For now, college football was on the bigscreen above me, staff was busy with all seats along the bar taken, and I looked thru the amazing food menu of Irish & UK style dishes, with some San Patricio dishes from Mexico! The San Patricio Brigade of the Army of Mexico in 1846 were Irish conscripts that deserted the US Army invasion into Mexico due to Protestant American officers not allowing the Irish troops to attend Mass in the Mexican cathedrals. Then, most of the Irish "deserted", to defend Mexico from this invasion dreamed-up by U.S. President Polk to create more new States for Dixie to expand (Polk was a slave holder). The Irish ran the line of cannons for Mexico to win one battle, but Mexico was running low on bullets & supplies by now, and doomed for a loss. (If the Irish had just waited 2 more weeks, it would have been over with). Alas, the US Army quickly executed 30 of the Irish San Patricios in a mass hanging, while a group were hot-branded a letter "D" on their faces for "Deserter". (If seen again in USA, anyone could hang them) However, an untold amount escaped into the hills of Mexico, and married into the families. The Saint Patrick's Brigrade has a monument in Mexico. And USA gained the territory that Polk wanted, while a junior Congressman named Lincoln shook his head, yet had plans of his own. Meanwhile, Mexico would have another revolution in 1910, and a young Irish Mexican boy would enter USA with his family to end up in Los Angeles where young Anthony Quinn became a promising young architect, married a 35-year old woman who arranged acting lessons for him, giving the movie industry a macho man star.
