Bel Ami is a nice little cafe on the UES, great for a morning visit when the weather is nice since they have outdoor tables flanking either side of their corner location. The inside isn't huge, only a handful of tables that fill up quickly. The coffee was good, maybe a little bit of bitter aftertaste but still a tasty latte nonetheless. They have a nice selection of pastries and desserts, as well as some sandwiches and savory options. I got a cheddar jalapeño scone and thought it was good, the right level of doughy and good flavor throughout. Come for the outdoor seating if you're in the area and want to people watch. read more

I've been walking past this cafe for some time and loved the vibe and decor each time I walked past it. I decided to go in today and give it a try. It was raining so the only option was to sit inside. Good thing that a couple of tables opened up as soon as my order was ready so I was able to sit right next to the door on comfy couch type seating and got my own tiny table. I loved the design, the French interior design and the chocolate brown walls,ight fixtures and wall art. I wasn't really able to enjoy myself as much as I thought as the place was crowded and you can hear everyone chitter chattering all at once and the music was very low. The cafe was busy and there were people constantly coming in and out so it felt cramped. I stayed about a half hour drinking my latte and my small poppy bagel with soaked salmon and cream cheese. The latte was decent- almost tasted like it was straight out of one of those machines. It was not memorable and quite frankly I won't be going back for it. The bagel was good quality and the Smoaks salmon and cream cheese wasn't anything new. The bagel was the best thing honestly. There was also a faint odor throughout the cafe that wasn't pleasant. I love Bel Ami! It's great to sit outside when it's nice out and people watch. There's a single stall bathroom by the counter where you order and it's down some stairs. I got an iced strawberry matcha and it was actually one of the better matchas I've had in NYC. read more

Bel Ami consistently offers delicious soups, sandwiches and decadent desserts. Additionally, there are delicious yo go food, water and other treats. If you are dining in, the comfy seating, especially small booths near entrance, are wonderful to sit in, dine and people watch. The service is friendly and professional as well as the display, food is beautifully presented. Today we decided to stop by for a quick treat and hot drinks. The pear almond tart hit the spot: the crust, almonds and pear were scrumptious and enough for two people to share. I did not enjoy the Chai... just tasted meh but my friend enjoyed her cappuccino. What a cute little cafe! I was in the neighborhood and wanted a light bite and the locals told me about this cute little cafe Bel Ami. They have cute little covered outdoor seating and indoor seating, it's small inside but cozy. They have what looks like delicious baked goods and sandwiches and they have a small to-go section with drinks and food. I saw that they had soups to go and the prices on those looked reasonable. I wanted a smoothie, they didn't have one but I saw a nice menu of coffee, teas, and other warm drink options. I got a small pastry and loved it. The team was so nice and helpful. read more

Lovely café ambiance. The guys at the counter were kind, patient, accommodating. My iced coffee was very good. We chose an apple tart and a linzer tart and shared. Both good, but not anything special. Noticed as we walked downtown that there's another Bel Ami 2 blocks away! Anyway, it was a hot day, we'd just spent more than 2 hours at the Fricke with friends. This place is okay. I LOVED the Bel Ami location on East 68th Street, it was so cute and charming with kind of a European flavor. I didn't realize at first that they had closed. The Lexington location is a little bigger but it's still not the greatest in terms of seating options--however, if you wait a bit it seems like either a table will open up or you can ask to share with someone else if they have a spare seat. (They also have a bunch of outdoor tables, so I'm sure that is a big draw in the warm weather) I wouldn't really go out of my way to come here but if you're in the area it's an okay option, and the hot chocolate is good. read more

Cute cafe, friendly staff. I got their chai latte the first time I was there. Pretty disappointed, it tasted like steamed milk with a dash of tea. I gave the cafe a second chance and tried their almond croissant, which redeemed the cafe for me! The almond filling was flavorful and the croissant was nice and flaky. If they had a mini oven or toaster to warm it up, it would have been such a game changer. Would go again to try other drinks and pastries! read more

Nice location on the upper east side, and really chill and civilized atmosphere in the coffee shop. Coffee shop looks sophisticated, with curtains in the windows making it look like a posh French restaurant from the outside. Staff was very kind and professional and this is a main factor which determines whether I revisit a business. The coffee was enjoyable but not the greatest, and the quiche (I think it was) was good, especially heated. I will be making frequent visits to this location because of the very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in the coffee shop, in which the kind staff played a huge role. I hope they keep it this way. Attractive corner installation on Lexington, with small tables on 68th, much nicer than earlier one near Madison. Indifferent coffee and attractive lemon meringue tartlet that was absolutely without the slightest flavor of lemon, just the sugar of nicely burnished Italian meringue, indifferent, flake-less pâte brisée, and yellow curd of good texture and NO taste whatever. Lemons vary in flavor and acidity, but there was no evidence this tart contained even a teaspoonful of lemon juice. Don't waste time and money. Pain Quotidien's industrial plain lemon tart immeasurably better, and cheaper. read more
