The reviews here are pretty mixed and I can see why. I visited on a Sunday after hanging out in the area earlier in the day. The inside is nicely decorated and seemed pretty clean. There were quite a few people enjoying dinner by the time we got there - you can tell it must be a local favorite. I heard that this place does a special on sushi where if you order a certain number of rolls, you get one free (I think it was BOGO or maybe buy two get one free??) Pretty solid deal. Everything was tasting pretty good up until I began chewing something hard. Crab shell? No. It was a small piece of plastic. Super weird. I guess they must have not been careful when removing the fish from whatever packaging they received it in and it got tossed into the sushi roll somehow. Wish I could provide more detail but I was too bewildered to write down the names of the rolls and I lost my appetite after that. read more

This place was a little hard to find. It is in a neighborhood and next to a pub next to a marina dock. I am kind of basic when it comes to Thai food. More often than not I typically order the fried tofu appetizer and pad Thai, which is what I did here. The fried tofu was great. The dipping sauce was a sweet chili sauce with a bunch of peanut bits on top. So it was perfect. The duck with the pad Thai was a little over done for my taste but it was not oily. The pad Thai tasted just like it should. Was a great experience. I do want to try a few other things in the menu. I heard from coworkers that the sushi is great and I saw a mango glazed sea bass that is calling my name. I am going to go back! read more

Usually we have a pretty good meal here, but there's been a time or two items felt off. I'm not sure why it's inconsistent, but the last experience left my sister and I slightly unsettled. We love sushi, and previously had good sushi from here; however, when we ordered a few weeks ago, it definitely didn't taste fresh. There was a strong fish smell, and it also smelled of a sour/ ammonia scent as well. Taste was also off, only 1 piece was tried, and was spit out, and thrown. I'd like to hope this was a 1 time fluke, as other times we've had great meals. My husband and I used to go more often, but neither my sister and I nor my husband and I have been back since the last time. I suspect we'll try it once more before completely shying away. My family loves the beef in oyster sauce. The service is great, quick, and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is clean, and parking is easy! Let it be known right now that before I write this review, it is worth noting my brother loves to get sushi from here, which is a really good thing because he hates sushi and he will not eat sushi from any other establishment (this place is just that good!) When I moved to Kent Island roughly eleven years ago, one place that kids would not stop talking about, was Cafe Sado. At first I had no idea what Cafe Sado was until learning it was a Sushi restaurant. Of course, my mother and brother were not fans of sushi so during my Middle and HS year's (up until Senior year) I never had a chance to go to Cafe Sado (especially since I didn't know where it was and I only found the location when I looked up a YT video of someone driving there haha). Fast forward to my senior year of HS, my brother was open to trying this sushi place as he heard so many good things about it, so one day during the summer before our Senior year of HS, we decided to go. I remember I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and I enjoyed it!! It was yummy! My brother, who doesn't like sushi at all got a Volcano roll and he was hooked since then! Even my family loves this place and a majority of my family WILL NOT eat sushi from any other restaurant except Cafe Sado! Also worth mentioning that the menu at Cafe Sado is massive; whether you're ordering sushi or something else from the menu like a Kobe Beef Burger (which is also really scrumptious!) Cafe Sado's food is delicious and worth your time and money. Speaking of money, the prices at this establishment are fantastic! I am a very big fan of sushi and one of my biggest complaints about buying sushi is the prices, of the sushi is too cheap it usually isn't very good nor fresh, if it is the exact opposite it is rather expensive. Thankfully, Cafe Sado is not only fresh and tasty but also VERY CHEAP! Especially if you dine in because those that dine in can receive one free roll of sushi free if they buy one sushi roll of equal or lesser value! You can spend roughly $20 at this place and get enough sushi to feed at least a table of 4 and I love it! Not to mention, if you have room for dessert, I recommend the fried ice cream it is so tasty and the portion is huge! Circling back to dinning in, while the take out is also a great option, I highly recommend you dine in if you can because the atmosphere, and interior design of the restaurant is soothing, calm and fashionable. Whenever I'm inside Cafe Sado dining whether it be with friends or family I always feel this sense of calm and content with the world. On top of that, the staff are very friendly and amazing service is provided. Of course, if you happen to go during a time when it is busy, the wait time is not very long. Out of the many times I went, the only time I had to wait for a table, I was only waiting for 15 minutes! I could go on forever about all the amazing things Cage Sado has to offer, but to sum it all up at the end of this review, I highly recommend this establishment. This is one of the best local food joints on Kent Island. If you like sushi then you need to try this place out and if you aren't a fan of sushi or you are a first time sushi consumer you should definitely try this place it! read more

This place is a hidden gem. Drive on over the bay bridge and go to a town called Chester. Park outside walk up the steps and in you go. You are greeted and seated. Waitress comes over and give you menus and takes your drink order. Here is the best part all the sushi is buy one get one free. Yes I took full advantage of this I ate sushi a ton of sushi. To drive from DC across the Bay Bridge to eat at Cafe Sado must mean we REALLY love the food....or just that we had to celebrate a family member's birthday who lived closer to here than they did to DC. I am sad to say that the food quality is just not authentic enough. Their pad thai portion albeit was cheap (less than $12) came out in an appetizer portion. Further, I almost ALWAYS get a "Spicy rack" tray at thai places which has 4 different spices including chili oil with fish sauces etc. When I asked for this our waiter looked at me like I was crazy and then the eager 18 year old high school student hostess who was just trying to be helpful asked if I meant to ask for the "salt and pepper." Um, no, I was looking for actual thai spices, oh well. I guess this is what happens when you are in this part of town, you encounter restaurants that claim to be asian but cater to a crowd that doesn't really know what authentic food is. read more

First off the big sign outside of the restaurant parking lot is misleading. The only indication that we were at the right place is the small sign on the front of restaurant. My friend and I came here for lunch. Reading other Yelp reviews every one enjoyed their sushi! The decor inside was pretty nice ! We were seated at a booth that looks out towards the boats :) I got the Harmony roll and shrimp tempura roll (they advertised buy one get one free rolls when you dine in ) I also decided to try the Duck ramen ( even though I read in reviews it's not that great) Sushi came out first. Appearance wise the sushi looked delicious ! Both of my rolls tasted really good. I was pleased. Then the Ramen came out and was disappointed. There was so little for what I was paying and it just looked like they used just ramen noodles and some chicken broth. Atleast there was a bunch of shredded duck but the ramen just tasted like a mild chicken noodle soup. After we ate there was confusion. They put us on one check and determined that my friends rolls were free since they were cheaper than my rolls ( she also got two rolls on the premise of buy one get one free). We then asked our waiter to fix the checks (she would pay for my tempura rolls to make it even) but they messed it up again by charging one of her rolls on my checks. The third time they finally figured out what we wanted to do and we paid. So advice for the future : make sure you indicate if you are splitting/separating the checks so the waiters don't get super confused and just order the sushi. The ramen was not worth what I paid. Took Grandson for his first sushi experience. Been up & down Rt. 50 a thousand times and never knew about Cafe Sado. Ordered edamame, miso soup, and a seaweed salad for starters. All deemed excellent. California roll x2, Volcano roll, Shrimp tempura roll, and Rainbow roll for a variety to try. Volcano roll was the hit, but all were excellent. I ate here last week after New Year's. All the place is nice and the restaurant is decorated well, there are a lot of people that go here for sushi. I was here mostly for the Thai cuisine. I ordered the Thai bouillabaisse and when it came, took quite a while it was mostly a little seafood in a curry dish. My friend ordered tofu and spinach and said it was just OK. My main concern was the service, the waiter who was a Thai gentleman was very hard to find most of the dinner. It took 10 minutes to get a glass of water and when he took our water he seem very nonchalant and didn't write anything down but I asked us to repeat it a second time for everything we ordered. Parentheses maybe you should write down on the ad, just a thought. Lol again he was not that attentive and I would not recommend him, nor tip him well. However the highlight was the young lady that brought the dishes from the kitchen and served us our food, she was delightful pleasant and friendly. I wish she was our waitress I would've tipped her way too much because she provided that kind of service, however I felt I was tipping the waiter who disappeared for 30 minutes at a time and I had to wave them down to get a refill of water etc.... So all in all, the food was pretty good, although not fabulous but the service was a bit lacking I would love to see that improved. read more

Our favorite sushi restaurant was closed so we opted to try Cafe Sado nearby. The service was excellent, which is why I rated it 2 stars, but the food was subpar. This restaurant isn't Japanese. It's a Thai restaurant that has some Japanese offerings. - The calamari was crispy and light on the outside but hard on the inside. - Pad Thai was total mush and very sweet, I've never had Pad Thai this bad. - Ordered various sushi's. The quality of the nigiri was great, but the rice on the rolls were like mush. - Tonkatsu Ramen was not flavorful and strange. It had bells peppers in it? The "soft boiled" egg was extremely hard boiled. - Thai Paella was bland but the seafood itself was overly salty. It was so difficult to eat. Overall, this is a great place to eat if you're only getting nigiri. We tried a large variety of food and nothing was good. read more

Sado is my jam! This is my spot on the island; 9/10 if my family is going out to eat, it's at Sados. They have a great selection of sashimi, maki and nigiri from the sushi bar with some really brilliant and creative twists. All of their rolls are buy-one-get-one, all of the time, so you can really save quite a bit on a huge meal if you play it smart. My favorite is the Sado roll, which features salmon, avocado, green onion and mango. The kitchen is full service and has a wide variety of delicious appetizers, salads, and entrees covering everyone's tastes, from the kobe beef burger to spicy curries and on to your basic meat and rice dishes. I highly recommend the Asian Caesar salad--it's definitely one of my favorites. When the weather is warm, there's some great seating on the wrap-around porch that allows you to look over the marina and catch the sunset. Sado is open for lunch, but the menu is a bit more limited for options from the kitchen, however, they offer awesome specials like bento boxes. They also have a full bar downstairs with two large televisions. The service can be kind of cruddy, but I'm always okay to overlook that because I'm sure as snot driving across the bay bridge for my sushi fix. read more

I thought it was complimentary so I just poured out half the water and asked for a second (very mediocre) tea bag. Just bad. 3.50 for that little experiment. Watered down juices. Terrible Thai iced tea. Only get canned or bottled items. Btw there is a pub next to this place in the lower level. Staff is either grumpy canteen like old guys or very inexperienced teen girls. Cafe Sado is a fairly new restaurant in Chestertown, and as such it might be still figuring itself out. Overall I had a good experience. Their sushi tastes a bit dry, as if it might be premade and not made to order. There's also no physical sushi bar, so you can't watch it being made. Some may not care about whether you can watch the chefs create your rolls, but it certainly ensures that you know your fish is fresh. However, the prices for sushi are fairly good, and (at least for now) there's a buy one get one free deal for all sushi rolls, so it's always worth it to get 2 of each roll. The Thai food they serve is good, but not fantastic. I ate the chicken sate and the peanut sauce served with it was thick and very flavorful. My salmon entree was also huge and didn't taste dry or old. I'd recommend getting the Thai seafood lemongrass soup if you like spicy soups. The combo Thai meal was a great deal because you get an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert at a very reasonable price. Other reviewers had mentioned service being not so great. This was absolutely not the experience I had when I went. You definitely need reservations because this is the only sushi/Thai place in town. Even on a Tuesday evening it was packed. Oh my goodness, how I love Sushi. So when a close friend rang me up and told me that I needed to travel across the Bay Bridge to try this new Sushi place they had found in Chester, I said "OK". After 45 minutes in traffic and a $6.00 toll, this place better rock my socks off. What a cool joint, first of all it is really close to the water and seems to be located in an old house. The atmosphere inside is trendy yet very moderate. This is a place that the "outside does not match the inside". They have a pretty small wine list, and saki is available both hot and cold. They have a very large variety of food represented on the menu including some wild sushi combinations, along with some traditional Thai/Asian dishes. Tonight I am going for the Sushi, I started off with a few rolls including a Spider roll (battered soft-shell crab, cucumber, avocado, and I believe sprouts.). Next we had a California roll, spicy tuna roll, and a salmon avocado roll. Still craving more we moved on to the Volcano roll (crispy tuna roll with cucumber, and crab meat topped with a spicy sauce). The food was great, not awesome or the "best ever" but for a small town like Chester this place is a great find. I will frequent this place when I next visit the area. The sushi here is fantastic! The sushi chefs do a wonderful job here--and for buy one get one on sushi--all the time--how can you lose!? FIesta Roll and Phoenix Roll are my favorites! The service does leave a bit to the imagination--they're quick to get your order, but you don't see them again until your food is done, and good luck finding anyone when you're ready for your check--but with the sushi as the shining star, it's definitely worth your effort to make it out here. Was in town and ordered for pickup. I ordered the Mochi special with peanut brittle and strawberry reduction. When I got there they brought me a couple mochi in a bed of whipped cream. I told them I ordered the special, and that it also didnt mention coming with any cream because I cant have dairy. They told me the special was a one night thing that was over and it was an outdated menu. Wish that was communicated before they accepted my order, I drove over there and they charged me. After already waiting there I settled on plain mochi. When I got home I cut into one and it had ice cream inside. They had charged me for a special that didnt exist and then after coming and telling them I can't have dairy they failed to mention the plain mochi without whipped cream still have ice cream inside. Mochi are classically rice dough balls. Ive eaten countless mochi in my 30 years and theyve always been advertised as either "Mochi" and been plain dough balls or "Mochi ice cream" with the filling inside. Extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and feel duped into a purchase. $15 just to go home and throw it in the trash. read more

I met a friend at Cafe Sado for a working lunch. We both ordered the sushi combo with soup. The soup was fine. The sushi was fine. The roll that was supposed to come with the combi didn't show up until we asked for it. Twice. By that time they had cleared the plates with wasabi and our chop sticks. That took another round of requests and waiting. Our second order of sake never showed up but it sure did get on the bill. More requests and more waiting. Poor service can ruin good food. Three of six family members have celiac disease. We asked if a couple options were gluten free or could be prepared gluten free (including a basic steak and potatoes!). Heard the chef respond indignant that he was not wasting his time doing that. The food options in question could only have had gluten from standard soy sauce; it's literally as simple as using the bottle of "natural" (and naturally gluten free) soy sauce instead. My one kid was looking forward to sushi to celebrate a family holiday, and was quite upset when I told him we couldn't eat there because they wouldn't accommodate half the family. I'd understand if we asked to accommodate something like fried shrimp that would be almost impossible to make gluten free, but this was basic fare that usually is always gluten free - the indignation in the chef's voice that we would ask for such a small accommodation (on a slow weeknight) made it clear they don't value their customers. If you have any dietary restrictions in your family, look elsewhere! read more

This is a restaurant whose glory days are well in the past. Tonight's meal featured slow, inattentive service, hot and cold edamame that was heavily salted, an incomplete sushi order, and salmon roe that, had we eaten it, would have made us all sick. When we entered we were greeted by an empty host / hostess stand. A man in the kitchen walked by and ordered a waiter to seat us. Apparently the waiter never bothered to let the other waiters know that he had seated us so we waited ten full minutes before a waiter started to clear the table behind us. He acknowledged us with hands full of dirty plates from the table behind us. Adding to the charm and atmosphere he put the dirty plates of full of half-eaten food on the table next to us as he took our complete order. Classy. We received our drinks in a reasonable amount of time as well as our large order of edamame. The first thing we noticed was that it was heavily salted; we then noticed that the deeper we got into the dish, the colder the beans were. Obviously not a very good sign. Next, the bus boy helpfully refilled my iced tea with water even after I tried to tell him that I was drinking tea and not water. He graciously and apologetically brought me a refill of iced tea. When our sushi order came out the waiter set it on the table and marched off. He came back to refill another iced tea and I told him that we were missing part of our order. He said that he would go check. He came back a few minutes later with our order sheet and said that all that we were missing were two sea scallops -- I had to correct him and show him that he was reading the wrong line and that we had ordered two orders of salmon roe. He went off to get the order corrected and we dug into the sushi we were presented. The spicy tuna roll was an ordinary tuna roll that featured a dollop of rather ordinary siracha mayo on top. The tuna itself was not seasoned nor was it fresh. We didn't finish it. The other rolls we ordered, with the exception of a Dragon Roll, failed to live up to expectations. They were bland rolls featuring seafood of questionable quality and freshness. When the salmon roe was delivered to our table, my daughter caught a whiff of it and asked me to taste it. I picked up a single salmon egg and smelled it -- I was left with a slime trail on my finger that reeked of rotting fish. I called the waiter over and told him that the salmon roe was not fresh, that they shouldn't be serving it, and that if they weren't careful, they were going to make someone very sick. This is the second, and last, bad meal I have had at Sado. The entrees were never much to write home about but the sushi was competent. Now the standards have slipped so far that you are probably better off eating the fabled "gas-station sushi." I will not be back. It is a waste of time and money. read more
