Wow. What a find. First of all, the decor is beautiful: open spaces, super clean with plenty of seating. Service is smart and friendly. Everything we ordered was exceptional. We shared the cold dip sampler (taramasalata, babaganoush, tzatziki) and crispy eggplant and zucchini chips. Highly recommend both...the picky eater at the table (who literally eats no vegetables) couldn't stop eating the chips. Rave reviews of the Alaskan halibut and the pork chop. I had the Rocca avocado salad with grilled chicken. Again-excellent! Dessert? Chocolate mousse and custard - I tasted both and loved each option. The mousse was somehow rich, dark...yet "light" at the same time. The custard was warm and had a thin layer of phyllo dough with a drizzle of honey sauce. Our last visit was quite disappointing. We were a group of five, and unfortunately, the service didn't meet our expectations. The cocktail drinks took a long time to arrive, and they arrived after the appetizers--and were incorrect, so we had to send them back. The main dishes took another hour to be served. I have pictures with timestamps showing the delay, with over an hour between the appetizers and the main courses. During this time, we asked for extra bread and clarification, but the servers seemed unsure and kept pointing at each other, which was frustrating. Later, a manager explained that the delay was due to our ordering moussaka, but if the kitchen was overwhelmed, they could have let us know. We're reasonable guests, but their explanations felt lacking. Overall, the service was quite poor. To make matters worse, they added a 20% gratuity charge--something we usually tip pretty well even though service is too bad to tip. But I don't expect to tip 20％ to this horrible service. We really enjoy the food here, but unfortunately, due to the experience, we don't think we'll be returning. read more

Came in for dinner on an early Friday evening. Love the decor and ambience of the place - the staff was also friendly so I had high hopes for the food. We started out strong with the crusty bread and feta spread (complimentary), but moving on from there everything was just mediocre. The spanakopita was tasty and I like the bigger chunks of spinach and feta, but the phyllo was soggy. The fried eggplant/zucchini crisp were fried well, but the seasoning wasn't distributed well. Some pieces were heavily seasoned and others were bland. The sauce was just ok, and for the price the portion was small compared to other Greek restaurants. We ordered a whole sea bass with lots of sides ( Horta, Orzo, and Greek Fries). The fish came out looking pretty promising, and it was fresh, but was sorely overcooked. For the price charged, and for a Greek restaurant, I expected the fish to be on point. While studded with capers, the fish was also under seasoned so you were forced to use the weak beurre blanc. I would have much preferred some good olive oil, salt, and herbs. The orzo in tomato sauce was tasty but tasted like an Italian dish. The Greek fries came out and to our surprise had no feta on it. I've personally never had Greek fries that came without feta. They were more Belgium styled fries, dusted with oregano and other dried herbs. It was fine, but just not Greek fries. The Horta was fresh but like the appetizer, the seasoning wasn't well distributed. There were pockets with lots of salt and while other bites landed bland. We walked out with a $170 check, ordering one beer and soda. For that kind of price, the food was not up to par with upscale Greek places. In short, Plori is just really overpriced mid Greek style food. I much rather hit up Astoria for some good Greek cuisine, or go down the street to Tasty Greek for some kebabs. Yes, the ambience was nice, but the price is just outrageous for what we had. PS the valet is also a scam. We tipped the man and he simply handed us our car keys and had us pick up our own car. Why do valet in a small lot if you're not going to valet my car? So odd, but I guess it's on brand with the restaurant. Lots of show, poor execution. read more

Disappointing experience--severe lack of allergy safety and professionalism We chose this restaurant for a family birthday brunch based on its high reviews, but the service we received was deeply concerning. One member of our party has a severe food allergy. When ordering, we explicitly requested that his protein be plated separately from the side dishes to prevent cross-contamination. Our server was condescending from the start, and when the entrees arrived, the allergy request had been completely ignored. When we politely asked for the dish to be remade safely, the waiter stated, "I can bring it back, but you will be charged for the first entree and the second one as well." He then argued with us, adding that "the customer is not always right." Charging a guest twice to correct a kitchen error regarding medical safety is unacceptable. To make matters worse, the manager witnessed this entire exchange and actively ignored it. When we confronted him upon leaving, he refused to apologize or take accountability. We will absolutely not be returning. A restaurant that treats food safety as an inconvenience and insults its guests does not deserve our business. read more

I was very excited to eat here with my friends but was immediately concerned when the restaurant was completely empty and we were the only party there on a sunday 7:30 pm. The appetizers were delicious along with the drinks but we ordered a tuna tartare and the tuna was dark, expired, and clearly not fresh. Serving expired raw fish is extremely alarming and raised concerns for the food safety of the rest of our meal. additionally we were asked if we want it redone and said no, yet the waiter brought out another tuna tartare which we sent back and felt terrible to waste food like that- but again we did not want nor ask for it. we felt monitored throughout the dinner with the waiter constantly coming over to our table which we would of liked to enjoy each others company more. would not come back read more

Amazing service from Bella. 2 lunch menus- prix fixe or straight menu. 2 of us had the Lavraki- grilled whole loup de Mar. I had mine whole well done crunchy with lemon potato side. It was absolutely fabulous. A white un fishy fish. Capers on top. The other was a filet but still delicious My choice of appetizer was the Greek salad which was perfect. The best dressing and nice size slab of feta cheese The others had salads with either salmon or chicken. Also Plori chips which were excellent. I visited here for a girls night with a larger group (7-8 ladies) and we were obsessed with how chic the inside of the restaurant was! Most of us hadn't been to the establishment since it became Plori, and only knew it as the Italian place! The staff was so sweet and accommodating and brought us to our table immediately - a nice quiet corner. We decided to go for a full on tapas style meal by ordering all their apps and only a couple mains and desserts. The highlights for me were the octopus - cooked SO perfectly, it's a must try!!! The Plori crisps, reminiscent of the ones from Kyma - so so so good!! The sauce on the side balanced it out SO perfectly! Their breads and dips were top notch as well! But the star of the show was their signature dessert - a Greek napoleon of sorts which had raspberry and crunchy bits - absolutely insane and out of this world!!!! While they did forget a couple of our items, and we had to remind them, it was overall a great experience, the only real con for me was the cost - it was definitely on the pricier side and portions were smaller than what we were paying for! I was really unimpressed with this restaurant. We get there and they pressure you to valet when there is nowhere else to park but they did let my husband park our car himself. I just don't get what the restaurant gets from being pushy about valet. The woman greeter was very nice and courteous. But the waiters were awkward and seemed unhappy. We asked a few times about an opentable voucher we had and they kept acting awkward and said they would get the manager but never did until the end of the meal when we asked yet again. The manager was nice and normal and gave us no issues, but the waiters were awkward. They also didn't fill our water glasses often or all the way. We were drinking tap water. Was it because they weren't making money? They certainly came over a few times asking if we wanted more drinks. And seemed to be in a hurry to turn over our table and get us out of there when the restaurant wasn't even half full. I get wanting to be responsive, but other restaurants are good at doing that while conveying that there is no rush. The complimentary bread was very good and served with a red pepper feta spread that was flavorful. The hummus was good but only came with 6 pieces of pita and was a small portion. When my husband asked for more bread they gave us more of the complimentary bread and not the pita, and charged us $3 extra for it without telling us it would be extra. I asked for a mocktail virgin mojito and they put lecee in it without confirming that's what I wanted and charged us $14 for it. They said the fish would be filleted but my husband and I found bones. It comes with lemon potatoes and we only got 3 small potatoes. The fish and potatoes were good quality but it came with a lemon sauce that was good, but strange/unique in that it didn't seem to be olive oil based. The octopus was mediocre and rubbery. The olive oil was very sparse or nonexistent on the sea bass and hummus which is very strange for a Greek place, maybe another way to save money. The tables and chairs are basic wooden ones and they have no cushions or way to make them more comfortable. The owner was there all dressed up like a used car salesman. I just got the impression that they were all about nickel and diming guests, and didn't care at all about the quality of the food or the comfort of guests. It's always nice to go to a restaurant where they take pride in those things, and not just having a nicely decorated pretentious looking restaurant. read more

Located steps away from Roosevelt Field Mall, you can't miss this chi restaurant with its meditation seaside vibe. The outside with its mostly front is elegant and inside you will be treated to gorgeous decor and a vibrant atmosphere. I promise you, throughout your meal and between welcome authentic bites, you will find yourself marveling at the decor and beautiful staff. My party enjoyed a variety of dishes off the menu. Would give this 0 stars if possible. We came for brunch around 1:00 yesterday. We had a horrible experience with our server who was unprofessional and very rude. We were there for a birthday which was ruined by the server's behavior. One of us had asked for a dish to have the side and the protein separated into 2 dishes. He wasn't trying to be difficult - just needed both to be separated. The server gave attitude when we asked him to bring it back and get a new one. He told us that he would have to charge us even though we told him it needed to be separated when ordering. The manager on duty was not helpful either. He did not resolve the situation even after we told him what had happened. The server also told us that customer is not always right during this whole thing. You would think he would be nicer to the people paying him tips. Both need to be disciplined and need additional training on how to treat customers!! Will not be coming back. read more

My wife and I wanted to celebrate her promotion and we're feeling something different and something Mediterranean. Enter Plori - an evening of pure delight that started with a warm greeting from the owner himself as we walked in the door. He sat us and just made us feel right at home as if we've been regulars for years. He recommended a delicious Spanish white wine and we indulged in the Octopus with Fava bean purée (my wife asked for some more on the side and they did not hesitate!) the lamb meatballs in what I can only describe as a delicious balance of marinara and yogurt. All while enjoying the red pepper feta dip. For the main event we enjoyed Seafood Yiouvetsi with its succulent shrimp and scallops. Great pairing for the wine! We were there on the last night of restaurant week and two of us ordered from that menu, but they regularly have a special menu for dinner ordered before 6:30 P.M. in addition to an a la carte menu. Plori is on the north side of Old Country Road a few blocks east of the Meadowbrook Parkway. It used to be Formaggio, then Spasso (both Italian) before that, has valet parking, a fresh clean look surrounded by windows, wooden tables without table cloths, close tables (without feeling too crowded), and reservations are recommended. It's Greek cuisine (mostly fish and seafood). That said this butcher's son ordered their double pork chops with an amazing fig and wine souce, served over a bed of mashed sweet potatoes for my entreé. While I ordered it well done, it wasn't the least bit dry. When a charming senior citizen, who was either an owner or manager, stopped by to see how we were doing, and I complimented the pork chops, he introduced himself as "Fonda" and explained that he orders the pork from a special farm, even though it costs him more, because of their quality, but I'm also saving some kudos for the chef and the recipe. My son ordered mixed seafood over orzo in a tomato sauce (from the a la carte menu) and enjoyed it. To the purists, I apologize for not telling you all the Greek names on the menu for these dishes, and know that those who just find them confusing will forgive me. My wife tried the branzino and was disappointed that it was a small and skinny cut that she literally had to peel off the skin and bones to salvage its morsels, so most of her entreé was just lemon potatoes. She also started with the "traditional Greek salad," which is like other Greek salads, except there was no lettuce, but it was fine. So was my appetizer which was two quarter-sized meatballs served with biscotti-sized toast, raw red onion, and a sauce we thought tasted like ketchup. My son had the lemon chicken soup that was thick and creamy ... just okay. We split two desserts, the cheese cake and the walnut cake. We loved the walnut cake, but the portion was so small, we brought it to Fonda's attention, and he immediately ordered our server to give us another one to go. It was our first time there and we'll be back, not only because we enjoyed it, but also because we suspect the experience might improve without the possible constraint of a restaurant week menu. read more

We decided to try out Plori, a new Greek restaurant in Carle Place, for an early New Years Eve dinner. Plori's staff was very friendly, and our server Freddy was attentive and pleasant without being overbearing. The owner came over to say hello and the valet parking guy was smiling and said Happy New Year to us too. Fantastic way to kick off the new year! The early NYE dinner seating was $125 price fixe for 4 courses including a glass of champagne and gratuity. Since Plori is a relatively pricey establishment the price fixe was a good deal. The room was sparsely filled when we arrived at 5:45, but more people arrived for the later seating (which included music and hats) as we were leaving. The spacious dining room is decorated in light woods, with pretty yellow and white balloons adorning the tables to celebrate the holiday. Nice vibe overall. We were pleasantly surprised that the included champagne toast was a generous pour filled to the brim. Opa! Toasted garlic breads with Greek dips went very well with the drinks. The price fixe menu was extensive and portions were ample. I chose the octopus with gigante beans starter, succulent and delicious. Hubby's grilled calamari app was served cold with greens and white dressing, he said it was good but different from the usual preparation. Branzino entree was a large whole fish filleted and grilled over charcoal, served up with a side of horta greens. Loved it. My glass of Santorini Assyrika white wine was mellow and smooth, perfect accompaniment to the fish. Included dessert of loukoumades (fried Greek dough balls with honey) and fig ice cream was superb and a delicious way to end dinner. We're very happy that Plori is now on the Long Island restaurant scene, a great alternative to other established Greek eateries located on the north shore. Came in Saturday afternoon for the restaurant week two-course prix fixe. Fantastic experience. Sat in the sun-drenched windowed patio area. You can sense the care and thoughtfulness they've put in to all of the decor and the food. Appreciated the guest WiFi too. Appetizers -- fried calamari and spanokopita were both great. The flakiness of the breading and sauces were very memorable. Entrees - Lavraki (branzino) and eggplant were excellent. Lemon olive oil sauce was a tasty complement to the perfectly cooked fish with its crispy skin.
