I've been to Landwer twice, once for brunch and once for dessert. Both experiences were excellent. The food is delicious and I just love the cozy, retro vibes inside. My FAVORITE thing is the chocolate sensation - OMG it's to die for. I'm not a huge fan of vanilla ice cream, but loved the ice cream that came with it. One downside of the post-Covid Landwer is that with the QR code ordering, you pay for everything (including tip) ahead of time. This caused a slight issue when they had run out of something we ordered and they had to update the bill. Also logically it makes more sense to me to tip at the end of the meal. The manager blamed the busboy on not putting down utensils ahead of time, and it appeared that the waitress was his girlfriend and he showed affection to her after my concerns were voiced. I'm a big fan of Cafe Landwer but it was my first time at this location! They are taking good covid precautions so I felt safe dining in. The menu is online and the tables are well spaced apart. This time, I tried the Vegan Shakshuka, Beet Salad, and the flat white. It was my first time trying their vegan Shakshuka and I have to say that it was good but not my favorite from them. It had good flavors but the texture of the vegan "meatballs" were quite mushy and I thought the sides that it came with (tahini and pickles) weren't as good as the variety you would get with the other shakshukas. The beet salad was amazing! It was very fresh and light, not overdressed, and the portions were actually big. Loved the combination of apple, beets, and the goat cheese with a sweet tangy dressing. Came here for the shakshuka since I'm no longer supporting a certain other shakshuka restaurant. I'm glad to say that this is a decent alternative. It's not as good, but it's good. I personally love that there are so many ways to customize your order with different types of meat, veggies, and bread. The drinks are also super satisfying. The Nutella hot chocolate is SO homey and perfect on a cold winter day. The Sahleb is a milk pudding type of drink and is sweet and also a must get. The fluffy pancakes are a treat with little sides of whipped cream, syrup, fruit and Nutella. The salads are also great, especially the chicken with avocado, egg and fried artichokes. I appreciate they are back to taking orders with servers and not the QR codes. On Sundays I recommend making a reservation around brunch time. I really like the food here. I have been here multiple times and have ordered the pancakes each time. They taste great, not too sweet, and are thick and well cooked. The sakshuka is really good. The eggs are usually cooked somewhat thoroughly which I like, but I think that if you want it softer eggs you could just ask for it. I also tried the cream and mushroom pasta and the chicken schnitzel. The pasta was nice and creamy, and the schnitzel was juicy yet crispy. Not too salty, which I can appreciate since you can always add more salt. I would really recommend anyone to go for a nice retro chill brunch or lunch. This place is sneaky good. Love this location for eating outside on the patio, pickup, or delivery. Great fresh food with useful, nice packaging, that's low on plastic. Their al fresco patio is a hidden gem. The inside and patio very speakeasy meets 50-60s kitsch and euro-Israeli cafe. You can order on their website for pickup and with QR code's like most places, but you can also pay on the website/QR when dining in/outside, too. Very convenient. Service here is fairly good. It does have a little Euro-Israeli approach to ordering too--they're casual and don't wanna get up in your space. So if you're in a hurry or want to order right away, tell the host/ess when you're seated. The quality of the food here is impressive. Things are fresh with vibrant colors. We could eat the pita for days--so fluffy and chewy. Yum. We usually get the hummus with Jerusalem artichokes/sunchokes. Nice and crunchy, good kick, and love the tahini on top. The halloumi here is legit. The pastas are surprisingly good. The arais lamb entree is savory and delish. The burger is sizable, always a nice medium-medium rare, and comes with a aioli topping. The chicken shawarma is nice, too. The greens side is garlicky and a good al dente. The turkey bacon is the best turkey bacon we've had. The drinks are nice. Good list of beers on tap. Nice tea selection. And don't sleep on the shakes--Belgian chocolate is the best. Price is not aggressive. You won't get by on just a few bucks but it won't wipe you out either. There is a QR code that you scan to view the menu. We arrived right around 3, so the menu was glitchy- as it was transitioning from breakfast/lunch to lunch/dinner. However after reloading, the issues were resolved My friend and I both ordered the halloumi shakshuka. The shakshuka was delicious! Chocolate Babka ($6.00) $6 is too expensive for the size of the piece that you get. The bread itself is fairly sweet, as is the filling (which seems like chocolate mixed with something else?) It's dry and flaky in some spots and moist and chewy in others. It's not super buttery. I would recommend getting a Trader Joe's Chocolate Brooklyn Babka over this ($5 for an entire buttery and delicious loaf!) Nutella Rosalach ($12.00) 17(!) chewy pieces of rolled up dough filled with Nutella. My friend and I made our way over here for some Sunday brunch, excited to give this new addition in Cleveland Circle a try. Especially with the Middle East/Israeli speciality, I was excited to try out a place that promotes a unique cuisine that is not common in the area! First impressions--I absolutely love the atmosphere here. It gives off some serious retro diner vibes, but with some modern touches with the greenery and cute signage. It was nice to see a mix of college students and families dining here, adding to the cozy and familial feel of the place. However, I'm sad to admit that I found the food to be a tad underwhelming. I ordered the Eggs Benedict Florentine, which was just okay. At other brunch places around the area, Eggs Benedict easily fills me up because of the portion size + the addition of sides such as home fries or toast that make for a more filling meal. At Cafe Landwer, my two eggs benedict came with a small side of salad, which sadly did not leave me feeling completely satisfied. For a price of $11, I know I can pay that same amount somewhere else and feel as if I got my money's worth. I also wasn't impressed with my Nutella Old School Milkshake... while it was indeed tasty, I've had better Nutella milkshakes with more prominent and rich Nutella flavors. Additionally, my friend and I found our waitress to be a bit cold and unapproachable. Granted it was a busy Sunday morning so she might have been stressed, but would have appreciated a smile or two! Glad to have a good brunch place right in Cleveland Circle. We came here on a Sunday around 12:30 and it was packed. I think we waited about 30 to 45 minutes before we were seated at a table. Their menu is extensive. You get a brunch menu as well as their regular menu, so many choices. We opted for the halloumi shakshuka and the Jerusalem sandwich and the sahleb as a drink. While waiting for our order, I glanced upon some pastries on the counter and got a sticky bun. We devoured it by the time our meal arrived. It was delicious! Coming to the food. We received our drink first. The sahleb, a hot milk drink topped with crushed pistachio and toasted coconut, was quite tasty. Next came the food items. Generally the tomato gravy in a shakshuka is too tangy but here it had some spice to it. The Jerusalem was just okay. It felt quite dry. I think it was their challah bread that I did not enjoy, a little too eggy for me. Also, customer service was a mixed bag. Our server didn't seem too friendly at first and didn't seem okay with the fact that we ordered two entrees for three people to share. But after 2-3 trips to out table where I also explained that we prefer to order less so as to not waste food, I think the interaction got better. So given everything (great ambiance, long wait time, okay food, okay customer service), I'm not entirely convinced I love this place. But I think I'll give them a second shot to see if it gets better. read more

I frequently order from Landwer but typically the Beacon street location. I love the food and hate to give them a bad review, but Landwer please please please just check to make sure everything is in the bag before you send it out. Something is always missing. A condiment, the salad, the bread. Last night we didn't get one of our entrees, tahini, and salad dressing but they did send an extra salad. We didn't get one Babka flavor we ordered and one piece was really tiny. I called the restaurant and they gave me a choice of sending out another entree or voiding out the entree. I chose a replacement entree and they said they would do that and void out the entree to make up for the inconvenience. Unfortunately the replacement never arrived. Please Landwer care enough about your customers to do a final check after you pack up a delivery order!! I have found the Beacon Street Landwer food and accuracy is better than this one, but there are still mistakes. I will never use this Landwer location again, but will probably order from Beacon street because I love the food. read more

We have lunch here whenever we visting the BC campus. It can be a bit crowded at lunch and you might wait but that is no different than anywhere else. My daughter and I are vegetarians and my wife and son are not. There are enough options to please everyone. I have found the veggies in their dishes to be plentiful and fresh. Well this place is a miss.... It tries to be much more than it can carry off. We are big eggplant fans. I ordered the eggplant tahini appetizer which is a traditional middle eastern dish with the eggplant mashed with tahini. Their version was a whole eggplant peeled and roasted with sauce on top. Which is interesting and I was excited for. But the eggplant was just not cooked enough. Some parts were soft and could be scooped out but 3/4 of it was hard and undercooked. The sauce was good but there was very little of it We ordered their signature Sinia Kabobs. Lamb and beef kabobs with eggplant tomatoes and red onions. Sound great... well no. Again another undercooked inedible whole eggplant just plopped down with too salty Kabobs in the middle of a pita. What is up with them and undercooked eggplants. No attention to detail. I ordered and espresso and it arrived in a large large coffee cup with just a few ounces of the coffee at the bottom and of course too cold. Today we ordered a "farmer's market cauliflower" roasted with silan (date honey) and served with fresh tahini. It was served as a whole head of cauliflower, carmelized at the edges and deliciously mellow throughout. 110%, couldn't ask for better! This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in awhile. I had heard great things about their lunch/brunch and was surprised when we were seated right away as walk-ins on a Sunday morning. We could tell right off the bat the service was going to be bad -- it took 20+ minutes for someone to get our coffee orders, and then one of the beverages did not come until AFTER everyone's meals had arrived. We had to ask 5+ times. Even though our waitress reconfirmed our orders for us, they seemed confused when they brought the food out as to which table ordered what. We were a party of 5, and 3 individuals got their meals in a reasonable amount of time, but 2 of us had to wait 45+ minutes and once our stuff was brought out the other 3 had long been finished with their meals. The worst part is, as we were sitting there without our food, many servers walked by and our own server did not check in on us. There was no recognition that 2 of our entrees were missing. They said it was taking so long because they ran out of potatoes -- or something like that. The potatoes were on the side. The food itself was also not very good. I had the turkey bacon eggs Benedict and it wasn't the worst Benedict I've ever had, but it wouldn't even rank as one that was decent. The hollandaise was thin, the toast was incredibly dry and crunchy, and the eggs were moist in ways that poached eggs should not be (the whites themselves were kind of slippery and watery, almost runny like the yolk itself). TLDR incredibly disappointing and we will not be returning. The waitress never asked how the food was, but if she did she wouldn't like the answer.
