Owner (guy with the man bun and beard) is cheap and disrespectful. Sad because I enjoyed the atmosphere but multiple times the owner attempted to over charge and said "what, you're not going to tip??" when we only came for pool. Acted rude when we pointed out that he over charged us the previous time. I have been coming here for years but I wont be anymore. I absolutely love Mistiko! They always have great music and their food is delicious! My personal favorites are their popcorn shrimp, chicken pesto panini, chicken kabobs & caesar salad! I love how they make their own Caesar dressing! But pretty much anything they have is amazing food & drink wise. The staff is always friendly and the owners are always around which makes it easy to get to know them. Yes, it may attract a more "euro" crowd but for lunch and non-weekend nights... you can avoid that. It's a very good place to just hang out either on a date or with a bunch of friends. Seriously, just stay away! They have the worst service and food ever and we had the privilege of the rudest waitress ever. We never got our drinks or ask for refills. We were a big party of 13 ppl and the waitress did not care about a thing. Most dishes in the appetizers and sides were extremely salty. When we informed the waitress, we got responses like "that's how we make it" and a lot of eye rolling. When we begged for water refills after trying to get her attention, she thrust a jug of water and left. It was an utter waste of money to pay for the third rate salty food they serve. We ordered some cucumber rolls that were served spoilt. Some of us had to spit it out. I wish this place shut down really soon. read more

This place is really good! We were a party of 5 and we ordered a bunch of stuff-I would highly recommend the Greek potatoes as an addition to any meal or as something for the table to share! The saganaki was delicious as well! as far as drinks-everyone on the table ordered beer and it seemed they had a huge variety to choose from; I got the coconut mojito which was done differently than usual but I really enjoyed it. The patio is pretty nice too weather permitting. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because they were out of lamb meat and quite few of the dishes we wanted to try were with lamb. I stop in about 2 - 4 times a week on the way home. I cook rarely as I live alone and travel extensively for work. I also play pool at a professional level. 1) The tables are 4x8 not 4.5x9 - but the 4.5x9 are only available at pool halls (and only at the money ones like Chris Billiards) so this is OK. They are in very good shape. 2) The food is excellent and inexpensive - especially if you eat out often. They offer lunch specials that are about the price of many fast food restaurants and infinitely better (quality and health-wise). 3) The liquor supply is also very good and well priced. I would recommend this place; I visit it often and I can afford to eat anywhere I want. read more

Mistiko is an excellent alternative to the corporate McMeal/McBeer experience people often have in the 'burbs. There's an eclectic environment with an unusual amount of friendliness and camaraderie. I'd be hard pressed to find another place which embraces futbol and afternoon chillage like Mistiko does. The ambiance of the place has a lot of labor and thought but the intangibles like the mood of staff is way above par. The food is fantastic from appetizers to dessert. They know Greek food well, so I'd suggest getting anything Greek. It is not obscenely Greek though, the place has a Euro feel to it but without the body odor. If you're looking to hangout, have a stella or an 'upscale coffee,' this is the place to do it. It also has consistently attractive customers. Had a wonderful time at Cafe Mistiko. After reading the reviews I didn't have high expectations for the service here, but our server was amazing. She made our dinner so enjoyable and the food was delicious. We had the saganaki and slouvaki to start and they were perfect. The steak sandwich was delicious, and big enough to split. I thoughg roasted potatoes are supposed to be hot and they gave me a potatoe salad that was cold-yuck! Also the overall food was not tasty. I went there for the first time on 8/10/20. Had driven by many times and thought it looked nice. When I arrived, there were two employees on the patio out front. One was smoking, so I figured they were off duty. The other was serving guests at a table, not masked. They didn't even have a mask around their neck. I waited at the front to be seated. The server came up to me and said to sit anywhere. I asked why they weren't masked. The response was inaudible to me, and the attitude was snippy! They turned away with a hand motion as if saying, "Whatever," and walked inside the building. I had asked them to repeat themself, but they were gone. I peeked inside the building and saw two people, not masked. I left and called the manager on the phone immediately. The manager said the server is now wearing the mask, and they were surprised they weren't wearing it when I was there. My feeling is that employees follow their management's modeling. I could have been a new customer, but I won't be going back. read more

Okay, I would never describe this place as a "Sports Bar." It actually used to be a hookah bar when you could still smoke in bars and restaurants around here. The place is still somewhat set up like the original hookah bar. It has low lighting with comfy couches and places to sit with low tables. They also have a bunch of pool tables. I don't think I've been in this place without the music bumping out techno. So if you're looking for a place for a quiet meal or drink, this isn't your scene. The food, however, is really good. I've gotten their flaming cheese which is awesome and their stuffed peppers. It serves food a lot later than restaurants in the area too. The drinks aren't too pricey. And I've been there a few times when the waiters or bartenders give me free shots (although these shots- they're pink and have a weird name- are really intense and also pretty gross, but hey, beggers can't be choosers). Cafe Mistiko is a euro drinking sports bar in that order. Americans that have never traveled beyond Cook County may not understand this concept. To go there and order a meal and just plain water means you have no taste. This bar has good wine, great beers, they will mix you any cocktail you like. For the nondrinker they have exotic teas, espresso and frappes. This is a euro-style bar and unlike an American bar they won't bother you unless you ask for service. VERY COMMON in EUROPE. You could hang out there all day and as long you order a drink every 45 minutes or so, you will quickly become one of the gang. Europeans have different customs so get used to it. WARNING: I was charged for drinks I did not have!! Very offensive staff. I had a similar experience to Jeff S.: I came to cafe mistiko for the first time the other night. To celebrate a friends new job offer, I ordered a round of shots for myself and two of my friends ( a total of 3 shots). I also ordered a beer and opened a tab. This bar was filled with young kids, several of which I'm confident we're underage. I decided to close my tab and call it a night a short while later, without purchasing any other drinks. The bartender gave me my receipt, which had 7 shots and one beer. When I told her I only bought 3 shots, she took the bill away to ask her manager what to do. When she came back, All she could tell me was that her computer said I had 7 shots and rang my credit card anyway, against my wishes. She dropped the checkbook and sped away. I followed up with the manager(owner?) and explained that I only had 3 shots and 1 beer but was charged for 7 shots and one beer. He quickly got very ANGRY and RUDE. At this point I was being yelled at and insulted. A guy (seeing me, a girl, be yelled at by the manager) stepped in and tried to calm the manager down. Instead of listening to what we were saying the manager began swearing at the guy who was only trying to help and said " how dare you disrespect me in my bar." Let me note, Nothing either of us had said was disrespectful. The manager asked me how old I was, he laughed in my face and told me I did not know how to order a drink at a bar. I 'm sorry,but I thought I could open up a tab at a bar and trust that I would not be charged for drinks I did not order. Also, I was insulted that the manager thought I was trying to get out of paying for my drinks. If I was trying to steal drinks, would I have left a credit card with the bartenders for a tab? I explained that I wanted to pay for my drinks, I just was not going to pay for the drinks I did not have. At that point there was literally nothing I could do, cafe mistiko got away with charging me an extra $25 for items I never ordered or enjoyed. It was a simple mistake that could have easily been taken care of and adjusted to the correct balance, but after being yelled at, belittled and taken advantage of, I WILL NEVER GO BACK AND AM WARNING EVERYONE ELSE TO NEVER OPEN A TAB AT THIS RESTAURANT. I went with a friend to Mistiko for lunch today. We have been there several times before for lunch and dinner. It has been in the past a conveniently located place to chat and have some decent food. However, today it was just outrageous. Service was marginal and the food was awful. We ordered baby octopus that tasted stale and was very tough. Prosciutto platter lacked greens and we were told that the chef ran out of greens (at 12pm!). Mozzarella cheese balls on the prosciutto platter were spoiled. After we requested to replace the proscuitto platter with something else, they brought greek sausage and feta platter. Sausage was oversalted and didn't taste fresh .Lamb kebobs appetizer was also oversalted. Finally we ordered Ferro Rocher crepes. The nuts were stale and the ferro rocher broken up candies were also stale. We barely touched the crepes. Silverware was dirty and I had to ask for replacement. It was the worst experience. I don't think i will be coming back and I don't recommend that you do either, if you go there for food (not just drinks, which i cannot comment on since we did not order any). read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to go for a very late dinner, and this place was perfect. At first it was a little odd, it's a bar and restaurant with a sort of night club vibe. It was still very relaxed and comfortable though. There was a waitress to us almost as soon as we sat down, she was very nice. My boyfriend had an iced tea, which he said was really good, I had a mojito and it was excellent. I ordered a lamb burger, he had chicken pesto. It all came out very quickly, and was amazing. The burger was delicious, I was very happy with it, and my boyfriend said the pesto was great as well. It was a very good experience, I highly recommend going. read more

If the service was somewhat existent and the food somewhat worthy of swallowing i would say hell yeah it was worth the straight out of hostel poorly light dingy looking we serve soilent green here atmosphere. Alas the service is so bad you wonder if you need to throw a coffee cup at someone's head to remind them that they are at work and you are in fact a paying customer and the volume of traffic or people eating should be a giveaway that food is not prepared, delivered or bought daily. Have never had a night here where i wasnt agitated with some form of basic restaurant operation. I get it. I do. You want to hire good looking, tight clothed wearing women to work for you. I am not against this concept nor could i be as a man...but beneath the soft veneer of poorly lit mystiko you can still see that your rude, unqualified and unskilled at anything resembling social skills waitress is nothing really to look at, not that i am, but there should be something redeeming going on...nope, nothing. Needless to say unless i am shit faced and in the mood to wait forever for watered down drinks, crappy not so fresh food and a server that makes me wonder if the owner was blind, just as rude or as inept in the service industry!?!...i will just pass this stripmall nightmare of adidas tracksuits and cologne/perfume drenched hell. read more

This place has very good food for being a European bar, very dark inside..... I think they want to either mellow people out or cut down the ComEd bill. On Mondays they have free pool and a restaurant.com coupon that is generally published. For drinks, it's mostly imports on Tap, no Domestic lights (which I normally drink). My Grey Goose Soda with Lime was watered down after drinking 4 of them and a glass of Cabernet, then driving home afterwards perfectly sober. read more
