However, if you are like me and like to get your appetizers BEFORE your meal, either don't order appetizers (they will come with the mains) or order them first and then order your mains after you received the appetizers. I had a surprisingly delicious and very filling meal! I wasn't too sure how the food would be, since it's got its own healthy vibes and collabs with health based chefs and authors. But, the food I got was excellent, and the best part is that they had a full menu at breakfast time, which meant that I was able to eat a non-breakfast meal early in the day. I got the taquitos dorados, and the cashew queso fundido which was both tasty and filling. I do wish they had added lime slices and had hot sauce at the table, but even without the lines or hot sauce, the food was super flavorful and delicious! My company and I ordered some cookies for an event. Granted it was a very large number, and there were some hiccups. But the manager and chef were very kind and gracious, and the issue was resolved. If you're new to this place, park in the structure and Café Gratitude will validate for a limited number of hours. I am came with some coworkers for a nice weekday lunch. The tables are meant for parties of 4 max but we had 6 so we were sat at the large communal table. This was actually pretty fun and allowed for others to join us. The food is what you might expect from a cafe in Venice. Healthy, fresh, ingredients with cute names like I AM CLEANSED and I AM AWESOME. Dishes range from $14 to about $25 depending on if you add on items or swap things out for quinoa or cauliflower hemp see rice. The table ordered many things but I zeroed in on the YO SOY FUERTE GRATITUDE CRUNCHWRAP ($19.25). As a lover of the Taco Bell original I was very curious how this one would measure up. I am happy to say that i was pleasantly surprised. It had the crunch from the tostada and romaine, the meatiness from the mushroom carnitas, and the creamy, sauciness from the guacamole and cashew nacho cheese. Plus you feel slightly healthier eating this version. The staff is friendly and patient (we took a while to decide). Depending on when you go, there is open street parking - be sure to read the signs. read more

Ughhh Cafe Gratituuuude!! As the daughter of a long time vegan (both from LA), I am pretty well versed in the vegan restaurant options. The Larchmont location was our spot when options were limited. It was good! But once Gracias Madre, Sage, Seed, and Crossroads opened, Cafe Gratitude didn't quite hold up. We'd still go occasionally when in the area but it was no longer our first choice. Fast forward to years later, I haven't been in a while and I jumped at the opportunity to go with my friend for lunch. Day dreaming about a smoothie I used to get there that had dates and tastes just like dessert but was 'healthy,' I scoured the menu and couldn't find it. I wasn't too surprised because it's been 3 or so years but I wasn't impressed with the options and chose to get a mocktail instead that was absolutely refreshing and delicious. I was happy to see a few of the dishes I liked in the past are still available but I chose the black bean burger. I use black bean (homemade vegan) burgers to judge a restaurant. I was so, so disappointed; it had a weird after taste and the combination of ketchup with it was just weird. I ate half and "took the other half home." I was elated to hear the fries are cooked in rice bran (yay restaurants that avoid seed oils!) but they were not all that great. My dog who loves fries refused to eat one, and that sort of freaked me out a bit to be honest. Lol The whole experience was lacking and really made me miss Seed and Ingo's, the two best homemade black bean patties I have ever had and have proven to be irreplaceable. I've been going to cafe gratitude (this location specifically) for two years now and I eat here two three times a week. I am so beyond disappointed with my recent experience. I was sitting behind a presumable influencer that the waitstaff was particularly extra tentative to. I had put my order in and for 45 minutes was not checked on and come to find out my waitress had even failed to put in my order. Barely apologized. ordered the butternut squash pasta as a part of the LA restaurant week. they brought the pasta over and I only took one bite (thank god) because it was absolutely rancid. anyway the server comes over to apologize and let me know that what I was eating was NOT GLUTEN FREE PASTA! never in my nearly 7 years of living with this disease have I had this happen to me. Cute cafe with a great menu and great service! The concept of the menu and the restaurant is very *LA*. The waiter asked a "question of the day", which was "what are you overcoming?" (They don't ask for your answer, they just ask the question to your table) I was here for the food though, and that for sure did not disappoint. There were so many things I wanted to try, but we ended up getting the Chikn Sandwich made with fried mushroom and the Baja Tacos, made with an imitation fried fish filet. Both were saucy and flavorful and amazing, without being too salty or heavy. The tacos came with a creamy mayo that complemented the crunchy slaw and lightly crispy "fish" filet. There was definitely not an overwhelming fishy flavor, just enough to be pleasantly reminiscent of breaded fish, but with a lighter, melt in your mouth texture. The tacos came with a yummy simple bowl of pico, beans, and rice which made just enough food to feel satisfied. The fried mushroom sandwich was enjoyed very much by my omnivore friend. It was fried to perfection, and the bite I had was saucy and amazing. The fries were also perfectly crispy and soft, super fresh. She said the Cafe had "Butcher's Daughter vibes", but way better food lol. They have a mix of raw, "clean eating" vegan food, interesting pizzas, and some rich fried options. Beautiful atmosphere, an abundance of vegan food (super healthy to quite decadent) and exquisite service (everyone from host to server to busser who kindly asked us if we had enjoyed our food like it mattered to him). What's not to love about Cafe Gratitude? My friend and I opted to sit outside on their patio, which has heat lamps. We started with the Buffalo cauliflower wings which comes with the best ranch I have ever tasted (I normally don't like ranch). The lemon spritzer I ordered was OK, though I don't think I'd order it again because they have a really lovely selection of wines. I indulged in a red Sauvignon Blanc, which I've never had before and loved. For my main course, I had the tempeh caesar wrap which was a little too sweet for me, thanks to the coconut bacon. A lot is going on in that wrap and I appreciated the mix of crunchy/creamy chewy textures. I would have preferred thin slices of tempeh rather than chunks. No matter because there's so many great things on that menu that would have me coming back. We finished up with the tiramisu, which is gluten free and raw. It's legit incredible and since tiramisu is my favorite dessert, I have had my fair share. I have been to their other concept (Gracias Madre in SF) many times and loved it. First of all, this is the place that finally got me to switch to oat milk, which I'd been wanting to do for a while but been too nervous about. Similarly, I have long been wanting to try more plant-based foods, but didn't know where to start (I can't really cook, and my family's cooking is largely focused on meat). But the food here was absolutely incredible. I also was trying to not take the "shtick" of the affirmations too seriously, but it is legitimately quite sweet and I found myself really enjoying it. This was further enhanced by the staff being very kind & genuine. Incredible meal, incredible service, incredible place. My conversation went like "I think I'll have the 'I am Hearty'. 'Of course. You are Hearty'. I wasn't sure what I heard basically being deaf in one ear. But my friend confirmed what I thought she said, and then she did the same thing to him when he ordered. No affirmations next to the alcoholic drinks, I noticed. But probably just as well. The tofu scramble I got was seriously good. Came with a couple slices of tasty bread, some cherry compote I think, and some smashed potatoes. I really liked it. I brought my mom and sister here (non-vegans) mainly because the menu here has so many options. There is something yummy for everyone. We dined on Saturday around 12:30 pm and we were offered both the brunch and the lunch menu. I've been coming here since they opened and the consistency and quality has not changed, which I feel says a lot about a restaurant. It's a very eclectic atmosphere, and it is quite loud inside, lots of people chatting on top of chill vibes music. Adolpho was our wait-person and he had many tables but made sure to check-in on us. I have been excited to try this spot for years since going vegan in 2019. GF pizza was divine, couldn't tell that it wasn't wheat crust. The mushroom "chicken" sandwich was recommended by our server. I loved the combo and texture but it was super dry -- missing out on spices and sauce, I couldn't get through the whole thing. The baked goods are all GF and delicious -- but not inexpensive. We ordered a $12 key lime pie square which was decadent, I liked the nut crust but my partner didn't at all and ate around it. I ordered a warmed walnut chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was beyond warm and came out burned, so I regret to report that I flagged down a manager and sent back food for the first time in years. The replacement (shown) was divine and made up for it entirely, but I didn't get to have it with coffee as planned. Hopefully that oversight was corrected so no more sweets go to waste. Another downside was that it was freezing in the shade! We saw other tables had blankets but we couldn't get attention of a server/host to grab one. Definitely sit inside if you can, brr! Experience here was more like a 3.5 but the mission is good and was worth the hype, so they can have the extra points. read more

I have been going to Cafe Gratitude since it came to the neighborhood. It's still amazing to see folks working there since the beginning, really shows how they must treat their staff. And after all these years, the food is still yummy. Now you're probably wondering why 3 stars? What I am seeing out in the restaurant world since covid is bad to lack of service and auto gratuity. This auto gratuity is becoming extremely off putting. Cafe Gratitude like many other restaurants, had full service dining experience prior to covid. And for me, this was my go to place. Post covid doomsday lockdown, this has all changed. You are shown your table, you scan for the menu, (there is no one to walk you through the menu, especially if you are new and have questions), you order on the app and pay as well. The default on the app is set to a minimum of 18%. What I didn't see was a small area that you could custom tip. And this is where the 3 stars comes in. As a past person who worked in the restaurant business, your tips is something you worked for. That meant building relationships with your customers, new and returning loyal base. It appears that is all gone. You have a person who just busses the table...that's it. So why would a restaurant expect the customer to pay 18, 20, 25% tip? This type of model is like take out. And it seems like Cafe Gratitude prefers this model, and since I don't, you will definitely loose me as your loyal customer for over 10 years. I work hard and want to feel appreciated and engage with those around. If this is the new norm, to me this is a sad day. read more
