Looked on Yelp for a bakery that was open at night for a little snack. This place was open and looked interesting. The awning said espresso, Italian pastries and something else I can't remember. I was very ready for something fabulous. Guess what? Nope Not fabulous or even close to fabulous. First off, it's a teeny tiny place, claustrophobic even. There is an icecream freezer on wheels that the guy has to move so you can walk by to look at the pastries. Wait did I say pastries? No, I didn't mean that. There were a couple of sad cannoli and a weird thing that said brownie something or other. There were strawberry and apricot bars. The guy behind the counter was not friendly at all. I'm thinking we should have gotten an ice cream and called it a day. But of course I decided to be adventurous and ordered an apricot bar and a brownie thing. Bad decision but you already guessed that! So to sum it up, if you are walking around town and want a little snack, get ice cream from here or keep walking to the cool little supermarket and get yourselves some caramel bacon popcorn! read more

The best ice cream in town! If you want a good treat come here. the waffle cones are the best i've ever had. There are always new flavors that are made in house. The cherry, Mexican chocolate, cappuccino and horchata are some of my faves. There are great dairy free options too. All of the staff are so sweet and the price is just right. There are tables just outside or benches near by to enjoy it. The cafe is open pretty late and is somewhere I love to take friends. Cafe San Marco is a fitting coffee shop for Calistoga, home of Villa Ca'Toga, a replica of a Venetian estate. In hindsight, I should've dropped by here first for some much-needed liquid sustenance for the hourlong walk in the 90 degree heat. The cafe has lost much of its Italianate/Venetian theme, and while service was fast, its friendliness was meh. The cafe has become slightly crowded, disorganized&dirty. They've added ice cream to their offerings that looked simply OK. I had an iced coffee with cream. It was mediocre. It fueled my drive back, but Cafe San Marco's coffee is mediocre at best, since Calistoga has superior offerings. It's not a cafe for relaxing&chilling. There's no room for it. I'm so glad they stay open compared to all the other cafes had closed. We had enjoyed the shopping so much in downtown that we needed some refueling. I had the latte which was smooth and perfectly made. The pumpkin mini loaf was so yummy, as if it was homemade like my mom's. read more

When I walked in, there was no one at the counter and I waited over 5 minutes before some one came to help me. The (worker) man wasn't friendly, and the coffee was not good to me, I ordered a soy vanilla latte and it tasted horrible. Let's start this review by assuming this place will get 5 stars. I'll provide justification for how this place lost 4 of its 5 stars below: I did a bunch of Yelping for iced coffee in Calistoga and settled on San Marco Cafe because they actually had "iced coffee" on the menu. Should be a safe bet, right? WRONG. The iced coffee tasted like the aftertaste of a cigar. I had to force it down. Minus 1 star. The guy behind the counter was busy attending to something else behind the counter, and while he looked at us when we walked in, I didn't actually think he worked with customers. (I figured he worked in the back or something.) I had to ask if he was the person to order with. Minus 1 star. Two sips in I discovered some sort of red, chewy, slimy something that ended up in my mouth through the straw (wasn't part of the straw). I'm not sure how it got there, given there was supposed to be all of 2 ingredients in my beverage - coffee and ice. Minus 1 star. Throw in the fact they have a surchage of $0.50 for using a credit card. Just bad form. Minus 1 star. And that's how you go from 5 stars to 1! read more

I'm basing my review on San Marco Cafe in their old location. I must admin I'm a bit biased as the place is owned and operated by friends of my family. That said, this is the place where i first tried biscotti as a kid. I moved away before they moved and for whatever reason I have stopped in since moving back. Back in the day the service was impeccable and the food matched. One of the owners has since passed away and the last I heard, the other owner had moved to Hawaii. I don't know how the place has fared since then but hopefully it hasn't lost it's greatness. read more

Yes there are other coffee places in Calistoga and other restaurants. But let's say it's Sunday and you're walking up and down Lincoln Ave and you want some ice cream. This is virtually the only place like it. There's not a big variety but they mix things up pretty well, like making shakes or scoops in a cup. They have sorbet, like raspberry sorbet. Thre was a pretty good crowd when we went there and I didn't hear any complaints. I'll try to post some photos as these will be worth more than my words. read more

Very slow service I orders single ice cone (this not the place to get ice cream, go down street:). I needed a place to chill before set set and plug in my laptop. I am giving them 5 stars since they were open on Christmas. They saved me from having a grumpy husband.... If he didn't have his morning caffeine....and for me to have a baked goody to eat on Christmas morning. The whole town was shut down... Except for this coffee shop. Thank you for being open!!! I stumbled upon this lovely modest cafe when I was passing through Calistoga one evening. My boyfriend and I were in the mood for some dessert. We had their wonderful flan. It was absolutely delicious! I spoke to the owner and she told me how she had taken over the shop six months ago. I only tried Iced Coffee so I cannot say anything about desserts. 1. Store - I tried this store even though it had 3.5 rating because it was only store opened on yelp selling coffee at that time. This had to be a joke and I should have left the store the moment I walked in. The store was tended by a pre-teen kid and his friend. The kids had a call on speaker phone and the kid on the phone was using vulgar languages. I ignored it because it should not have reflected the quality of food sold here but sigh...... The store is very small but the desserts selections did not appear appealing except ice cream section. 2. Iced Coffee - NASTY at best. The kid used OLD and STALE coffee over ice to make iced coffee. I literally had to dump it after two sips. I had to take second sip because needed caffeine. I thought about asking for a refund but like I said, there was only a pre-teen kid watching the store and I did not want to argue with a kid. if you have to satisfy your caffeine needs at later hour, please stop by Cal Mart(?) and get your self a better coffee. read more

I should have gotten some sort of caffeine here, but I didn't. I was on my way to an early, early dinner (4:00PM to be exact) when I walked past some 4-5 people outside holding ice cream cones. Usually, I wouldn't give ice cream, or any other dessert a second glance - don't get me wrong, it's not because I don't like it, or don't appreciate it, but for my waist's sake, I try to be good. The restaurant I had intended to try this night was not open yet, so I walked back - decided I would kill some time at the coffee place two storefronts down. The space is small, really, really small. You can maybe sit 3-4 people comfortable at the front end of the shop, their knees might even touch. For the most part, Calistoga is not an over populated city, so a very narrow path to the register/ice cream counter suffices. There were 2 other individuals ahead of me, and with each order, we had to re-position ourselves to let the other by. Appearances aside, there's a display of various desserts, and the ice cream counter - I decided on the Son of Killer brownie, and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. You can get ice cream anywhere, and for the most part is usually decent, so my 2 stars isn't for the ice cream. It's the brownie that I must tell you about. It's too sweet. I'm a sweets person, I can eat bars, and bars of chocolate in one sitting if there were no repercussions for doing it, but this was just too much. I mean I can even eat two HUGE slices of some sort of chocolate cake and want more desserts... but this... this doesn't even come close. Look at my review for a place called The Dessert Diner in Sacramento, and you'll understand. This slice of brownie about an inch wide, and 6-7 inches long... TOO much of whatever it was. I can't even tell you. I guess it could be good, but really, I did not like it, and regretted getting it after. It wasn't dry, no, but sweet... yes, too much so. I might have to come back sometime and try something else, because it really isn't fair to rate two stars for the two items I had. I guess if you really wanted to have a sweets overload... to the point where you might even consider doing away with sweets, this might be a good choice. Otherwise, I'll continue on my search for good desserts in the area. read more

They have a selection of about 10 ice cream flavors, an assortment of pastries, sodas, etc. But the real hidden gem here is their Italian Sodas. At 2.50 or 3.50, it gives you the bang for your buck. I reccomend getting their pineapple-orange Italian Soda. I Don't reccomend getting a watermelon-French vanilla Italian soda, though. The French Vanilla overpowered the Watermelon, but they were really nice about it, and asked if I would like more watermelon syrup. read more

hardly a cafe. this small little shop sold your average pastries like different fruit scones, different fruit muffins, danishes etc. and they were low on stock at like 930AM! they also sold what looked like fancy gourmet looking desserts in another case that no one seemed to buy either. then they sold ice cream. i dunno but to me it was a bit random. i didnt even try their coffee. and they shouldnt call it a cafe if there is no place to sit, literally no tables or chairs cuz the space was so small. read more

best espresso in the napa valley. i write this review as i am enjoying a perfect oatmeal raisin cookie, fresh baked on the premises, obviously their WiFi, & a small soy chai latte dirty, made by the lovely sinai, that is sheer perfection. my first encounter with their wonderful espresso - graffeo done right - was when the italian/venetian couple owned it. the wife was a stickler for high quality products & components of products - the best baking chocolate at almost any cost & so forth. under their ownership, the current baker - also at-least part-owner (i'm not a diligently snoopy sort) - was selected & promoted. i used to drop in occasionally on my way to the movies in SR & was always impressed. i now live in calistoga & get to walk here 4+ times a week - rotating between the drink mentioned, single shot & small dry soy cappuccino. by the way, the soy is thankfully NOT vanilla-flavored. i highly recommend their apricot bar. a friend did not like one of their lemon products - not zesty enough for her. i love chocolate, but tend to want to eat it straight up rather than in any baked good & so am not in a position to comment about much else. i delight in occasionally sponsoring a reluctant stranger/customer to a single shot of espresso in a for-here-cup (surprise surprise, i don't like the taste of styrofoam, paper or plastic). without exception one can see the gears shifting as the at-least-temporarily-happy individual forever recalibrates their assessment of a single shot of espresso & what they should expect of the next one they have. read more
