Love this spot for a coffee and conversation! The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable!! The drinks are consistent and the variety keeps us coming back! True third wave coffee shop!! I love that Matchead is continually offering new drink features! I don't always know what I want to order and so new choices with great descriptions are always fun and so helpful to me!! My current favorite is a cappuccino with some vanilla syrup. My husband loves the Cortado and the Maple Sea Salt Latte! My son is a big fan of the chai at Matchhead! One aspect I truly love and enjoy probably a little too much is the gorgeous latte art I receive on every single drink I order! How do they do it?!?! Such talent!! Another great aspect of this sweet little coffee shop is they offer yummy food options! Everything we have tried is great!! I especially LOVE the quiches! They have the best presentation of their food that they serve! They also offer sandwiches, salads, and some of the most delicious baked goods provided by a lovely local baker, Gretchen's Bakery! BEST COFFEE PLACE ON THIS SIDE OF MICHIGAN. I am a decadent coffee fanatic and as someone who lived in NYC, the creations here are better than some Manhattan cafes I've been to! If you are a cold foam girl this is a must!!!! The biggest specialty to me is their custom cold foam, they can make any cold foam flavor based of their syrups, which I believe they make in house I added an earl grey cold foam to my hibiscus latte and it was magical! The coffee is STRONG and not at all watery, it is super creamy and paired with the syrups it's perfectly decadent but not too sweet. They also serve cold brew and nitro cold brew, and according to my boyfriend the matcha is decent too (paired with oatmilk is super creamy too.) They have a generous list of syrups (brown sugar, cinnamon, etc...) Not to mentioned the customer service is extremely friendly Haven't tried their food, but if you love a sweet coffee stop by! read more

Everything about Matchheads service and taste makes it my favorite coffee shop in Kalamazoo! I brought my parents and they said "Best bagels I've ever had! I wish I could have them everyday!". This is a thoughtfully designed coffee shop. With the goal of providing space to be a spark for conversation and thought, there are several seating areas that provide opportunity for large group, small group or individual seating. Possibly one of the worst breakfast experiences I've had. I ordered the avocado toast and was told it would be about 10 minutes. I waited 30 minutes for 2 pieces of sourdough dry/hard toast with a thin layer of avocado paste. I asked for no tomatoes - it was chalked full of them. When I mentioned it to the server she said - I only have a toaster oven. Free tip for the day - don't have a food menu if you don't have the proper kitchen equipment. read more

We came during the art fair, haven't really been on the ped mall since pandemic began. This business occupies a vast space, it's concrete floors are spartan, and sound bounces around quite a lot. It's not intimate, it's sparse. Wide open, with a very minimalist order area. There seems to be just coffee, which is fine, but led to a kind of awkward visit as my partner is more for tea than coffee. The staff couldn't answer the brand of coffee they served. Just that it was coffee. Ooooh-kay. Came to Yelp to discover its Onyx coffee, whatever that is, so I guess that answered my question. The staff seemed detached, like we all just found ourselves in a big concrete room and there happened to be coffee in it and a purchase terminal. The prices for what you get is laughable. $5.30 for a 8 ounce drink. I suppose the value proposition was half coffee half bathroom micro-rental. It isn't inviting or attractive. I wouldn't come here with anyone, or would I spend time in a concrete box like this one. My partner used the facilities, which are kept under lock and key, so that was unexpected and awkward. The bathroom conditions were reported as clean and tidy, however the supply conditions were absent. The toilet paper was difficult to locate and obtain, and there wasn't any paper towels, just a hand dryer. This business is not for us. We won't return. Which is fine, the ped mall isn't really a destination that we consider so it's for the best. I wish them luck. read more

Great coffee shop with cool vibes. The coffee is great. On my first trip, I had a rosemary orange latte, which was excellent. For my second trip, the cortado was perfect. My wife's maple black walnut latte was also delicious. Baked goods are amazing. Staff is very friendly, music is chill, and there's plenty of room for a large group or small quiet spaces to read or work. I travel to kzoo for work and it's a blessing to finally find this great specialty coffee shop downtown. Anyone who chooses to go to sbucks or another commodity coffee shop should really think twice. So i'm going to objectively rate this place instead of giving it a bad rating because of what a couple of the butthurt reviews did down below. 1. The coffee is good, plain and simple. The pricing maybe a tad high, but they aren't going for that Star Bucks "mass customer" model. 2. The service was good, i came with a few of my multicultural friends and they seemed to accommodate us just fine. 3. This is the reason why i gave it a 3, the space seemed a little awkward, i feel like they could have utilized the space they have to make it seem less distant. This was just a nit pick tho. Ill be back and re-review the place, but over all, if you want a nice relaxing space outside of a SB or Waterstreet, this nice little mall drive coffee joint cubby hole is not bad. read more

I noticed a new coffee shop had opened, so I went in to give it a shot. Found a space that fit the same blandly hip airspace aesthetic one expects from a local coffee shop of a certain type but noticed it felt even more aggressively generic than usual. It had a single sign that made a vague statement that all profits would go to the community, but nothing specific. After inquiring with the barista I discovered it's actually a coffee shop run by Radiant Church, one of those nondenominational evangelical church plants that proliferate across the country. Would give this place 1 star but the coffee was decent. I have visited a couple times and left feeling unsettled both times. For lack of a better way to say it, the vibes were off. While it seemingly looked like a great place to get work done I couldn't help but notice how mistreated I felt. The workers come off as pretentious and part of an "in group." it might be important to add that I am a member of the LGBTQ community and I don't like to assume this, but I think this might account for how I was treated. Staff were not friendly and I got a few ugly looks. I even felt like a burden for merely asking for the bathroom key. Oh well. will not be returning read more
