Lot's of different things to critique so I'll try to categorize. Pro's: Friendly Staff, Accommodating (Depending upon the staff) and some decent offerings. Some of the pound cakes and brownies are tasty, pies, some cake and cupcakes. Cons: Not consistent with lunch menu items and what sides are supposed to come with meals - all depends upon the staff or if they are running low on sides. Breads are sometimes under-cooked and just plain doughy. "Fresh baked" cookies are too heavy on the sugar and sadly not made with butter. Andover location is in serious need of paint, a new window sill outside and a cleaning! No clue if they use preservatives or fillers. To start with, Café Pierrot has a lunch menu which states what sides, toppings, or ingredients are included on a salad, sandwich, soup or wrap. Depending upon whom is making your lunch it will vary each time and many times NOT include what it is supposed to on their menu. All wraps are supposed to have potato salad, pasta salad and greens. Sometimes you may get an average portion of these sides, sometimes just a heaping spoonful, other times you may only be given one or two of the sides. One of the wraps states "with EXTRA potato salad". Uh, no. Never happens - why have a menu then? If you order one of their salads, good luck getting what is supposed to be part of that dish. And they are very skimpy on the greens. I've stopped ordering salads, because its just not worth it when you DON'T get everything that you are supposed to! Some days you order soup to go and they will include several slices of their bread, with another young lady you get nothing. Or, if they are running low on the sides, someone may skimp, but to be quite honest, why cheat the customer? Mind you, you are still paying FULL price for these dishes. Maybe the staff needs a refresher on what it states on their menus and to stay consistent! Walnut Coconut Bars - twice now we've tried these, which COULD be delicious - first time the walnuts in this bar were stale. I thought, well, maybe it's just this one time and I questioned to myself whether any of the staff tastes the walnuts to insure freshness or are there expiration dates on these things? We tried again almost 2 months later - yep - same thing. Entire bar is riddled with stale walnuts. WHY??? That's unacceptable. Moving on to the condition of this establishment. Not trying to be mean, but you walk up to the little building where they have the Café (they own several buildings on this property) and you cannot miss the completely rotted window sills in front - why would you let this go for so long? And you just celebrated your 30th Anniversary? Also, there is some sort of antique mill sitting in front - rusted to high Heaven - again, it can't be there for any kind of décor because at this point its an eyesore. On the latest visit - since we were waiting for so long for an order to be done (which we called ahead and gave it MORE than ample time to finish) I happened to look towards the corner that leads into back area where they prep and bake and maybe 20 large bags of flour were stacked against the wall - next to them some lawn and leaf type trash bag dangling over something and I looked above and there were dark cobwebs dangling from the ceiling over the bags of flour and trash bag. Not appealing at all. Not to mention, the walls looked dirty and all around it's in need of cleaning and fresh paint. Just makes me wonder what else is lurking in the back where they prepare the food when the entrance to the place is rotting and the place needs to be painted and cleaned? Does the owner ever take a look or care? They offer so called fresh baked cookies if you call at least 30 minutes ahead (their policy, not mine). OK, we tried this and when I called I was told it will be about 30-45 minutes. Fine, no problem. We arrived an hour later, figuring it gave them plenty of time to prepare the cookies. When we got there I was told, oh, they are just going in the oven, so it should be about 5 minutes. NO. Try 30-40 minutes later of waiting. Gee, thanks. To top this all off, after waiting so long for something that should have been ready - they dumped all these large (warm) cookies on top of each other with NO wax paper in between! If you even attempted to dislodge one, it would crumble. Geeze, after all that and you end it with sloppy packaging? And it's not like they were all the same cookie type. Lastly, I'm not adverse to sugar, but when the flavor is overpowered by just sugar, it's no good. And we tasted no butter, which homemade cookies should be made with real butter and these had none that could be detected. HUGE disappointment and would never order these cookies again. We keep going back, hoping for better quality and service, but it's hit or miss. read more

Absolutely by FAR the best place in northern NJ. We have bought many cakes from here from over the years and have also been extremely happy. They are all delicious. The pastries are very good and the macarons are something they are quite known for. The building is hidden and not much to look at in Andover but it is definitely worth it! read more

A friend reserved a carrot cake from Cafe Pierrot for a birthday, and asked me to pick it up on the way to the celebration. When she called to order the cake, she asked if they had birthday candles on hand as well. The answer was yes. When I got to the store the cake was ready and I asked about the candles. "We have them; but they are $2 each." "OK great I said, I'll take one box." She hesitated and said "No, they are $2 individually, actually they are $2.09 each with tax." ONE single little birthday candle represented 5% of the cake cost. A quick web inquiry showed Amazon offering 120 birthday candles at a price that equated to 6 cents each. I gave 2 stars because the cake was outstanding. I suggest that Cafe Pierrot "invests" in a case of birthday candles and offer them at market price. This will save them from negative Yelp reviews, and spare the young cashiers the embarrassment of charging a ridiculous amount for a single tiny candle. read more

I ordered a cake for my daughter's 15th birthday and they were very helpful and professional! They were also super patient when we had questions to ask. The cake was moist and wasn't too sweet. They are very reasonable, and have been able to accommodate me for parties, and custom orders without any issues. I have never had a bad meal there, and some of my favorites are the fried goat cheese over salad, their chicken salad is amazing, and their macaroons are superior. I recently purchased a specialty cake for a baby shower. I worked with Sadie who was very responsive and accommodating as this was somewhat of a short notice order. The cake was decorated exactly as I requested and we received many compliments on how delicious it was. This is the second speciality cake I've ordered from them and I was pleased with the other order as well which was a birthday cake. I do think the pricing is a bit high, however you do get better quality so it is worth it. read more

Ordered here a few times and cakes are good but a bit on the pricier side. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I love how they have samples on the table it's something I look forward too. Lunch menu is also very good. Ordered a strawberry shortcake cake for a bday and it was just terrible. The inside had a funny after taste as if something went south. I was really disappointed in the cake. Nothing like the cakes I've ordered from them in the past. I mean Shoprites strawberry shortcake is better and for half the price. Utterly to die for. My friends and I have been getting baked goods from there for a while each piece more fabulous than the last. This afternoon I picked up apple walnut bread that was like an apple pie made love to bread. It was so tasty my taste buds cried with joy. I also got some chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles that although simple, were moist, flavorful, and fluffy. The definition of what a cupcake should be. Went there to find out about getting a cake done for a birthday party. I wanted something simple, just a small 2 tier basic chocolate cake. Per the brochure they provided me, a 7" round cake was $35 and a 10" round cake was $45. That would serve 30 people, which was perfect. I was going to get some little rosettes done in buttercream, nothing crazy. I assumed it would maybe be $100 to $120 all said and done. I was ok with that. So I go in to the Andover store and there are 2 other customers there, clearly for a cake tasting, so I just look around and wait, not once did the girl working there even acknowledge me or say be right with you, no big deal, but still. While waiting I notice a lemon cake in the case with the exact rosette design on it for $35, I think "great, they can do the design I like and it should be affordable. 10 mins later she gets to me and takes out the cake binder. She proceeds to tell me that specialty cakes start at $175 and the buttercream rosettes will be extra! I pause, stunned, and show her the brochure where it says the prices. I ask " so this and this are this are $80, but what you're telling me is that I would have to pay $175 plus for buttercream for essentially the same thing?" She doesn't bat an eye and almost matter of factly say yes. I say but that's more than double. And again she just says yes. Never asks anyone else about the huge difference in price just stares at me. I said ok thank you and left. No intentions of returning based on the customer service alone. read more

I pass here everyday and decided to give it try a couple months ago. I got a coffee and a ham and cheese scone. I was happy with both so I stopped a couple weeks later and got the same, this time I was not as happy. The scone was very stale and the ham in it had turned a weird brown color. After that I told myself I would never go back but I was in a bind a couple weeks ago and needed a loaf of rye bread. I sent my husband and I can't believe he was sold what he was. He came home with a loaf of bread that was so hard I'm sure I could have used it for a hammer. I could not believe that a bakery would sell someone something that was so stale. *Signed up just to review this place* Was in a pinch last night and ate here with my 10 month old. Will never go back - not even if they were offering free cake. I don't think I have ever experienced such a rude server. Maybe it was because I had my baby with me? Maybe it was because I breastfed her at the table (with a blanket) But come on lady, I worked all day - it was late and didn't feel like making dinner. Oh and the food sucked and tasted like it was made in the sink. Also, the lemonade tastes like it was mixed in an old sports cooler. Vomit! Service was excellent. We had a burger with fries, chicken fingers with fries and chicken caesar wrap. Fries were great, the bacon with burger was too crispy, almost burnt and the burger itself was average. The chicken that came with the wrap was a little on the dry side. Chicken fingers were overdone. Maybe it was an off day, but the cook was overcooking everything that day. I believe this place is known for the bakery items. Their chocolate chai latte was delicious!! Peanut butter cookie which they had sampled out was also sooo good and I'm not even a fan of peanut foods. We took a few cookies and tiramisu to go. Been going to this bakery for years, mostly for special cake orders. Every cake we had was undercooked and overfilled with buttercream with the thinnest layer of actual cake- except the very first one. I think I kept going back hoping they'd be better like the first one. The last cake I got, I went in and purchased from the window display case. When I asked, the girl at the register assured me that it was "very fresh". It was FROZEN when I brought it home and went to cut it about a half hour later. Frozen. Ummm not what I expected and super disappointing to say the least. Also really overcharged me for a specialty cake that they wrote "happy birthday" in a marker on a white piece of fondant. So tacky. Any time we would go in to pick up, they barely acknowledged or said thank you- no one was really friendly when placing an order ei. I've tried to give this bakery many chances, because I really wanted to like them. Never going back. I'm giving the extra star because my children love their cookies. read more

Recently i gave a 1 star rating. I recieved a call back from them today. They went above and beyond to make me happy and offered a refund or whatever to make me happy. I was told to special request the whip cream bacause it melts and doesn't sit well. I changed my Rating to a 5 star. Cute sitting area but no bathrooms. Sat by a gas burning stove that was off with no warning that it would go on and off as door opened. Burned and ruined my winter coat. If someone hadn't come from the kitchen because they smelled something burnin, I wouldn't have noticed it until it was perhaps in flames? No glass cover on the stove just a grill. Table was apparently too close to door and too close to stove. Good think it wasn't a kid sitting there. Did I mention no bathrooms? Amazing! This little family owned shop creates the most delicious pastries, treats soups and dinner pies. You can order your wedding cake right from the shop as well, while looking over photo books with Rick (the owner). I guess I just have bad luck because I went to this bakery today and also sometime around Christmas and both times, the baking was unbelievably stale! I shouldn't have to have "good luck" to get fresh food!!. These cupcakes had to be at LEAST 5 days old. They were hard and tasted like garlic because they sat around so long that they absorbed the taste of the other food in the bakery. The icing is flavored lard. I would expect something buttery and delicious because the presentation is wonderful....the taste ...not wonderful at all. My experience was the same back in December. We got a variety of desserts and out of 6 things, only the cheesecake was edible. Stop selling week old food! On day 2, you need to discount it to get it out the door. read more

Great food! You can buy the best sweets there. The one is Sparta is a bit better though.
