Was driving my son back to college. We were sitting in traffic and I got off at a random exit. We had no idea where we were. I saw the sign and assumed it was a little corner bar / cafe and we'd grab a burger. Well don't judge a book by it's cover. This was a lovely little Portuguese gem. Great service. Great food. We tried Cafe Sport because I had a $25 certificate from Restaurants.com. I'm glad we gave this place a chance. The food was good and the service was exemplary! From the fresh basket of bread they put on the table to the delicious White Sangria, our meal got started off on the right food. We shared the Paella Valenciana which was enormous and mixed grill (sausage, skirt steak and chicken with rice and veggies) which we took home because we didn't have much room after the paella and bread. We had flan and a traditional caramel cream dessert...translated into English, I believe it was called "Camel's Drool." Don't let the gross name fool you--this dessert was light, airy, sweet creamy and decadent. So glad we tried it! After the $25 certificate our dinner for two was $57 plus tip. My wife and I had a $25 coupon for Cafe Sport which sounds like a sport bar but it's not. When we walked in we had to walk the length of the bar to get to the dining room. The dining room had a very nice inviting feel to it like in a fine restaurant. It was small but very lively with several parties and there was only one table available. It was Saturday night so of course they were busy. I guess we got lucky. We had to wait a few minutes for our table because the only people we saw was the bartender and one waiter. You can see they were short handed and working very hard and our waiter had mentioned to us they were short some staff that night. Even though they were shorted handed they treated us like regulars with a warm friendly welcome and it continued through the night. We started with a half pitcher of Sangria, very good. For our main course I had the Frango A Chefe, a Sauteed breast of chicken with mushroom sauce garnished with shrimp and wife had the Paelha Marinheira, a Seafood combination in saffron rice. Even though we had to wait almost 45 minutes for our food it came out very hot and it was excellent. This is a Portuguese restaurant and it seems to be a hidden gem. I wish I could have eaten more because the appetizers and deserts looked amazing. Next time I may just order an appetizer and desert. After dinner we handed our waiter the coupon and when we handed him the money to pay he shook bought our hands and thanked us for coming and being patient. He had no idea of how much of a tip we had left him but of course we tipped him on what the bill would have been before the discount and we were generous because he deserved it. We ate steaks, but the seafood menu is diverse and worth a look. Ask for a Portuguese house wine -- or a bottle if you usually drink a whole bottle with dinner. Portuguese wine in general is really good. They are doing a brisk takeout business, and the takeout is well packed. Only negative is the lack of a parking lot. The shrimp were small and the garlic sauce was bland. The dish was very underwhelming. For her main course, my wife had the pork and clams. This dish is a favorite of ours Cafe Sports was very good. Actually, it was the best dish of the night. I had the seafood I. Green sauce. Once again, the sauce was bland. The seafood was also disappointing. I would have given Cafe Sport two stars, but the service was good and the restaurant was very pleasant. All in all, a very disappointing night at Cafe Sport. I'm generously giving 1 star because their baked onion soup is gooey, cheesy, and delicious. That's pretty much it. Service is so slow, you'd think the clock was turning backwards. My family of 3 came in and we were asked if we had a reservation. No, but there were 4 empty tables and every other party pretty much had their food already. We were told to reserve next time - which honestly won't be a problem bc we won't ever be returning. We ordered 2 onion soups, 2 entrees (one steak, one veal marsala) and an app-as-entree for my daughter. It took 30+ minutes and me having to ask for our soups before we finally got them. During this time, the table next to us requested their check and gave a restaurant.com certificate. It took about 15-20 full minutes before anyone returned with a check. This dude was so angry from waiting he wouldn't sit back down in his chair. Then, the waiter came back with their check WITHOUT the certificate applied. Then proceeded to tell him they couldn't take credit cards bc the system was down, could he go use their private ATM in the bank and get cash. He went. He tried. It was broken too. His girlfriend/wife (angry also) forbade him from leaving the restaurant to go find an ATM, which they wanted him to do. The waiter then decided to write down all of this guy's credit card info (again, this took waaaay longer than it should've) on paper and said he'd charge him at another time. This couple was fuming when they left. Back to our ordeal --- soups finished, we sat waiting again...we had to ask for our entrees and were literally ready to walk out and only pay for our soups. Once our food finally arrived, my entree was inedible. Cold rice, cold broccoli, and veal marsala that not only had canned mushrooms, but so much salt my blood pressure must've doubled. I sent it back and didn't want anything else, lest it either take another hour, or come back with any "extras." (I've worked in a restaurant, I'll NEVER send back food and eat what comes out next) Our check comes and they still charged for my untouched, returned veal. Had to ask 2 staffers to send my waiter back over. Now going on 2.5+ hours, I asked him why would we pay $19.99 for an entree that was inedible, cold, and removed from the table? He explained that he offered to replace it, and that I didn't want anything else, so the charge stands. Seriously??????? He then continued the argument that my prepaid certificate (which was $25 towards a $50 minimum) required the minimum spend. Yeah, I get that - we would've totaled $63 had my meal not been inedible. To not spend another minute more, I asked him to please remove the veal, upcharge me the extra $7 to the total, redeem my certificate, and be done. BTW, my kid fell asleep on my lap since it was well over 2.5 hours all-in. We had to pay cash bc their system was down. Oh, and I've got the runs from whatever few bites of food I did take. But hey, at least the soup was good. *eye roll* read more

3.5 STARS---RECOMMENDED I'm giving Cafe Sport the consensus rating of 3.5 Stars but, contrary to my usual practice of not expressly recommending restaurants which I relate below four stars, I'm recommending that you give Cafe Sport a try. Let me explain: I look at Cafe Sport as fondly...(or probably more fondly:)) than long forgotten lovers. I have been going to Cafe Sport very sporadically over the years since the late 1980s enjoying Portuguese staples like Chorizos, Pork & Clams, Mariscada, Stuffed Lobster and Killer Sangria.I returned there on Sunday, 9/25 for a lunch with five members of my dining group after a hiatus of at least six years. Cafe Sport is a combination sports bar/Portuguese restaurant, with the vast majority of seats in the small and quiet dining room away from the loud and raucous bar area where very rabid European Football (Soccer) fans dominate the scene. Specify the adjoining dining room when you reserve!!!! The reserved but nice bartender made me a fruit filled, flavorful and nicely stiff half-pitcher of Red Sangria. The Sangria is very good here.My companions arrived and we were escorted to a large comfortable table in the adjoining dining room. Our bartender, who doubled as our server, gave us friendly and efficient service. I really enjoyed the nice show he put on with the flaming Chorizo Sausages I ordered as my appetizer.Unfortunately, the kitchen put in a notably poor performance, with gaps of about 45 minutes between courses, which was kind of inexplicable since the restaurant was empty. Onto the food: My Chorizos were amazing! The portion was huge.They were hot, beautifully spiced and delicious. I recommend you order them. I ordered the Mariscada in Tomato Sauce as my main. Mariscada is a seafood stew. It came with white rice. The shellfish was very fresh, filling and tasty. Contrary to my usual practice, I finished the stew and did not request a doggie bag. My fellow diners commented favorably upon the Mariscada in Green Sauce and the Calde Verde Soup. However, since we'd been sitting too long because of the kitchen's poor performance, no one was in the mood for dessert. I would have assigned Cafe Sport a FOUR because I really enjoyed all of the food and the killer Sangria. Moreover, I had been to Cafe Sport many times in the past and the kitchen has never been so slow so I think our group caught them on a bad day. Ate there for the third time and finally getting around to writing a review. As much as I'd like to write a good review, the food here is really just "ehh". The whole experience is "ehh". The prices are high for what you get and where you are. The food is hit or miss -- I really don't know how they call seafood soup with boiled rice "paella", it's nothing at all even resembling paella. Service ranges from OK to dismissive (especially the waiter with the ponytail -- always makes it feel like he's doing the customer a favor by taking their order). And be prepared to wait (90 minutes for three entrees the last time -- no appetizers, no desserts, no coffee, no drinks) Obviously other people have enjoyed the food here so you may too. Great spot, great food and great sangria. It's just a bar, nothing too fancy. If you want fancy, sit on their more formal restaurant dining section. I prefer to eat at one of the round tables by the bar with a group of 3 - 5. Their food is delicious and the sangria you should definitely get a pitcher of. There is TV and juke box, but too small to dance. The crowd here is pleasant and could get very lively. read more

The authentic Portuguese influenced restaurant has a nice dining that is very inviting. The dining area has ample room and although a bit smaller can easily sit comfortable 30+ people at a time, we were 9 in our group. The bar area separately was a nice add on as you can drink or eat there as well. There are a few TV's that mostly were viewing sports. The food was good and has to highlight my favorites. The Paella without fail is the star, while Onion soup, Grilled chicken and Sausage all best choices!!! They do have a nice menu with allot of fish, shrimp, clams and mussels choices. Mussels were good but were not a fan of the baked clams and grilled Calamari. Kids can be happy with traditional l tenders, fries, and pasta choices. The Sangria was very good, they did also have so authentic wine choices. Waiting for food was a bit long although the service was good with bread and drinks.  Having used a restaurant.com deal thought it was a tremendous value overall read more

The customer service is "on-point" and well versed. - with regards to the menu. The Portugués wine has a better blend of flavors. We had the Friday special, Portuguese Octopus, which had a mix of vegetables and potatoes incorporated into the dish but nothing on the dish overpowered anything else. Highly recommended. read more

This was my first time going to a Portuguese restaurant, and I found this place on Restaurant.com. When we found the place, I was a bit worried, it was on the corner of the street, with only street parking from what I saw. We walked in the front door, and it was a bar. I was a bit put off by that, but once we walked past the chairs we found a waiter who brought us to a much fancier part of the restaurant. (I'm still not sure how the two fit together, especially with a sports game in the dining room, but okay!) We ordered the Lobster in a Parsley Sauce for about $19 and the Seafood Combination in a Tomato Sauce for $20. When they brought out the food, I was shocked. It was huge bowl, which a baby could probably take a bath in. There was so much food! It was enough to bring home and have for 2 more meals.Don't get me wrong, it was Delicious! The parsley sauce was creamy and the lobster was great. Other than the peculiar bar/fine dining atmosphere, I really enjoyed myself. It was great food at a great place. Absolutely dissapointed. Placed an order for 8 trays of food to be picked up at 7pm. I Arrived there 6:55pm. I was told food would be right out. I only got my food 40 minutes later . When you have a party to get back to and now your 40 minutes or more late is unacceptable. If your restaurant is running behind schedule especially 40 minutes, a courtesy call to your customers is the right thing to do.
