Obsessed with this place! Our first time having Cafe Silvium was takeout for my birthday dinner during quarantine. We ordered arancini, rigatoni gnact gnact and ossobuco- it was all great, but nothing compares to the atmosphere they have created in the restaurant. Once indoor dining opened in CT this was our first stop. It is a pretty small restaurant, with outdoor seating and an indoor porch so it is best to make a reservation (pre-covid times it would take weeks to get a reservation). It feels like dining in a family members kitchen, super comfortable atmosphere and the staff is AWESOME! Order a cabernet while browsing the menu, my favorites are: stuffed mushrooms & fettuccini al marscapone with a chicken cutlet. Post dinner limoncello is a must as well as tiramisu. Cannot say enough good things about this place, being worth a train ride in from NYC should say enough. read more

I found the food to be adequate. It was actually quite good. The service and the owner or at least one of the owners were seriously rude. Portion of my meal was very small as well. Clams were however very fresh I just got like a thimble's worth of pasta. For that price sorry that's not gonna cut it. We arrived early and it was just rudeness from minute one as if we were annoying them. I didn't get it. I also lived in Italy for a while and find northeast US Italian cuisine to be mostly mediocre. We came to CT for the weekend and came here Friday after finding it on Yelp. The food and service were top notch! My husband had one bite of the Caesar Salad and said "I know this is just a Caesar salad but I can tell the food is going to be so good." We ordered the burrata appetizer with prosciutto, a Caesar salad and a side of meatballs because we were dying to try them. The server was so accommodating and brought us the meatballs even though they weren't on the menu. We ordered the Homemade Fettucini with meat sauce and the short rib special! Everything was so fresh and amazing. 100% would recommend this place! They even poured us huge glasses of wine while we waited outside for our table to be ready. I know Cafe Silvium is a loved institution in Stamford, but have been here 2 times and still not impressed. I love that it's bustling and exciting and the service is great, but we are also here for the food. To be honest, I don't remember the food at all from the first visit. When we were there with a group over the weekend we were seated right away on the enclosed patio. Service was great and the menu has a lot to choose from. My favorite appetizer was the roasted red peppers and white anchovies which was amazing if you like anchovies. The fried calamari was good. My entree was black linguine with scallops. The scallops should have been seared to give them more flavor and color, but they were bland and over cooked. The linguine has little taste and one of my table mates agreed. Here creamy pasta dish was great though. The worst part of the night was when they brought out the entrees and one was a white fish which no one at the table ordered. We told them the order was for salmon. The waiter came over and said "I repeated the order to you which was cod (or some other fish other than salmon) and you said yes". The entire table in unison said you did not. My wife gets salmon almost every time and orders it well done which is what she ordered. Desserts were OK. Will not be back. read more

We tried several times to get in here several times, once on a Thursday and once on a Friday and figured out pretty quickly that it's nearly impossible without a reservation, even on a weekday. So finally made a reservation for a Tuesday evening and got to try it! I was surprised how packed and loud it was, even on weekday. This is a very cute place and you can tell it's a pretty authentic and fresh menu. They definitely have a lot of loyal fans so they must be doing something right. We were treated very well so no issues with that. However, I was not blown away and I wonder if I am missing something. Don't get me wrong, the food is good. I got the Fettuccine al Mascarpone which seems to be one of the more popular dishes but I found it to be pretty bland. Pasta is fresh and well-cooked but the flavors were really not all that exciting, pretty standard. The other members in my group felt the same way about their meals, no one was really floored. I'd say that the portions are pretty generous for the price but I've had better pasta elsewhere for sure. It is hands down, my favorite Italian restaurant in town with it's flavorful dishes and home made pasta. It gets very busy and reservations are limited to large groups on weekends. Parking isn't so great but we park in the lot near Tomato Tomato without any issues and walk over. The prices for the dishes and portion are great even after post COIVD inflation. This restaurant makes fresh pasta on premises so I definitely wanted a pasta dish so I ordered the pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage and asked for less sausage since I don't really like too much and he ordered a pasta dish, but I don't remember which one. it was some type of pasta with a meat sauce very simple. People were filing in quickly and soon it got pretty loud in there. Seems like a lot of regulars go there is a lot of hugging going on to the staff. I was really impressed by our server's (Elli/Elly-sorry if I misspelled it) attentiveness and impeccable customer service. The bread and olive oil (on the house) was good however the bread was really cold. We shared the fried artichoke which was okay. My partner liked his Shrimp Cavatellini and Limoncello sorbet. I was not impressed with my Branzino dish or Creme Brulee (curdled and watery). This restaurant is always packed and bustling so the noise level might not be ideal for a date lunch/dinner. This restaurant brings the Italian. It's got a menu chock full of dishes that you just go "oh that sounds good" on nearly every line. Salmon with asparagus risotto? That sounds good. And you know what? Oh it was more than just good. A big piece of tasty salmon not dried out but cooked through. And then a nice portion of risotto with tender pieces of asparagus. Yum! My experience at Cafe Silvium was a good one. It's a small restaurant, so there was a small wait, but they offered wine while you wait, and who doesn't love wine while you wait? Though the space was seemingly cramped, it didn't feel like that. The space felt bright and open thanks to windows on all sides. The service was good, with recommendations as needed. We shared the gnact gnact with burrata on top, and the osso buco. The occo buco sat on top of rice and diced vegetables, and was nothing to write home about. The meat was tender as anything, but generally there was a lack of salt and flavor. That was not the case with the hand-made cavatelli with the vodka sauce and other flavors of the gnact gnact--prosciutto, pancetta, sausage, the triple powered meat flavor, and vodka sauce, all coming together as one. So, the food was good. It's among the better Italian I have had in this area, but still up against my home cooked Italian, which I find to always taste better (smaller portions make for more attention to detail). What a test it was to dine at cafe silvium. Pro tip - they will take reservations if you call! We didn't know that, so my friend and i waited for about 10 minutes before getting a lovey table outside. The restaurant isn't in the best location but the service made up for the random fireworks going off at the house next to us. We started with the complimentary bread shite white beans, wow such a differentiator from other Italian restaurants! We had the fried baby artichokes which were OK, and plentiful. I would order for a table of 4-5 people, not just two. We then shared two pastas (that they split in half ... as they did everything we shared!) and a veal dish. We got the lobster ravioli and the black linguini with scallops. Wow wow wow! Both were outstanding but the black linguini really stole the show. The sauce was creamy and delicious and the lobster ravioli had just enough lobster to bring me back to Maine :) it was served in a vodka sauce, so of course it was wonderful and over the top. For a main dish we had a special, the scallopini alla Sorrentino. It was veal topped with eggplant, prosciutto, mozzarella, and a white wine sauce. It was my favorite dish by far! Although we split it into two dishes, it was still a lot of food. And we had so many leftovers! I cannot wait to return to cafe silvium the next time I'm in the area! The food is good but I honestly think that people overhyped this place a lot! The food is fresh and this place is a solid choice with no complaints I can pick out. But I wouldn't put this place in my top 5 favorite Italian restaurants. To elaborate, there are some restaurants where I cannot get enough of the vodka pasta or garlic oil sauce dip cuz the food is so addicting, or I am ready to lick the plate for additional pesto sauce. This wasn't one of those places, but I did push myself to finish my entire meal, which is impressive. They get so busy that even on a random weeknight night you may be unable to get a seat unless you have a reservation. I tried the Rigatoni Ract Ract and the lasagne and the pasta portion was very generous for the price ($22). The service can be hit or miss as they get very slammed so that is one downside. They also forgot my Birthday which my husband mentioned and called during the reservation so I was quite disappointed. Very great experience. The chef knows what he/she is doing. It is Italian food that is not from your typical family Italian Restaurant, but the portions are generous. The veal chop stuffed with Prosciutto and Gorgonzola was excellent.Their desserts are very divine and are from a five-star establishment anywhere from the West Coast to the East Coast.
