I wasn't planning to go to this place as I randomly picked it up as we were starving with my friend. This meal was one of their only vegan options, so I chose to try it out. It might look very boring, but it was one of the most delicious things I've ever tried out. The mix of spices were incredible and I don't think I've ever tried out anything like this. My friend loved her meal as well and we both think that this ended up being the best restaurant in Miami where we went during this trip. I thought my bill was high but I was a single sitting by myself on a Thursday Night. Never thought they would add 20% automatically. Welp, they did and I definitely overpaid for everything. It's on me but buyer beware. 3: 1) Dark & Stormy followed by a Mezcal Mule hit! We're rolling.... 2) My favorite Cuban dish is Lechon Asádo (braised pork dish). This is the -2 stars. I need my braised pork to have a little char, little crispy fatty edges, and a salty/mojo finish. Lechon was cooked to a very moist tender and good consistency just not how I like it. AND they are my stars so I will do what I want! 3) Accoutrements were done well (White Rice, Black Beans, and charred plantains). No complaints here. If I could give half stars, I'd give 3.5. It wasn't bad but I wished the experience could be better! Hubby and I went on a Saturday the weekend of Art Basel, so it was definitely busy as expected. We even felt bad it's just 2 waiters for the entire restaurant, with one of them literally RUNNING from kitchen to table and back. I was afraid he'd trip with stuff in his hands and possibly injure himself and someone else. But all that chaos was understandable. What brought it down a couple stars is the food. Their namesake Cuban sandwich was not up to par, with the pulled pork cold and lacking flavor. The sauce it came with, on the other hand, saved the entire dish but it shouldn't rely on the sauce that's actually more for the maraquitas. The ropa vieja tacos were okay, meat also a little dry but at least it had more flavor than the pork inside the sandwich. The saving grace of this spot are the drinks. Unfortunately the names weren't memorable but they were delish! And I absolutely LOVED the ambiance and vibe. Felt like we were eating outside Tia's patio in the Gables, but next door to the Dorchester to remind us we're actually in Miami Beach. Lastly, I did see before we sat down that one of the waiters was clearing out our table. He grabbed a napkin and it fell on the floor, but he immediately picked it up... and I saw him wipe our table with the napkin that touched the floor. I won't be a super strict stickler because let's be real, even in other restaurants, they use the same rags dirtied from table to table so it's almost about the same. But it's worth mentioning because if this restaurant wants to be known for quality, it needs to reflect it. Big hugs to those waiters though. Stay away!!! This is the McDonalds of Cuban food! My wife and I were excited to celebrate Valentine's day with some Cuban cuisine but this experience fell short of short. I asked the server for his recommendation between the pork and the beef dish (21-22 on the menu) and he said "I like 21 better because 22, for me, is dry". Well, the only thing drier than the pork (21) is the Sahara desert. We also ordered an appetizer and it came out at the same time as the food. The server came out, asked how everything was and we had not really tried anything but a bite of the tostones and the boiled yuca. We said "fine" and asked for salt and the yuca didn't have any sort of seasoning. My dish was dry, my wife ordered the Cuban sandwich and it was not only dry, it also had no mustard (who makes a Cuban sandwich without mustard?!). It also had a big blob of fat in it (you can see it im the picture), DISGUSTING. Zero attention to detail. I walked in, grabbed the server and asked for the check. When he came to the table I told him about the food and he said "I asked you and you said it was fine" so I had to explain that we had had just one bite. I showed him the plates. Apparently he didn't care. No apology, offer to speak to a manager or to do anything to make it right. Horrible experience, terrible service and even worse food. Stay away. Recently visited and LOVED the vibe! The ambience is gorgeous! Very cozy, and decorated so well! They had a lot to choose from, and decently portioned vegan options. Their black beans were my favorite! I ordered one of the vegan dishes with the rice, and it was okay. It was grilled veggies, delicious black beans, and a healthy portion of rice. I just felt the veggies were a bit bland for my tasting, but it was super healthy! They have a huge cocktail list and something for everyone. Finding parking in South Beach is always an "aventura", and Moreno's Cuba is no exception. They offer valet for $10 an hour, but I decided to cruise around a bit and ended up parking at Collins Ave & 13th Street, where about $8 covered four hours--"una ganga" compared to valet. Municipal parking is limited, but arriving on a Sunday around 5:00 PM, with plenty of time before our 6:00 PM meet-up, worked perfectly. Just remember to follow the posted signs (head-in only, max four hours) unless you want to risk a ticket... or being towed! Moreno's Cuba sits right beside a hotel, and they share the restroom facilities. One big plus: it's pet friendly. I brought my chihuahua, who was quietly sitting next to me--until our fantastic Dominican waiter showed up, and suddenly Jazzy decided to assert her territory. Down to the floor she went, where she quietly stayed during dinner! We were a group of 6 hosting friends visiting from outside the U.S. Normally, for Cuban food, I'd head to Little Havana--not South Beach. But they picked the spot, and honestly, Moreno's surprised me. Our table ordered ropa vieja, vaca frita, and I went with the Cuban ceviche served with plantain chips. With Cuban roots myself, I had never heard of Cuban ceviche, so my curiosity won. The fish chunks were generous, the flavor bright and tangy, and the salty plantain chips tied everything together beautifully. Two of our guests had never tried Cuban cuisine--one ordered vaca frita and the other ropa vieja. When I asked which they preferred, they couldn't make up their minds; both plates were spotless by the end. That said it all. Portions were solid--not as hefty as Little Havana, but more generous than the tiny touristy servings you usually get in South Beach. I ordered a freshly squeezed lemonade, refreshing and perfect for a late Sunday afternoon. For dessert, I treated myself to arroz con leche that tasted like pure nostalgia--sprinkled with cinnamon and topped with cinnamon sticks, just like my Mima used to make. The rest of the group had coconut flan and loved it. Prices were reasonable for the Beach, and both the service and the food were on point. My only downside of the night: the little water container for my dog fell and cracked in half. Objects can be replaced; memorable experiences cannot. With the fall finally blessing South Florida, I can see myself returning to Moreno's Cuba. read more

The atmosphere at Moreno's Cuba is maybe the only positive thing I can say about this place. It has a nice vibe and cozy, inviting setting. The food itself was just okay, nothing bad, but nothing memorable. I paid $22 for a modest portion of shredded chicken, rice, and beans. For that price, the amount of food I received felt like a slap in the face. You get two or three times as much food for far less a cost at places like Pollo Tropical or La Granja. I know this is comparing apples to oranges. This place was supposed to be a slightly higher end Cuban restaurant. The comparison shows just how disappointing the portion was. The payment process is awful. I understand automatically adding gratuity for six or more people. It was only three of us. The restaurant uses a tableside card reader for payment. I usually pay with a card, and tip servers in cash. During checkout, I saw an option labeled "CASH TIP." I reasonably understood that to mean the included gratuity would be removed and I could tip the server in cash instead. Nope. The original gratuity stayed on the check, and the server received extra money that night. Yeah, I should have looked at the check more closely that evening. However, the wording and payment process felt unnecessarily confusing and left me feeling misled. Why even offer a "cash tip" option? Better yet, stop automatically including gratuity for less than six people! This experience left a lasting negative impression and felt like another over-hyped Miami Beach restaurant relying on customers not carefully examining their checks. What a great "hidden" gem. Tucked just off the Main Street, once you enter, the courtyard sets a different mood from the main strip with cozy seating tucked amongst trees lit with color lights. The staff are so friendly, welcoming you to pick a seat of your choosing if you wanted to sit outside (pending availability--if filled up quickly over the hour+ I was there), which I did. They also thoughtfully shared their bug spray when they noticed me batting away mosquitoes, and even charged my neighbor's dead phone for them--above and beyond service before I even got to ordering! They were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, quickly letting me know the most popular dishes and were able to tell me more about others. I ordered Emlo's vaca frita, a shredded steak cooked to just a slight crispiness, exactly as described on the menu and exactly as I'd been hoping for. I had a Saoco to accompany it, which came out in an adorable coconut cup--and held a lot more than it looked like it would. It is literally by a hotel so walking into the courtyard you find this shack with an old convertible outside and a small sign of Moreno's Cuba. The light strings and outdoor courtyard gives off the Latin Cuban vibe for sure and the inside shack with legacy old radios and vibrant colors brings this cool and relaxing restaurant. The waiter was very much the only one holding the fort serving us the meals for our party of 10. I ordered the empanadas and the fish ceviche with plantain. The cilantro sauce was the saving grace because it was mouthwatering amazing. Moreno's Cuba combines an eclectic style where vintage Miami meets Old Havana. Everything about this place is authentic from the old-school car outside where you can post a photo app to the lively music coming from the bar. Everything about this place is spot on this is where you need to be if you want to unwind relax or even dance a little bit. There's a 1950s Chevy Bel Air that adorns the walkway. Every December we visit for Art Basel we make sure to stop in at Moreno's when we visit the INK art fair. I got the empanadas Piccadillo and the tostones Ropa Vieja. The empanadas were flaky and filled with flavor, the sauces they came with were amazing. The tostones were like stacked bites on the crispy plantain.
