Our first time here on a slow Wednesday afternoon so we were seated right away. Our waitress was very pleasant. The food portions were a bit small but delicious. Definitely needed more rice and veggies. Our cook was great, made our food perfect! Would be great if they served bean sprouts as well and an appetizer of shrimp or mushrooms. Please don't forget the "yum yum" sauce.... I can't emphasize enough how hard it is to find DECENT food on the eastern shore (especially from Queenstown to Salisbury - including Bridgeville, DE). I have found that the quality of service and food is horrid. So, back to the review - Plenty of parking in this small area of several different retail businesses. I decided I wanted some fresh food and I was happy that there was a $12 lunch special. It seemed like a really good deal. $12 lunch portion of Hibachi, fried rice, soup, and salad. A lot of food for $12. NOTE: You must request the complimentary soup and salad or they don't include it. I previously ate here and thought it was an off day so I decided to give it another try. Well, that is enough for me. InJapan, you ain't got to worry about me - you ain't got to worry about me NOT ever. The salad - I see why they don't give it to customers - it was brown! They really want to kill folks. Now...I really wasn't sure if I could trust the rest. The sushi - I ordered shrimp tempura sushi (not pictured) on a previous visit. It was cold - the shrimp is cooked so for the shrimp to be cold was odd, to say the least. The soup - was ok, but I had to ask them to add onions - isn't that standard in onion soup? The hibachi / noodles were ok. I ordered the chicken hibachi for $12 and added yakisoba noodles for $9. Expensive lunch but the portion is enough for two days. read more

We stopped in for lunch and it was really good. I had been there before with a friend for sushi, but this was the first time for my husband. We had a shrimp tempura roll and fried dumplings for appetizers and we each ordered a hibachi lunch. The salads were cold and fresh. Steak was tender and cooked perfectly along with mixed vegetables and rice. The food was delicious and plenty of leftovers for the next day. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Just left on a Sunday evening with my wife and 2 kids. Very pleased, service was great, kids absolutely loved the hibachi experience, the chef had them engaged the whole time. The Hibachi Salmon with white rice was tasty. The Salmon was well done. Not sure if that was what they were going for. We were not offered a choice of how we wanted our salmon prepared. We asked for Hibachi Salmon with Scallops. The scallops came on the side in the same sauce. ‍ I thought the scallops were slightly overcooked but she thought they were perfect. The rolls we tried were also tasty and the Mexican roll was amazing. We did not try the sushi. Service: I ordered takeout on a Friday night. They were busy but almost immediately asked me how they could help and the order was completed on time I didn't experience the ambiance as we didn't dine in. While waiting to be helped watched the one girl open people's carry out food and question why there weren't any vegetables with it and why someone would order it that way while the other girl said what the f*** and the other replied to check tickets while they were bagging wrong items for the carry out orders. one girl ignored us after asking how she could help us while the other young girl asked if she could help us and when asked again about how long for hibachi was told that their boss wanted them to worry about only reservations and that she couldn't give a time for a walk in cause they really weren't taking them. gave no other option for even placing a carry out or waiting til a table came open for 3 people! poor husband salted and plowed snow all week and was looking for a nice meal. read more

Came here for lunch cause I wanted something other than your basic food such as burgers and pizza..... ordered the Filet with scallops ... The soup that comes with your hibachi meal was blah... basically some broth with scallions in it ... the chef that our table had was very basic and boring and no umpph like the other chefs that the other tables had... He didn't even do the freaking choo choo train, no egg toss in the hat trick, no throwing food at people... was lucky we had one fire trick but that was it ... the food was oh..... this place only gave you the yellow yumm yumm sauce and not the other sauce other places give you.. the fried rice was ok.. the filet mignon... I think I shouldve ordered the regular steak... this guy overcooked it and it was not tender .. the scallops werent that cooked well either.. Great food, and of course with any hibachi you really for the experience as well! You can't go wrong with any of their hibachi choices (chicken and steak our my favorite) and all portions are generous. Dinner prices are a bit on the high end but lunch specials are very reasonable. Service is fine as drinks are refilled frequently. Parking and the indoor cleanliness are also not an issue. read more

Great food, good dining experience. Never really had a bad meal there and I have ate there often. Curbside pickup is hit or miss, sometimes they will allow it, sometimes not. only downside is they don't really take any precautions for covid at all, I even spoke with a manager once and asked about it and they had no interest in protecting customers that were/are immunocompromised/etc . This place is a JOKE!!! There customer service is deplorable! I called for a takeout order at 4pm today - sushi boat, plus 5 other special sushi, $140+. I asked if I could pick it up at 6:30, which would give them over 2 hours to prepare my order. I arrived at 6:30, paid for my order and was told it would be a few more minutes. 45 minutes later, I asked the hostess what was taking so long. She looked around for my order and found it on the upper counter. I had seen it there for a while, but thought it was for someone else, since she didn't call me. When I mentioned this, she said she didn't put it there! Folks in line and waiting were just as appalled as I was, some left. Give this place a BIG PASS! read more

My sister and I had lunch at this restaurant today. Our server was Sophie. We have dined at this restauant many times over the years. We both noticed the food was not as good as before. It was very bland and the miso soup only contained broth, no chunks of tofu. I asked Sophie if the restaurant had changed hands, because the quality of the food was not the same. She got very angry and kept asking me if I wanted to speak to the manager. She said she had worked there for 6 years,. strange, because I had never seen her before today. We have been going to In-Japan for years and have always been satisfied. This trip to the hibachi with a party of 5 was less than stellar. I am not sure if it was because of COVID-19, lack of staffing, or just an off evening. The chef "show" was pretty much nonexistent, other than taping on the metal cans a few time, it was just basically cooking in front of us. No dialog either. The food quality was good, but not great. The rice was a little undercooked and a bit on the crunchy side. I don't mind paying the inflated prices and leaving a good tip when you get the whole enthusiastic hibachi cooking experience, but it was not happening on this evening. I did notice that the other chefs, at other tables, also seemed to be going through the minimum motions. I would certainly give this location another chance, however, if I have a similar experience I will be looking for another hibachi in the area. read more

I've looked all around the mid shore area for a good sushi place, and so far this is the place for me! It's a hibachi restaurant which has a good selection of sushi and sashimi. I think my favorite thing though is one of their rolls, the Firecracker roll. The hibachi experience here is good, and I'd recommend the scallops if you like seafood hibachi. Nice size scallops and seared well. Always a good time with the hibachi chefs as they prepare the food. Service is good although sometimes it seems they may be a little short staffed. read more

To be honest it's hit or miss and the quality has absolutely steadily declined over the past five years. First -what you get for what you pay has just gradually gotten worse . Of course if I'm ordering filet I am prepared to pay but when I'm paying what they charge I expect to receive more than 8 chopped up steak bites and it better be cooked perfectly. It never is I cannot tell you how many times I always order medium but it never comes medium the funny thing is though sometimes it arrives rare and sometimes well done. The chicken quality has gone downhill as well.. very chewy lately. They never ever give you the brown ginger sauce anymore . Just the yum yum sauce and yes I love the yum yum sauce but I would prefer to have both like other Japanese places. They also don't give you the complimentary soup/salad sometimes unless you make it a point to ask..and half the time the lettuce is all brown and wilty. The gyoza are delicious and so is the lion king roll! And either way I will still keep coming back because ..let's be real there aren't that many options for Japanese. But I'm giving it two stars because If I'm paying this much I want an amazing meal and they just don't deliver the kind of quality and taste that they used to. The food was great, the service was great, however, the waitress Murphy became belligerent when she thought I didn't leave a tip, going as far as confronting me outside of the building in front of a lobby full of people and my date. I will say I partially created this situation by mistakenly taking the receipt showing the tip and I do Sympathize with her given the state of tip culture. But I do NOT appreciate how it was handled. I contacted the restaurant explaining my predicament and was met with a reasonable response. but, I'm still concerned with how far she or other staff is willing to go when they don't get their way. I haven't been to In Japan in a couple years because I had such a bad meal the only other time I ate there. I was invited to a birthday party, so I gave it another try. Well....The soup was just some chicken broth with scallions. The meal was okay but the service was terrible. Waitress dropped off the drinks, soup and salad and promptly disappeared. The chef started our main course and we had stacks of soup and salad plates just sitting on the table throughout the meal. She never came back to take them out of the way. I needed a sweetener for my tea and chopsticks, but still no waitress. Finally I went to the check in desk to get chopsticks but they didn't have any sweetener and said to ask my waitress. Good luck with that. I asked another waitress and she rudely gave me a sugar packet and a sweet and low. You know...the pink stuff. I asked for an equal or a Splenda and was informed that they didn't have anything else to offer. So it's the pink stuff or nothing. My friend asked what was the temperature of the grill and the chef sharply said HOT. Thanks for the information. That ended any chance for some friendly banter. No tossing of the shrimp. Not much of a show. It was disappointing. I don't know why the chef asked how we wanted our steaks cooked because no matter what we said, we all got medium. Fine...whatever. My friends started passing their dirty salad and soups to me since I was sitting on the end. I had a tower of dishes next to me for the entire meal. After the chef left our waitress finally showed up and I asked her to take the soup and salad plates but by this time she handed out the checks. We never got drink refills. Never asked if we wanted anything else. Just here's the check. I don't know what she was doing. It was busy but she was not the only waitress. The chef does all the food. She was only responsible for the drinks, soup and salad. We gave up on letting our waitress know that it was a birthday. That would have been just to much to expect. This is an expensive place to eat dinner with this kind of horrible service. I'm not going back but if you decide to give them a try....bring your own Splenda. read more

We ordered 2 filet mignon meals tonight 12/26/20. We received a chicken meal and a cut up steak/shrimp meal. What a deal for them! Always a good meal - whether dining in or take out. Kids love the hibachi and sushi. Lots of special attention if you sit up by the sushi chefs. Make a reservation on weekends. This place is my sons favorite restaurant so while visiting from California a group of us dined there. We sat at one of the large hibachi tables a little after 8pm so the Restaurant was not too busy on a Sunday evening. From the filet steak, shrimp to the chicken and monk fish we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The fried rice is superb and the grilled vegetables were cooked just right. To makes the food even more flavorful there were side dishes filled with a great sauce for dipping the various grilled items on our plates. Oh, as we began our dinner, The miso soup and salad hit the spot. Tucked away in the corner of an aging strip mall one might be hesitant to stop in, but the friendly service, nicely appointed dining room and one of the most entertaining table side chefs we've ever watched, made for a memorable evening. read more

The sushi was ok but nothing special. The service was terrible. I'm not sure how a restaurant survives when the servers don't actually serve. Our table had no place settings, and when the server finally brought some over she didn't bring enough for everyone at the table. At one point the server disappeared for over 30 minutes. We wanted to try dessert but I couldn't risk being trapped there until morning. But that's not the worst part. There were 2 servers and a host who had their long hair down and were touching food. The host was wearing sunglasses in the restaurant and one waiter was wearing his coat. I only mention this because this isn't cheap. If I'm spending a lot of money it would be nice to see staff that is presentable. This is a hard pass for me. read more

Recently went to In Japan because the food is really good. The consensus of our group afterwards was not a good one. Our hibachi chef was as rude as can be. What we requested to eat was not taken down properly, so he had to go back to the prep room to get the correct ingredients. Instead of being upset at the host, he took it out on performance, which is another reason I like going there. He did nothing except cook the food and leave. It's costly and not getting our money's worth is not acceptable. It's going to be awhile before the four of us go there again. read more

Stopped by a few weeks ago for hibachi. Our hibachi chef was a little moppy to be honest. Wasn't throwing around stuff very enthusiastically like the other chefs. Part of the experience from getting hibachi is that you want to enjoy the show. You know you wanna see some shrimp flying through the air. An onion volcano. But nope. He just cooked. Once he squirted some stuff on the grill and a little fire shot up.. wooo. We mentioned it to our waitress when she checked on us and she seemed offended. She asked if we wanted her manager.. Um that escalated quickly. No ma'am I don't want your manager. You asked and we gave an honest answer. Saving grace is the sushi. Would come again but would skip hibachi and just get sushi. Place has hibachi and sushi. It's Korean owned. Koreans know how to do sushi too but just throwing that out there. Ordered the spicy ramen only to find out its not authentic ramen, but actually packaged ones you buy at the Asian market. COMPLETELY disappointing. Tried the chicken hibachi lunch, chicken teriyaki lunch plate, and chicken yakisoba. They all tasted pretty much similar and the only thing that was different was the amount of flavoring in each dish. They only give you a small bit of meat and give you plenty of rice and veggies. The yakisoba was CRAZY salty and I had to mix white rice in there to tone down the saltiness. Their fried rice is the only thing that was decent. Sushi is also not very fresh and subpar. Only plus was that the server was friendly, fast, and attentative (forget her name but a decent looking young blonde). Bottom line, won't go back there. read more

Contrary to other review for this restaurant I found both the food and service to be great. My drink glass was never empty and plates were promptly cleared. The restaurant was very busy but I was seated promptly (I had a reservation). The chefs were just as skilled as the ones that work at Benihana, whereas other hibachi restaurant chefs usually won't match up. read more

Forget the old reviews, where they mention poor service. The training of the staff is significantly better than it used to be, and they never hacked for friendliness. The sushi is quite good, if not quite as good a U-Sushi, and the hibachi dinners are very good, and very filling. Make sure to ask for the meat (ginger) sauce, if you get steak. Miso soup was on my mind when we passed by this restaurant. I was under the weather and couldn't WAIT to get my hands on some plus a sushi bonus. (japanese cuisine is one of my favorite things to eat.. always) We park and go up to the door and.. it's closed.. bummer ... But WAIT.. it opens at 2:00 p.m.?! It was only 1:45. So we waited/walked around and entered at 2:02. The hostess/manager (?) greets us, seats us and returns to her conversation 2 booths over with what seemed to be a rep? friend? it doesn't matter.. she was obviously more important. We sit pondering the exciting items we're going to have for lunch. A server/busboy finished setting up a couple of tables near us... no greeting. The host/manager seats a group of 5 at a hibachi. Still no greeting?? Hubby is getting a little frustrated at this point and I just wanted my soup! (Oh yeah, did I mention that we TOLD the host/manager that we were in the business??)
