I love the food, I got the ube pancakes and it was so yummy and filling. I also got the blueberry matcha and that was really good too. I was surprised because you don't see matcha a lot in restaurants, usually they only have soda or lemonade. The atmosphere is so pretty and the bear outside is so cute. Walked into Cafe Carrusel expecting lunch, left questioning whether I'd wandered into a rose parade float that had gained sentience and opened a restaurant. This place is Disneyland's fever dream, and I mean that as the highest compliment. Reservations? Don't be cute. They don't take them, and honestly they don't need to -- swing by after 1:30pm and you'll walk right in like you own the place (you don't, the roses own the place, you're just visiting). The menu is deceptively massive for a spot that looks like it was decorated by a unicorn with a glue gun and a grudge against blank space. There's even a solid cocktail list, which feels almost transgressive amid all the pink. Staff are sharp -- all black uniforms with pink aprons, like a very polite, very committed goth-adjacent flower shop. We showed up at noon and the place was PACKED, mostly with tiny humans (overwhelmingly of the "future princess" demographic). This is ground zero for birthday parties -- the staff roams table to table singing to kids like a roaming pink-clad Greek chorus. Every water glass is pink. The utensils are gold-plated, because apparently at Cafe Carrusel even your fork deserves a crown. The straws are heart-shaped. I have never felt more like a Disney princess while eating my chicken sandwich. The food itself was legitimately good, the service solid, and the whole vibe screams "we are here to have an unreasonable amount of fun." Every single surface -- walls, ceiling, probably the bathroom grout -- is covered in roses, horses, and butterflies. It's a lot. It's also kind of great. Walking into this place you're immediately hit with why it exists, to be a place you can take pictures of to show people on social media you went to the cool new pink restaurant downtown. It's a bit astounding how this restaurant is almost a perfect metaphor for social media as a whole, beautiful and striking surface level appearance, but an ugly and cold experience when you peer deeper. They don't take reservations, at least that's what their social media commenter says. They don't have a phone number that works, that was verified first hand. We had to arrive at the restaurant at 7 am to request a reservation for a large party later in the day. Despite the above statement, a reservation was secured. We arrived at the time agreed upon and had to wait around 10 minutes for our table. Our hostess was incredibly unprofessional and was eager to tell us how none of this was her fault, deflecting and being rude for no real discernible reason. Immediately this was a red flag. I sat and wondered if this was just Denny's with a coat of pink paint and fake flowers. Just another Carrow's with pink waistcoats and charming decor. For what I ordered, that was certainly the case. For others, not so much. The stuffed French toast was soggy, undercooked, and completely flavorless. The tacos birrias were admittedly delicious and the consóme was very tasty as well. Our waiter, though dressed as if he was a dandy at Disneyland seemed to have his emotions trapped behind his pink waistcoat. He was quiet, stone faced, and lacked all the qualities of someone in the hospitality/service industry; kindness. We finished our meal and were conversing at our table. Some of us hadn't seen each other in months or even years. During our conversations, the busboy and waiter came up and actively started cleaning our tables, taking our glasses, plates, and drinks from us. If that doesn't scream, "get out," I don't know what does. Then as the perfect end to our experience, the owner came by. Dressed as if she just came from a shopping trip on Rodeo drive. She wore a hat the size of Saturn and had an unmistakable air of undeserved arrogance about her. She was so eager to not look at any of her customers or acknowledge their existence. It's painfully obvious that she wants to be someone along the lines of Lisa Vanderpump, but at least Lisa talks to customers and is a professional. This place exists for one reason. A singular reason shallow in its nature, and short in its lifespan. Just as so many people have had their fifteen minutes of fame, so too will cafe carrusel. read more

My friends wanted to try this place, so I came with them. The decor was definitely a bit over the top for my taste, but I can see why people like it. It's very colorful, Instagram-worthy, and great for taking pictures. The servers even wear pink vests, which fits the whole carousel theme. The menu is extensive, with everything from classic American breakfast to Mexican dishes and Asian-inspired options like ube pancakes, matcha pancakes, and Japanese soufflé pancakes. I originally wanted to order the Japanese pancakes, but after discussing my order, the server came back and told me the bakery wasn't open yet, so they couldn't make them. I ended up ordering the salmon Benedict instead. Unfortunately, I really didn't enjoy my meal. The "smoked salmon" turned out to be cooked salmon crumbles rather than traditional smoked salmon, which was very disappointing. The hollandaise sauce also wasn't very good. On the other hand, my friends enjoyed their meals. They ordered huevos rancheros, avocado toast and birria Benedict. The service was also disappointing. When I ordered the Japanese pancakes, the server repeatedly warned me that they would take 45-60 minutes to prepare and kept asking if I was sure I was okay with the wait. I told him several times that I was fine with it. He then turned to my friend and asked her the same question in Spanish, even though I was the one ordering. That made me feel uncomfortable because it felt like my order was being discussed with someone else instead of directly with me in a different language. In the end, it didn't matter anyway because he later returned and told me they couldn't make the pancakes since the bakery was closed. (Not sure they have a bakery?) Throughout the meal, he checked on our table several times. When speaking to my friend, he offered coffee refills, mimosas, and asked if she needed anything else in Spanish. With me, he would simply ask if everything was okay and start walking away. Each time, I had to stop him to ask for a coffee refill because it was never offered to me. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier, but I honestly didn't get that impression. He spoke English well, understood my order without any issues, brought me a to-go box when I asked, and even got me a small container for my leftover sauce. We didn't seem to have any communication problems. I may have just had an unfortunate experience, because my friend had great food and excellent service. That's why I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1. It seems like you can have a good experience here unfortunately it just wasn't mine this time. read more

Tried this new brunch spot with the girls and had such a great experience! We walked in around 11:30 and there was about a 30-minute wait, but we were able to grab seats at the bar while we waited. It ended up being the perfect way to start brunch--we ordered a few of their fun drinks to share, and they were delicious. Once we were seated, we shared several dishes so we could try a little of everything, and every single thing was amazing. The food was fresh, flavorful, and definitely worth the wait. After waiting so long to be served , the avocado toast and the chilaquiles both came very soggy and lacked any texture or flavor. My girls and I (group of 6) decided to come and give this place a shot (despite the reviews on here) mainly for ambiance/ aesthetics - but we were still expecting good service and good food. Ambiance was a 7/10 it's definitely a more family friendly place which is great for those that enjoy it! Food 6/10. Service 3/10. We do not live near Santa Rosa so we drove an hour and a half to get here. Once we were sat, we started to get our drink orders in. The server could not tell us what spirits they had for cocktails and also did not know what kind of prosecco was available. If you're not going to train your staff properly to make sure they know what they have to SERVE then you need to have a drink menu listing the spirits, bottles of champagnes, other liquors available. Period. I'm surprised they dont..Once she figured that out and we got our drink orders in, it took 20 minutes for our drinks to come out and three of the drinks were wrong, one drink was forgotten and I had to ask for it FOUR TIMES before it was finally brought over. We get our food order in and everyone gets their order before I did. I had the Birria Benedict and it arrived much later than everyone else's food. My friend had asked for french fries for her side and instead she got home fries. Her croissant breakfast sandwich also had THEEE HARDEST CROISSANT EVER! Hard as a rock. It was seriously unacceptable having bread like that for a sandwich. They also forgot her bacon on the sandwich. After flagging the server down, who seemed like she didn't want to come to our table at all, they brought out a new croissant which was way softer and buttery- makes me wonder why that wasn't done in the first place before serving it the way they did. And they did bring out that missing side of bacon 20 minutes later after the sandwich was basically gone. It took another 20 minutes just to get our bill and ask for TO GO BOXES when we clearly weren't eating anymore. As we were looking around, they had so many people working on the floor. I don't understand how or why our table wasn't getting bussed, or at least asked if we need boxes. Our sever was definitely ignoring our table because of the mistakes HER and the kitchen made. The server ended up telling us they are severely undertrained and the manager and owner keep hiring younger kids to work without giving them the proper training. As a server myself, i cannot imagine giving any of my tables the experience my friends and I had here. Never coming back again - waste of time and effort and money! Will be advising everyone else to do the same. I really appreciated that they weren't short staffed and were more than happy to take photos for guests it made the experience feel welcoming and personal. My sister and I were excited to try this restaurant for the first time, and we understand that busy restaurants can have longer wait times. However, after waiting over an hour, we still hadn't received our food while at least six other parties who arrived after us had already been served. When our food finally came out, it was cold and unfortunately not very good. After waiting so long, I expected the food to be fresh and prepared correctly. My sister ordered an omelet, but it was very thin, and the bread served with it wasn't even toasted. We also weren't offered any butter or jam for the bread, which was another small but noticeable disappointment. And the cherry on top was they do not offer decaf coffee at a brunch restaurant. Every year I look for a place to celebrate my sobriety birthday with all my girlfriends in Sonoma County. I've driven by Cafe Carrusel a few times and thought it looked so cute and so fun. I knew nothing about it so had no expectations and hoped for the best. Well I have to say of all my 18 celebrations this was by far the best! I spoke to the owner Ivy( who is beyond fabulous) and told her what I was wanting. I had seen on their IG how they celebrate birthdays and told her I wanted exactly that!!!! Well she delivered. I had a party of 20 they gave us a great table in the back that gave us a bit of privacy to be loud and silly. Our server ( I'm embarrassed to say I forgot her name) was GREAT!!!!!!! Best service I've had in a long time. She was attentive, patient and beyond helpful for all of my guests. The service overall was so wonderful I can't really say enough. They all offered to take our pictures without really even being asked which was great ! The food was also wonderful everything from a nacho burger to French toast and absolutely insane fajitas. The drinks also so fun and very tasty. They even brought me a birthday mocktail which no restaurant has ever done. Every single thing about Cafe Carrusel was above and beyond. They even took video of the birthday cake celebration Cafe Carrusel style and texted it to me! I mean they have thought of everything to make you feel special. I'd give 100 stars if I could. Servers lack experience and professionalism. Kitchen has no proper management. I watched families walk out after 20mins of getting no ones attention with an approx staff of 15 walking around cluelessly or talking amongst themselves. All food comes out at random. My food was personally raw and fridge cold in the middle. Manager tried to make it right so props to Victor (I believe that was his name at least). Total experience lasting 1:45 with no more than 50% of the restaurant full, which was naturally very unexpected. Don't talk about them on Instagram too much either, they will go through your profile to try to make personal jabs but when you do the same your comments will get deleted and then you get blocked. Whoever runs there instagram page also thought it was okay to poke fun at someone's appearance, with screenshots to prove it. Go elsewhere. Not worth the hype or the instagram pics. read more
