I've been meaning to come here for years and glad we finally made our way in. The food was so good, the drinks were fantastic and the atmosphere was so fun. Although we went for a private event, I have a feeling the vibes are just as fantastic on a normal day so I'll have to come back and confirm. The service was also great even with a packed bar. Standouts are the arroz con pollo and the old fashioned.
For a night filled with live Cuban music, tons of salsa, great cocktails and delicious Cuban food then cafe La trova located in little Havana is the spot. The place is filled with Cuban nostalgia decor which makes you feel like you've been transported to the island. The Cuban food really surprised me with is creativity and flavor. The pulpo was cooked to perfection. Their Cuban sandwich empanadas and jamón croquetas brought be back to my childhood. The highlight for me had to be the ropa vieja with rice and beans. That was a 10/10 for its flavor, size of the plate and the price. I'd recommend that to anyone who wants to try great Cuban cuisine. Will definitely be making my way back for some more dancing and delicious food.
On May 1, 2026, my spouse and I visited Little Havana from California. I had watched some YouTube videos on places to eat. Cafe La Trova was AMAZING!!!! 5 stars!!! The empanadas and arroz con pollo was amazing!!! Some of the best food I've ever had! And our server was Manuel, such a friendly and knowledgeable guy. We'll definitely be going back to La Trova next time we're in Miami.
Cafe La Trova is a vibe. It was packed inside when we arrived and luckily got seats at the bar. The band was in full swing and people were dining, chatting, and dancing. We had to wait a bit to order our drinks as shortly after sitting down, the bartenders started playing musical instruments joining the live band and then they solely played. Such a fun and lively start to our night! We were able to order drinks after the bartenders finished. We tried a bunch - Diaquiri, Mojito, Presidente, Cubano Viejo, and La Trova Old Fashioned. They were all pretty good overall. We also got a bit hungry and ordered their Skirt Steak Ropa Vieja which was delicious. The meat was tender and flavorful. Such a fun place!
Cafe La Trova is a vibe. It's fun, lively, and very Miami. For a party of two, we shared the following: -jamon serrano croquetas ($13): with melty cheese and fig jam -queso frito ($15): fried halloumi cheese, tomato-raisin-Jerez stew with crunchy capers -empanadas -arrroz con pollo ($29): bombsrice, saffron, cerveza, free range chicken braised in its own juices To be completely fair, I thought the food could have been stood for a little more seasoning. The apps as well as our entree tasted very safe. Given the diverse crowd the restaurant draws, I get it. The food doesn't polarize any palette. We also ordered the chicken and rice because everybody on the Internet talks about it and it was pretty underwhelming. There just wasn't any oomph to the dish. I'd stick to the appetizers. I'd recommend stopping in for a drink if you're not ready to commit to meal. The dueling music action is super fun if you love live music.
Lovely restaurant with a unique menu and live music. Everything we had was yummy from start to finish. The music wasn't too loud like it has been at other venues in the area. Down the street you can get to the main drag and see a lot of different bars and restaurant. There is a nice ambiance and lots of seating but it was full. They get so busy that there is a 2 hour limit for the meal and they suggest one of the two bars after that if you want to stay longer to listen to the music. If you can't get a reservation, if you have an Amex Platinum then you can get one through the Global Dining Access program when booking through Resy. Bonus: you can use your Resy dining credits there if you have a Gold or Platinum card.
In short: Old world retro Havana meets contemporary Cuban Cuisine. Cafe La Trova from the outside appears to be a tiny Casita but once the doors open you are transported to a Bar in Havana. Live music on stage , tables of couples and families socializing and walls adorned with photos from way before I could remember . I knew instantly I would love it here. James Beard Award winning chef Michelle Bernstein collaborated with the famous Catinero Julio Cabrera to open Cafe La Trova in 2019. I'm glad it survived the pandemic because it took me years to finally come here. Appetizers: Lobster croquetas with a scampi aioli.. very unique.. I recommend them. Queso frito made with halloumi cheese... it was a nice Latin take. Delicious. Buñuelo de bacalao with an aioli dipping sauce... I'm not sure if I haven't had bacalao in a while but it was very salty ... I know.. it's salted cod but it was too much for me at the moment. Main dishes: I had a lechon... it was scrumptious of course and my companion had the Rabo Encendido pasta. The Oxtail was so tender I felt like you barely needed to chew it. Dessert: Michy's bread pudding.. very light and not too heavy like many bread puddings. Service was great and I command our server for being able to communicate in such a loud space. I repeat, it is verrry loud here. But I am completely fine with this boisterous environment.. I loved it. Chef Michelle Bernstein never disappoints. Good food, live music and an atmosphere that makes you feel alive . Come for the food and stay for vibe.
This place was highly reviewed on the internet so we had to check it out for some Cuban food. Its a cool spot with dim lighting, fun decor, and a live band starting at 7pm. It definitely gave the cuban vibes. Our server was great and I was honestly shocked how quick everything came out, both food and drinks. They had a great selection of food and everything we had was super yummy. I think i was most pleased by the price l. It ended up being about $60 a person which for drinks, appetizers, and entrees was not bad at all. Whether you are looking for a date night spot or a place for a large group, I highly recommend.
We stopped by the iconic Cafe La Trova for happy hour and it was packed! Nonetheless the servers were extremely attentive, we got our food and drinks quickly and they did not disappoint. We ordered the classic mojito and it really was one of the best mojitos I've ever had. The empanadas were also delicious. They had a live band and we danced, loved the happy hour vibe.
We were in town for the weekend and decided we wanted some yummy Cuban food Read the reviews and decided to give La Trova a try. From the moment we walked in we were treated like special guests. The lively Cuban music in the background, dancing bartenders, decor all make for a really fun night. We weren't that hungry but shared the stuffed Branzino, coconut rice and maduros. These were all yum! The mojitos were a little weak on the alcohol however.
I'll start with the positive! The bar experience is 5 stars, hands down! The cocktail menu is creative and interesting and the experience at the bar is awesome! We arrived early for our dinner reservation specifically so we could have time to sample some of the cocktails. We were able to sit at a 2-top and have table service included with the happy hour pricing! The server was also making drinks and despite the crowds at the bar and the intricacy of some of the cocktails, service was pretty quick and also very friendly! We started with the mojito and the Always Sunny in Miami. Both were excellent. The mojito was not too sweet and filled with fresh mint. The Always Sunny was a tad on the sweet side but beautiful to look at and very creative. Happy hour pricing is great - $8 drinks and a pretty extensive menu available! We ordered the gimlet and the margarita to take with us to our table. The margarita was spicy and a little smoky, almost like it was made with mezcal instead of tequila (it wasn't). The gimlet was tart and refreshing; a perfect pairing with food. We ordered off of the Miami Spice menu for dinner. It's a great value! The regular menu is very expensive and the Miami Spice portions are full size. However, I must admit that Cuban food is probably my least favorite cuisine. I find it heavy and bland. I had pretty low expectations and they were mostly met. We each had empanadas to start; Larry had the Cuban sandwich, and I had the roast potato. They were clearly handmade but were not warmed enough. Mine was cold inside. Next, Larry had the ropa vieja and I had the catch of the day. The fish was good; a thick, steak-y whitefish, on top of a bed of coconut rice with some plantains on the side. The rice was the true standout; creamy, slightly sweet, just delicious! The dish could have used a real vegetable on the side however. Also, the menu and the server did not note what kind of fish it was. Larry ate all of the ropa vieja, so I am assuming he liked it! For dessert we had the bread pudding and flan. I wish we had both ordered the bread pudding. I find the texture of flan off putting and there wasn't much flavor to overcome the texture. Along with dessert, we ordered the toasted coconut negroni and the La Trova old fashioned. Both drinks were an excellent way to end the meal! I found the service to be completely indifferent. It seemed like the server was annoyed and didn't want to be there. I don't think it was a case of it being too busy because there is plenty of wait staff. We opted not to have bottled water, so we weren't offered water at all. We had to wait a long time for the check, and when we were ready to pay, I had to go find the server to give her the credit card. They auto tip 20%, so I think the wait staff knows they don't have to put in any effort. The tables are super close together. I get that it's a popular establishment, but they could take out a few tables so you don't feel like you are right on top of your neighbors. The volume level is also terrible. Not just the band, which was super loud, but the music in between the band's sets is also at top volume, combined with terrible acoustics. I gave up trying to converse with Larry at all. I would come back here for happy hour and enjoy the bar snacks before heading somewhere else for dinner.

Great place for a date. Food was delish! A must to order the calabaza empanadas, ham croquettes, the leachon and the arroz con pollo!!! To end the night have both desserts flan and bread pudding. Now about the cocktails - the guayaba and mojitos but do skip la mulata. Loved the ambience and the live music. Will return for sure!!! read more

Stepping into La Trova feels like instantly being transported to Havana, Cuba. The restaurant's atmosphere is fantastic, letting you experience the vibrant life there. From the music to the delicious dishes, everything feels authentic, and the flavors are truly impressive. Of course, the staff are also warm and attentive. Our server, who was born and raised in Cuba, explained every dish in great detail and provided very thoughtful service, clearly introducing the prices of the dishes as well. I've ranted and raved about this place and also let my SO know they have vegan options. As she was with me in Miami this time, I made it a goal to come here and this ended up being a company dinner since a lot of us were in town. This time, there was live music and the ambiance was much more lively this time around than the last time. It wasn't as crazy as the first time I came last year but it was enough to really sell what I had been trying to explain to my SO when I came here the first time and why I really like this place. New favorite place in Miami!! Perfect place to come with out of town guests to show them some Miami flare! We sat at the bar and it was a great experience. You can order food at the bar but also you can stand up and dance to the live music. We did a line dance through the whole restaurant. The food was also great. Amazing experience!! I was in town for work and my friend brought me here. Said it was one of his favorites and he knew I'd like it. They had a live band too which was soooo special! they were amazing and added to the magic of La Trova. Dinner was fantastic! Every dish we got was amazing. Started with the ham croquetas and the prawns. Prawns were delicious! So flavorful. We then shared the ropa vieja. He's never had and loved it! It's my favorite dish. The meat was so tender and flavorful. And the coconut rice is a nice touch. Dessert we got the banana tres leche. I usually don't opt for banana stuff, but I love tres leche. This was amazing. We are here at Cafe la Trova for the first time and are having the most wonderful time! Food: we ordered the Peruvian ceviche, jamon serrano croquettas with fig jam, steak empanadas, lechon, coconut rice, rabo encendido pasta (oxtail), and flan. Everything was absolutely delicious, with our favorites being the ceviche, croquettas, and lechon (with the coconut rice)! Service: Bobbi was such an attentive and pleasant server! He was so great in helping us decide what we wanted and even allowed us to make modifications to one of our entrees to accommodate my obsession with maduros! Atmosphere: We love the relaxed but slightly elevated atmosphere. The live music is phenomenal and we are enjoying that everyone is clapping and dancing along! Cafe La Trova is a little gem in the heart of Little Havana reminiscent to earlier times in Miami. When the live music starts its not just a restaurant but an experience. Bar area is pretty large with extra seating overlooking the band and lots of space for people to start dancing to the latin tunes. Happy Hour which is on every day of the week offers a great selection of bar bites and drinks. Dinner menu has cuban inspired dishes and I was delighted to see some vegetarian as well as vegan selections available. Definitely worth the visit and experience. read more

I love Cafe la trova, voted number 13 North America's 50 Best Bars in 2025 and 2024, this place is such a vibe and a must go to whether in town visiting or if you're a local, be it for drinks at the bar, happy hour, dinner or the after hours party in the back bar, this place is always entertaining. I can say I've been here for all the above and most recently for a dinner event hosted by The Hungry Post. This event was a collab with Cafe la Trova , Sra Martinez and Marc's Pizzeria. An abundance of food was served, family style, paired with 3 different Don Q inspired cocktails. Without going into details of each dish, I will let the pictures do the talking, everything was as delicious as it looks! The spicy shrimps, the buttery branzino presented so artfully, Marc's pizza's (which I heard is trending now and can be a little hard to get) to the Oxtail Paella with melting bone marrow, I ate until I couldn't no more! The waiters were very attentive and courteous. And the high light of my night was getting to talk to chef Michelle Bernstein herself and tell her how much I enjoyed my evening and her creations. All while listening to the live band playing on the main stage and also enjoying the performance the bartenders put behind the bar. Dinner and a "show"! read more

Good Cuban food, fast and friendly service, and a cool music set up for lively ambiance. Made ressies about a month in advance for a group of 4. We shared beef empanadas and they were tasty and hot, could have eaten another round of them. For my main I had the chicken and rice dish and enjoyed the bright flavors of the lemon and olives, but the whole dish tasted pretty homogenous and the breast was a bit hard and dry. I loved the bite I got of my friend's oxtail pasta and honestly wished I had run with that dish instead - very flavorful, a bit creamy and tender. All the cocktails were well mixed, but leaned more towards the classic side. The banana tres leches cake was a sweet way to the the meal and I particularly liked the corn flake crunchies. It comes in two shot glasses so it's easy to share. I don't usually care for banana flavored things, but this was good. Overall solid meal to get my Cuban fix in Miami. read more

I had the good fortune to dine at Cafe La Trova, the popular Cuban restaurant in the Little Havana area of Miami, Florida, while I was in town to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix race in May 2025. Wow - what a great experience - amazing authentic Cuban food and drinks, live Cuban music, superior service, and great ambiance and decorations. Be sure to try the croquetas (we had the spinach and feta) and the empanadas (we had the sweet corn and chicken)! I will definitely come back to this gem! Note-it's pretty loud inside. read more

Came for Miami spice dinner 2024 Shares a $45 three course meal and also ordered an additional entree. Pizza croqueta: inside tasted like a mashed up version of a pizza hot pocket--which personally I love. 4/5 Lechón: decent, juicy, came with yuca. 4/5 Flan: I have to admit that I was disappointed that the flan was a smaller portion than pics seen years ago from Miami spice, but otherwise tasted good. 4/5 Rabo encendido pasta: oxtail was fatty and the meat juices really enhances the taste of the pasta. My favorite for the night. 4/5 Service was good. Absolutely loved the ambiance with the live music. I placed a reservation a few days beforehand, and we were seated right by the stage. What a cute place! Absolutely loved the empanadas and the lechon (braised pork shoulder - sadly the photo didn't come out), and also enjoyed arroz con pollo and the banana tres leches dessert, which sort of reminded me of banana pudding. Jamon croquettes were just ok. The mojito also wasn't bad but I think other reviews calling it the best mojito is a bit of a stretch. read more

My guy and I were in town from Cali for Godfrey's comedy show. I love Cuban food and was excited to try this restaurant based on the menu and reviews. It's a lively place with a nice happy hour menu. They also have live music, which is a huge plus for me. We had the Cuban sandwich empanadas and the steak empanadas. Both were delicious. We were accidentally served chimichurri sauce and it was amazing. This restaurant is a must try. read more

We went for a birthday celebration, and could not have done better. As we entered, the classic Cuban music from the stage was immeditately beautiful and inviting. Among the standards, "Besame Mucho," and "Guantanamera." It was like a bar in Havana, but with air conditioning. The room is actually ingenious, taking the kind of '50s diner and seemingly random doors, ceiling tiles, seemingly mismatched tables and chairs, and chrome bar stools that remind you of every family Cuban restauant in Miami, but it is harmoneous, comfortable, and works as a bar/restauant and entertainment venue Our food was delicious. We came for the bar and the night life. This place is really hard to call for reservation update and I notice why when I got there: it's just packed pull of people. Luckily we skipped the dinner and went to the bar in the back which is first come first serve. So that's a huge plus instead of waiting in line. The music vibe is amazing and the bartenders are side musicians with the canteen. I ordered the drink but 80% of it is ice. And drinks have automatic 20% service fee!!! What in the world???? Outstanding experience. Terrific food, excellent music, and high energy. Make reservations as far in advance as possible. You've been warned. This is a very popular (Cuban) restaurant. Valet was $15. You might find street parking but the valet was quick and easy. The live Cuban music was terrific. The bartenders will occasionally dance and it's a real show that you don't want to miss. There were customers dancing everywhere, both in the bar area and in the dining room. I half expected someone to dance on the tables. Our server was not overly personable but he was efficient so our service was fine. For cocktails, I tried La Chancleta (rum, honey ginger syrup and lime juice) and it was fine. However, the mojito was the BEST one I've ever had. Seriously, get it. Get it now. The food was wonderful. We could have eaten and eaten and eaten for days. The empanadas are big and wonderful. Order a bunch of different ones and enjoy. The skirt steak ropa viejo was wonderful. The meat was tender and incredibly flavorful. The rice looked ordinary but was moist and delicious. We had no room in our bellies for dessert. I wouldn't say this is a family residence but kids are definitely permitted. I doubt they have a kids' menu but a kid with a semi-adventurous palate could eat well here. This was a very memorable experience. read more

What a tremendously special experience to visit Cafe La Trova! If you want a fun and energetic vibe that transports you to Havana, this is the place for you! We walked in around 8:45pm and it was packed. No reservation so we tried to do a walk-in (definitely make reservations in advance if you can). There was live music as we entered and it was so lively and fun - people were getting up and dancing from their tables, people just enjoying the atmosphere. We lucked out and grabbed a seat at the bar which ended up being great because the bartenders not only make fabulous cocktails but they are often part of the show with the musicians and also have their own tricks in making some drinks you don't want to miss. In terms of food we ordered both the Cubano empanadas and the ceviche that came with tostones.... Both were absolutely delicious! If we were hungrier we definitely would have ordered more! Coming from out of town and I knew I wanted some authentic Cuban food. Luckily, I was recommended this place from a family friend and I wasn't disappointed. Our reservation was at 7, but got there a little early to enjoy happy hour accompanied by light bites. We had the cheese and leek empanada and the malanga. Both were phenomenal. The drinks came out fast and the service was impeccable at the bar. For dinner I had the skirt steak ropa vieja and my partner had arroz con pollo. Both were absolutely delicious. Ambiance - this is a party place. Standing room only. There is a stage where the band plays Latin music and opposite the stage is the bar where the bar tenders were dancing along the music. It was so much fun! What a wonderful introduction to Miami Beach! Service - food was served promptly and the server was very friendly and attentive Food - we were a group of six. We ordered gambas ajillo (2), rib eye cowboy steak, whole snapper, rabo encedido pasta (my favorite), maduros (2), miraflores, beet & plum salad ( fantastic), Hemingway special (2), side of white rice, pavlova and flan. We brought a bottle of wine and we were charged $35 for corkage. Everything was delicious! Our bill was around $440, inclusive of a 20% tip. Love, love this place! read more
