Coffee was okay not WOW,but very accurate and I think it was end of the day and they wanted to close the shop soon. I think a good amount of people reviewing here are comparing this place to one of the fancier coffee joints. I personally wouldn't as it doesn't really compare to them and I'd much more compare it to one of the coffee and pastry food carts with a few more options and an area to sit inside. This is very simply a long ran coffee spot which happens to have some pretty cheap (especially for the area) breakfast and lunch pastries. They have a nice mix of iced and hot coffee and tea including some Italian specialties which makes sense from the name. Speaking of which, I was having a bit of difficulty finding this place and I think it's because for some reason it's listed as "Cafe," not Caffe even though all the photos saying it with 2 Fs. Anyway I've had a few drinks here. I have had their cappuccino which is strong and well flavored. If you're a fan of the strength of Starbucks but without the grains flavor found there from over-roasting the beans, you'll probably like it here. The "regular" coffee is similarly just as strong as the carts outside. I've also had their iced vanilla frappe which was sweet with a strong coffee taste and I would also recommend it if you want a buzz all day. If you're looking for a no-nonsense strong coffee, this is a good place. It's not as good as places like Daniel's and a few other ones in the area but this isn't a fancy hipster spot. The staff here is also pleasant. Upper 3 for the reasonable prices and good strong coffee. read more

OMG! I have to complete this review while the experience is fresh in my mind. I've passed this little Cafe Bacio many years and never went inside. It's always packed with people and looks so small a space from the sidewalk. Well today I decided to stop in to grab a quick bite and coffee. I saw the empty seats at the window. As I entered I noticed the line wasn't too long. They looked like grab and go customers. I neared the counter and became disappointed that most everything looked full of carbs. I need something healthy after the bagel breakfast! In a heartbeat a very nice man peeked around the customers ahead of me asking if he could assist me. I said it was my first visit to Cafe Bacio. I told him I was hoping they had something stuffed with spinach or something green! He immediately said "How about Spinach Pie?" I replied asking if I could see it. I didn't want a huge piece today. He immediately brought it out and I was sold. I asked if he would kindly heat it. Then I asked the smiling young lady for a small coffee to go with it. I said I would sit at the counter to eat. My coffee was ready and Spinach Pie heated including a fork and knife with it ready to eat. When he rang it up and said $7.40 I was ecstatic! I carefully maneuvered the space and took a great corner seat in the window. After I ate I noticed the electric plug on the wall at my feet. Perfect timing before my phone died! Now I'm going to tell you how pleased I was with the taste and portion of my Spinach Pie. I love the delicate crust and plenty of spinach. I'm not burping up over-seasoning in the filling. It was also the perfect size for the light lunch I wanted. The coffee was pretty good too. I will enjoy the coffee again when I eat here. 12 Oz is a good size for my third cup of the day! The decor is very cute romantic and French feel. One of my favorite prints hangs on one wall. There's tables and chairs but I prefer the counter where I can look out the window. I can't say enough about how kind, friendly and efficient the employees were today. I really had a good experience. I'm sorry if I took too many photos. I want to savor the memories. I may not get to squeeze into the busy little cafe every time I want. I've noticed how busy it is for years as I walk past. Now I can say first hand I know why it's so popular! This woman and morning shift man are awful she calls me names she won't serve me she cancels all of my grubhub orders - I've spent so much money here and the owner does nothing! She allows this woman and the daytime guy behave in ways that no human being should be treated. It's dehumanizing. I spend money there everyday, I'm not even working bc the health crisis wiped out my business - taking a long walk twice a day has really helped me stay grounded in this horrible time it's a nice walk and it has gotten out of my apartment throughout this horrible health crisis. I went to target yesterday, and there was a place where a coffee shop was open on the way, so I just entered without expecting anything. Wow! I found an Americano that I totally loved. I could easily say it's one of the best Americano I've ever had in town. The sad thing is that this place is not close to my apartment. The Americano is very rich and heavy, so don't try it if you prefer a thin, light taste!! I haven't tried their bread or other coffee, but I will definitely go back often because of Americano. read more

Coffee is pretty good. Pastries are cheaper than most cafes in UES ( or in Manhattan in general!). An almond croissant, is the same price as a croissant, which is only $2.5! They have to offer in terms of baked goods, items that are wrapped up plastic. A good example would be slices of pound cake and muffins. You could easily pass this place if you're not paying attention, but if you're on the UES, hunt down Cafe Bacio! I've been going here for more than two years, and I haven't been let down yet! They get incredibly busy in the morning, which can be frustrating when you're running late or trying to meander your way out of the store, but the crowd is a very, very good thing. If there were no customers, wouldn't you be concerned? The staff there is friendly and try to work as efficiently as possible to reduce the line and your wait. If you go in often enough, they'll remember your order and start working on it as soon as they can. I'm one of those regulars, and my go-to drinks is their iced vanilla chai tea. It is amazeballs! I don't care if it's about $4.50 for a large because it's one of the best chai teas in NYC. When you need a refreshing caffeine fix on a hot summer day, it hits the spot and then some. If you're a Marymount Manhattan College student, staff, or faculty member, you get a 10% discount, FYI! Cafe Bacio is one of my favorite holes in the wall in Manhattan, and I'm going to miss it terribly when I move to Boston. I don't want to be "that person", BUT... I told myself to stop drinking so many iced chai lattes. It is really bad when you come to the realization that these are your main source of daily calcium. There are healthier, less sugary ways to achieve such health benefits. However, on my stroll to my U.E.S. office from the M98, I decided to stroll across East 71st Street to work (I needed to switch things up a bit), and this little place caught my eye. I glanced inside. They had iced chai! Ooooh...naughty, naughty Allie... I walked in. $4.25 for a 16 ounce small iced chai? *myeh* I knew right away that I should not, but...I did. Powdered "chai" that does not dissolve which caused me to suck up dried powder chunks at some points, too little milk, and a ton of ice. That is a Cafe Bacio iced chai. See? That's some other-worldly power punishing me for getting chai. Hell, at Starbucks, at least $4.46 will get you a fairly delicious 24 ounce Venti. At least my money is, technically, better spent there. As for the rest of the store, there were pre-made and wrapped pastries, your usual coffee options, and a little bit of sitting room, which was admittedly nice. Still, I can say, with confidence, this is the first and last time I will be visiting this establishment. I love to support the little guys, but my consumer dollars are better spent at Starbucks, where, for iced chai at least, I'll get the MUCH better bang for my buck. read more

Upon my last , AND FINAL visit , I was so mad at the way I was treated when I asked for a simple change in my order. They made my drink iced instead of blended. I decided to give this place a shot since Starbucks always has an overabundance of customers to the point where it makes the experience somewhat unpleasant. Frankly, I'm a bit tired of waiting in a line that wraps around the store while nervously glancing around the room for an open seat. So as I walked by Cafe Bacio this morning I noticed many an open chair, which to some may have been a warning, but for someone who at that point in time valued open seats over popularity, I decided to stop in. I got a caffe latte and a wheat croissant. The latte, for me, was a bit too strong. I prefer a milkier version, but it wasn't terrible. The croissant was actually quite good--nothing special--but a simple snack that reminded me of my time spent in Italy. And the open space was an amazing reprieve from the 30+ blocks I walked in search of that elusive Starbucks with any empty seat. Better prices too. read more

I was in the 'hood searching for a place to park my ass for a little bit and read and all of the other cafe's and coffee shops I poked my head into either had a 20 minute wait for a single chair along the wall or were exceedingly aloof when I asked for a table for one for coffee. The non-fat cappuccino I had was just fine and the service was very friendly. I really forgot how much i liked the coffee at this place! I recently ordered just a small hazelnut coffee with milk. It was so good that you could swear it was a creamy latte. Add some cinnamon and it was my perfect morning drink! Yes, they have huge shakers of cinnamon and cocoa just ready for my drink. Love it. Any decent coffee under $2 has me sold! Quality and good prices along with fast service! Total winner! There are so many good coffee spots on the UES that Cafe Bacio had slipped my mind but now since ive been reminded, i will be back for more! One downside about this small cafe is the lack of seating and space to move around after you order you drink/muffin.
