I wish I can put a 3.5 because this place has Michelin ambitions but they have to crawl before they walk and hire better service to get there because they are holding themselves back with the current staff I encountered today. The staff seemed Very cold and transactional. But let's get to the good, the space is beautiful. It's different the decor is cute and dandy. Reminds me of a French cafe with an Asian twist. The plates are beautiful with art, the food portion was petite so I can smell a French influence. The general tso's tastes old school New York I like it a lot. The duck sauce tastes like mango and soy sauce seems organic. Would I come back? Maybe, if they are nicer but good luck you might have a better experience than me

Tried this place for the first time with our kiddo since it's next to the playground. I had no idea that this place was clean, spacious and so pretty inside! (I imagined that this was a to-go type of place). Great food- we had soup dumplings and other dishes I forgot to take pictures of but overall food was great. Service was great too. Food comes out fast. Glad that we have a nice spacious clean chinese place in the UES. Will come back again.

A great option for the area! They started off with a complimentary black bean paste app which was really nice. The meats were spicy and the tofu and fish were my favorite items. Would definitely go again to try more of their menu

Mostly delicious food, but some dishes (especially cumin lamb) too salty and others too sweet (spare ribs & chicken wings).

If you're dining at Buddakan, ask for Anja and Beau if you can--you'll be in the best hands. Easily some of the best service I've had in New York. 10/10.

Service is very fast and they kept the water flowing (spicy dishes really are spicy!), and the portions are huge. Though you have to pay extra for white rice ($3 a bowl), the overall value was reasonable for the main dishes. The restaurant is dark and elegant inside, with a large tv over the bar that was showing sports when we were there. It had a nice ambience.

The grilled pork spare ribs was good, but it was too little meat for the price. The scallion pancake was bland. The Peking duck was ok. The pork xiao long bao was bad. The skin broke easily with the included forceps and with chopsticks. It was hard even transferring it to my plate. The mapo tofu was bland. The la zi ji (spicy crispy chicken) was too spicy to eat. I have good spice tolerance, and I always eat la zi ji, but it was just too spicy. This was the only meat dish that was barely touched at the end of the dinner. The best dish was the cumin lamb. It was seasoned well and the lamb was tender. I wish they gave us more lamb though. The meat pieces were small. I've had much better Chinese food in dallas. I would not recommend this Chinese restaurant to anyone.
