I am so happy The Lucky Duck is back open! The food is as good as I remember, maybe even better, as they have all the old favorites and new menu items to try! The portions also seem larger, so you're getting a good value. I'm glad they are in a bigger space (The Gallery restaurant). Expect me as a regular because they are back and serving some of the best bites on the North Shore :)

The space is cozy, and Lucky Duck relocated from a previous space into the Gallery in Lake Forest. Started off with some Black Garlic Deviled Eggs, these were extremely creamy, sweet, and addicting. The small plates like duck & bacon wontons were crunchy and sweet too. If you see crispy Brussels sprouts on the menu, chances are they'll be good, and I'm happy to confirm that that philosophy was upheld here. Their Bulgogi Fries were topped with Korean beef, white cheddar sauce, sesame seeds and scallions, their sister restaurant The Peanut Gallery also does some good fries. Now time for their Bao Buns because I think getting Bao Buns here is critical to experience both some soft texture and juicy flavors. The Big Pig is awesome, the coconut shrimp is super crispy, and the soy marinated steak was my favorite out of the 3. Now for the larger noodle bowls, we got all 3 options because more carbs means more happiness. The Mushroom Udon had a miso vinaigrette and their thick noodles are delicious here. Spicy Lamb Ragu had a medium heat level and was a cool bend of italian and japanese flavors. Now my favorite item of the entire meal was the Mac & Cheese that had red dragon pork belly cut into cubes, and it was creamy, milky, and I could've crushed that dish by myself. A large plate that we had fun eating was the Hanger Steak Ssam, which is their take on the Korean food where you make lettuce wraps with different condiments. Loved their cook on the steak, but it was time for their hyped up donuts. These had mango & tahini curd and covered in black sesame sugar, unreal doughnuts. Also their yuzu coconut cake was mildly sour and sweet, and overall we were very pleased with this place.

No luck needed, just delicious food and a great atmosphere! American-Japanese fusion, bourbon, and half the menu eaten in one sitting. Such a great experience at The Lucky Duck! The food is simply outstanding and beautiful. Started with the Duck Wantons which appeared to be steamed then finished in the pan. Delicious crispy shallots contrasted the delicate creamy filling with even more texture from the corn inside (sweet surprise). Next was the Chicken Karaage followed by the Okonomiyaka. The Karaage was my least favorite dish of the night and I would eat three of them if they were in front of me. Yes, this place is that good. The Okonomiyaka was my personal favorite. A soft pillowy Japanese pancake topped with kewpie mayo, bulldog sauce, crispy pork belly, and bonito flakes adding a salty briny finish to another dish with amazing textures. In the middle of the experience I annihilated the Kimchee Udon Noodles. The spice was perfect! The waitstaff asked if it was too hot as some customers have given that feedback. If you like spice this is the dish. Addictive heat in each bite! Round three featured four of the buns and they are all delicious and unique! Once again texture, texture, texture done oh so well! The better half and I disagreed on favorites and I would eat any of them any time of day. All are incredibly well balanced and the buns, the bao buns are so freaking good! Finished the meal with Miso Butterscotch Panna Cotta. You know what this had...texture! Crunchy pretzels on top of the smooth and airy panna cotta. Too notch! Service was outstanding with well paced delivery of dishes. Waitstaff was kind and attentive giving drink recommendations and checking on us the perfect amount. The chefs are right in the open reminiscent of a sushi bar. If you're a lover of seeing dishes created sit at the counter to watch them do work! The overall experience reminded me of a restaurant in NYC with its slender floor plan and intimate atmosphere. Given that it you still don't feel like you're on top of other guests. There simply aren't many, if any, other restaurants like this in Lake County! I can't wait to go back and try the other half of the menu. Cheers to The Lucky Duck!

Amazing new spot in Lake Forest from the team behind The Gallery and The Peanut Gallery...great cocktails like the bourbon slushy and amazing small plates that are super addicting.

You have to try the bourbon slushy. Fantastic. Tonight we had there ramen noodle special, shrimp tempura and bourbon slushies. Everything was great. The ramen had soft boiled egg, perfectly done and a smoked pork belly that was delicious. The sauce for the tempura was really good too.

We had reservations for 9pm and were able to be seated straight away. We arrived to find the address brought us to a barber shop. Fortunately, my husband had done some research and knew the drill--we made our way to a organ against a brick looking wall. On top of the organ was a bell--we rang the bell and shortly after the brick wall swung open and a woman came out to greet us. She had us play a tune on the organ and then brought us back into the speakeasy. The vibes are pitch perfect. Dimly lit with candles on tables and artful films playing on screens. We loved it. We were greeted straight away and brought water. You can also get a full meal here which we did not know but noted for our next visit. They had a special Valentine's menu as well as their regular cocktail menu. For my first cocktail, I got the paper plane which was light, lemony, and lovely with the adorable touch of a small paper plane pinned to the cocktail with a clothespin. For my second, I got one of their Valentine's specials which was essentially a Boulevardier made with a small float of mezcal on top. What an amazing addition to this classic cocktail! Truly, gave it added dimension, depth, and smoky flavor. I loved it. We also enjoyed their Valentine's dessert special, which was princess cake. It was a lovely blend of tart raspberry and warm almond--we loved it! The service was lovely throughout our experience. Get to it!

A lounge with a wall of vinyl that you can select from and have the proprietor play for you is just a really cool idea and I'm amazed that more places don't offer this type of nostalgia. There is a tiny bar up at the front that the owner sells water, sodas (bottles and cans) and alcohol. There is a menu of drinks available that the owner can make for you or that he has available in bottles and cans. There is no food available, but you are allowed to bring in your own. There is a small private room to set up a table of food, place some tabletop games and listen to the music, host a meeting, have small gatherings or other type of event. They do offer different events in the main room and for the birthday I attended there; karaoke was then offered later that night. It seems there are some regulars who turn out for that so it's definitely a great neighborhood spot for regulars and newcomers alike. They also offer some board games and party games to make the your time there a lot more enjoyable with fun games, great music, and good vibes. I can't wait to visit again.

We spent a good couple of hours here between drinks and eats. Considering how much we consumed, it was such a pleasant surprise to be under what I thought it would cost. The restaurant sits in a tiny strip on a very cool looking street. The hostess sat us quickly to the left of the restaurant, a little strip of booth style tables. The lights above the table were not lit. Phone flashlights were needed to see the menu (old folks). Time was 5:30pm. Unsure why, but we had the bartender as our server (Fred). He was lights out! Food. I had the skirt steak. It was ok. The amount of salsa accoutrement was too much, it was the only thing on the plate and matched the length of the steak. The salsa alongside the steak you could tell was not fresh, it had a dull grayish look to it, with no fresh vibrance to it. The potatoes on the side were ok, probably more suited alongside the steak. Overall I'd say, if the middle of the Shepards Pie was cold that tells me it's not fresh made to order, and the not so fresh salsa, they just need to tighten up. I think it's very close to a top notch restaurant in a sought after neighborhood.

We visited for tea with some adults and children this weekend…read more The room near the patio is gorgeous (the inner room is more on the cozy side). We were quickly seated with a reservation and the tables were lovely - gorgeous wedgewood china (even for the kids!). Greeted with prosecco for adults and sparkling juice for the kids. Service was really friendly and helpful with tea selections. There are about 4 options for children if they want tea as well. Food was good and there was a tower for the kids (their the older child at our table wanted the adult sandwiches...). Plenty of sandwiches and sweets. The scone actually was the standout though - orange cranberry - very soft and delicious. Customary lemon curd, jelly and cream - delicious. All in all, this was a nice, fancy time for tea but there were some negatives namely: no one ever asked if we wanted more drinks (I would have had a glass of champagne but no one returned or asked - I could have flagged someone down but was surprised at this level of hotel that service wasn't so helpful). We also felt rushed - I would have stayed longer to enjoy but get they were cleaning up our table quickly. Instead, we brought some of the treats to go. While the staff was friendly, they weren't really there a lot - I saw some tables get asked if they wanted more sandwiches - but we did not... and it wasn't because we had kids at the table because I'd say at the time we went, more than 50% of the tables had kids with them. We did get a nice little to go gift of tea, chocolate and a tea strainer. I'm conflicted upon returning just due to feeling rushed.... I always go for tea once a year at least and I've been to every fancy hotel in the city (and other restaurants) for tea and multiple hotels in Europe (Ireland, England) and this was the most European feeling but really felt less relaxed even though the surroundings were gorgeous.
