Every time I'm away from home and in this area I Have been trying to go to cafe Pierrot in Sparta for breakfast. Well the opportunity came Saturday. I don't know if I could be more surprised by the lack of interest from the girl who didn't want to seat us. The dinning room was quite empty and the "little room" only had a waiter sitting doing her bills We were told "let me check if there is anything available". What! I can clearly see there are PLEANTY of open tables clearly 75% empty. We were then told "I can sit you at the two topper in the little room ". I looked and asked " can we Waite for the larger room (so as not to sit and disturb the waiter !! ). All I got was a blank look and complete silence for a bit of time I then said well I guess that's a no and walked to to door and left !!!! Been to the cafe multiple times and have never been disappointed. There is hard to find a better place to sit outside and enjoy a nice lunch in Sussex county. I have tried multiple things on the menu and I highly suggest ordering the chef's grilled cheese. I know it might sound funny to order a grilled cheese at a place like this, but believe me you will not be disappointed. They get it. A great menu , well prepared food and a baker that truly understands the fine European Bakery products. We have had always consistently prepared great meals. Our friends we bring feel the same way. Their sauces are exceptional. One of the few places that truly knows how to make beef bourginonne. Keep it up. Your place reminds me of the great local places, family owned, that were common in the part of Queens where I grew up. Why not a 5 star review? It does not have a liquor license. Cute place and yummy pastries. The place Is small and can get very loud when busy which it usually is. The food is mostly good but can be inconsistent. Most disappointed with the grilled cheeses which sound good and creative but last couple times we ordered it, there was not enough cheese and the bread was not even grilled enough for it to be browned and the cheese wasn't even melted. read more

This was the best breakfast ever! Even compared to my experiences in Paris. The vegetable eggs Benedict was excellent as well as the homemade hash. The bakery section makes your mouth water looking at the muffins, cookies, cupcakes and cakes. The building is full of character and charm. Cafe Pierrot wants so much to be as good as their own hype, but buttercream icing made with shortening, tasteless stale cake, re-iced full cakes (yes, I paid $35 for a premade cake with vanilla buttercream icing that was actually iced over dark chocolate fondant--who does that?!), rock-hard macarons, and melted Moonstruck chocolates is not how to do it. I've never had a bad meal here, but every bakery purchase has an issue. Having said that, the items at their Andover bakery (all baked goods are made there) are always fresh. I say skip the Sparta hype hut and go right to the bakery itself in Andover. read more

I stopped in for lunch this week after hearing great things about the food.The cafe is in a cool older building that has lots of character.We were seated in the back dining room.It was pretty busy for a mid week day and the noise level was extreme.Maybe it was a bunch of rowdy diners,but it was hard to have a convo without screaming.Or I might be getting too old! Our server was a pleasant young woman who took care of us with no issues.I ordered the $8.00 lunch special which was a cup of soup with their signature salad.They offer a few varieties of soup,and I chose the butternut squash.The soup was tasty. My salad was a different story.There were numerous black rotted leaves in the mesclun mix which was very diasppointing.I complained to our server,and she had the salad remade for me.The kitchen used romaine in the remake,which was alright by me,but there was a moldy cherry tomato on top! Our server was very professional in fixing the sald miscues,but the lack of kitchen quality control was disconcerting to say the least.Someone should check the food before it leaves the kitchen. I will say that my cup of coffee was very fresh and good,which is a big plus to a caffeine addict like me. I was very disappointed,but thats how it goes sometimes.With other lunch options in the area,I probably wont return for food,but the coffee take out counter might be worth a trip.. read more

I love Cafe Pierrot. The food is excellent, but I must file this review to bring to the owners attention a false advertising issue. I stopped in on a day the sign read free dessert with lunch. There were quite a few customers still eating lunch as I heard the wait staff say, "We're out of free dessert" to all of the remaining customers while the bakery case was full of baked goods. No explanation. No accommodation. This is poor business policy. read more

4 stars for their fruit tarts. My god, guilty pleasure. The cranberry scone was really buttery and delicious. I love personally the classic fresh fruit tart and lemon meringue the best. 2 stars for the other items we ordered, pound cake could have been used as a hammer, really we swung it on our dash board and it didn't break. Walnut bar was old, definitely not fresh. I really don't like their cheesecake either, it looks good but the consistency isn't their for me. They were sold out of all croissants 12:30 p.m on a Saturday. Understandable but a bit unfortunate for us. I have been coming here for years and will continue to come for the fruit tarts. They are BEAUTIFUL. Not so sure about all the other desserts freshness though. read more

I love this place! We ordered 4 pies from here and 4 cannolies. Everything was awesome. Our only little complaint was the apple pie was a tiny bit watery and we weren't sure if it were suppose to be put in the oven for a little longer. We called to double check and they were so nice about it. They actually refund out card for the pie! They didn't need to do this and they went out their we to! We had Cafe Pierrot cater our wedding on September 2nd, of 2017. The Cafe was very accommodating to our special diet needs as we are vegetarian, and some of our guests were vegan. All the food was very delicious and nicely served, the food showed up on time, if anything they were early and set up so quickly and effortlessly that I didn't even notice when it all happened! This used to be my favorite place to come and get a good lunch with my mom. There food was always delicious, the place was always super charming, and the servers were so nice! But today my whole opinion changed. It was super busy-which is fine and normal. But the wait staff, and the kitchen were atrocious!!!! The display cabinet was dirty, my tuna melt only had tuna and cheese on one side and then tomato and cheese on the other side, my moms lunch came out 20 mins after mine and we sat without water for over 30 mins!!!! Then when we complained to our waitress she didn't do anything for use or offer us anything! Then when we went to pay, another staff asked how it was and we said it was terrible all she did was laugh!!!! Then I ordered a latte to go and it literally tasted like water!!!!! So disappointing to see this place falling apart. read more

this is a little late, but unfortunately i have to give cafe pierrot a poor review. They were very nice and the cake tasted great for our wedding last fall, But it was NOTHING like the picture we were shown and the expectations they had set. It was really quite disappointing and there was nothing we could do about it on the day of the wedding. The cake was part of a package with our venue, but we were clear that if our selection cost more than the venue would offer, we would be happy to pay any cost difference. So nice people and good tasting cake, but they really let us down unfortunately. read more

Pastries are OK, but not high quality, just average. Having lived in France and eaten pastries around Europe I recognize my expectations are high. But even bakeries in Staten Island and Brooklyn are able to execute solid pastries, croissants, etc. Not worth the calories from Cafe Pierrot unfortunately. I would avoid this place. I've been here twice for lunch--the sandwiches are alright, but overpriced for how small they are. With a sandwich you get three little sides of salad--some greens, potato salad, and pasta salad. What really turned me off to this place after my second visit today is that I purposely left most of these salads for my leftovers (since the half sandwich would be quite a meager snack on its own). I just opened the bag to find that the waitress didn't give me any salads at all, just a big empty box with a pathetic excuse for a half sandwich. It makes me feel like a big chump for leaving her a nice tip--I won't be returning. Caveat emptor--if you decide to go here make sure to wrap your own leftovers lest you get cheated out of half your meal!!! read more

Pierrot is just okay for lunch. I've gotten salads with lettuce wilted, which is an appetite killer. I haven't tried their pastries, which I believe they are known for in the area. Sandwiches and wraps seem to be pretty good too. A little more than I want to spend, but for the most part decent lunch or early dinner spot. read more

Service was excellent. We had a burger with fries, chicken fingers with fries and chicken caesar wrap. Fries were great, the bacon with burger was too crispy, almost burned but the burger itself was average. The chicken that came with the wrap was a little on the dry side. Chicken fingers were overdone and dry. Whoever was cooking in that kichen that day does not believe in soft food! Despite all this, their chocolate chai latte was delicious!! Peanut butter cookie which they had sampled out was also sooo good and I'm not even a fan of peanut foods. Update: My family went back there for hot chocolate and dessert. Both were good but the desserts were nothing to brag about. I guess it being a bakery, I expected better. I'm used to NYC bakery quality and it is very tough to find that locally. read more

This place is really good! I generally go here for breakfast but their lunch is so delicious. They have amazing coffee and really fresh food. The owner went to school in Paris. I just wish it was open on Sunday. Seating is limited so you might have to wait longer than normal. If you don't see something on the menu, ask and they will accommodate your diet, no matter how weird. They also have take out and they cater. The waitresses aren't the best but everything else makes up for it. I love going here. read more

This bakery is a true gem. I'm not from the area but was hosting a party about 20 minutes away and needed a cake. I ordered 1/2 a sheet cake which was 3 layers, 2 chocolate and 1 vanilla with chocolate mousse filling. The buttercream icing is to die for...I don't like icing, in fact I rarely eat it because it's too sweet and taste like butter. Well not Café Pierrots - their icing is absolutely delicious, extremely light, not too sweet and the texture is smooth. I requested a rainbow trout on the cake as my 90 year old dad loves to fish. They went beyond what I had imagined...the piping of a hook and line to the fish was fabulous and they also put some green plants on the bottom, oh and they did 2 dimension writing, never saw that before. Everyone raved about the cake, look and taste. I also had to purchase a few cupcakes each time I went to make sure that the Café was going to meet my expectations. Every cupcake was fabulous...the lemon one I think is my favorite along with the chocolate mint cupcake they made for St. Patty's Day....yum. If I'm in the area of Andover or Sparta I will definitely go out of my way to stop - wish they were closer to where I live....bummer!! : ) read more

Excellent place all around! Recently stopped in for lunch on a weekend and was impressed by the menu. It was a tough decision but I chose the grilled cheese of the week which was great. Sandwiches come with pasta salad, potato salad and a small green salad. I couldn't pass up dessert after looking at the bakery section of the cafe. I had a raspberry chai and sprinkle cookie.
