Came here three times: for dinner, for breakfast, and for drinks. Dinner: 4 stars. The menu was a single page but had a variety of items and the quality of food was very good. Loved the shrimp tacos! While ordering food was slow because the servers were working the bar and tables, the food did come out quick. Breakfast: 2 stars. While there was a variety, the quality wasn't great and it wasn't worth $16 + tax + tip. Also, I was confused why tip was even on there considering its self service. Drinks: Great. We arrived late from a long day of travel. We were grateful that the restaurant at the hotel was open. We went down to get something light to eat. We were seated for a while and waited for someone to take care of us. Even though the place wasn't crowded, they may have been short staffed. Gina was our server. The food is delicious but paired with terrible service. This is the second time we came since staying at the hotel. We were seated once the hostess returned to her post. Sat for a while with no server while one gal was standing around or drinking out of her Yeti, and the other making drinks. Last night the two servers stood at the bar talking without serving us. i was waving yo one for drink refills and she turned to ignore me. I went down to the bar looking for a spot to read a book and have a cocktail or two before going to bed and relaxing in the hotel. The hotel was hosting a couple of different events so the bar area was crowded and had no available seats, not a problem! I go back and ask for a table and get seated promptly. I sit down and the waiter (who was nice) took my order: a single old fashioned, expecting a quick wait I sad down and began to read a wait I expected to be less than a couple of minutes turns into 5, then 10, then 15 after was was almost surely 15-20 minutes it waiter comes over and apologizes saying the bar was backed up. I was pretty flustered but said fine, but after waiting another 10 minutes without a drink or anyone giving me a status update I got up, found my waiter, and told him that I no longer wanted the drink and left. I'm sure based on reviews that this isn't the first time this has happened, but in a hotel within 20-30 of downtown New Haven with a plethora of of great food and drink options, I could have gotten back from dinner downtown, then placed an order at this bar, then driven down back down to downtown new haven and found parking and a bar that could get me my order in the same amount of time if not less than it took for me to leave the bar without even getting my drink at Parallel Post. I wish no ill will on the staff but busy or not that wait was brutal and so much longer past the point of reasonable excuse. If the bar is that backed up then you need more bar staff for days of the week there's an influx of people at the hotel/ dining there. I hope they improve because a hotel bar drink is a very nice way to spend time while on the road but I'd rather Uber or drive and find another option next time I stay at this hotel. read more

Reviews were not so good, and we felt that we should, go elsewhere, out of the hood. But lazy got the best of us and we opted to eat where we stood; staying at the hotel made for an easy could. The service by Peter, the two nights we ate, could not have been better, make no mistake. Attentive and professional, in his neat and clean attire, would be anyone's claim to simply aspire. The food was delicious, and the drinks too! Margarita and Martini danced to the light of the moon until midday, and only because checkout is at noon. Absolutely shocked I am giving a hotel restaurant in the middle of CT a 5-Star review...but I am. Running late, didn't feel like leaving the grounds...we gave it a shot. So glad we did. Brussel Sprouts app was the first surprise. Flavorful, with lots of pine nuts and just the right amount of sauce. The steak salad with tangy vinaigrette and seared chicken w/ whipped potatoes and zesty grilled summer vegetables were very VERY good. We were shocked at how good the food was. A nice warm brownie sundae presented with cream florets and chocolate drizzle. Can't say enough good things. read more

We had the breakfast buffet which was disappointing. I've had hotel breakfast buffets in many hotels. They are all about the same. The French toast was like toast jerky, hard to eat, crusty and way too chewy. The sausage had small pieces of bones in it. The eggs were egg substitute mix. $55.00 For three people was a rip-off and the waitress said she charged us less.... it was the continental price! This hotel is not by any stretch a high end hotel with high end breakfast that can get away with that kind of pricing. One of our friends and her husband stopped at the bar the night before and told us they had an espresso martini for $20.00 and a bourbon on the rocks 20.00. That's ridiculous in my opinion. I am not a big fan of this place. Parallel is located inside the Marriott. It has a nice interior and a pleasant atmosphere. However the place is impossible to find. Seriously. I got lost when attempting to find it even with my GPS. The turn into the hotel comes up really suddenly so be on the lookout for that. They, or the hotel in general, really need a better sign or something. When I did find my way inside, I then could not find the restaurant and some ladies pointed me toward it. Not a friendly vibe in the air. I wasn't feeling to hot and just had a grilled cheese sandwich. The menu was extremely limited anyway so I figured how can I go wrong with a grilled cheese.But I didn't care for it. The bread had sort of a bland taste. I do not think it was white bread. I did not finish it.The food also took a long time and the place itself didn't feel comfy or welcoming. There was this odd stiff quality to everything even the tables. And given how limited the menu was, I did not feel the urgent need to come back. As for the positive, it's pretty inside and seems clean. The staff themselves were quite pleasant. Very enjoyable lunch. The menu was short and sweet. I asked if I could just have a simple grill cheese sandwich on sourdough bread. The waiter said no problem. I decided to try the sea salt fries with it. My daughter chimed in that she would have them same thing. In no time our sandwiches were delivered exactly as we ordered. The fries were heavenly. Overpriced. Breakfast. Buffet. WAY WAY overpriced. With few (if any) a la carte options - depending on the disposition of your server on that given day. Here was a conversation with my waitress last time I was there: Me: "I would like to order off the menu" Her: "We're only offering the buffet today: Me: "Does that mean that I can't have the egg white fritata?" Her: "Oh, ok. I'll put in your fritata." See the fritata is only a dollar or two less than the buffet. So there was no problem for the waitress. She wouldn't lose out on padding the check. Some of the other menu items are far less expensive. Bastards. Money grubbing bastards. Or maybe they just imagine everyone is on expense accounts and it's just easier for everyone to charge each person $14 for a breakfast buffet. Or maybe they are lazy. Regardless. Let me get the bad out of the way first.....as a taller person, the base of the tables is HUGE and i had an uncomfortable time with my feet. My wife who is 5 3, had no issues. We went on a dead night and the openness of the restaurant into the giant hall ways was a bit odd. Now the food... We started with their burrata and it was great! Soft as it should be with a wonderful salad below it and some delicious crostini. My wife went for the short rib and it was insane! She had to share. Plenty for her to take home for lunch the next day. Root veggies were great with it. I went for the Rib Eye. The flavors were great and it was bone in. However, i have never seen a small cut still on the bone. No clue how they accomplished that. When i think bone in, i expect a much larger cut esp for the price. We'll be back again to try some other things out. Staff was great. read more

For a hotel this is a great restaurant. I've been here many times on business travel. The service is always great. Very attentive. The food is pretty dang good. Some highlights. The soups have always been fresh and well made. The steak salad is big, filling, relatively healthy, and good cuts of steak on it. I did not like the mussels (definitely frozen). The burgers are very good. The spaghetti and meatballs are somehow different but still delicious. If you stay at the Marriott you'll immediately see there is NOTHING around to eat except McDonald's and a Chinese takeout place. It's so bizarre. So thank god this restaurant is good and I highly recommend it. read more

Dined here for a late dinner after driving most of the day. Promptly seated in a dark comet, ordered steak and Caesar salad, my wife had roasted tomato soup and crab cake. Food came promptly and was very good. During dinner noise from the adjacent bar was so loud we could not carry on a conversation and after serving the food the waiter vanished. Had to ask hostess to find the waiter. An additional negative was employees cleaning adjacent area while we were eating. It is too bad the negatives ruined a good dining experience. Some sound deadening and/or moving bar and television away from the dining area would be a huge improvement. read more

With its creative, farm-to-table menu and foodie buzz, Parallel Post is a place you want to love. But can't. Yet. What's working against the folks at PP? Well, for one thing the restaurant is basically in the lobby of a hotel with no real barrier between the walkways and the tables. Sometimes that works, but it doesn't seem to here. Nor do the couchlike seats at the tables. My couch-mate got up and the whole banquette went sliding. For some reason the acoustics are such that it's always loud here, even though it wasn't packed. A lot of that is to be expected at a hotel restaurant, but what was really off-putting was the long wait between courses or a wait staff appearance. The staff is unfailingly nice, but an occasional check-in or apology for the delays would have helped. As for the food, there were a few highlights that I would recommend. The grilled cheese was quite tasty (and I'm sure even better if you get it with the bacon). The hot fish dip is like something yummy you'd find at a party. The mahi over white beans really was a meal that rises to the hype PP has been getting. I would say the chocolate panna cotta with salted caramel sauce and toasted hazelnuts makes it all worthwhile. I might go back sometime just for that. It's a bit sweet to start, but when you mix all three components together, it's outstanding. So, bottom line, I think I like the idea of Parallel Post more than the reality right now. Judging from the reviews, this is not atypical. They have huge potential and are on the right track. There's not a lot they can do about the setup and the noise, but they can at least bring the service level up. If they make the service rock like that panna cotta, they've got a grand slam home run on their hands! read more

If I could I would rate this place 4.5 stars. I used to work in this area and there was a real lack of places to go for a foodie quality meal. It seems that things have finally changed. Located inside the Trumbull Marriott (really) it is a sophisticated restaurant with very innovative, locally sourced food. The menu is made up of small plates, salads, entrees, sandwiches. The menu highlights the many locally sourced things - CT shoreline clams & oysters, local goat cheese etc. I was there for lunch today w/friends were we shared a few small plates then had salads. -Clams BLT (grilled romaine, tender clams, thick smoked bacon & a tomatoey broth on toasts. YUM - this should be an entree offering too. -Roast Oysters with preserved lemon butter - mmm -Grown up Grilled cheese: brie, pear jam/compote & truffle oil (could eat this all day) Salads: -Duck Confit Salad: crisped tasty duck on frisee-ish greens with a light peanut dressing served on top of a thin layer of spicy hummus. I loved this. -Roast Beet salad w/a lightly crumbed and warmed goat cheese mound w/beautiful greens & a basil vinaigrette. I was being a good girl & skipping dessert but the cardamom rice pudding w/peacr & cherry jam, layered in a mason jar with Pistachios looked amazing (friend said it was v.yummy) We'll be back, hopefully for cocktails and more small plates next time- it's kind of a haul from CT Shoreline but exactly half way between me and my lower Fairfield county friends. Oh man, I am full and happy right now. I am home for Christmas break and spend most of my time eating in NYC and Philly so I couldn't be happier that Trumbull has a restaurant of this caliber. I had the pleasure of tasting several things on the menu, as I ate in a group of 4. Every single item I ate was spot on...short ribs, redfish (butternut squash ravioli-WHAT), seafood pasta, frissee salad with duck confit, pork carnitas, clams BLT...the list goes on. What makes it even better is that everything is from local farms/fresh farm to table. The quality and presentation is impeccable. The service is outstanding, and you don't really feel like you're in a hotel. This is my new spot when I come to Connecticut. PS: chocolate pannacotta is to die for. read more

I stay in this Marriott regularly, and when I do I try to avoid eating at this restaurant. The problem is that there really isn't any other place to eat around here. The food isn't bad per se, it's just a very limited selection, none of which is particularly interesting. After eating here 4-5 times you've basically had everything on the menu. The brussel sprouts are definitely one of my favorites. Also I like the local beer they have on tap. The ambiance is one of the issues I have with this place - it's dark and loud and really not very comfortable. When I have to eat here, I either take the food to the concierge lounge or sit in the lobby area where it feels friendlier. (The service isn't great either.) I feel like Marriott could do well with a strong restaurant in this location. This one just isn't it. read more

We have been coming here for at least 7 years. No matter what they or the front desk tell you, they are not back to the full menu. They have a very abbreviated bar menu, with items unavailable (crab cakes) So many of the favorites are missing, clams, beet salad, pannacotta. Not terrible service, not what we had when Dave was here. Food was very salty and just ok, prime rib was too salty and tough, chicken Marsala was salty, very thick and had little Marsala taste. We came for our 39th anniversary and we should have stayed home. So disappointing. read more

I gave this bar/restaurant a 1 start rating for the following reasons. 1st it took about 5 min to have someone asking me what I wanted to drink, while seated at the bar, when there were only 4 customers. The food ( I had some wings ) were ok. Order some IPA, which I paid a whooping $8.50, for a 16oz draft, IMHO a little expensive. On the menu the price of the wings was $10, but when the bill was presented it showed $11. Asked why there was a difference, and the answer was, the system sometimes does it, and instead of offering to get it fixed, he just asked if I really wanted to just reopen the tab for a dollar difference. I just signed my credit card receipt, left a tip and turn my back on it. There was visibly no effort to fix it.Needless to say, next time I stay at this Marriott I am not letting myself be robbed again. read more

I had two meals here. Dinner first, then breakfast the next day. Dinner was so amazing that it offset the meh breakfast. Dinner. My waiter, Dave was great. Polite, attentive, enthusiastic, and helpful. App was as good as any I've had! Oysters on the half shell, with a bit of crumbled bacon, a bit of Pecorino, and a dollop of fresh butter - all placed on a fire grill, so the oyster lightly poached in its own liquor. Served in the shell, placed on a slice of baguette. The serving of three was oh-so-good! I drizzled the liquid onto the baguette slice, spooned the oyster and company onto the slice, and popped it all into my mouth. Had I known ho good these were, I'd have ordered a dozen and called it a night! For dinner, I had the skirt steak, medium rare, with chimichuri, over thinly sliced Yukon Gold potato. As a side, I ordered the Brussels sprouts, roasted with garlic, pine nuts, and dried apricot chunks! Wow! So amazingly delicious - EVERYTHING was prepared and served, perfectly! Here's the kicker; this place is in a Marriott! Yeah! A hotel restaurant!!! This was the best restaurant dinner I've had all year! The next morning, I was totally underwhelmed at breakfast. My server was so unprofessional, so ill-trained, and basically useless. The menu options looked great, but alas, the specialty item with chorizo was unavailable, so I went with Eggs Benedict. The poached egg, the Canadian bacon and the English muffin were fine. The Hollandaise was a thin, dried-out coating. I gave up trying to flag my server down to get more. Pros: - specialty drinks are delicious - great bottle beer selection - happy hour pricing of food is fantastic - all the food I ordered was great and flavorful - wings, chicken sandwich, fancy grilled cheese - the design and atmosphere is adorable and makes me feel like I'm not in Trumbull CT Cons: - prices for drinks are TOO much for a hotel in Trumbull ( we don't live in NYC) - same is true for food (it is outrageous the pricing on items) - tapped beer offering is AWFUL (I get the local beer trend but the quality and taste of the beers are bad- are the tap lines cleaned?) - the wait staff is very inconsistent. I felt the bus boys were more attentive and helpful than the waiter - bartenders definitely attend to people they know before people who arrived much before them. - the happy hour time don't make sense.
