My wife especially liked the cheerful decorative details indoors and in the back patio. It's really pleasant to hang out there. Born and raised in Hialeah (Miami, Fl) and needed a cafecito and lunch fix whilst passing through Worcester. Place is already special because of the recovery program it's affiliated with in partnership with UMass. In Miami we tend to take the Cuban sandwich for granted and this was probably one of the best I've ever had. In addition to the food and service being awesome, it was a great place to hang and catch up on email and take a few business calls. Cafecito in Miami is an art and hard to perfect but it was good enough. :) Hope to come back and check out the rest of the menu if I'm ever in Worcester again. read more

Visited here a couple weeks ago and excited to go back. My boyfriend ordered the Cuban sandwich and I had an omelette with sausage and cheese. We also ordered a side of fried plantains and cafe mochas. I could eat those fried plantains all day long. Food was excellent, coffee was fantastic, our server and the manager were super personable and helpful and the atmosphere is comfy. To top off the great experience and good food, the purpose of this little restaurant is amazing, getting people on their feet and giving them work experience. Normally, I love this place. The service tends to be slow, but the food is great! I love having a Cuban restaurant in the area. Today, however, was very disappointing. I waited over an hour for toast and a fruit cup - and we got there before they got busy. After ordering, I had to ask twice more for my food. When the waiter came over (not my original guy) and brought my fruit, he asked for 2 minutes to make my toast. I told him to forget it. My daughter had long since finished her meal. We paid and left. This was my first experience at Cafe Reyes and it seems as though they were really struggling today. The most pressing issue we had was that we have a dairy allergy in our family and despite ordering a sandwich without cheese we still received an order with Swiss. This was accompanied by phone and credit card machines that weren't working, very slow service, and a lack of social distancing. I attempted a call to encourage them not to charge my credit card since my order was unsatisfactory but they hung up. After 5 visits here I can honestly say I love this place! The food is always delicious, the ambiance is always festive and inviting (I love the music and decor!), and the service is consistently excellent. There are many, many restaurants in this area, and this is surely one of the best! My only complaint: it is only open for breakfast and lunch :P Bonus note: Cafe Reyes is an on-site training center for residents and graduates of the Hector Reyes House, which is a bilingual/bicultural treatment center for Latino men in recovery. What a hidden gem in Worcester! I came here for the second time with three other people, including a visitor from New York City who is accustomed to that city's vibrant eating scene. The five-star experience starts with an inspiring story. This restaurant represents a cause that is even more important than a place to eat. Dr. Matilde Castiel, the executive director of the Hector Reyes House (a residential treatment center for men struggling with substance abuse), hails from Cuba and works at the nearby UMASS Medical Center. At Cafe Reyes, she employs former addicts, most of whom have been to prison and many of whom have been homeless. Therefore, Cafe Reyes is a safe environment where you'll not only be enjoying great food and service, but you'll also be supporting the reintegration of recovering addicts, who are simply developing and honing important societal and workplace skills. That said, this is still a restaurant, and this reviewer must review it accordingly. What'll strike you about Cafe Reyes is the friendly and informed service. On the day, our server was Carlos. He imparted useful advice when ordering the Pastel de Guayaba y Queso- it's best eaten warm! The service at this restaurant was so enjoyable that our party was even served complimentary meringues, which were sweet and light. What about the actual food? Well, it's very good and affordable. The menu has just enough perfected options without being overbearing and excessive. Our group shared La Empanada Cubana and Empanada de Queso y Chorizo- both solid appetizers. The Cubano and Pan con Lechón are both tasty entrees. The garlic sauce especially makes the Pan con Lechón an enjoyable dish. The Cubano was delicious and authentic, consisting of ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard in a pressed Cuban roll. For dessert, we shared the Pastel de Guayaba y Queso and the Flan. The Pastel de Guayaba y Queso was nice and flaky and also generously filled with a balanced blend of guava and cheese. Good food? Check. Affordable? Check. Great service? Check. This place was so delicious!! The inside is cute, bright and colorful. I guess they help employe those who are recovering from addictions and are trying to get back on their feet. That's what my friend told me. It's a great cause and one I am gladly willing to support. All the food that we got was delicious and so fresh. My friend ordered a mango smoothie and you could tell that fresh fruit was used. The parking is a little odd. If you can find street parking, great! There is a driveway that you need to park in. The lot next door is used for someone else and you will get towed if you park there. The driveway only holds about 3 cars and it makes it a bit awkward to back out of. Backing out wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's just not ideal. Definitely check this place out! read more

Can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Everytime I go back, I am reminded of how amazing their slow roasted pork sandwiches are. With a side of mojo sauce and plantain chips, you are all set. We recently found this gem of a breakfast spot when we googled "outside breakfast" ... and technically it does have tables outside but you really must go inside to get the real flavor of the restaurant. It's decorated beautifully, is immaculately clean and has a welcoming island vibe as soon as you enter. The service was wonderful, the food was delicious and we can't wait to go back to try the cubano after reading all the great comments about that. I hope this place continues to be successful. Finally found a Cuban sandwich that isn't in Miami. I go to Miami every year for Vacation and have eaten the Cuban sandwich at Versailles which is top Cuban in Miami. This place taste just as great. Very bad service. I waited long time (more than 30 min) to be seated and I get pissed off when 3 people came after me and were offered the seat. When I asked the cafe manager about that, he replied that he was waiting for a 2 seat table to be empty. I didn't understand that logic. Anyways, after 30 min of getting a table, no one asked or served even water. I had to reach out to manager once again for taking the order. And finally when the food arrived, the order was wrong. I had to ask for replacement. I saw many unhappy customers while I was waiting at my table. No idea how this cafe has such a good raiting. I am not going back there again and never recommend any one. I took my daughter here for breakfast Thanksgiving morning and they treated us like family. Of course we started the morning with a couple Cuban Coffees...yum! If I were just rating the food, it would give it 4 stars. However, service is half the experience at a restaurant and we had terrible service. I would not recommend coming here if you are hungry and aren't willing to wait 40-60 minutes for your food. SERVICE: We waited 30 minutes for them to even take our order and we had to ask the waitress 3 times before they took our order. Then once the order was placed, it took another 40 minutes for our food to be served. I had a feeling that they would mess up our order and they did. Not a big deal but it certainly added to the frustration we had with the wait. The table next to us was also clearly frustrated with the wait as they approached the waitress 4 times before finally getting their food. The problem wasn't even that they were low on staff - the problem was that there didn't seem to be a sense of urgency to attend to customers. We sat at the bar opposite the kitchen and could see the waitress chatting with the cook. She would also walk back and forth doing nothing when there were clearly things to attend to (including taking our order and clearing the tables). FOOD: Great and decently priced. We ordered the Plato de Lechon Asado (Slow roasted mojo pork, black beans, rice and fried plantain) and it was delicious. The pork was tender and well-seasoned. Overall, it's a shame that this was our first experience. It seems like such a wonderful cause and the food is delicious but the service needs TREMENDOUS work. If you're looking for delicious, quick and cheap spanish/hispanic food without the wait (and the cause of course), I'd recommend Maria's Kitchen on main street instead. read more
