Overall, I really like Café gratitude. I've dined here multiple times with friends and alone. Sometimes, I was able to get a spot near an outlet and do some work on my computer during my lunch. I found the food to be delicious, the staff to be kind and the decor to be spot on! - However, while I was walking through the neighborhood, I walked past the outdoor seating and noticed there was a man eating at the table with another without any shoes on! Got the I Am Whole (macrobiotic) bowl and the I Am Exquisite (coconut calamari) here a little over a month ago! I am not vegan, but the coconut calamari was really interesting. Was duped in tho thinking it was calamari? Nope, but it was still an interesting texture and I overall enjoyed the dish! The bowl itself was really tasty. I loved the different textures and how filling it was after the meal. Overall, I enjoy the concept of the restaurant, I love that everything was vegan; however, it just felt a little too expensive for me. As an author of an affirmations book, Apply Where Necessary (shop it on quayseamster.com) i love the menu is affirmation centric. It's beautiful place with pleasant staff. As I was instantly seated outside to enjoy a solo weekend lunch, the server took my order and asked me the question of the day "When do you feel most accomplished?" - i believe that's what it was - it allowed me immediately answer and reflect on my answer even more as I waited on my food. I've been an oyster mushrooms making, eating and overall, a fan since 2019...many places do not do them justice. Cafe Gratitude isn't one of those places, this sandwich was gooood! The meal was the perfect portion, crisp and a decent price. I even signed up for rewards account and got about $10-$15 dollars off so that was great. I must say I have sincere appreciation for management who reached out to remedy a prior subpar experience. During this visit, the staff were attentive and I left with intentions to return. This visit I had the I AM GIVING (truffled mushroom bianca) with the gluten free crust. It was wicked hot (temperature), which I'm super appreciative of! It's a very rich pizza, heavy on the cheeses, and heavy truffle flavor. Really enjoyed the umami-ness from the variety of mushrooms. I would prefer more chili flakes, so added a little extra to mine. To my surprise, I liked the GF crust, it is very reminiscent of a pizza dough - chewy and the edges had a nice crispy crunch. The I AM THANKFUL salad was amazing. Abundant kale and radicchio. I AM EXQUISITE was okay... it's a little awkward because the coconut meat is sweet mixed with the fried batter. I wouldn't say it was bad, just did jive with my palate. Grabbed a dessert on my way out the door - Divine. It's a strawberry shortcake in a jar. Delicate, not overly sweet, was lacking a bit of strawberry flavor, but was still satisfying. Food quality is good, but (my honest opinion) prices are a little steep, especially for the pizza. If you opt for GF crust it's another +$4... damn near $30 for an extra small pizza (9" = 4 slices). The food is very very healthy and pretty good. I wouldn't say it's mouthwatering, but the flavors are solid and it's food that you can feel good about putting into your body. From start to finish the service was great. My group of 6 and I came around 4 pm on a Thursday and there wasn't many people so service was quick and efficient. Out of the group I came with some didn't eat vegan food consistently so they as well as they seasoned vegans among us loved the variety and blends of dishes. The concept of affirmation-based foods carried through the whole experience even when ordering and we all loved being reaffirmed when we ordered. The nachos, calamari, and cauliflower appetizers were 10/10. I had the I Am Grace smoothie also great but i would have preferred adding agave (personal choice of course. This place is no longer healthy. Everything is saturated in oil or ghee and has sugar. It is so fattening and even the dishes that are "healthy" taste like oil. Even the muffins have too much grease to them. Nothing is cooked in a clean way. Service was weird - we didn't know who our server was and my husband had to send back a drink and one of our dishes. Later on that night I saw they charged us 2x. She put me on hold for 15 minutes, asked if the manager could call me back - no you may not, I want to resolve this now..and then she eventually hung up on me. I've been trying a lot of vegan/vegetarian restaurants lately and so far Cafe Gratitude is one of the few spots in LA that hits the quality bar that I know vegan food can and should hit. FLAVOR (4.5/5): 1. I AM ECLECTIC (CRISPY BUFFALO CAULIFLOWER): The flavor of the cauliflower was good, but it leaned a little salty and I wish it was crispier. 2. I AM BRILLIANT (EGGPLANT CAPONATA PASTA): Wow... the best of the night by far. I loved the cresta di gallo pasta - what a unique shape that adds so much texture! And the flavor... creamy and decadent without leaning too heavy. As far as pasta goes (both vegan and non-vegan), this is a hit. 3. I AM SUSTAINED (GRATITUDE SOUL BOWL): I liked the soul bowl. As someone who doesn't care much for mushrooms, I loved how they handled the fried oyster mushroom. My one note is I wish there was more rice and a little less collared greens. 4. I AM BELOVED (BBQ BRISKET, BRUSSELS & BUTTERNUT MAC N' CHEESE): The I Am Beloved fell short for me compared to the other entrees. I wish they used a different type of pasta because I couldn't help but compare it to the I Am Brilliant, which I loved. Flavor-wise, it was good but didn't stand out to me. 5. THALI BOWL: I liked the Thali Bowl! This dish is from their special menu which I didn't get to snag a pic of. The dishes on that menu are allium-free, great for people on a low fodmap diet. It had a well-rounded flavor profile; creamy from the chickpeas and balanced with a sour/citrus sauce they had on the side. The "hard taco shells" were a fun addition. SERVICE (5/5): Service was great! AMBIENCE (5/5): Great for friends, date nights, and large parties. If the weather is nice, I recommend sitting outside. Gratitude Larchmont was my 3x a week spot. Excited to move close to Venice Gratitude. Until I went there. Worst service. Is everyone my server or is no one? Told the server my food intolerance, she assured me there wasn't that ingredient in what I ordered and both items I ordered had loads of that ingredient. It felt like kids running the store, where are the adults in the room? Someone came over to ask how things were, I let them know what happened, they sent the server back over to our table instead of handling it. Super weird. The food was very good as always. Last time I came here, it was 8 years ago, when I experimented a lot with plant-based cuisine. Recently, I returned to have lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. The interior still looks good and the patio is nice. Because this day was on the cooler side, we opted to sit inside. I got the I am Intentional (pumpkin spice latte) and it was really yummy and made with real pumpkin. It has been many years since I have come to this location in Venice, and I was so pleased. My last visit was in 2019, before the pandemic. It was delicious then. it is divine now. Last night, I met up with a friend for her birthday event, and was not disappointed. The group of girls I was with are all carnivores, but we all adore café gratitude, and our girlfriend wanted to spend her birthday here. Everything is delicious. I ordered an "i am mystical" adaptogenic mayan hot chocolate with almond milk, and for my main, a bowl with black beans, vegan cheese, potato, kale, tomatoes, onions, carrots, zucchini, allllll the veggies. The table had ordered several starters, including the loaded nachos, fried cauliflower, and something that I think was meant to resemble calamari, but may have actually been jackfruit. Delicious, delicious, delicious and was massive, I took half of my entrée. Another person ordered a pizza, and it looked freaking delicious. As a South Asian American woman, vegan food is not unusual for me. Café gratitude takes such great care with their flavors, spices, ingredients, and I love that the menu has sections with specific details about allergies. Service was amazing as well, our server was a lovely young man (aussie or kiwi with long blonde hair?) who was kind enough to take our group photo at the end of the evening. The angelic server brought over some strawberry ice cream with a candle for our birthday girl. Do yourself a favor and come to this restaurant, I promise you won't be disappointed. I love it so much, and I wish I didn't live so far away. I don't bother with street parking in that area, it's impossible to find. I like the underground lot. It did not disappoint. My partner and I came here for a date night and enjoyed every aspect of the experience. Such cute decor/vibe. Really fun music. Our waiter, Alejandro, was the nicest guy. (I used to wait tables so I take notice of when service is extra good, and his was.) We each started off with a hard kombucha while we spent literally 15-20 min reading over the menu because it all sounded incredible. In the end, I got the I Am Whole (Macrobiotic) bowl, and he got the I am Devoted (Indonesian) bowl. We both loved. The peanut sauce on his was so yummy. Every component in mine was so well done. Very high quality ingredients and well cooked. The garlic tahini sauce was so good. Love that it's all plant based and they prioritize using locally grown produce whenever possible.
