Came for the lunch specials. I got the gyro pita with French fries. All their lunch specials come with your choice of lentil or chicken and lemon soup which is nice. I opted for the lentil soup. They started us off with complimentary pita and tzatziki dipping sauce. The sauce was so yummy and very fresh. I actually took the rest of the leftovers home and used it for a few days in a variety of dishes I made. The soup was okay. My grandma got the lemon and chicken soup and it was very lemony and salty. Our food was taking a bit of time considering we were the only ones in the restaurant, I think the server was distracted by wrapping the utensils for tables. She came to take our finished soups. And the food finally came out, huge portions. My gyro was covered with lettuce cuts but not the freshest lettuce. The server was kind of slow for only have two tables. The ambience was nice. My parents wanted to take me to this Greek spot they'd been to a few times, so one of the times I was in town, we went. We ordered a lot and the portions are generous, so we had plenty of leftovers. The staff were kind and the standout dishes for me were their appetizers: the octopus appetizer and the crab cakes. Both were delicious and I highly recommend. I feel like sometimes I find the way restaurants cook octopus lacking, but I really loved the way they did it. Crab cakes were similarly so good. Four stars because some of the entrees didn't wow me as much (e.g., the moussaka, pasticcio platter) and the soups that were sides were solid but nothing I'd go out of the way. Opa grille needs improvement. The decor is run down and it's dark. The service is attentive. Portion sizes are big and there are many choices for sides that are included. The menu is varied. The traditional avgolemono soup is too thick. The bechemel sauce in the pastichio is piled on top instead of being throughout the dish. The moussaka was good but the eggplant was tasteless. Come hungry and be prepared to leave very full and very satisfied. Every entree comes with a choice of soup or salad. I opted for the Horitaki Salad and this turned out to be no side salad. This was a full sized salad and very tasty. For my main course I ordered the meat platter which came with a Greek Sausage, Gyro meat, and two extremely large skewers of delicious pork souvlaki. The tzatziki sauce was loaded with garlic--a positive trait for me. Our server was so friendly and helpful. The only hiccup was that they do not flame the Saganaki table side but it was still delicious. Looking back, if I knew the salad and main were so large, I could have skipped this appetizer. Tried this for dinner last night for the first time based on a good review on the Tri-State Restaurant Club on Facebook. Our starter salads were large and tasty especially the Greek dressing. Tzatziki with pita was very watery. Hubby liked his lamb chops and shrimp entree with yellow rice. My branzino (which was supposed to be just deboned with oil and lemon) came out with some kind of garlicky tomato sauce. I told the server i don't eat garlic or onions. So I returned it and ordered stuffed shrimp with crab meat instead. Out comes pale flounder with spinach and feta something i didn't even order. I never order flounder out. I said to the server "maybe it's a good idea to write down the orders on a pad". So basically I had salad and a side order of steamed spinach for dinner. Everything about this restaurant gets five stars will start with plenty of parking .when you come in that you greeted right at the door the waitress takes your order pretty quickly. I have only had chicken Greek salads here, but they have always been great, as has the service. Today they gave me some extra pita bread. One extra pepper and one extra grape leaf/rice piece would be great. (I received one of each.) The food was amazing!!! I have craved a Gyro for about two years considering I've been on a strict diet. Since I'm on a strict diet, I literally just got a plate full of Gyro meat, bacon, feta cheese, and tzatziki. And it did not disappoint!! The Gyro meat was so juicy and tender. The bacon was extra yummy and tastes like it had a hickory smoked flavor (my favorite). The feta tasted so fresh. And the tzatziki.... Sometimes this is the thing that will kill a Gyro for me when not done right, but it was amazing! I cannot wait to go back. And our waitress Sheila was very helpful and sweet. Too bad she's only there on Sundays. Speaking of Sundays, quite a few Gyro places are closed on Sundays and this one is open. We have been to Opa Grill many times over the years and never were disappointed in the food and the service. My daughter was there about a month ago and told me that the food was good but the service was beyond horrible. Her husband doesn't t want to go back. I went yesterday with friends and couldn't t believe how bad the service was. We waited very long and when we did get our meal the soup bowl was dripping over to the saucer. The food wasn't t bad but there was a different waiter than before. There was a lovely woman in the past but now it s a unkept guy who was terrible. We requested where to be seated and we're accommodated quickly. The serveur was patient as we reviewed the menu and asked a lot of questions. We had the cold appetizer sampler with hummus , grape leaves, and spicy feta. They all were well made the spicy feta actually has a little kick to it usually other ones I have had didn't. We also had the fried cheese they served it a bit different then I'm used too ; it was fully melted down and in a lemon juice already on top still tasted good but I prefer when it's served on a hot skillet on finite and I squeeze my own Lemon on it. A decent amount of tables scattered about as well as a beautiful bar area with some seating, perfect for grabbing a little ouzo. We sat in the back left room made up of only a few tables which gives off an ever so slight secluded feeling, one that's nice as OG would teeter somewhere close to the "Loud" selection on your Yelp check in. Plenty of Greek delicacies available on the menu. From gyros and souvlaki to moussaka and pasticcio and so much in between. To start, your table will be donned with a basket of pita bread and a generous bowl of tzatziki. It's fresh and you can easily fill up on it, but don't! There's more tastiness to come! Usually I go for the spinach pie platter (or spanakopita for my Greek friends). You'll get a huge salad and a choice of side along with a hefty piece of spinach/feta love. But with the holidays upon us, I went for a smaller portion of food. Gyro with lamb and beef and a side salad. A perfectly sized gyro with tender, juicy meat and a fresh Greek salad. It even had a stuffed grape leaf on the side. Nice addition. What top things off (beyond the reasonable price to food portion ratio) is the service. 2 Strikes and youre out. Not goingto spend our hard earned money for a 3rd strike. 1st time the lamb chops were ordered well done, and stressed they had to be well done. When they arrived, the juice on them was bloody, i didnt even have to cut into them to know they were rare. Where was the miscommunication? They had to take them back and cook them more. 2nd time (last night) I ordered the pork souvlaki pita sandwich. First mistake was when it arrived there was no tzatziki in the pita. I let the waitress know and she stated tzatziki does not come with the sandwich, and I can use the one that was served with the bread basket. On the menu it clearly states the sandwiches come with tzatziki. Why would I use the tzatziki sauce that comes with the bread basket that the whole table was dipping into? She asked if i wanted "extra" tzatziki. I said no, I want the sauce that was supposed to come with my pita sandwich. She brought it over without anymore back and forth. To make matters worse, the pork was inedible. I could barely cut through it, let alone chew it. Each piece I put in my mouth had to be spit out. My husband, who will eat ANYTHING, couldn't even chew through it. We are Greek, and know a decent souvlaki. Told the waitress and she offered a chicken souvlaki. I didnt want a chicken souvlaki, I wanted a pork souvlaki in a GREEK restaurant. When paying for the check, the waitress packed two "fresh" souvlakia. What does that even mean, I was served old ones? Of course no manager to be found during Sunday night dinner at 7pm. This restaurant wouldnt last a day in Astoria or Bayside. They survive because the majority of their clientele is not Greek, but we are and this is NOT good Greek food. FYI, calamari should not be perfectly round, skinny, and chewy rings. read more
