aren't so much better than that which anyone can make at home with a $15 French press or a jar of coffee grounds left to steep in the fridge that I'd be willing to shell out the extra cash or take the extra walk (I live about 20 minutes from Fiore, but 5 from the other three QA places I've tried). That said, it is still very good coffee, and if I were looking to show someone coffee places around my house and weren't willing to walk all the way down to lower QA, this is where I'd take them. read more

Made a stop here today after needing to use a restroom and ended up trying this delicious mocha with hints of real orange peel flavor. They also sell vegan donuts and other pastries. Without getting myself into trouble, I'll just say that I'm surprised by the reviews that indicate that the reviewers have received bad service here. I've been a devotee of Fiore for about 7 years, and have never had anything but great service. Their espresso is rich, creamy and delicious, just like I like my men. I used to go to the one in Sunset Hill near the upper entrance to Golden Gardens. Perfect after-work relaxation when combined with a walk to the dog park down the stairs. Most recently I visited the newer one in Ballard on Leary Way, and they were playing back-to-back Depeche Mode and the baristas were taking time to give personal attention to everyone in the long line as they prepared drinks in an expedient fashion. The latte was delicious, as usual. Also, the Queen Anne branch rocks. It's near one of the places I used to work, so I spent many a lunch break there reading with a perfect soy latte.
