Mel’s Petit Café - La Nutella

Mel’s Petit Café

Disclaimer that I haven't had a full meal at Mel's Petit Café...yet! This charming little eatery is…read moreacross from my dentist's office, so I typically stop in for coffee and a pastry after my appointments. There aren't a lot of tables or chairs, but thanks to large windows and beautiful blue walls, the space feels bright and inviting regardless. Foodwise, the café's specialty is definitely crepes, which take up the most space on their chalkboard menu. There are also a handful of sandwich options. One day, I promise I'll enjoy one of these delectable-looking treats...but given that I'm enjoying holiday treats left and right at the moment, I didn't indulge in either today. Drinkwise, Mel's Petit Café serves up some darn good coffee. Today I got the cookie butter latte special. Their recipe called for oat milk, which was an absolutely delicious choice. And the latte definitely hit the right balance of added flavor and coffee flavor for me; it was an excellent way to re-caffeinate before continuing with my day. I also got a muffin to take home for later - Mel's Petit Café serves mixed berry muffins, all of which are made with blueberries and raspberries. And these are GOOD muffins. These aren't the muffins that only have two bites of fruit total; I've had half of mine and it is FULL of berries. Absolutely delicious and I'll probably order one of these to go every time I visit from now on. Add in a team that's all smiles and does an excellent job keeping things moving, and this place is a 10/10 (well, 5/5 on Yelp). I cannot recommend it enough and I'm already excited to stop by again!

I like it. Crepes are underrepresented as a breakfast lunch option and they offer a good…read moreselection. Environment is comfortable for meeting and lingering. Only complain was that my last visit was an hour before clossing and they were out of regular drip coffee. So the option given was to buy an "Americano". This is made by adding water to expresso. My issue is that is cost $7 for a large compared to $ for a large coffee. And they did not skimp on the water. :(. They should at least have a policy of substitution at the same price when the regular coffee (which I thought was good during past visits) is out of stock.

The barista was very friendly and I absolutely love the Pittsburgh YINZ decor with all the slang. Definitely would come back again! That's good because it was colder than a witch's hoo-ha outside. After spending a lot of time al fresco at Randyland, I think I was breathing icicles by the time I saw this corner cafe, one of a local chain named for what Pittsburgh residents call themselves. It was a welcome sight because I needed something to warm myself before my final walk to the parking garage. Housed in a vintage brick building, it was a cavernous space with tall ceilings and fortunately open tables. I ordered the $4.50 Large 20-oz Cafe au Lait because I needed the extra fuel to get me through the frosty weather (Photo 9). They have Yinz merch for sale and the last of their baked goods. Oh well, I didn't need the extra calories anyway. COFFEE - 4 stars...piping hot the way I needed it AMBIANCE - 4 stars...a lot of space to spread out SERVICE - 4 stars...quite efficient TOTAL - 4 stars...I'm not a Yinz but they served me anyway RELATED - Exploring Pittsburgh? Bartram House Bakery - Eggs Benedict

Bartram House Bakery

Despite being somewhat pricey, Bartram's is nearly the perfect breakfast spot…read more As of this review, I have eaten at least a dozen breakfast burritos from this location over the last two years. I have tried all the different meats, vegetables, and cheeses and have never experienced a change in quality. The one issue is the variability in terms of portions. On one visit, you might get a monster burrito that you would happily pay $15 for and the next time you might get one that does not even seem to be worth $5; the actual cost is around $12. The service is impressive! Everyone is friendly and I seldom have issues with the accuracy of my order. Also, the inside of the building is very clean. The location is not old, but they do a good job of always having a top-notch presentation from an aesthetic standpoint. It is not cheap, but nothing is these days. If you get the monster burrito, you get great value. If you do not, then you might come away thinking you overpaid. On a scale of 1-5: Food - 4 Service - 5 Price - 3

It wasn't boxed as box lunches the way you order it. 12 orders of fruit sides were put into 6 boxes so if someone took a whole box, someone else didn't have a side. No plates or napkins, nor anyplace to order them. The food, very good. It was a big hit, so very disappointing that I'll have to think twice about using them again - not for the food but because I can't be sure we'll have everything we need for lunch. The boxes the wraps came in were beautiful, small fruit cups would have fit in alongside a wrap nicely with silverware and a napkin. Just a suggestion for the business.
