The owner is a cheap skate, very authoritarian and charges for everything like bread and grated cheese when you get a togo meal. (Don't ever try to get a refund for anything whether drinks or food bc you'll have to go to war for it and will lose) One grief I have w Borgia is they upcharge on Togo meals for the bread and grated cheese now. Never was the case when it first opened and now they increased a very small amount of grated cheese from $1 to $2 and you need to get 3 of them if you like having it for a large portion of spaghetti. There was so much water in the dish like they didn't drain the pasta before putting meat sauce over it. They took it back and brought me new, it was still blah. Another to not get there. Don't get the stuffed chicken breast either, so tough can't even cut it. Appetizers and desserts are always good. Service is always top notch. The main dish just didn't deliver this time. We have been regular customers since their opening in 1986, were very glad when CB moved to Munster. Had the first mediocre-poor meal ever there recently. Spaghetti and meatballs were just blah, marinara was FLAVORLESS, no herbs, spices or garlic, meatballs seemed full of filler. Parmesan Chicken had burned (reheated) chicken cutlets, rubbery mozzarella topping and same blah mozzarella. Plus bread loaves are much smaller than previously, causing slices to be dry and tough to chew. Very sad to see one of the last decent restaurants in NWI sacrifice quality while still raising prices. read more

Had a wonderful experience on an early Tuesday dinner. Leo took care of us, was extremely courteous and friendly, offering recommendations and guidance for two first time visitors. He balanced being attentive and giving space to enjoy the meal. We enjoyed the decor (lights remind us of Chihuly Glass) and I commented how I liked seeing the staff clean the bottles and restaurant before dinner rush. A good sign that attention to detail extends to the dishes as well. The crispy calamari was light and crunchy. The drinks were refreshing and the entrees both delightful. Stuffed chicken was great but the green beans might have made the plate. Great flavor! White wine linguine was buttery and rich. We split the stuffed strawberry and cannoli. Crabcakes in lemon cream sauce were some of the best we've ever had. Finished off the meal with a.creme brûlée (very good$ and a double espresso cappuccino, no milk and foam only. Four of us ate at Café Borgia in Munster, IN Saturday night 4/26/25. We were disappointed about multiple things. First that they did not accept reservations. They also limited us to one check per table and one credit card per table. The atmosphere was cute, the staff was friendly and the food was good. We got a good amount of food for the price. However, my friend was not able to substitute any other kind of starch for her potatoes which is highly unusual not to have that option. I was not able to customize my drink which is something I've never run into before. They did not offer Stevia. We also felt rushed at the table. After an hour and a half the busboy started removing our water glasses. We felt that they were rushing us out. They had a bread oven on the side of the fairly small lobby area as you walk in the door. ‍ When we were on our way out we stopped to say goodbye to our friends and one of the employees gave us the impression that we were in his way because he was trying to heat bread! I have no idea why they would heat bread in the waiting area instead of their kitchen!! ‍ We will not be returning to Cafe Borgia. My sister, kids and I went her to have nice Italian mean. I must say this place was impressive! It was a true Italian traditional restaurant. You can tell from the crusty bread to the homemade sauces for the spaghetti and the tangy lemon in the chicken that I ordered. We ordered: chicken limone: an extremely tangy lemon chief that came with the house starch and vegetable of the day which turned out to be broccoli and mashed potatoes. I love lemon so the tang was great...if you don't like a lot of lemon this plate is not for you but for me it was juicy lemony and perfect. Chicken parmigiana: it was a large proton with juicy chicken and really great homemaker spaghetti with chunks of tomatoes and onions! Delicious and great ingredient quality. Cheese and pepperoni pizza: my kids love pizza and this was a great traditional style pizza with again super fresh mozzarella and ingredients. Bread pudding; this was probably my least favorite and thats only because it had dried cranberries in it and I have never had bread pudding with that in there and it could have had a little bit more sweetness to it. But overall great food and experience! The customer service was also very great . The waitress was very attentive and the second waitress ensured ours bread was full and drinks were full consistently I would say that Olive Garden has nothing on cafe Borgia! read more

Visited for the 1st time with a friend. I asked the waiter, Leo, about recommendations before ordering. I also specifically asked about fettuccine Alfredo. When my order came out it was chicken parmesan, I said I didn't order that and sent it back. The waiter came to my table with the meal I didn't order and told me I ordered it because he wrote it down. As if it's impossible to make a mistake. Also told me I would have to pay for it anyway and I can order something else. I ate a small portion, paid and left. They nickel and dime their patrons for everything, the bread before the meal, we asked for oil and parmesan cheese, that was an additional charge, we were not told about until we saw it on the bill. We're accustomed to something like that being included at italian restaurant, not a big deal, we just not told when we ordered. I felt bullied into taking something I didn't want. This review is regarding the experience there and not the food. Food was amazing. We have been to this restaurant several times. Food is always on par. That's why we decided to have our party there- Somewhere that is sentimental to us and has good food. And let me tell you, the food did not disappoint. The people we invited could not stop complimenting on how delicious the food was. Now, to the experience... We met with the manager in person several times regarding this dinner we were going to have. We asked her if we could move some tables around, and she seemed accommodating. We told her that we would have someone decorating the tables and if they could arrive an hour beforehand to do so. She always said, "no problem, whatever you would like". Our time for the restaurant reservation was from 3-5:30. A week prior we emailed Grace (the manager's assistant) regarding the table arrangements and some finalizations. All I wanted to know was how the table arrangements would be like so I could let my guests know where to sit. She was not helpful. Never answered our questions. She sent a picture of the copy of the contract (which I already had) and ended with the email reminding me that my reservation ends at 5:30. I ended up giving up emailing her because the emails were getting nowhere. She most efficient thing she did for us was calling us asking us for the room reservation payment. Fast forward to the day of the event, and it was chaotic. We were told we could be there an hour earlier to decorate, but we couldn't, because there was party that was still there. Fine. We patiently waited for the party to disperse before we started decorating. We then wanted to move ONE table around to face the kitchen. We met much resistance on that one. The manager tells us that we aren't allowed to move any tables even though the party before us clearly had moved their tables. You look at their website, and there are photos of the tables being moved. So why couldn't we? It was a very special day for us, and they clearly did not try to do anything to accommodate us even as they promised. I would think twice about having any events here. read more

Their food is well prepared and delicious, but I ordered a $6 dessert that I didn't like, so I returned it after trying 2 "tip of the spoon" portions, and they wouldn't remove it from my bill of $100. I called back to speak with a manager and could only talk to the host who told me it didn't matter what I spent, their policy is not to "throw food in the garbage" because a customer doesn't like it and if I didn't agree with their policy, then I shouldn't patronize their business. We managed to get in here just before being presented with the madness we encountered while leaving. Couldn't help feeling pressured to hurry up with each effort made by staff to remove plates from our table. These plates still had food present that was being consumed. Our server was friendly and attentive, she certainly made her presence known as her high energy and over the top announcing style voice was unmistakable. This was a contribution to the "hurry up" feeling. As to the food, the braised beef ribs were amazing, equally the lamb shank was also very good. The short rib Flavor profile in my opinion was better than the lamb shank. Both were "fall off the bone" tender. He was an incredible chef then and was happy for him when he opened the original Cafe Borgia. Since then, he opened this place and his food is still amazing! The bill comes and we give our discover card which is accepted at 99% of businesses nation wide and is also not mentioned ion their website as a non payment. We ask our waiter if we can go home and call with our M/c # or leave a direct routing and checking account number. He politely leaves and asks the mgr. she says one of us has to stay?? I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Cafe Borgia. The owner was disrespectful, hateful, and discriminating towards people with disabilities. Despite my service dog clearly having his harness on and me stating that he is a service animal, the owner violated federal law and denied me access. I think that was the owner because he screamed in public, in front of the entire restaurant, at us: "GET OUT OF MY PLACE!". He started screaming at me and my family, demanding documents for the dog which is completely illegal to ask. Not only did he violate the law, but he also showed complete ignorance of it, as he and his staff were clueless about the two legal questions that they can ask about service dogs. This experience ruined our day and left us all emotionally disturbed. We had come to Cafe Borgia to honor the memory of my husband's beloved father who had passed away, but instead, we were met with discrimination and hatred. It's especially disappointing since my family members and I had been loyal customers for years. We are absolutely devastated by the unethical behavior of the restaurant staff and owner. I have already taken action and filed a complaint with the government, and they will be investigating this place. IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE FOR BREAKING IT. I hope that Cafe Borgia learns from this and makes changes to their policies and attitudes towards people with disabilities. Went here for the first time last Saturday to celebrate my mother in laws birthday. The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere was nice. We were seated immediately. The waitress was very attentive, but also gave us time to look over the menu. We ordered the bread basket and stuffed mushrooms for appetizers. They were amazing. The bread was hot and fresh. For our entrees, we ordered the lasagna, rotini, salmon ravioli and the veal cannelloni. All of our entrees were phenomenal. Nothing to complain about the tastes of the food. Dessert was just as good. We ordered 2 different chocolate Desserts. Not a crumb left. The only reason I give the restaurant 4 stars only is because they started cleaning as soon as we finished dishes. Not even saying,"Excuse me." After every course this happened. Had a large group of old friends get together at Cafe Borgia and had a horrible experience. From the time we sat down we were rushed, from food and drinks being taken away before they were done, to coming back again and again to see if we were done, to charging for baskets of bread. We will never go back again. To top it off one of the members in our group was pushed by server moving our tables once we got up (we were saying our goodbyes to our group) Cafe Borgia couldn't turn over the table fast enough, even though they were NOT on a wait!! The icing on the cake was Karen the owner exchanging F you's with our group for the table shove, how unprofessional can you be?
