Outstanding coffee shop on a great location. Caffe Casa is a place I visit every time I'm in Kalamazoo. It's owned by a husband and wife duo and their offerings are absolutely delicious every time. Their sandwiches and pastries are my favorite. On sandwiches, the star of the show is their signature Herb Mayo (also known as crack mayo). Kathy (the owner) has been using the same tried-and-true recipe for years and it keeps people coming back... it's that good. I love the chicken club - chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato on a fresh croissant with that crack Mayo! Oh, it's so good. Pair it with one of their delicious homemade pastries and a luscious coffee or tea and it's a meal made in heaven. This place has a unique ambiance where you're surrounded by quirky art and a plentitude of thriving plants. To me, this is the perfect coffee shop and of all the ones I've ever visited in my lifetime, this one is my favorite. read more

Very cute little cafe in downtown Kalamazoo. I popped in briefly on one of the coldest days of the year and walked in with a nearly frost bitten face and fingers. Hot chocolate was the only thing on my mind so I went with that. I'm a bit of a hot chocolate connoisseur and I have to say, this was some of the best I've ever had. Dark, creamy, and rich. Not too sweet and not too hot either. It was perfect. I sat down for a moment since I had a bit of time to kill and admired the space. Cookies were baking and filling the room with delicious scents and at the counter there was a handful of delectable looking sweet treats behind the glass. The decor is eclectic and filled with lots of cool pieces (like a piano) and mismatched wood. The staff that helped me out was beyond sweet as well. I didn't get to spend much time here but it made an impression, for sure. Looking forward to trying a sandwich or a tasty looking cookie next time I'm around. After the third hour of conference, we were lucky enough to catch a break. My group decided to explore downtown Kalamazoo and grab a quick lunch. We stumbled upon Caffe Casa near Kalamazoo Mall. The place was quite interesting, very eccentric and calm at the same time. The walls were adorned with artwork exhibitions from local artists. The coffee place had the most comfortable couch and a working white piano for people to play delightful piece of music. The left wall facing the bar also showcased local pottery for sale and healthy foliage of cacti. I had the opportunity to talk to Kathy; she owns the coffee place together with her husband John. The couple has been operating the business for more than 20 years now. John and Kathy conscientiously believe in locally grown, sustainable and organic agriculture. Their goal is to provide high-quality and delectable food using local produce. Just talking to Kathy alone made me feel welcomed and cherished. It's the feeling that you don't usually encounter in most chain coffee establishments especially when visiting a city. She was a very genuine entrepreneur and her passion for the establishment and to the city as well, was awe-inspiring. I ordered the Veggie Croissant (with tomato, lettuce, shredded carrots, provolone cheese and homemade herb mayo) with the homemade vegetarian soup, their soup du jour. The sandwich was delicious, the thick sliced tomatoes tasted so fresh and the lettuce crisp. I also tried their gourmet chai tea. The Caffe Casa also offers delectable and scrumptious desserts. Kathy makes her own Famous No Bake Cookies and John also creates his Homemade Turtle Candy Bars. They also offer muffins, bagels, cookies and brownies... pure sinful goodness.... Yum!!! The restroom was well maintained and clean. Clay pots festooned the floor under the sink and gave it a homey feeling. I was impressed. Caffe Casa, one of the coziest coffee houses around Kalamazoo... and free wifi!!! I will definitely go back here again, given the chance to visit K-zoo again. I love the turkey croissant sandwich, ham and bean soup, and brownies. The owner is really nice and seems genuinely interested in your experience. The artwork on the walls is exactly the kind of stuff I like. I do think it would be a bit nicer if they got new flooring as the tile looks outdated and kinda kills the atmosphere. Sometimes I go in just to take it in, the ambiance, which is usually just the right mixture of light and dark playing off of one another, with regards to the tea and coffee, and even the lighting in the space. Sometimes if you're lucky you might stumble in just to hear someone who's quite good at the piano take it for a spin. Other times, it's a perfect retreat from a summer rain that you had no idea about until you tried to walk out only to be greeted by Michigan's finest weather. They'll be no pouty faces, however, no need to rush in or out of here. Pull out a book, get your laptop out, plug your phone in and sit down in the bistro style seating, and invite a friend to do some work you've meant to do for weeks but you never gave yourself time for, because anything you could possibly order from here, will be the perfect compliment to the work you've decided to do or the "catching up" you end up engaging in. I've gone a few times, but the last time I was lucky enough to peek in, there were chocolate turtles that I could not say NO to. Too many childhood memories, too much happiness surrounded those things, so I had to give it a try, and of course, they were worth it. For my beverage, however, I went with a Cafe Au Lait. I wanted something simple to go with my sweet tooth and it was the perfect accompaniment to my impromptu work date with my partner. If you're in a big group they also have board games to keep you entertained! The best part about the food is that many things are homemade and are so yummy! Stopped by Caffe Casa for lunch while in the downtown Kalamazoo area for work. We had the bacon feta salad with spinach and tomatoes and the veggie croissant with provolone cheese, tomato, romaine and shredded carrots drizzled with Balsamic vinaigrette and herb mayo. This place just had weird vibes. They also messed up my order not once, but twice. Skipping Subway and instead wandering over to Caffe Casa for a quick lunch was the best choice I made all day. I decided to keep it simple with a cup of soup which hit the spot; I felt like I was eating grandma's homemade recipe and we all know grandma's cooking is no joke. The space was very quiet and calming and had a few unique quirks. Not only did the walls feature work from local artists, but one wall in particular was draped with exotic plant life. On my way out I couldn't help but inquire about the lemon tree sitting by the exit. The gentleman working at the counter said it was an old lemon tree which he usually keeps outside in the summer. After a haircut we stopped by Cafe Casa to get some coffee and were pleasantly surprised by the gluten free treats in the case. We remembered that Cafe Casa had water processed decaf coffee, but the GF peanut butter cookies were new to us. Mr. MVP had a decaf hazelnut mocha and I had a decaf latte. Both were delicious. We took treats home with us including caramels, no bake cookies, coconut macaroons and peanut butter cookies *all GF*. After testing all the goods we decided the peanut butter cookies won hands down. Kathy made a special mango cake for my wedding and a very cool groom's cake in lemon. The mango cake was so fantastic I always wanted another piece. This place is great. I come here every time I take the train+bus combo from Chicago to Grand Rapids. It's a little strange at first and the guy is a tid bit off but they have an incredible tea list and great food. I've had many snacks here and have been happy every time. And the tea list is a little intimidating but really fab for us tea drinkers tired of Earl Gray and English B-fast everywhere we go. Probably my favorite coffee place in Kalamazoo. I usually stop here on my way home from the bank. The coffee is a little on the pricey side, but that's not even much of an issue. Well if you have made it In Kalamazoo for over 10 years as a coffee shop you must be doing something right. Soups are my favorite always made with all high quality ingredients, according to owner John. Kathy makes the best egg salad sandwiches and be sure to get it on a homemade croissant. although I am not a tea guy I love their Ice tea with a touch of lemonade (also made in house). I don't want to spill the beans but the NO bake chocolate cookies are a source of arguments in our house, like did you bring me one home or hope your sharing! The tea selection is top of the line with some really special teas I have been told. Coffee is also my main beverage use and I love the brewed dark coffees they serve.
