For sushi there is no other option in the area, as far as I'm concerned. We have tried two other places, which received fairly good reviews and we won't be going back to either of them. We tried a place not far from Sado. We were the only people in the restaurant. I guess that should have been a red flag. Part of our order was wrong. Being the only people there you would think they would get it right. And, it was more expensive than Sado. The other place we tried is in Easton. It was okay, but the sushi was not as good as Sado. I agree that the service isn't always that great at Sado, as far as waiters returning to the table. We have had to flag ours down on occasions. But, as far as sushi goes, it's Cafe Sado all the way. Maybe it was just an off night. We got there 55 minutes before closing time and walked past two small groups in the process of being told that the bar was closed. No problem for us, we headed upstairs and discovered it would be just us and another big group on the other side of the dining room. We each ordered a Sapporo and decided to share the pork belly sliders. I had hoped for crispy pork, it wasn't, but they were tasty. At this point, our visit went off the rails. I ordered the lemongrass soup and the Thai seafood bouillabaisse, my wife ordered egg rolls and the miso glazed sea bass. After a short time, the entrees arrived prior to the appetizers and, for me, no side of rice or spoon. The sea bass was subpar, overcooked and decidedly not fresh. The miso was drizzled, not glazed, and the accompanying mango shrimp (two pieces) was cloyingly sweet. Ouch! My dish was simply the establishments stock panning red curry with a seafood medley thrown in. It tasted fine, just not what I expected. When our server was apprised of the appetizer bonk, he sent the person who dropped the main course to the kitchen to retrieve the missing items. When she got to our table, she explained that "the entrees came up first". Oh boy. The egg rolls were greasy, we should have known better. The soup was great as usual. The dinner included dessert, and we both selected the mango Creme Brûlée. In keeping with the night's theme, we were eventually informed that there was only one remaining Creme Brûlée. The substitute chocolate cake proved to be the high point of the evening, a truly happy accident. We paid the check and beat a hasty retreat. I would go back for the lemongrass soup, but certainly not the service. The quality of the sea bass makes my wonder about the sushi. Yikes. It seamed that the staff was more concerned with closing down and going home than taking care of us as customer. (Note: This review was at first mistakenly posted to the Cafe Sado in Chestertown. This place has to have the worst service in the entire eastern shore. I asked the server if I could change my meal selection to from one dish to another. He brought out both meals and argued with me that I ordered both. Everyone at the table heard what I said, he had the audacity to question me. Who orders two entrees? Not only did he get an attitude, he didn't visit us again until we needed the check. This guy made the mediocre food a much worse experience. He then added the gratuity, and gave more attitude and argued that it shouldn't be taken off. This establishment should be ashamed of themselves for employing this person. Not to mention he let us sit 45 mins to take our drink order and an hour to get our food. read more

Cafe Sado is hands down the best sushi restaurant around. The service is very personable and friendly. The atmosphere and decor are great, including the great view from the marina. Cafe Sado is just one of those restaurants that you root for to make it. It's tucked away off the beaten path by the Queen's Landing neighborhood, but it is definitely worth seeking out for its sushi. Sado's sushi really cannot be praised enough. All of the rolls are well executed, and the specialty rolls are extra tasty. Sado has the best volcano roll I have ever had. Hands down. It offers an ongoing buy one- get one deals on rolls all the time, so you really feel like you're stealing high quality sushi. You almost walk out feeling guilty. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and the views by the water are great. The wait staff is attentive and friendly, and the seating set up allows you to watch as your rolls are prepared. The sushi is ok, but the others are bad. Not authentic at all. First, no real Japanese restaurant owned by a Japanese will sell both Japanese food and Thai food together, because the philosophy behind these two cuisines are very different!! One love the original taste of the food itself, another adore various kinds of spices. Not to mention neither Cafesado's Japanese or Thai food is good. Service is always slow and full of mistakes too. I think it still exists because there is no competition in this area and most people in this island are not asian either. We were at the Chesapeake Bay WIne Festival on Sunday, and my husband overheard someone mention sushi, and not being from the area, asked where they were going, and they said Cafe Sado! I really want to continue loving this place but the service is so bad that it outweighs the usually great food. Last night we waited 30 minutes for 2 rolls. And two tables who sat after us were served first, plus the table next to us was paying a bill and they were handled first; unacceptable. My husband said the food wasn't as good as it usually is, which the one spicy roll we ordered was a bit mushy and flavorless. The other roll was very good in my opinion, but I may have just been starving and was happy to eat. The place wasn't packed at all so you couldn't blame that on the slow service. I am kind of a regular at Cafe Sado. They have excellent sushi, especially their special rolls. The decor is very pleasant, and the dining area is open and comfortable. The service is not always the quickest, but the staff is generally friendly. The ongoing sushi special is a great bargain also. I have attended a few private parties here also, and they did an excellent job of providing food and drink. I would say it is an excellent venue for functions like this, or even just lunch or dinner. read more

Sushi was ok. I would give a higher rating but... I went here by recommendation for the by one get one of equal or lesser value. I ordered 4 roles. Two were $12 and two were $6 expecting that they total to $18 but no they charged for the two 12 and took off the two 6. When I asked the said the take off the lowest value roles. This is disappointing because I like order a variety of roles which range in price and makes this deal not as good as hoped. read more

Years ago we loved Sado. Then the quality and service went downhill. Last couple of trips have been better so seem to be improving.

A disappointing trip considering the reviews here... Pros: Seated quickly after arriving, even on a busy Saturday night. Shrimp tempura appetizer was delicious. Panang curry was spectacular - great creamy sauce, fantastic spice level, just great all around. Cons: Everything else. Really. - The restaurant is loud. Very, very loud. Conversations carry easily, and the music from the bar downstairs travels as well. - Seated at our (still sopping wet) table for 15 minutes before the waiter stopped by to ask if we wanted to order. We would have been, if we had ever been handed menus... - After handing us our menus, the waiter waited about 45 seconds before asking if we were ready to order. - Appetizer came out of the kitchen and waited on a counter no more than 3 feet from our table for about 5 minutes before being served. - Pad Thai was among the worst I've had. Bland bland bland. - Waiter didn't stop by to ask how dinner was. I ended up flagging down the bus boy for some lime wedges in an attempt to salvage the Pad Thai. - Drink refills seemed like a chore, even for just water. Had to ask multiple times for additional water. - Asked for the bill, and waited another 10 minutes to get that I won't be going back. If you're coming from the shore, it's worth the extra 15 minute drive to Annapolis for some decent Thai food. read more

A month after my last review I went back to Sado only to be served a big plate of green curry chicken complete with big hunks of still raw, still cold, still pink chicken. I told my waiter and he said he wouldn't take it from our bill and he could recoil it but that the kitchen was closed so I couldn't order anything else. Minutes later my sister but into her pad Thai and there was more raw chicken in that. Same story. Can't take it off of the bill but we can put it back in the pan and cook it longer. This will be my last visit to Sado. I just hope I don't her salmonella. read more

This place was horrible. The Thai food was laughable. The sushi is 1/2 off, however, they only give you 1/2 a portion. So, if you are paying $12 for 1/2 a roll and get another 1/2 roll free.......you are just getting 1 roll. It's like they are trying to trick everyone. Server couldnt speak a lick of English, it took forever to get any drinks correct even a titos and water. The edamame was enough sodium for one week. The sushi at this sushi bar tasted freshly frozen and old. Some of the sushi was dry in the middle turning hard, must have been last weeks pick. We love the food at Cafe Sado! Everything we have tried has been delicious. I will mention on two separate occasions we have had a server who is in la la land. She leaves dirty plates on the table- no pre bussing, she didn't refill our drinks, and is over all a bit disconnected. She is polite but not attentive. read more

A 16-mile bay bridge backup meant that our trip home from Ocean City was going to take at least an hour or two longer. We were tired and hungry, but not so desperate that we were content to pull off to the nearest Royal Farms to make a dinner out of snacks. Using our handy dandy Yelp app, we found that Cafe Sado was only six miles from the stand-still traffic and would keep us near 50 to easily jump back on our route home. We were a little confused when we pulled up because there was a sign for an Inn and we couldn't see the Sado sign in the dark, but it's the right place! When you walk in, there's a small room with a bar to your right. Keep going up the stairs and there's the hostess stand. We received excellent service; both the server and the hostess were not only adorable, but friendly and prompt as well. The sushi came right away and was tasty and fresh. Some of the other reviews implied that the buy one get one sushi is for lunch only, but nope- it's all the time and it is awesome! One of our rolls did come out wrong, but our waitress was quick to correct the mistake. The rolls aren't huge, but bigger is not always better. Maybe order one more than you typically would when considering the specialty rolls. This was a fresh and delicious meal- we might have to make it a regular stop on the way back to Baltimore from OC! read more

If you like loud (think screaming babies and constant banging dishes), amateur hour service (think one out of two entrees arriving before appetizers and the other entree arriving 30 minutes later), this is your place. Used to be decent but now seems like there is absolutely no one in charge that cares one iota about customer service and the fact that people like me will illuminate this stuff online. We moved to the shore last year. Assuming there were no good sushi places on the shore we quit looking. Until we found Sado. The Sushi here is excellent. It is better than anything I had in Baltimore, and could compete with some sushi I've had in Japan. It is well prepared and very well priced relative to what I have paid in the past. Every roll and sushi-mi we have ordered has been presented well and delicious. If I did have a few constructive criticism points for Sabo, and the only reason they didn't get 5 stars from me would be: 1. Get new menus, your menus are old and stained. First time I was there I was very skeptical when handed the menu. But delighted once the food came. 2. Some of the wait staff needs training. Some questions we asked we got blank stares with one waiter. Other waiters were spot on. Bottom line, if you are in the Kent Island area and gotta have some good sushi this is your spot. read more

We hadn't visited the restaurant in years; now I remember why. We decided to give it a go, have a drink and some sushi etc. We were seated promptly, the place was less than half full. We ordered cocktails and an appetizer. My preferred cocktail, an extra-dry gin martini, was too sweet; I sent it back. Even though the place was far from full at this hour (6 PM), the drinks took a while. Our waiter asked us if we wanted an appetizer--we had ordered one 10 minutes previously. While we waited for the appetizer we decided to forego dinner. The appetizer arrived, it was ok, nothing to rave about. The waiter was inattentive, the place was noisy, the doorway (we noticed on the way out) grimy with fingerprints. I'm usually pretty forgiving, but this place was pathetic. Never again. read more

We had a nice kid-free dinner last night. My boyfriend suggested we go to Cafe Sado because we hadn't had sushi in awhile. The atmosphere in the restaurant is really cool. Even though it was pretty busy when we went, it didn't feel chaotic. We ordered a few rolls of sushi and I didn't know about the buy one get one roll, so I was really appreciative that our server told us. She was wonderful! She was super attentive and sweet. Great service is something I LOVE and we definitely got that here. Our meal came out promptly and tasted amazing.
