This is my new favorite brunch spot in Berkeley! We found Cafe M just randomly looking on Yelp for a place to eat on our way home. The food did not disappoint, our server Sabrina was just awesome, and to find out it is family owned, made it even more special. The stuffed French toast is a must try and the Irish coffee was just right. We visited on 12/15/22 but still wanted to make sure this place knows how much we loved it. I don't want to write a bad review, but we ordered the simplest items, a BLTA and a Ruben sandwich, and both were sloppily put together, bland, and a waste of calories and $$. I would've just made a salad and a grilled cheese at home if I knew it was going to be so lackluster. My husband and I eat out a lot and have been putting in a lot of thought and $$ towards our purchases and supporting local businesses, but we won't be eating here until the patio reopens. read more

I love when my boyfriend and I agree! This is our favorite spot to get breakfast. He always gets something savory and I get the stuffed French toast Every Single Time. It has tons of fruit and a creamy yummy cheesy custardy filling. The bread itself is amazing and they cook it perfectly every time. I've been getting delivery during COVID and it's been going well. The restaurant has an outdoor dining area as well that's nice if you're not too lazy to leave the house to eat. read more

The Del Mar Crepe stuffed with crab cake, artichokes, and mushrooms was absolutely delicious. I ordered it because it was unique and something you cannot typically find at another restaurant. I was able to substitute the potatoes with fresh fruit at no extra cost. The coffee was not Blue Bottle but was still pretty good and gave me my much needed AM caffeine kick. The food at Cafe M in terms of variety, quality and value deserves 5 stars. The service however is a bit slow and the wait makes Cafe M less appealing. read more

What I ate: Eggs blackstone. Visit date: June 4, 2012 First time? O no, no, no. Cafe M is one of favorite brunch places in the East Bay. First they got me hooked on their clam chowder (a must try!). Today, they officially get the SAUCE BOSS AWARD for their house hollandaise on the Eggs Blackstone. This is by far the best benedict dish I have ever eaten. The English muffin was scrumptious, the eggs perfectly soft poached, and then, hold up, there's crispy bacon in the grilled tomato. I believe that their potatoes have gotten better, too. O man, let the hollandaise and egg yolk get all over the plate; you're going to want to dip your potatoes in it! read more

4.5 stars round up! Hands down one of the best brunch places ever. I've been here a couple of times, having tried some blue berry & banana pancakes, crab cakes benedict, salmon florentine, and the del mar crepe. Del Mar Crepe : best breakfast item you will ever have, anywhere!!! So freakin' delicious. It made us come back the 2nd time, but I completely forgot what it was called. I ended up ordering something different, and had our serve help us investigate what the item from last time was. We couldn't figure it out until we dug up our phones to show our "not so clear" picture from our last visit. She knew right away that it was the del mar crepe, so kudos to you!!!! Next time, I'll definitely order that. The pancakes were good. The salmon florentine was good, and the crab cakes benedict was pretty delicious. But I am coming back for you del mar crepe! Cafe M = Cafe Mmmmmm I met a group of friends here for Saturday brunch. We made reservations and were seated pretty promptly. The menu has great selections, ranging from sweet and savory, all in the $10-15 price range. I've been on a Mexican kick, so I decided to spring for one of the huevos rancheros dishes, stepping out of my scramble/omelete comfort brunch box. I asked the waitress for her suggestion and she said the Aztec was her favorite. She did such a good job describing the Chile Verde rancheros with the "chunks" of pork shoulder, my friend switched from her health fruit-yogurt-something-less-tasty choice to the loads-of-meat-much-more-tasty Chile Verde Rancheros. The food was great all around. The server was very very sweet, but a little inconsistent/forgetful about water and coffee. Fresh food. Amazing service. Great brunch/lunch experience overall! The boyf and I came in on a Sunday afternoon (around 1pm), but we only had to wait around 15 minutes! The place has great natural lighting, and has a light, summery vibe. We both ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad. The tuna was SO fresh, and served on a bed of lettuce, asian pears, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado, and scallions. The dressing was a homemade concoction of citrus flavors, so it was very light and tangy. NOMS :) Generous serving sizes too! This place was pretty great! So glad I found it on Yelp... We were a table of 6 and went on a Friday around 11:00a and were seated immediately. Initial service was immediate but after finishing and waiting for our check, we noticed our waitress may have been responsible for too many tables. Our breakfast adventures continue with Cafe M and it didn't disappoint. The hubs and I decided to bike it to 4th street and get a late brunch. The line outside this place wasn't too long..about a 10-15 minute wait. (mind you, this was after 1 o'clock so the brunch rush was probably dying down at this point) We scoped out the menu during our short wait and knew exactly what we wanted by the time we sat down. We ordered the double mimosa (fresh squeezed orange juice, potent and delicious!), the salmon eggs benedict (perfectly cooked salmon under 2 savory poached eggs with a side of pan fried potatoes (a large portion, nicely cooked meaty salmon filet and great tasting potatoes), the corned beef hash with poached eggs on top (filling, great tasting and a great mix of corned beef chunks, potatoes and vegetables), and only because we're pro piglets, we shared 1 buckwheat blueberry pancake (a pretty large size and good thickness, with fresh blueberries...very good). Their menu offering is only for breakfast/brunch and lunch. They have a variety of eggs benedict to choose from, so if eggs benedict is your thing, this is the place to be. We saw some people ordering the crab cakes benedict and they looked great. Next time, we will have to try that. They do have outdoor seating and the ambiance inside and out is casual and comfortable. Great place for sunday brunch!!! In a central location in the heart of Berkeley is perfect to eat outside, talk to your friends and walk around the area. I went with my friend from out of town to catch up and also eat. I had scrambled eggs, ham, bacon and jack. It was delicious. With potatoes and englsih muffin. The potatoes were amazing. My friend had a crepe and it was very good. We ordered some mimosas, original for me and pomegranate for him. Both were delicious. For my tastes I prefer the original. Came here for lunch with a friend on a Sunday. This place was pretty busy but luckily we only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. Nice selection on the menu, they had plenty of brunch items and a variety of sandwiches, salads and a burger. Prices were about a $10 a person and the food was not bad I tried the chicken crepe with pesto with potatoes which reminded me of something I'd order at Crepevine I liked the vibrant and cheerful vibe in here, good place to drop in for a brunch or lunch on a sunny day. Crab Cake Benedicts...GET IT!!! I absolutely love brunch time! Brunch is the best meal time there is; way better than that whole 4th meal thing in the middle of the night! I've passed this place up so many times in the past that it is ridiculous its taken me so long to grab a bite here. So I will start off with the amazing crab cake benedicts. They are full of lump crab meat and still crispy. The perfectly poached eggs with the rich hollandaise sauce make for the best bite ever with the crab cake! They have a crab cake crepe that is delicious too! So being the fatty I am, I also had to order the stuffed french toast with strawberries and bananas. The french toast was just the right amount of sweet and delicious! The pomegranate mimosa was ok but I thought it could have been more "pomegranate-y" in taste. Both times I have come here, the service has been amazing. The servers tend to be super chill and great with providing menu suggestions. Prices are relatively cheap for how great the food is! Came here on a rainy Friday morning and wow no long wait! There was a parking spot right in front waiting for us. Ah-mazing! Lesson: come when the weather sucks and you'll save a lot of time. There's a huge hype surrounding Cafe M, but I can't say that I completely get it? I usually come here when a friend suggests it. I'm always happy to comply because you can always expect to get a solid and tasty brunch. However, I've never found myself craving Cafe M so bad that I'll beg one of my friends to go with me. There's some interesting sounding dishes such as the Crab Cake Benedict, but boo I'm allergic to shellfish. Therefore, I settled for sharing the Eggs Benedict and banana pancakes with a friend. The Eggs Bennie were pretty great though I kind of wish that the side of potatoes was bigger. There was more empty space on my plate than I would prefer. Banana pancakes were tasteful, fluffy, and huge. There's so many brunch areas in Berkeley so maybe I'm being a little critical. If Cafe M was located in my hometown suburb full of chains, I would probably be going crazy over it. But alas there are many places closer and just as tasty I could walk on over to. read more

My friend and I were heading down to 4th Street and landed here. It looked pretty good so we decided to try it out. The location was down the street from everything else from 4th Street so it was secluded but it was nice and quiet also. I ordered the Turkey Club with fries and it definitely hit the spot. I should warn those who eat this, the bacon was pretty tough when I bit into it as well as the bread. Although, I am not complaining about the food so don't get it twisted now. The food was great and I am sure I will be coming back for more. My friend ordered the Corn beef sandwich with fries which looked delicious as well. Went here on a whim. Our original plan was to check out Bette's Oceanview Diner and it was a total madhouse. So, after a quick walk we saw Cafe M and decided to give it a try. Our waitress was really friendly and funny. They have delicious Chai Lattes (not sticky sweet like some places make it). I could have had 3 of them. Naturally I yelped some locations and after about 3 misses (due to holiday closing and parking) we hit this gem Cafe M. Located near the little hoppin' Fouth Street in Berkeley. As soon as you walk in the smell hits you. All the espresso brewin', oranges being squeezed and grillage of potatoes. YUM. We knew we hit the breakfast jackpot. You pick your own seat and they bring you a menu. We took one look and were already sastified because everything was a little bit different. As my friend said, "Not just bacon and eggs". She got the Eggs Milan with was scrambled eggs with gouda, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms... I think that was it. Delicious. Very creamy and eggs were cooked perfectly. It came with some homemade strawberry jam and those wonderful grilled potatoes. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. The sauce was rich and tangy and when you cut into the eggs the yolk ran through and everything and made it melt in your mouth. Get ready... the english muffin was SOFT! OMG. That is a feat when it comes to EB. I also got the slammin' grilled potatoes. The mimosas were made with FRESH OJ. You could totally tell. It was the perfect breakfast/brunch. The service was also attentive and very welcoming. Bumping Cafe M one star for my recent experience. The weather the past weekend was absolutely gorgeous so what better to celebrate that then sunday brunch. Came with some friends and this time around I ordered the classic egg's benedict and my friends ordered the del mar crepe (fresh crab cakes, avocado, fontina artichoke hearts, onions, mushrooms, and hollandaise sauce) and combo (french toast w/ 2 eggs sunnyside up and apple sausage) I love egg's benedict and it had been a while since I had my last order of them. Cutting into it was a highlight seeing the yoke break perfectly with the yellow mess pouring over the grilled pitt ham and english muffin. Hollandaise sauce... drool, drizzle more please. I've def had better benedict, but it did the trick nonetheless =). The potatoes left me unsatisfied again, sadly. I got to try some of the del mar crepe and man was the crab cake wonderful. Not sure why it's called the double mimosa, because it's in a pretty small glass. But it was really good! It was really tart which I like but my boyfriend didn't like it cause he doesn't like sour things. The beef in my corned beef melted in my mouth. It was so tender! But I thought the potato chunks were a little too big so they didn't have much flavor. My friend who got the eggs blackstone really liked it! However, my other friend who got buttermilk pancakes thought it was just okay Overall, the food was pretty good. The portion sizes are huge and the quality is good. I am a creature of habit. Working in a new location for 30 days means new food spots for my taste buds to explore. I'm so thrilled I stumbled across Cafe M!! Now, I ordered a cheese bacon burger and I'm sure you're wondering how anyone could possibly screw that up but folks do all of the time. Seriously. But this burger just crumbled and melted in my mouth. Really wonderful flavors and on a soft roll. It was so good that I'm back again. And upped the ante by having an Oreo Cookie milkshake. I don't care how many calories might be in it but it is the perfect treat and pairing with the burger and wonderfully flavored French fries. I recently discovered Cafe M this prior week. It is my go-to for brunch/lunch. It is so filling and consistent with the portion sizes. I love there Vanilla Cinnamon cream spread for there french toast and there slivered sliced potato's! So good! They even have multiple Benedicts. Definitely a fan fave now! read more

We have been to this spot for brunch several times and each time it has not disappointed. We tried the coconut French toast and eggs Milan and they were both amazing! I am not a fan of coconut but it was very subtle in flavor and not overpowering. The Eggs were perfectly cooked and also did not have an overwhelming pesto flavor as that can sometimes happen if too much is added in. They currently have a large outdoor dining area and a few tables indoors. Definitely recommend and will be back again! read more

Pretty standard brunch place with somewhat limited vegetarian options, though the staff is willing to make substitutions if requested. I've tried the Portabella Eggs Benedict and Eggs Milan Scrambler, both of which are decent but not necessarily my favorite. Would probably recommend the eggs bennie between the two. Finally! Another brunch establishment that you don't have to wait an hour for (hint Betty's diner on the other side). Dined on a Saturday morning and was seated with no wait. The waitress was bubbly and attentive. The wait staff was quick to fill our water cups. Prices are very reasonable and the ambience was bright and spacious and not overcrowded. Ordered the Benedict and the Twisted French toast (uploaded the pics). Great great great! The hollandaise is pretty damn good. The breakfast potatoes are thinly scliced, almost like scalloped potatoes - yummy! There's also outdoor seating for those with furry friends. The bathrooms are clean which is a big plus and the soap smells great! The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because we waited a little longer for our food, but it was worth the extra 10 minute wait. I'd definitely go there for brunch again!
