The best lunch cafe in the DFW! I like the Addison location off of Midway. The Salad Trio - with chicken, Cesar and seafood salad, is my favorite but if they have potato soup that day...that is what I am ordering. Try the the grilled chicken sandwich, roast beef sandwich, all the other salads too. Oh but do not forget the carrot zucchini muffin. Delicious. Eating at this place definitely brings back memories of spending Saturdays with my mother and grandmother. We would spend our days crafting together and pick up Cafe Max for lunch, splitting it three ways. Cafe Max offers up super fresh, super delicious salads. Before I went sans meat (with the exception of seafood), I LOVED their chicken salad - highly recommend this dish if you're into chicken. I now usually order a trio with the pasta and fruit salads and then either a cucumber salad, Cesar salad, or the seafood salad. Their are a few downsides to this place and if the food wasn't top notch I would take one more star away because some of these are pretty annoying - First of all, it's always crowded, but I guess that can be expected with food that's so delish! Secondly, they only accept cash or check - NO CREDIT CARDS EXCEPT AMEX! Keep in mind that the portions are HUGE and if you decide to split they charge $2.50. Also, they are only open until 3pm during the week and 1:30 on Saturdays, which means if you are craving this place for a late lunch or dinner you're SoL :( read more

I've eaten at this restaurant for years and it has consistently stayed very good. It is strictly a lunch place, and had a large noontime crowd. Go early! Food is served from a cafeteria type line. The menu is limited with several salad choices, as well as quiche. I've always chosen the Trio Plate ($8.95) of Seafood salad, Caesar salad, and Cucumber salad. My friend tried the quiche which she said was very heavy on the cheese. The salads are always fresh, and the portions are enough to share with a friend if you don't have a very big appetite. Or take half home for another meal. Each meal comes with a choice of a roll or a Zucchini muffin. Tea/ Coffee/ Water is serve yourself with free re-fills. However, the colas are in a can. No re-fills on them. The dining room is clean and cheerful, and the employees are friendly and efficient. Many people get their lunches to go. Its a good place for lunch. I went there around 12:40 pm for lunch on a weekday and it was fairly packed. I tried the chicken and provolone sandwich and beef vegetable soup. Both were tasty and I enjoyed my lunch. Clean restaurant. Friendly server at the salad counter. Why not 5 stars? well, it is a bit pricier on a soup and sandwich deal - no drink. $10 total. Another issue - not the restaurant's fault - the people who try to park here are ridiculous. Some take 2 spots, others dont know how to park.Hopefully it is not a regular thing. read more

Interesting name, long-time concept. Was introduced to Cafe max by a long-time Richardson resident work-colleague, and really enjoyed it. Tried the 3 salad plate (which was kinda overkill) consisting of a chicken salad, tomato/cucumber salad (the best I've had) and a fruit salad. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 i because they only accept cash or check .. and I had to leave to go get cash and come back ... the managers seem nice and want to help, but workers are quite rude (one girl in particular) lunchtime is BUSY, so if ordering take out, check your stuff and go early in case of a wait. Really though, the caesar salad there is so good. My friend who doesn't eat salad, loves it. The seafood one has crab and they give you a lot. This business is an oldie but goodie. I grew up coming here. We always get the salad trio for about $6-7 (I haven't been in awhile so I'm fuzzy on the exacts). Chicken salad is muy delicioso! It has strips of chicken, sliced apple, and chopped nuts (I think it's pecans but it may be walnuts). Then we also get the ceasar salad and the fruit salad. Carrot muffin (yum! I'd always eat mine and my mom's/dad's. My sister wouldn't let me have hers.) or bread roll (dude, go for the muffin!) included. Oh yeah, they have sandwiches too but I've never tried them. It's a cafeteria-style place. Get a tray, go down a line, point at what you want, pay for what you got, find empty table, and eat. No tipping necessary. Be careful about when you go. They are always open for weekday lunch (until 2 or 3 pm, I think). Not open for dinners. I think they started keeping their to-go store (right next door) open for Saturday lunch. read more

Been here many times. It is quick movement through the line. The food is handed out. There is limited choice in line. However, the food is plentiful, healthy, and fresh. I will always go to this place because the service is wonderful and you usually get in and get out. When time is running and I am in the area, this is one of the choices. I read a couple of negative comments with a chuckle. First of all, they decide on the food going out for the day. Check the menu and if you don't like it, then go away. As far as an ATM, who cares? When I hear cesar salad and chicken for lunch it doesn't sound that great but wait till you try this place! Cafe Max is one of my favorite lunch places! That staff is super friendly and they give you large portions! It always comes with a muffin or a roll and I always get the zucchini muffin! Seriously the best! They have different types of salads besides chicken. Chicken is just their most popular. They have seafood, pasta, fruit and a few others that I can't think of. If you don't like any of the salads you can also get a sandwich, soup, quiche, or lasagna when they have it available. All the soups, quiches and lasagna are all really good! I haven't been to Cafe Max in over 20 years, so I thought I would drop by while I was in Richardson, since I have very fond memories of great food and friendly service. So, I called the restaurant from my car, because I saw people waiting outside (I didn't know if I had to place my order online, place it inside, etc. in this Covid environment) A man answers the phone, and I ask my question about the ordering process. First he just says, "WHAT???" He then rudely replies, "Well, if you're still at HOME, you can place your order with me now, but if you're in the PARKING LOT, you have to wait in the line outside. Hey Batman: riddle me this...why the H-double-hockysticks does it MATTER TO YOU if I'm at HOME waiting or in my CAR waiting after a 2-hour doctor's appointment???? Customer service like this is why restaurants that are hanging by a thread in this Covid environment go OUT OF BUSINESS! No stars (wish that were an option) for Cafe Max so far: rude, rude, RUDE!!! I was utterly disappointed I have been coming to this place for about 17 now but today will be my last. I came in around 12:30 today and ordered 3 plates one with chicken and Caesar salad with have chicken and 2 plates of the seafood salad and Caesar salad. There was was a lady in her 40 who I later found out was the manager. I explained to her that I wanted the Caesar salad with no cheese because I can't have am allergic to cheese. She got the biggest attitude and said in an a very unpleasant voice "well how many do do not want cheese on" and I explain to her three she sighed under breath and roll her eyes like I didn't matter or my change was too much for her. So I go to the register and I asked the young lady who is her manager and they said she is. They proceeded to check me out and put the receipt in the drawer and said I didn't have to sign anything. But indeed I did the receipt they put in the drawer the tip and total part of the receipt was blank, the young lady kept saying you don't have to sign and I am thinking to myself. Do you really think I am just going to let those receipts go in the drawer blank. No way so I asked for them have them without put a tip amount our totaI. That would allow them to put whatever as the tip.can write the total down and put zero for the tip because the service that I received today wasn't worth a tip. Now mind you I order three plates you're supposed to get a roll or a muffin with each plate they gave me two muffins two fours and two napkins I guess I'm supposed to share with someone I I left and called to speak to the manager and a gentleman answer the phone he basically informed me that my concern was not important because they were having a rush lunch time at this moment so I politely told him no problem I will make a report on yelps. It pains me to leave this review as Cafe Max Richardson has been a favorite for 20 years since it was located at Campbell& Plano road. They are consistent with their food quality. Always excellent. They had been consistent with their service and friendly people until lately. I understand the pandemic has stressed all of us however recently my 35 year old daughter was also dealt a cancer diagnosis. She had just started her chemo and radiation one particular Monday and afterwards wanted that traditional family fave cafe Max after her treatments while she was near having moved an hour away. When we got there she had been pumped so full of fluids she couldn't make it anywhere else and begged to use the restroom. It was take out only so the lady told her no. When my daughter started begging and crying and explained her situation the lady (mind you this is the same lady that had been there almost the entire time we've been going there) puckered her lips up gave a snotty smirk and shrugged her shoulders and shook her head no. We were mortified and there wasn't any way she would make it to another place with a restroom. It was a hard emotional day and cafe Max always made us feel good. Comfort food if you will. My daughter started hyperventilating in a panic and another very nice lady came out and took to her to the restroom. Thank God. I tipped her well and made sure she knew how grateful we were for her. But that other lady's smirk and shaking her head no with a shoulder shrug was too much. We won't be back. We needed some compassion at that moment. If we do cafe Max again i will make the extra drive to windhaven. read more

I went to Cafe Max yesterday and I can truly say that I was not impressed. The salad was OK but for 10 bucks you should be able to get a smile when you pay your money. Don't act like first time customers are an annoyance because they ask a question about something on the menu. In addition, you may want to advise your staff to be a little more friendly to people from different backgrounds because all money is green and it spends the same. Also, make sure you are consistent with your portions because it won't do your customer's any good to see you ration out one customer's plate and then pile up another customer's plate for whatever reason. I won't speculate but the vibe was as fishy as the "crab meat".. Cafe Max left a bad taste in my mouth because of the staff. My less guilty restaurant when in need for somewhat healthier food. Must try their chicken salad, zucchini muffins, and cheesecake brownie. Delicious! The seafood salad is only krab ( fake crab) and dressing. The chicken does have a few bell peppers in it. The potato salad is just potatoes with dressing. I was very disappointed. read more
