Everyone keeps telling me they love this place. I was not impressed with the sushi, but the atmosphere was great and so was the staff.

My boyfriend, daughter and I come here quite frequently. In fact, my 11 year old loves it! There is no children's menu so she used to get the Chicken Satay and now she's hooked on the Philadelphia roll. The sushi here is awesome and the wait staff is always friendly and super attentive. Never have I been in to the restaurant and the wait staff did not have a smile on their face. Everything is quick and presented well and who can beat buy one, get one roll free? Only complaint is its always packed! As long as I live on the island we will always come here. Keep up the good work! read more

This place is located in a area that doesn't really have too many food spots. Cafe Sados offers pretty good sushi (I don't really like sushi) for a unbeatable price (buy one, get one free is you dine in). The only downfall for this place is the service. Once in a while if you steer away from the sushi and try the other dishes (they have thai menu) they are sometimes inconsistent. Overall, Good sushi, poor service. read more

We just moved to Stevensville and decided to give this place a try. I hate giving it such a low rating, but the food was downright terrible. I ended up throwing all but a few bites of mine out. I ordered General Tso chicken and I was expecting the familiar fried dish with a slight variation as described on the menu. What I got was a bowl of soggy noodles with grilled chicken in a thick, almost soupy sauce. It tasted like a mixture of barbecue sauce and ketchup. I was super disappointed. It would have been easier to just throw money in the trash can. read more

Cafe Sado is great. The sushi here is fantastic. I'm a Kent Island resident but I've had sushi all over the world including Japan, and Sado ranks with the kind of high-end sushi place you would find in New York City or Tokyo, and for only a fraction of the price. The waterfront setting is beautiful, the sushi presentation is great, and the portions are large. The rolls are extremely creative and delicious.There's a trick to ordering off the buy-one-get-one-free sushi menu in that you should order all items of similar price since they always comp the less expensive. For example, if you got a $14.00 roll and a $4.00 piece of nigiri, only the nigiri is free. Get two rolls and two nigiri, and still, just the nigiri is free. The locals all get it, but it throws off some out-of-towners sometimes. My only complaint is that they close too early in the summer. We arrived last Friday night at 8:45 PM and the bar downstairs was already closed! They had also already started taking soy sauce off the tables etc. upstairs. We'd go a lot more often if they were open later. Did I mention Cafe Sado is great?! read more

I LOVE Cafe Sado! I can't understand for the life of me how the reviews can say they're overpriced. It's buy one roll get one free for god sakes!! You people are out of your damn minds!!! The service is fine! If you come in on a Friday or Saturday night during prime hours, what do you expect? Dinner in five minutes? I make it a point to eat there at least twice a month and have been doing so for over a year and gave NEVER experienced what some of the reviewers are complaining about. There's no way I've been lucky every time I've gone. I think some of you people should stick to dinner in Annapolis because you you're too full of yourself. This review centers on the sushi side of the house. Some of the other dishes are quite good (green curry chicken, for instance). We've frequented Café Sado since its opening, and were initially impressed with Tony's ingredients, preparation and pricing. In the last two years, however, the quality and service have steadily declined to where we now feel that it's worth the drive across the bridge for better sushi. For us, the staff is the biggest issue, followed by the freshness of the fish. For example, we placed a carryout order, had the call taker read back the order, and arrived to find that the order was wrong. Not a big deal, but then when the apologetic staff took the corrected order and 10 minutes transpired, the "correction" was wrong! While the staff is nice (barring a couple of the blasé waitstaff, this was unacceptable. As far as the sushi, the difficult items (unagi and ikura, for example) are seldom ideally fresh, and we've had better tuna at Ichiban. I think other reviewers are correct in assessing that this restaurant's glory days are over, which is a shame. If slightly above cafeteria-quality sushi is your thing, then you won't be disappointed. read more

I dont care for sushi period! But was pleasantly surprised by the Kobe steak burger,it is killer!! However the place needs to be CLEANED FROM HEAD TO TOE!! And reorganizing the entrance way would help.All in all a pretty nice place otherwise Oh and one thing I forgot,absolute terrible service...go for the burger ,trust me the burger is worth it read more

I normal really enjoy Cafe Sado however, last night's meal was terrible! The sushi rolls had stale rice so they fell apart and the coconut shrimp and crab wontons were not edible. You could smell the oil used and it obviously hadn't been changed out for a long time. The crab smelled so bad that it went right on the garbage. read more

While we used to be regulars at Cafe Sado, usually going 2 or 3 times a week, we now go maybe every other week. Perhaps because it is a slow time for restaurant business right now, but the grade of their fish has certainly gone down. We recently went and were sick from the fish all night long (simple tuna roll). Then we decided to give our used to be favorite restaurant another shot and when we smelled the sushi that was brought to us it REEKED! Word to the wise: fish is not supposed to smell like fish. Unfortunately, when we return to sado we will only be getting pad thai. Which is delicious there. Oh and ask for Donny or David when you go! They're the best waiters. read more

Go here! Sit at the bar and talk to some of the workers. They're great people, and they'll give it to you straight what's good at the restaurant. They eat the food at the restaurant and give excellent suggestions about what to try; I always love knowing what the staff like at a restaurant. I highly recommend the sushi. I just tried some of the standard rolls: spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, spicy scallop, and avacado, but they were fresh, quickly made, and tasty. Did I mention that the owner has been running a buy-one, get-one sushi roll deal for a long time now? Apparently instead of a happy hour, that's how the owner gets people in the door. Excellent idea. I agree with one of the previous reviews. I had been going to the restaurant for years and it was a strong 5 . It has gone downhill since they changed chefs and their service absolutely deplorable . I had a server take two salads away as we were talking and not paying attention to her. Until we realized . I went in on a Sunday at 8:00 pm. And my daughters wanted a couple other items at 8:20 ; the server told us that the chef would be angry if he ordered more items from the kitchen ??? Can you imagine ? My friends were there eating dinner and the staff was putting chairs up on the tables. Before people finished their meals . It is a shame but this restaurant could be great. Food. Has gone down. And service as I stated needs an overhaul . I gave it a two stars and it was being kind. I am a restaurant goer but am not demanding . Spend your money wisely. They need a lessen in customer service from from chick filet !!! read more

Disgusting. No other way to describe the joint. Gross. Do not bother going there unless you enyoy the flavor of 2 day old carry out food. The service was the worst and management did not seem to care after we complained several times. Our server forgot to place our sushi order, bring us water and check on us. After the table next to us left, the Windex the bus girl was using drifted and settled on our dining space. read more

Took the kids out for the day to Matapeake Beach and decided to meet some friends here for sushi. It was BOGO rolls (not sure if it was because of the time of day or if thats an all the time thing) so I was a little skeptical at first. The younger ones wanted something a little more normal and got the ramen bowl and chicken satay. Both of those were good and I give the sushi a so-so. The spider roll tasted very crabby (not in a good way) but the shrimp roll was pretty good. The friends that we met got several different rolls and said all of them were good. Prices were very reasonable and service was great. Would def try it again. read more

Use to come here all the time but recently I don't know what has happen, maybe lack of staff?? We came on a Sunday at 12 right when they opened. Not busy at all...my husband, 2yr old and 9mo old. Waiter came by to take our drink order and we said we were already ready to order our meals since we had time to look over menu. He said ok and bowed and walked away..meanwhile 2 tables seated after us had their drinks and put in their food orders....okayyyy, hope he comes back to our table. 10minutes go by....my toddler starts to get inpatient and then the baby starts to cry....15minutes go by, the tables around us are all getting their drinks... like really? Are we in the twilight here?? Next thing you know, our sushi order and entrees we were planning on ordering just seemed hours away since he Never came back to our table!! So we happen to pack up the family and left. Onlookers were staring because I'm sure it rubbed off on them that hey "that whole family is walking out and they have been here forever, wow SADO...just WOW." read more

Arrived an hour before their posted closing time. As I was right at the door, they turned off the entry lights and interior lights yet the door was open. They saw me coming and did this purposely. Is it really that hard to tell someone you're closing? I can only imagine what the service would have been like had I entered. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. They're NOTORIOUS for bad service but good sushi, but tonight topped the list. We were here for a birthday and myself, the birthday girl and her boyfriend waited an HOUR longer for our sushi than the other 5 people at our table because the waiter LEFT THE SHEET IN HJS BACK POCKET. Instead of just putting our sushi at the head of the line, we waited as if we just ordered. People at our table were paying before we got our food. Our waiter disappeared for 20-30 minutes at a time and we were left without water or other drinks. When we asked to speak to a manager and told her we just wanted to leave, she told us to "calm down" with hand gestures- even though no one was raising their voice. I've been in the service industry for 13 years and I've lived all over the country and I have never experienced anything like this. They didn't comp ANY food and still added gratuity to our check. This place has good sushi, but they treat their guests like absolute crap because they know they will get other tables seated, so one table of HORRIBLE service didn't even phase them. My husband and I absolutely love this place. We come at least twice a month when visiting the eastern shore. The prices are reasonable (all sushi is Buy one get one free) The only issue I have with this restaurant is they do not offer kid friendly food. It doesn't matter what we order for our kids they seem to just to add sauces, peppers and spices that are just not listed on the menu otherwise I would adjust my request. This last visit I ordered my kids a "big bowl of rice with chicken and broccoli" what we got was not a big bowl of peppers and onions, it hardly had any rice, two pieces of broccoli and lots of sauce. Of course my children didn't like it. We had to order plain rice for them to eat. What bothers me is the waiter didn't bother to tell us the extra items this plate had specially knowing the plate was for small children. For next time I know to just order my kids plain white rice and miso soup. read more

Excellent sushi with hints of Thai fusion. The presentation wins no awards, but the sushi and sashimi were tasty and fantastic value - the 2-for-1 deal was unexpected and one of the best value-adds I have come across in a sushi restaurant. One of the best meals I've had in quite some time. Sampled several of their sushi rolls and endulged in their beef wellington. Finished my meal with a strawberry tiramasu and red wine. Everything was delicious and the service was great. This was my first time here but it definitely won't be my last. I also enjoyed the environment in the restaurant. They have these web like walls in one section upstairs. It's hard to describe them but they were very unique and gave the place a lot of character. read more

In order to be true, the statement "Best Sushi on the Eastern Shore" must be modified to read "Occasionally Just Okay Sushi on Kent Island". After giving Café Sado multiple chances to get it right and bringing service issues to the management's attention, I've given up. I now suspect that your reviewers giving Café Sado high marks had something other than food quality, service and cleanliness in mind when writing their reviews. First and most importantly, when consumption of raw seafood is the major event on the menu, cleanliness, shelf life and proper storage are imperative. Based on my Café Sado experiences, there is compelling evidence that those good practices are not being consistently followed. While there are generally several sushi chefs preparing sushi at the bar yet all tuna sushi items I've been served look oxidized as if it had been prepared earlier in the day or that it was old or had been stored past its shelf time. I've no complaint on quantity, yet value is at least partly based on the assumption that food items are fresh and visually appealing. They are not. Service is spotty at best. I can't bring myself to blame the poor quality of service on the Café Sado wait staff, for poor service is a management issue and it is clear that the staff has never been trained properly. In closing, restrooms are a dead giveaway on the cleanliness issue. The bathrooms are simply filthy. A dining experience shouldn't end with the patron wondering if they may contract a food borne illness. read more

My wife and I could not wait to try Cafe Sado located near the Castle Harbor Marina in Chester, Md. It offers a different menu than the standard seafood found on Kent Island. Sushi is their specialty and we were told by friends that they do that well. We arrived with an expectation of a great dinner. The first floor of the restaurant offers a cozy, small bar area. We found it full of people enjoying themselves. Clearly, local patrons gather here and have a good time. When we climbed the staircase, we were met by a young lady who directed us to a table along a long row of window. We quickly opened the menu and discovered a full array of sushi including a list of Sado specials. We became engulfed into a deep discussion on which sushi to order. Time passed and no waiter. In time, people arrived at the table next to us and were quickly enjoying their wine supplied by their waiter. Finally, I got up and asked the sushi chef if he could get our Waiter for us. Minutes later a waiter arrived, seemingly anxious and pressed for time. He was unhelpful in familiarizing us with the sushi selections or rendering any advice as to what Sado does well. We decided to order the Sado Deluxe Combo. It was described on the menu as California Roll and Harmony Roll and an assortment of six pieces of sushi and six pieces of Sashimi for $35. My wife felt this would enable us to try different rolls and if needed, we could order Ring of Fire (tuna and tempura flakes inside with tuna in fish roe outside with jalapeno sauce) or some of the other delicious sounding sushi available on the menu later. The waiter disappeared with our drink and dinner order. After a long wait the waiter dropped off the drinks and mentioned that it could take up to 8 minutes for the meal to be prepared. No problem with us. Our drinks were depleted fairly quickly and we began to keep an eye out for the waiter to order another round. Whenever we made eye contact with him, holding up the empty glasses, he would drift across the restaurant without acknowledging us. A lot of time passed without seeing him again. After @ 20 - 25 minutes it was clear to us that our dinner had been forgotten too. We finally gave up and started to head for the door. Passing the sushi chef I mentioned that we were leaving and to let the waiter know. At the bar on the first floor we came across the waiter carrying on with the locals. It was clear his socializing took precedence over our dinner. We let him know we were leaving and edged out the door. We were there close to an hour and did not get to see or taste their food. It may be good sushi, but we left with a terrible taste in our mouth. read more
