Man, I really liked this place, but it was so darn expensive. Earlier this summer, we had a little air b and b in Seattle's Othello neighborhood. I walked down to Cafe Red a couple of mornings for coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Cute little place! I'm pretty sure it's a converted caboose train car. Very cool! Appropriately, it's smack dab, right off Seattle's Othello neighborhood train stop. Perfectly convenient. Very friendly workers. Looked like a small kitchen in the back. Service was quick. My wife and daughter said the coffee was good. Let me tell you about the sandwich! There wasn't a large variety, but the sandwiches were special. We tried the sausage egg and cheese and the bacon egg and cheese. These sandwiches were huge. We could only eat half and saved half for later. The bread was a beautiful artisan chiabata. The sausage and bacon was thick, bold, and delicious. The cheese was perfectly gooey. The egg was something I'd never had before. It was a big square on the sandwiches. It looked kind of strange, and I was a bit skeptical, but it was delicious, savory, and had a meaty consistency. The sandwiches were still good after being warmed up. Cafe Red has a cool outdoor section. It looks like there is live music here pretty regularly. They are also actively involved in Seattle's social issues, providing an area for gatherings. Little place looked to play a big part in solving issues. I love that! Yum. This menu is simple and thoughtful. We devoured the pesto breakfast sammie and 4 breakfast burritos- 2 veggie and 2 chorizo. The burritos are small but fairly priced for the quality of foods so we recommend grabbing two of each. The tortillas are worth it alone. We also grabbed some of their fresh pressed juices: apple and orange juice. For Apple juice junkies like myself, it did not disappoint. Cafe Red is a gem. We need more plant based options like this place. Will be back soon! read more

I accidentally ordered the wrong thing and the person at the counter asked me clarifying questions to make sure they got me the right drink. I ordered a cannela latte instead of a cannela oatnilla which is what I wanted. They were so kind. The coffee is amazing. The vibes are great. Cute little coffee spot to stop at if you are coming to or leaving the airport and want a bite of something. The owner here is on his game for sure. He's also vegan so you bet he will have mostly veg items on the menu but he does include things like regular eggs and cheese if you want. What I like is you can modify any dish to your specifications. Also they don't have a lot of vegan tax here, you know the upcharges many places charge to make your food vegan. Soy milk for example is no additional cost. They have a pretty simple menu here, mostly sammies for breakfast or lunch. I was there in the morning hours so they were offering two vegan options. One was called The Morgan which is basically a hash brown party that comes with tomato Chao cheese cherry peppers and a spiced chipotle mayo. The other option is The Brighton which is more egg like in that you get this Sammie with a house made chickpea egg with arugula tomato Chao cheese and a felon type mayo. Had a hard time deciding as they both sounded unique but since the Morgan has more spicy additions went with that and added avocado for $2 extra. I also got a hand pull American with soy milk. Total was $12. One little negative about this place was they were training the front register guy working so you had to listen to all of the things he needed to watch out for. And of course that just seemed to make him get overwhelmed and so he would not be listening to my order. Drink was made quickly but they served in a to go cup even though I said I wanted to eat there. 10 minutes later a lady comes out with a bag saying a Morgan to go? Said no for here so she said sorry and disappeared in back. Had to wait another 10-15 minutes and the owner delivers to go another Morgan. I'm like dude remember I'm the guy wanting for here?? He apologized and returned to the back. Finally 5 minutes later get my sandwich... After that exhausting exercise I tried out the sandwich and it was very tasty. I added some of their Thai hot sauce inside and it tasted even better. The potatoes were made like a burger nice and crispy outside and moist inside. The bread was fresh and I liked the chipotle sauce on the bottom. As far as the avocado goes I'm not sure that was worth the extra $2 as it was only a thin layer and didn't add much to the Sammy. Next time I think I would rather add the vegan egg instead for the same price. Other than the slow service this was a cool spot to check out and both their coffee drinks and food were well made and tasty. Liked the people here too, very down to earth and friendly. Hopefully they work out the kinks with the ordering and getting your food as requested and in a more timely manner. read more

Went here with a friend who's vegan while visiting Seattle and it quickly became a favorite. The whole menu is vegan and the coffee/matcha is delicious! I got the pesto sandwich both times with an iced matcha where she opted for the coffee but everything was genuinely so good. Baristas are really friendly and everything is a reasonable price. There's a bit of seating inside and also outside (heaters are available for the outside seating!) and the outlets have usb and c-port charging available. Highly recommend Cafe Red right next to Othello Station :) read more

Delicious coffee, my go to drinks are oatnilla and canilla latte. Love that they have GF options and their avocado hashbrown is a delight, just the right amount of crunch, creaminess, and salt. My partner recently tried their winter seasonal drink, yaupon atole, and was a fan. Overall, this is a lovely neighborhood cafe, with super friendly staff, and they also support and uplift the South Seattle community. A gem:) read more

Best chai in town! Best vegan mac n cheese in town! Best idea to use hash brown patties as vegan substitute! A few months ago, on a whim when I didn't want coffee, I tried the chocolate chai and I was hooked! Then I started ordering chai everywhere I went in Seattle. Nope, nowhere makes it as good. It's either too sweet, not spicy enough, too milky, etc. So I shall declare Cafe Red's chocolate chai with soy milk to be best in town! Similar story for their vegan mac and cheese. Make sure you get the crumbles. It really takes it over the top! The vegan Morgan is another one of my go-to options. Make it a combo by adding a coffee and another hash brown! The vegan Webster is also great. The avocado toast is also great. Service can be a little slow but always friendly. The staff has real ties with the community so it feels nice to patronize this neighborhood spot. :) read more

Location isn't ideal, so walking would be your best bet. It is located directly next to heavily used transportation so be aware that you may run into the homeless on your way in. Overall I'd give it a 4-5/10, staff does their job but not much more. If your looking for authenticity I would look elsewhere. As for the food, everything is overpriced and prices do not change regardless of season ( yes avocado toast is still $10 in the summer ). The coffee is very much in line with the many other options in the rainier area, although they do have a few specialty drinks that helps them stand out. They offer seating outside and inside ( though very limited ) and take online orders through their website. Side note-- the avocado toast is very salty so I would recommend asking for light seasoning! read more

What an incredible cafe! It is absolutely detour & destination worthy. The physical space, service, food, and coffee were all great. This might be the best combination of food and espresso I've found anywhere in Seattle. The chorizo breakfast wrap, avocado hash brown, and canella latte were all fantastic. This Cafe is a gem. My husband and I visited Cafe Red for the first time yesterday due to leaving the Museum of Flight at 5pm (when it closes) and wanting a chill place to hang out near the Museum instead of battling the heavy traffic to try to make it home during rush hour. We checked yelp reviews for several nearby cafes, and this cafe came out on top. We agree with all of you fellow yelp reviewers who helped to direct us here - this is definitely a 5-star cafe. We really enjoyed our time at Cafe Red. We had planned on just ordering tea, but the sandwiches on the menu looked so tasty that we changed our mind. This turned out to be an excellent decision. The sandwiches were toasty warm, and the gluten-free bread had a pleasant taste and texture. My husband ordered the gluten-free caprese panini, and I ordered the gluten-free grilled cheese & avocado sandwich with aioli (personally, I've never had an aioli that I didn't like). The counter guy was super chill but very attentive and considerate. The vibe is very laid-back. I did order tea also, and I got the Turmeric Rooibos Chai. Apparently there's been an oat milk craze going on for several months now (thanks, google) that I had no idea was happening until I tasted my piping-hot tea and absolutely had to know what type of milk was in my incredibly creamy, nourishing, unbelievably delicious concoction. Cafe Red has large burlap coffee bags intermingled with unique works of art on its walls. Some people were studying, some people were chatting together in low tones. My husband and I decided to read. Cafe Red has a small bookshelf full of interesting books. (The books are available for use by cafe patrons during your stay at the cafe.) My book was about various Asian-American experiences in the PNW, and his book was about timing, tempo, narrative, and the process of human decision-making. We chose our books after narrowly deciding against an enticing game of "Seattle-Opoly" that sat on the shelves among a few other fun-looking board games. The music choices in Cafe Red at the time of my visit could sometimes be a bit grating for my personal tastes. I usually prefer music on the softer, mellower side, especially in this type of a setting. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here, and I recommend giving this cafe a try if you're in the area and you're feeling like enjoying some good coffee, amazing tea, and/or terrific sandwiches. read more

My favorite cafe anywhere ever. Lots of delicious sandwich options for vegans and omnivores alike, as well as mouth watering mac and cheeze. Excellent events every week that draw a vibrant community of artists, activists and loving neighbors. A well-rounded library inside the cafe and a stack of board games provide options for entertainment if you favor quieter activities. There is a colorful little outdoor area in the back where they sometimes host parties. I love being able to order my breakfast sandwich ahead of time on the Joe coffee app. It's perfect for me because I take the train to work, and I can just place my order once I get on the train, hop off at Othello, pick up my order, and get on the very next train to work! read more

Love! What a sweet little hole in the middle of the sidewalk. Yummy coffee and great munchies in Seattle. I had an oat latte, babes had a mocha. Both great. I am so stoked on this place! Lovely customer service, super cute & cozy atmosphere, full vegan menu w/ chao cheese & field roast, OATLY milk, vegan pumpkin spice latte, CHEAP prices, vegan mac & cheese!!! They've got la croix, kombucha, alcohol as well. Just discovered this place after moving to Columbia City a few weeks ago & it's for sure going to be my go-to cafe!! They also have open mic nights & art events! Such a rad spot and the customer service was top notch. They seem very community oriented & I LOVE that. What a great way to start my morning. This place is completely vegan and has amazing food! We tried the cauliflower wings, avocado toasts and sausage sandwich! The wings were a little crunchy and seasoned just right! Divine vegan breakfast sandwiches - that's why you should visit here. The place is a cargo crate right outside Othello Station, and is fairly small and intimate outside, nicely set up and comfortable. Lots of coffee and tea beverages, and a small menu of breakfast items. We ordered The Brighton breakfast sandwich, which comes with vegan "egg", and added vegan sausage. I think it was the best vegan breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Not healthy by any means, but it was so beautifully designed, with such a great flavour richness. I don't usually rave about sandwiches, but damn. A little pricey on the sandwiches, but worth it for the quality. Highly recommended. read more

I'm moving from south Seattle tomorrow and just tried Cafe Red this morning. Boy, do I wish I discovered it sooner! I'm not vegan, so I was nervous about if the items would actually taste good, or if they would just taste "decent for being vegan." I was proven wrong. I was pretty blown away. I ordered the lotus skinny red energy drink, pesto breakfast sandwich, and macaroni and cheez. The energy drink was flavorful and bubbly, super yummy. The sandwich--omg.. so good. That pesto though! I'm not even sure how they got some of the flavors in there. The Mac n cheese was amazing, too, such a good texture and flavor. Yum yum yum! Truly impressed. read more

I won't support. I had a $10 coupon and forgot I had it, so I stopped by one morning. I felt like a cup of coffee and the owner was there, and it had only been a couple of days and I asked him if he could just go ahead and honor it because I completely forgot and we went back-and-forth probably five or six different times and he still never honored it I mean, that's not a Cummy that really cares about their customers are trying to keep them so I won't be back read more

What a gem in the neighborhood and beyond considering all of the Link customers they must get. I'm as carnivorous as they come but this place is truly vegan without compromise. The drinks are inventive and made with quality ingredients. The food menu looks DELICIOUS - I've only tried the hashbrown with avocado and chorizo breakfast burrito so far and both have been super delicous. A great environment to chill and hang out, also great for on the go drinks! Highly recommend. read more

I found it very delicious and light and refreshing. If you're looking for a Matcha, the Matcha flavor isn't very strong and it mostly tastes like an earl grey latte, but it is delicious and creamy. I ended up coming back and getting it again but with extra Matcha foam for additional Matcha flavor. Absolutely loved this drink. I also got a Matcha latte with black sesame cold foam. I've had a black sesame Matcha from somewhere else before, and the sesame flavor was very light, so that was what I was expecting, but was met with a very strong sesame flavor. I was not a huge fan as it felt overpowering and I couldn't taste the matcha. However, this is just a personal preference thing and if you like black sesame you should definitely try it! I'm not sure what much they used, but it didn't taste like the best quality, but it is still delicious and their drinks are all fun . The inside is small but and warm and cozy and they do have some seating. I was always able to find a spot. Super cute place with very sweet baristas.
