Looked up best espresso near me. Many coffee shops came up. But somehow Caffe Italian stood out. Only issue it was 12 miles away. But I have to say, I had an amazing experience. My wife and went here for drinks. Ended up having a chicken parm panini with drinks that were all delicious! So not sure what the other 2 reviewers were referring to about stale pastry, we had several different pastries after the sandwich and they were all excellent. Service was great!! Stumbled upon this restaurant driving thru Shelton, and was very pleased!! The ambience was great. Nice place to sit and have coffee and food. Unfortunately I got the chicken cutlet with pesto and the chicken was so tough I couldn't eat most of it. I think they cooked it earlier and then microwave it. Very disappointed! And I didn't even taste the pesto. New favorite spot to grab a coffee and a treat before hockey. They have a lot of Italian imports and there always seems to be Italians hanging around when we come, so they are true to brand. They also have a bar and they stay open late which is great for pregaming adult league hockey at the Rinks next door. read more

The place is nicely decorated and clean. The parking is right outside the front door, which is convenient but limited. Also, there are two steps up to enter the business and no safety railings, so anyone handicapped or with other mobility issues should be aware. We dropped in for pastries & cappucino. The server was attentive and prompt, which is always appreciated. I had a cappuccino which was very good but on the small side in my opinion. Husband got coffee and loved it. He also got a piece of carrot cake and returned it because it was so stale. It was replaced with another one (smaller than the first and almost as stale). I got a piece of tiramisu which was better. Lots of good looking goodies but next time I would ask "what's fresh today?"
