Cafe la Boheme has one of the friendliest staffs and most welcoming seating areas I've come across. Located in the mission, this can be the perfect stop for a beer or an essential pick up for a coffee. They have plenty of snacks and menu options. I came to this place as I was passing by. There were a few patrons so I decided it should be okay. Keep in mind there is street parking that you just pay for by phone. This cafe isn't in the best of neighborhoods. This is a quiet cafe with a few people studying/working. The customer service was bad, worse than expected from a small business. The man did not acknowledge my presence for a few minutes. When he did , he asked "what did you want?". He was annoyed when I had a question about a specialty latte. I got an almond milk cappuccino for 5.50. I saw him use Kirkland brand almond milk as he made the drink. The espresso tasted decent, not very strong. We just needed some respite from pavement pounding, PM heat and busyness of Mission St and happily stumbled in for a very chill hour, settled down to one of the 20 some wooden tables, phone charge, a cool pint of cardamom ice tea (non sweetened) and a very good strong Americano and coffee cake (buttery large soft crumb cake with dense packed sugar crust top, the best to date! Couple TVs, just small one on with c-caption Food Network, and acoustic flamenco playing. No a/c but tall airy space with door and window open. Vintage paint and mismatched well used chairs provide the Bohemian but can't fault the goods. Bathroom Break - building maybe 1800s but the restroom is state of the art. Super chill throwback Mission oasis for basic drip coffee, affordable nibbles, and reliable upgrades to your usual array of espresso drinks, pour-overs, or unfiltered Turkish coffee. Also a decent complement of beer and wine, though that's usually not my purpose here. Bottled kombucha and juices in the fridge case if that's your thing. Good for a light lunch or afternoon snack. I go back years with these folks. The comfortable well lived-in space and fantastic location half a block from the BART station really make this place. Large beat-up antique-looking tables, big South-facing windows, and alcoves on either side of the door. High ceilings, which helps in the event they mount a TV for an international soccer tournament, which has happened. It's gotten harder to find plugs and they now issue one-hour tickets for the Internet, and they have one of those Space Age Good2Go restrooms. Still I wind up coming in, setting up to work, and staying far longer than I expected. Really about as good as one can hope for in preserving old SF feel in the midst of recent change. Maybe it's like the Marina Safeway where I am convinced they make the aisles too narrow so you can set hit on people you find attractive by ramming your cart into them. So perhaps the tables are close together to encourage casual small talk that will eventually lead to a dinner date at a taqueria followed by the horizontey. Regardless, my heart belongs to Jamie, and he's not into coffee, so leave me alone, will ya? I just want to sip my cup of joe in peace, man. Otherwise, I like this place right across from the 24th Street BART station because it offers a Middle East-meets-Mexico meld of coffee and food in their eclectically comprehensive menu. I had just eaten a full plate of goulash next door at Paprika, so I was not in any condition to have one of their Greek Omelettes or a Middle Eastern Plate. However, I took the liberty of trying their signature drink, the large $4.25 glass of the Mexican Mocha, most definitely a delicious blend of espresso and chocolate with plenty of milk. Both were just ok, the coffee came in a large glass mug and had too much milk and was in need of more espresso. The croissant was very heavy compared the ones I have tried before. Cafe La Boheme is your no frills, basic, mostly traditional coffeehouse with a kick of bohemian. The decor has an eclectic collective uniformity to it. I can't categorize it in my head, but sometimes things are better left that way, instead, enjoy the moment! Location is in the heart of "The Mission" right smack across 24th St. Bart Station. There are plenty of metered parking, but I highly suggest utilizing the neighborhood's two hours free parking instead only a few blocks away. Boheme is a full service coffeehouse serving meals all day including soup, bagels, eggs and a handful of other variety eats and open most late nights! My cappuccino(double shot) is not bad. Not what I'm used to but drinkable. They do provide you a huge space to call your own to read, to study, or to simply catch up with an old friend. Too bad they don't have outdoor seating (probably a city ordinance) as it would be nice like today to seat outside and soak in all that "Mission" culture. If a suggestion box is visible the next time, I would suggest a couple of comfy sofa since space is not something their lacking. When I moved to the neighborhood in 1995 I was both vegan and not making enough money to go out much. I came to consider Cafe La Boheme a home space, with the affordable vegan food, plentiful seating, chill vibe, and manager Awad's consistent friendliness. I no longer live in SF but I've dropped by whenever I'm in the neighborhood over the years and-- while the neighborhood has changed-- La Boheme still has good food for good prices, plentiful seating, a chill vibe, and the manager's consistent friendliness. Although the bulletin board no longer has the weird art event fliers and local political handmade signs -- advertising BART fare protests & etc -- everything is a professionally designed & printed poster -- it's still my favorite Mission cafe. This is one of my default places to work with wi-fi and a variety of options to eat at a cafe near BART. Usually, I get the falafel sandwich or lamb gyro with the lentil soup and try one of their drinks. Service is fast and courteous, but not necessarily helpful for selecting among the vast choices. Conveniently close to the bart station to grab a small coffee for just $1.75!! Wahhh!! This cafe isn't like the typical hip cafes that has popping out lately. This large and open cafe contains many tables for small or large groups to enjoy. They have a large variety of coffees, teas and also food! Their mocha is really chocolatey, creamy and light and if you get their freshly brewed coffee, it's usually so hot that it'll burn your throat, so be careful! The coffee and space, itself, left me unimpressed. The tables are a bit dingy, but that is what is expected from the Bohemian vibe. Coffee is strong, but I did not like their iced drinks. The ice for their iced latte is way too small and melts immediately after the espresso is poured, watering down the coffee. (I know I'm nitpicking.) There are some businesses that feel like home the minute you step inside. Cafe La Boheme felt that way to me. The beer I ordered added to this fuzzy feeling - it's a good thing they don't have cushy sofas or I might have wound up spending the night. Yelpers who have identified La Boheme as good for people-watching are spot on. There were a bunch of things going on at the same time: a couple of students reading a few tables apart (will the cozy atmosphere spark a romance?), friends catching up over glasses of wine, a few people tapping furiously on laptops, a group plotting a revolution, a girl waiting for a douchebag craigslist buyer who never shows (me). I only had the aforementioned beer (Fat Tire), but my friend had a cup of coffee and declared it to be very good.
